Crime › Woman With 7 Babies born in 12 months Charged with Child Trafficking by blank(op): 11:49am On Jul 13, 2011
BY CHID  NKWOPARA
OWERRI — Imo State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned the seven miracle births alleged mother, Mrs. Precious Ogbonna, at an Owerri Chief Magistrate Court and charged her with childtrafficking.

Charged along with her, in suit number OW/289C/2011 for the same offence, was 30-year-old Adangozi Onuigwe.

The charges against the suspects read: “That you Precious Ogbonna, Adangozi Onuigwe and others now at large, between the 6th day of May 2010 and 2nd day of April 2011, at Umuelele, Irete, Owerri, in Owerri Magisterial District, did conspire with one another to commit felony to wit: trafficking in persons and thereby committed an offence punishableunder Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as applicable in Imo State.”

The two female suspects were equally accused of intending to deprive the parents, guardians or other persons, who had the lawful care or charge of the seven children.

The two women were accused oftaking possession of the said children forcibly or fraudulently take or entice away or receive or harbour the children, therebycommitting an offence punishableunder Section 19(1)(c) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003, as applicable in Imo State.

Vanguard recalls that Imo State Police Command had earlier mustered “a team of sound medical doctors from the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, to probe Mrs. Ogbonna’s alleged medical feat” and several tests had been conducted on the woman, her husband and the seven children.”

An impeccable source in the Command told Vanguard that from the tests so far conducted, there was no proof of a recent pregnancy, adding that the woman was not also pregnant at present.

“Tests have shown that she has a large fibroid in her womb. Her virginal hymen is still copious. It is not possible that she given birth to that number of children with the hymen remaining the way it is,” the police officer said.

The officer disclosed that the blood group, Rhesus Factor and genotype of Mrs. Ogbonna and her husband were “O”, D+ and AA respectively.

“These were not found in four of the children. Medical evidence does not support her claims. Police was not shown were she delivered the babies and there is no proof that she has ever bosom fed any baby before,” the police officer concluded.

The story about the woman and her seven babies came to light when Vanguard published an interview on the alleged medical feat and has followed the story as events unfolded.

To also establish the maternity of the children, Vanguard management offered to conduct a DNA test on the woman and children, and the samples were taken last Monday in Owerri for medical analysis and it is expected that the result would be ready in about two weeks.

Cuddlemii:
I won't justify that abortion is right or not

I will just say this. We Nigerians are fond of pointing accusing fingers at offenders all the time. Have we ever stopped to think about our own self, shortcomings and how to improve on our lives.

On the last day, we shall all account for ourselves. As we speak we can't say accurately that the man that climbs the alter or the choir master are the ones that would make it to heaven. It might be the lady that committed abortion that would get there simply because she lived a sincere life, corrected her mistake and helped souls in need.

Off course it is wrong to take a life but I wont want to judge anyone as I have not finished cleaning the sin in my own life. Just because your own strafing didn't form a baby doesn't justify that u are not a sinner too.Everyone has their lives to live and everyone has made mistakes due to several circumstance beyond their control.

This is a creative writing that doesn't deserve any harsh criticism. Just read and understand it in your own way. Just Let it flow and give it your own meaning or title.
Nobody has mentioned choir master or pastor. Not even talking about sin or the absence of it. Talking about a baby being killed. My strafing wont have produced a baby cos i used protection till i am ready to have a kid. Not using protection but deciding to kill the baby as a form of protection is actually the issue here not sin.

I think abortion could be called murder depending on the stage of pregnancy.

If a pregnancy is 2 weeks old, an ultra-sound cannot  make out the foetus let alone hear the heatbeat. The only evidence of pregnancy would be the blood test.

There is a drug ladies take if they suspect they are 2 weeks pregnant without even going to a specialist (cant remember the name now, but it starts with a G.) All that happens here is that the foetus is flushed out in the form of blood. Is this murder?

From 4 weeks upwards, the foetus begins to develop. I think it is safe to categorize this as murder because there is actually a heartbeat at this stage.

Judging from all I have read here on NL today, I would say that taking birth control pills is murder because in this scenario, the Fluid is killed which makes the unfertilised egg to come out in form of the menstural cycle, hence killing the egg as well.
Im open to corrections and not insults. Thank you.
I don't agree with the highlighted cos what your saying is that if an egg is not fertilized, it means u aborted the baby. U can't kill what has not been formed. Doesn't follow logically to me.

