PoliticsPDP Reacts, As Lai Mohammed Blames It For 'please Pardon Buhari' Video by BleedingPen(op): 11:38am On Sep 09, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has replied Lai Mohammed over his claim that the video of him begging Nigerians to forgive President Buhari was doctored by the party, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, was seen in a viral video pleading for President Muhammadu Buhari to be pardoned over his WAEC results.

“Nigerians should please, pardon President Buhari over his (WAEC) certificate, he doesn’t know where he kept it, it's been over 53 years now since he finished secondary education”, Mohammed had said.

But reacting after he came under attack, the Minister, in a statement obtained by Igbere TV, said the video was “doctored” by the PDP, to make it appear like he was begging Nigerians to forgive President Buhari.

Reacting to the development, however, the PDP in a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Monday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to vacate office as the President of Nigeria.

The statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Buhari should save the judiciary and the nation further troubles by resigning his position.

He said the call for Buhari’s resignation became necessary following the official admission that he does not possess a WAEC certificate, contrary to his claims and disposition before the law.

He berated the Presidency for believing that in “publishing” the video, it could influence the Tribunal to “bend the law after solid evidence have been presented before it against President Buhari”.

Ologbondiyan stated that the pronouncement and appeal for pardon issued by the minister, who is also a lawyer, is a direct guilt plea that “cannot save Buhari from the course of justice in this matter.”

According to him, if Buhari indeed sought for pardon from Nigerians, he should do the needful by toeing the path of honour and vacating the presidential seat without further delay.

Full Statement,

“Our party mocks the Buhari Presidency for pushing out the video wherein the Minister pleaded with Nigerians to pardon President Buhari over his false WAEC certificate claims.

“PDP notes the deliberate ploy of Mohammed to appeal to sentiments, seeing that Mr. President had failed to defend himself before the Presidential petition tribunal.

“From the official pronouncement by the Minister on a national television, it is no longer in dispute before all Nigerians that President Buhari does not possess the educational certificate he claimed in the affidavit he deposed to in his presidential nomination form.

“In this latest shenanigan, President Buhari and his handlers ought to have known that the law, which the judiciary is bound to uphold, is a respecter of no man.

“The PDP reminds President Buhari of how his Presidency vehemently applied the law in similar circumstance to remove a head of an arm of government; a situation, which renders his plea for pardon a complete nullity before the law.”

“It is disheartening that President Buhari and his All Progressives Congress would put our nation through the troubles of legal hassles when they knew all the while that they were building something on nothing.

“The PDP therefore urges the Judiciary to consider the evidence before it and rescue our nation by expediting its verdict to point to nothing other than the justice of the matter in the presidential election petition.”

PoliticsXenophobia: ‘5 People Killed’, Amnesty International Slams S’african Govt by BleedingPen(op): 7:44am On Sep 05, 2019
Amnesty International (AI) says five people have been confirmed dead as violence between locals and foreigners continues to escalate in Johannesburg and other parts of South Africa, Igbere TV reports.

The group condemned the attacks against refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, and looting of foreign-owned shops in the country, while berating the South African government.

The global body said the action “is a direct consequence of years of impunity and failures in the criminal justice system that has left this vulnerable group exposed and unprotected”.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and obtained by Igbere TV, AI said “South African authorities cannot say that they didn’t see this rampant violence coming”.

“For many years refugees, asylum seekers and migrants have been targeted for who they are and what they look like. They have also served as convenient scapegoats for unscrupulous politicians who have pushed the insidious narrative that foreign nationals have stolen jobs and are to blame for everything that is going wrong in the country”, it said.

“The first major outbreak of xenophobic violence witnessed more than 11 years ago which resulted in the killing of more than 60 people, should have been a wake-up call for the authorities to root out hatred against refugees and migrants and hold those responsible to account. Their lack of action has resulted in the subsequent and recurring attacks we’ve seen”, AI added.

It said South Africa has been experiencing systematic looting and burning of businesses belonging to foreign nationals (including Nigerians), largely in Pretoria and Johannesburg, for weeks.

