PoliticsRe: Why Is America's Crawling Economy Hitting The World? by blackspade(m): 9:35pm On Sep 24, 2008
DeepZone:
As long as there is a global price for oil set by OPEC, does it really matter whom you sale to?
YES! YES! YES! The United States is currently the largest buyer of oil, but when you look at China and look at how fast urbanization is taking place there, the demand for oil to fuel cars is going to EXPLODE! It's all about demand, which China is going to control in the coming years (before 2010)

DeepZone:
I thought you were suggesting if we exploit our trade agreements with China more than we do with America but Obasanjo did set that pace before the Northerners came in again and scattered the whole thing. That's why Obasanjo fixed Nigeria's economy to a considerable extent but my regret now is that YaraMugu will spoil the whole thing within 3 years.
I agree what you're suggesting about Yar'Adua, the future looked very bright especially with Chinese investment. He makes it very difficult for companies who aren't American to trade with Nigeria. There are so many good things that will come out of China-Nigeria trade relations, it's sad Nigeria doesn't take advantage of this VAST opportunity.

The Worlds fastest growing economies:

https://media.economist.com/images/ga/2007w51/Growth.jpg

African nations dominate the list of the fastest growing economies. Sadly, I think Equatorial Guinea will soon fall out of that list, because American oil demand is what fuels the growth of their economy, and their leader made many horrible decisions in the past. American oil companies make the vast majority of their oil profits because EQ never set up a proper National oil company, but the situation now isn't anywhere close to it was in the ninety's, when American companies took 95% of Equatorial Guinea's oil profits.

I wouldn't doubt Sudan has the largest oil deposits on Earth. That countries oil is vastly unexplored, and their climate gives many hints that the country is tremendously rich in oil. I just hope they set up a national oil company, and model their system after Angola. China and Sudan have a huge trade partnership also, and in the coming years, don't be surprised if you see Sudan turn into the next Dubai. Chinese oil demands are not even close to starting.

Angola is just an African success story so far. This country just came out of a civil war, and all the stuf coming out of that country is just amazing. The government is investing billions into rebuilding the country, providing social housing for all who need it (250,000 units/year), investing heavily in schools, health, police, military, and rebuilding the capital (Luanda). They have their own Nationalized oil company (Sonangol) who reaps the majority of oil benefits, and they set up a law to where any foreign oil company who wants to do business there, has to sign a contract through Sonangol.

Angola is the largest supplier of oil to China, and their relationship grows more and more everyday. China gave Angola a $10 Billion dollar line of credit to help restore infrastructure, and invest in a farming program that's so far helped over 8 million families. China International Fund, which is a specific company that works in Angola, is investing Billions of dollars to rebuild their capital Luanda, and it's just amazing.

Here's the website link: http://www.chinainternationalfund.com/

Even though Angola is relatively young in their road to become a prosperous nation, I know for a fact Nigeria can learn MANY lessons from Angolan leaders, and how they appropriate funds.

The reason I wrote all of this, is to give people examples of all the positives that comes with trading with China, the future world power, and the country that spreads its wealth without trying to control your country. Countries like Nigeria, and others who have large deposits of oil should really get closer to China, because like I've said before, their oil demands are nowhere near close to getting started.
PoliticsRe: Why Is America's Crawling Economy Hitting The World? by blackspade(m): 9:10pm On Sep 24, 2008
No we didn't. We export 52.5% of our products to the United States, which is the MAJORITY. Nigeria on the other hand imports 10% of their products from China (which is bad because Chinese products are crap). We could have been in a better situation if the current president wouldn't have slashed all the investment China could have put in Nigeria, for example a $50 Billion dollar investment by China was proposed 2 years ago, but nothing has ever been said about it since.

Countries like Angola, Sudan, and DR Congo have relations with the US, but most of their investment and trade comes from China. Angola is the worlds fastest growing economy, and Sudan is on the top 10 also. Countries like Panama, Columbia, Japan, and countless European nations will feel the fall of the economic downturn of America. Others who know where the future money is going to be, are growing at astronomical rates.