Can i take that to mean that there is such a word like "staffs?" The story behind my love for Enyimba is a long one. When i really av time, i will post it. Suffice it to say, i "used to be" a Man Utd supporter and my husband "used to be" an Arsenal supporter. We both used to go and watch Enyimba or Rangers play and so it became our middle ground.

@Blank, I understand more than you think. But if a young girl of about 14yrs got violated by more than one guy and she ended up pregnant, will you advise that she should keep it?? is it not better for her to abort it and move on with her life. I will love your opinion on this and I'll go on from there.
Even if she is stupid, the hospital should not be stupid. There is such a thing as the morning after pill that can be taken up to 72hrs after sex that still stops conception. Are you trying to tell me that conception ocurrs immediately someone has sex? Why would u want to wait 4 weeks, realise you are pregnant and start talking about abortion?

That being said, if the mother's life is at risk due to the pregnancy ie medical reasons only then can u even justify it a bit. Not that some two iidiots forget to use protection and then the bigger iidiot doesnt even try to reduce the risks of being pregnant.

The truth is, if you fail to prepare you prepare to fail. Everyone should just get ready. Once an interesting forum comes up with all the innovations people want, NLand will start to decline in popularity. There was a job board i used to visit like 5 yrs ago but stopped cos it was kinda boring. Just went there a month ago and was amazed. Completely revamped the site with a section for suggestions. I posted a suggestion and received a reply that very day that it was already up and showed me how to use it. Now, that is innovation. Though i don't need a job but i go there every single day.

Nomination results
This Monday morning the house mates in the house of heads had a nomination session. 16 housemates each nominated two fellow housemates with most housemates not finding it hard to make up their minds on whom to nominate as was before in their previous nomination sessions. The following are the results of the votes they got.

Zeus got 7 votes.

Wendall got 7 votes.

Vina got 3 votes.

Lomwe got 2 votes.

Bernadina got 2 votes.

Kim got 1 vote.

Hanni got 1 vote.

Mumba got 1 vote.

Karen got 1 vote.

Vimbai got 1 vote.

Is it not high time Vina left to make way for Karen?
Now, this is interesting. If i was Vimbai, i would replace Wendall with Karen. Lets see which of the two Nigerians that will be saved. That is if the ones with 2 or more votes are up 4 eviction. It would make it really interesting and throw the field wide open 4 more permutations.

Seems like u av never watched an abortion video. They showed us while we were at NYSC family house. After watching that video u will NEVER think of abortion in the same way.

The doctors take the skull of the baby and CRUSH it and then proceed to tear it into pieces then flush it out. They re-assemble the pieces in a bowl to ensure they got everything out. U could actually see the baby trying to push away from the tongs before the doctor CRUSHED it. I have never wept so much in my life. When u av a baby and you go to the hospital and hear the baby's heartbeat, how can u even think of hurting ur baby?

It was ur carelessness that got him conceived. The little one had no choice in the matter. Why KILL a baby just so you can continue to have unprotected sex?

But babies in the womb can feel pain. Its been scientifically proven. Abortion is murder.

I still keep in touch with my single friends but not as much. I also am trying to make new married friends especially friends with kids. I want to be able to go somewhere with my husband and kids and have everyone be friends.

Sometimes, my single friends don't get it. They want me to come and hang out Friday after work. Can't do so cos my baby is at home. Then they start avoiding the party pooper.

I have to do that cos i spend so much time away from my baby and my husband that i appreciate every little time i get to be with them. That is why i am in the market for family friends. lol.

Long overdue. The way kids are caned is appalling. I went to schools in which caning was not allowed. i feel that caning should be applied in small amounts and with less force and not for all situations. I feel so sad at how kids are beat up all in d name of discipline. With all these caning, how come Nigeria is such an indisciplined country? We need military and police to flog us b4 we maintain queues. People always want to rush and be in front.

Very timely from Fashola. Maybe we will see the nd of people breaking canes on children's backs, blinding them, rubbing pepper/salt into their wounds and other forms of torture. That being said, the parents should be the ones to cane their kids if they do wrong but just a little bit, not too much.