“Businesses belonging to Nigerians and other foreign nationals have been targeted in the two cities, with stock and possessions worth millions burnt to ashes.”

The agency said the violence dramatically escalated last week following confrontations between locals and foreigners, “marked by horrific attacks and killings”.

“The government has largely failed to address past xenophobic, violent outbreaks across the country, instead often continuing to scapegoat foreign nationals for high levels of crime, putting a strain on government services and operating illegal businesses.

“South African authorities must stop fueling xenophobia in their desperate attempt to win political support. Rather, they must build a country that is rooted in respect for human rights and the rule of law that protects everyone.

“South African authorities must come up with a security plan to ensure the safety of all refugees and migrants and seek to end these attacks once and for all. That begins with holding suspected perpetrators of past xenophobic crimes to account and breaking this cycle of impunity,” it added.

Amnesty International, in the statement, also gave a background to the xenophobic crisis, blaming South African authorities of fueling hates amongst its citizens.

“Since 2008 there have been numerous outbreaks of violence against refugees, migrants and asylum seekers in South Africa. In some cases, xenophobia has been fueled by the hate-filled rhetoric of authorities and politicians.

“For example, in December 2016, the Executive Mayor of City of Johannesburg Herman Mashaba labelled foreign nationals living in Johannesburg “criminals” who had hijacked the city. He blamed them for the high levels of crime in the city.

“In November 2018, the then minister of Health, now minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi accused “foreign” nationals of what he called burdening the country’s health system.”

The xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians and other nationals in Johannesburg, Pretoria and other cities have left several people dead and businesses and private properties burnt.

South African authorities say they are responding promptly to curb the violence. More than 70 persons have been reportedly taken into custody since Monday.

Nigerians have expressed outrage about the attacks, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to take decisive measures against South Africa.

Igbere TV reports that the President sent an envoy to South Africa on Tuesday for an on-the-ground assessment of the situation.

On Wednesday, Nigeria recalled its High Commissioner to South Africa, Kabiru Bala, and also pulled out of the World Economic Summit holding in Cape Town.

CrimeXenophobia: Nigerian Man Laments As South Africans Attack, Loot Properties (Pixs by BleedingPen(op): 1:38pm On Sep 02, 2019
South Africans have looted and burnt several properties belonging to Nigerians in the latest xenophobic attack in the country, Igbere TV reports.

The attack which reportedly led to the death of some foreigners with several others injured, took place Sunday night, September 1, 2019.

Igbere TV reports that the latest attack, which is said to be coordinated, was carried out on the streets of Johannesburg, South Africa's capital.

A daughter of one of the affected Nigerians in Sunday's attack, said her father was still in shock having lost goods worth millions in the incident.

Igbere TV gathered that the father (names withheld) deals on cars in South Africa. His shop is said to be among the many others set ablaze over the night.

“When I got the news yesterday (Sunday) evening, I thought it was nothing serious. But my shop and my goods were already gone when I arrived there today (Monday)”, the dad was quoted as saying.

“The means of livelihood of people were looted and destroyed in the midnight fire which was started by the South Africans. We (Nigerians in South Africa) are all traumatized”, he added.

Igbere TV gathered that a group of violent indigenes, Sunday night, attacked and looted shops belonging to Nigerians in Johannesburg and burnt several complexes.

The South African police authorities were said to have dispersed the angry mob and made some arrests, while sending the injured to the hospital.

This is not the first time South Africans will be attacking Nigerians abroad and looting their belongings, since the wake of the deadly xenophobic attacks.

Many Nigerians have lost their lives in the African country, with with few resorting to reprisal attacks having failed to obtain mercies from the relevant government agencies.

Back in Nigeria, several groups and individuals have taken to the streets to protest against the xenophobic attacks, threatening to shut down South African businesses in Nigeria.

At least, MTN Communication, Multichoice (DSTV), Shoprite, Protea Hotel, and many others, have been shut down severally on different occasion.