If Nigeria were to get closer to China, I guarantee double-digit economic growth will the ever increasing need for oil there. Angola is their largest supplier of oil, and they actually prefer their oil to others. Now, if Nigeria were to get in with China, can you imagine all the trade/investment when over ONE BILLION people are demanding oil for their cars? cool

lol, you're so confused. Just because a company is in another country doesn't mean it's a company of that respective country. Wherever the company's main headquarters is located, that is where that country is from. Your remedial excuse of "I don't have time" is a mere disguise for saying you know you've been cornered once again, and I wouldn't be surprised if your next move was to drown this thread with meaningless satellite images.

PoliticsRe: Why Is America's Crawling Economy Hitting The World? by blackspade(m): 8:23pm On Sep 24, 2008
Nigeria and South Africa shouldn't have been so dependent on America, and should have made the smart decision and get close to China. Economies in Africa like Angola, Sudan, and DR Congo, who have growing business relations with China, are having their economies boom right now. China is also booming, growing at 8-9% a year, and it's economy shows no sign of slowing, neither do Angola, Sudan, and DR Congo with the before 2 being amongst the worlds fastest growing economies.

America's economic downturn largely effects countries who solely rely on trade/investment with them, more often than not, many others still continue to rise. Iran, India, Brazil, are also examples.

Foreign AffairsRe: South African President Mbeki Formally Resigns by blackspade(m): 6:50pm On Sep 24, 2008
I can't wait until Zuma takes office, South Africa needs a socialist/populist like him to drastically bring down their unemployment rate, and actually worry about the people. Mbeki has paid too much attention to private business investment, and basically ignored the HIV/AIDS epedemic, and really didn't pay enough attention to the people who needed attention the most. He did start a program to replace shantytowns by achieving a certain quota of replacement housing a year, but he hasn't brought in enough jobs, nor has he paid enough attention to education.

They have these "Black Empowerment" laws, but that mostly limits Black Africans to jobs like construction and such. I feel if Mbeki would have invested more into education, that would do much more for the Black South African group, because it will create a huge number of skilled workers, who could vastly replace the need for White workers. Just my 2cents. wink

PoliticsRe: Was Colonialism Good For Africa? by blackspade(m): 11:20pm On Sep 23, 2008
If you think stealing Africa's natural resources, segregating Africans in their homeland, and drawing up nations that ended up having civil wars because of previous cultural differences was good for Africa, than that's your demented view on things.

My opinion of Colonialism, is that it was the worst thing to happen to Africa after the Atlantic slave trade. Colonists embarked on our lands at first to gather slaves (sold by Africans, but still bad). Later on after the slave trade, many European nations partook in "The scramble for Africa", where they created colonies, and made indigenous Africans build their new societies, and at the same time making them live in townships outside of the city (in most cases). Irresponsible colonists also did no research when they decided to draw maps of these new colonies, and didn't think twice about who or what could happen if the two come together.

Many if not all civil wars in Africa can be blamed on the carelessness of colonists who decided to draw maps of countries that would fail in the future. For that one reason is why you have many African nations who have split ie. Mali, East Africa, Congo, etc. . . You also have former states like India which included Pakistan and Bangladesh at one point, but ended up splitting.

To conclude, the only good thing that came out of colonialism is the infrastructure it left when it was destroyed. The rest about colonialism, I absolutely hate, and wish it never happened. I also don't mind when "colonist descendent's" leave our lands en mass, ie. Afrikaners, Angolan-Portuguese, French Ghanaian, etc. . .

Foreign AffairsRe: Mugabe, Tsvangirai Sign Deal by blackspade(m): 3:54pm On Sep 23, 2008
Kobojunkie:
You really think this should be the way to go for a people? How did you come to the point where you deem this ‘suitable’ government?
No I don't, if I had it my way fair democracy would reign, but this is not the case as we all know. I rather have witnessed the two a deal sign, than have another African civil war that everyone knows was brewing.

bawomolo:
large working population? 30 percent of zimbabweans have ran away and more are still sneaking through the south african border. the one's left are pretty much unskilled workers.
Sorry, I meant to say "large working age population" which Zimbabwe has, and would be great for when rebuilding their economy again.