The Nigerian government have not done much about the lingering crisis except for few diplomatic visits to the South African embassy by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Diaspora Commission Chairperson.

EducationZamfara Includes Fulfulde (Fulani) Language In Curriculum by BleedingPen(op): 8:26pm On Sep 01, 2019
The Zamfara State Government said it will introduce Fulfulde language in its school curriculum as it kickstarts the construction of 300-hectare Ruga settlements during the week.

Governor Bello Matawalle disclosed this in Gusau when he received the state’s Ruga settlement master plan from the project consultant.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor had since announced the carving out of 100 hectares of land in each of the three senatorial districts of the state for the establishment of the pilot special modern Ruga settlement.

During the presentation of the Ruga settlement, the Emir of Mafara, Muhammad Barmo, while speaking on behalf of the state’s Council of Chiefs, urged the state government to include the Fulani language in its curriculum.

Mr Barmo noted that since the Hausa and the Fulani communities were inseparable and while the Hausa language was already being taught in schools, the Fulfulde should also be taught.

Mr Matawalle then directed the state Ministry of Education to immediately start working for the inclusion of the Fulfulde language in the schools’ curriculum.

“This will boost the use of our local languages by our upcoming generations.

“Since we have promised to establish primary and secondary schools at the new Ruga settlements, we will ensure that the local language is not forgotten,” Mr Matawalle said.

NAN also reports that the governor had announced that the establishment of the Ruga settlement would commence during the celebration of his 100 days in office.

He said the state government would ensure early completion of the project before the commencement of the federal government’s Ruga settlement programme in the state.

Mr Matawalle promised to stock the Ruga settlement with modern ways of animal husbandry that would ensure peaceful coexistence among the inhabitants and boost their economic well being.

PoliticsAPC Leaders; Tinubu, Oshiomhole, Spotted At A Public Function In Edo (photos) by BleedingPen(op): 10:27pm On Aug 31, 2019
National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, were spotted at an event in Benin on Saturday.

Igbere TV reports that the duo were seen in the Edo State capital attending the 90th birthday party of Chief David Edebiri, a chieftain of the APC in the state.

While some exco members of the party in the state and top government functionaries were spotted at the event, Governor Godwin Obaseki was conspicuously absent.

A top government official who spoke exclusively to Igbere TV while reacting to Obaseki’s absence, said the governor was in Washington DC attending an event hosted by Edos in the U.S.

But a source within the Edo APC hinted that the governor may have decided to travel out of the country to avoid coming in contact with his predecessor (Oshiomhole) and the party national leader (Tinubu).

He alleged that Obaseki may have jetted out to Washington DC to avoid being confronted by Tinubu whom he said felt insulted by Obaseki’s comments as regards to Edo Assembly crisis.

According to the source, Obaseki had boastfully said he was not like former governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos who couldn't “fight” his godfather (Tinubu) to win a second term and remain in power.

The source further disclosed that even though Obaseki and his predecessor (Oshiomhole) were reported to have settled their differences, issues surrounding the Edo Assembly were yet to be settled.

“The governor called a meeting of aggrieved party members last time telling them he had settled with his boss (Oshiomhole). We all know that is not true. Don't be deceived by pictures, the Edo Assembly feuds are not over”, the source said.

The statement said those who embrace the offer would not face prosecution but those who decline would face the law and all monies they took from government would be recovered from them.

“We are giving the amnesty to all ghost workers within the stipulated period to surrender and negotiate the repayment of all illegally collected funds to the state and Local Government Areas (LGA).

“The state government is happy to announce that it has made significant progress as the verification has saved it and the LGA about N60 million for one month.

“This exercise will be regular until all ghost workers or workers who benefit from illegal, multiple payments are flushed, to ensure more employment opportunities for our brothers and sisters.

“We have procured the services of financial institutions with bias in Information Communication Technology (ICT) to deploy Bank Verification Number (BVN) in tracking and prosecuting ghost workers,” the statement said.

The statement also said the governor has directed relevant authorities to ensure immediate payment of all workers’s salaries, pension and other entitlements for August.

“They should use the approved verification documents authored by the state Head of Service as all stakeholders in charge of payments should take note and act accordingly,” it said.

It attributed the delay in payment of the August salaries by the 15th of the month to the verification aimed at exposing ghost workers especially among teachers and other categories of workers.

N1.7 Billion Fraud: 14 Girls Found Locked Up In Civil Servant's Room

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has said it has freed 14 females locked in a room during a raid on an Abuja house allegedly owned by the National Coordinator, Federal Civil Service Staff with Disabilities Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Alhaji Iliasu Abdul-Rauf.

In a statement by its spokeswoman, Rasheedat Okoduwa, the anti-corruption commission said Abdul-Rauf’s apartment was raided as part of the investigation into his alleged involvement in N1.7 billion fraud.

The statement said, “The ICPC has requested a senior magistrate’s court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, to grant an order for the remand of the National Coordinator, Federal Civil Service Staff with Disabilities Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Alhaji Iliasu Abdul-Rauf, in prison over his alleged involvement in N1.7bn fraud.

“Abdul-Rauf is alleged to have been involved in multiple corrupt acts including bribery, breach of trust, criminal misappropriation and other frauds running into hundreds of millions of naira.

“After his arrest, a search on his house by the commission revealed 14 females between the ages of 11 and 33 years, locked in one of the rooms and were evacuated, after which they were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further investigation.”

PoliticsEdo 2020: Obaseki’s Plan To Decamp To PDP Falls Apart by BleedingPen(op): 10:29am On Aug 31, 2019
The plan of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to run on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2020 governorship election, following the move by members of his party to deny him the APC ticket, may have hit the rock, Igbere TV reports.

This followed the reported switch of interest and political re-calculation by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, whom Obaseki had heavily relied on to facilitate the switch and land him the Edo PDP’s governorship ticket.

Igbere TV reliably gathered from sources close to Nyesom Wike that the Rivers State Governor, who is considered one of the party’s most influential figures, has refused to grant Obaseki audience despite repeated prompts from his Edo State colleague.

Obaseki had hoped that his offer to join the PDP with some 9 House of Assembly members would represent an appealing prospect for the opposition party but the PDP has turned their backs on him, with Nyesom Wike shunning his repeated requests for a meeting.

“The development is a major dent to Obaseki’s 2020 strategy as the planned move had already severed his relationship with the Presidency after it was revealed to the APC NWC that the governor was planning to swell the ranks of the opposition with a possible switch”, a source in the Edo APC said.

This, according to some sources in Abuja who spoke to Igbere TV, is part of the reasons the governor has failed to secure any federal appointment for his nominees, with the Oshiomhole’s camp having its way.

However, to prepare for himself a soft landing, Obaseki is reportedly consulting with Rochas Okorocha to ascertain the availability of his Action Alliance (AA) party and whether the platform would be open to him to run on in 2020.

“This is why the Senator (Okorocha) was against the move of the National Assembly to take over the Edo Assembly and even opposed the Senate leadership during the debate on the issue”, a source familiar with the development said.

Meanwhile, in a similar development, Igbere TV gathered that Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shaibu, and Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, are scheming to dump the governor and switch loyalty to Adams Oshiomhole.

Igbere TV recalls that Ogie contested against and lost to Obaseki in the 2016 primaries, sources say he is still "bitter" about the outcome and may want a joint ticket with Shaibu with Oshiomhole’s backing.

“The same was the case for the deputy governor (Philip Shaibu) who felt his political machinations were ignored and spent the first months of the administration undermining the governor.

“On one occasion, he refused to accompany Obaseki to the state assembly for the presentation of the budget as is customary, and only yielded ground after interventions from leadership of the party”, a source said.

The new plot by the deputy governor and the SSG, Igbere TV gathered, is centered on pitching the viability of a Ogie/Shaibu ticket to the National Chairman, while singling out Godwin Obaseki as the sole architect of the crisis rocking the Edo APC.