Kobojunkie:
great infrastructure? is this 1990 or 2008?
Don't let all the bad news in the media fool you, Zimbabwe easily is in the top 5 list on who has the best infrastructure in Africa. Our infrastructure pales in comparison to Zimbabwe's. This will be a huge advantage when they start the process of reconstructing their country.

landis:
what beats me is why AFRICAN nations are not there making all the 'deals'

We always wait for the WEST. Imagine concession Dangote would have made in this country!!!
The "West" thinks they rule the politics of the world, because in turn they rule the economy (But that's coming to an end soon)

landis:
I heared the WEST are on standby for Mugabe to die to rush back in.

When EU was down after 1945, US pumped everything into it: its called Investment.
Great Britain has proposed giving Zimbabwe £1,000,000 if they have proof Mugabe is not in charge of all decisions.

TravelRe: Spain In Gambian Migrant Mix Up. by blackspade(m): 10:33pm On Sep 22, 2008
I wish they would look at these people as human beings and not criminals. People have to realize that 99% of illegal immigrants entering Europe are going looking for a way to survive because they can't find any other way in Africa. I wish they would set up some type of program where the Africans would get a chance to be settled legally, and work their way to citizenship. It's not their fault they can't find the necessary outlets to be considered a "skilled migrant", it' the governments fault. As always, I wish they would stop just kicking our people out for trying to survive.
Foreign AffairsRe: Iranian Millitary Parade Sends Shots At Israel by blackspade(m): 10:29pm On Sep 22, 2008
Good for Iran. They're a sovereign nation, who is anyone to tell a man in charge what to do? This isn't a world order yet, but it's sure starting to feel like one. Israel says they don't have nukes, but everyone knows that's a flat out lie, and Iran has the right as a nation to develop arms (that haven't been proven yet, but still) to protect themselves.

Well, with all that infrastructure work going on, I know for a fact thousands of jobs will be crated. People who feel they would be left unemployed should try and contact the firm who is constructing the highway.

I for one am happy the infrastructure in Lagos is being upgrade, because the last time I was there, traffic was HORRENDOUS! Believe it or not, having good infrastructure, especially in large cities like Lagos is a huge boost in business, and attracts more potential customers. It also gives room for redevelopment and slum replacement that is desperately needed in Lagos too, without good infrastructure how would construction take place?

Black Americans are 14% of American population, but they've recently been overtaken by Hispanics who are close to 16% of the population. Asian are nowhere near making Blacks the third largest minoirty, they only comprise about 5% of American population. Asians and Hispanics grow faster, but Black immigration is the fastest growing immigrant group in America in terms of percentage.

Where I live, Blacks are the third largest minority. California is 36% Hispanic, 12% Asian, and 7% Black. At my city and university, Blacks are not in the minority, and over these last two semesters I've noticed more Black students enrolling, and they're not all immigrants neither.

Blacks are the fastest growing middle class in America too, it's evident also because many inner city Blacks are moving out to the suburbs nationwide, and many are being replaced by immigrant groups, mostly Mexicans, Jamaicans, Haitians, Guatemalans, Colombians, Ghanaian, etc.

To conclude, Blacks are not stagnating in terms of being upwardly mobile. That's a preposterous thing to say in my opinion, when you look at the rapidly growing purchasing power and voting power of the Black American group.
PoliticsRe: Should Nigeria Be Divided? by blackspade(m): 8:25pm On Sep 22, 2008
North Africa doesn't have the largest population in Africa. Egypt has the second largest population, but Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco have some of the smallest populations out of the whole continent. Regions like West Africa and East Africa have much greater populations, even without counting the ones who go uncounted.
