The primary election holds August 29, already incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello has picked his nomination form, seeking to return for a second term. “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has received petitions from some stakeholders in Kogi State in reaction to Indirect Primaries adopted for the election of the Party’s candidate for the forthcoming Governorship election in the state. “The NWC will look at the merit of the petitions in line with the Party’s constitution and come out with a position in due course. “The NWC, therefore, thank the aggrieved APC stakeholders in Kogi State for the peaceful manner in which they have conducted themselves so far and their trust in the NWC to do the right thing. “It needs restating that the APC Constitution which was reemphasized by a decision of National Executive Committee (NEC) provides for three modes of primaries to elect Party candidates – Indirect, Direct Primaries and consensus – depending on the peculiarities of the state and preferences of the stakeholders in respective elections. “We assure all concerned parties that the NWC would be guided only by our rules”, a statement sent to Igbere TV by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, APC National Publicity Secretary, read. All Progressives Congress (APC) member representing Bende Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, on Monday said there will be no rerun in Bende, stressing that he won the election that brought him in as lawmaker. Hon. Kalu made the declaration while speaking with Igbere TV, after his testimony before the Election Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the Abia Sate capital. His appearance was for the continued hearing of the legal battle between him and his major opponent in the last election, Chima Ayanso of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). Igbere TV reports that Chima Anyaso is challenging the victory of Ben Kalu over alleged contraventions of the electoral Act in the declaration of the poll result in Bende Federal constituency. . Speaking with Igbere TV after the court session, Hon. Kalu said: “They are not going to call for a rerun because I won the election, and that is final. We worked very hard, I campaigned morning and night and I am very popular in Bende. “I won Chima Anyanso with 3,560 votes that is the truth. How can a man come to court when I won him in his own unit where he cast his vote. I won him with 61 votes (in his unit), and the entire Igbere votes. So, where is he getting his confidence to approach the court when his own immediate family rejected him at the polling unit? We are standing for the truth and that is what will set Bende free.” Asked why he appeared in court in person, Ben Kalu said, “We are following the nine yards of the law that is why I came (in person) to honour the invitation of the court and also for me to testify. I gave my testimony to the best of my knowledge, and you saw for yourselves, all their questions had answers coming from me and their lawyers were struggling with questions to ask me because you know in law we say truth flows, there is no junction in truth. You cannot manipulate it, if it is true, it is true.” He also revealed that out of the eighteen results sheet from the election, fifteen of them had been certified okay by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). On his advice to the people of Bende Federal Constituency, the lawmaker said “they should remain peaceful, not to resort to violence, let them be patient. I have confidence in the judiciary. I am also part of the judiciary as a lawyer before I went into lawmaking. I believe so much in the judiciary. When they see the truth, it doesn’t matter how much money you throw around; they will keep to the truth. The people I saw there, I know they will maintain the truth, I know they are here to do their job credibly and am sure Bende people will be happy at the end of the day.” Igbere TV correspondent who covered the court sitting reports that over 1000 supporters from all the wards in Bende thronged the Tribunal in solidarity with Hon. Ben Kalu, insisting that the people of Bende overwhelmingly voted the lawmaker, describing him as the “best for Bende in Abuja.” http://igberetvnews.com/826105/therell-be-no-rerun-hon-ben-kalu-shines-at-election-tribunal/ Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T. B. Joshua, has called on Nigerians to offer “special” prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria in general, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the cleric made the call during a live televised service at his church’s headquarters in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos, on Sunday, July 7. According to our correspondent, who monitored the broadcast, Prophet Joshua said he was going to share a vision concerning the president and the nation, which he had a couple of weeks ago. He urged Nigerians to pray for God to grant President Buhari enough wisdom to lead the country. Joshua said: “Ask God to protect and fill him with wisdom enough to lead this nation. In my vision, I saw the sago phim coming down with rain. This rain comes with freshness and calmness. Nigeria, let us pray!” http://igberetvnews.com/824999/just-in-pray-for-buhari-popular-pastor-urges-nigerians/ Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J |
The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA), has given the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to prosecute Senator Danjuma Goje, Igbere TV reports. The group said it will drag President Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government to court if they fail to immediately try Goje, at the expiration of the ultimatum. Igbere TV recalls that the Federal Government had, through its lead counsel, strike out corruption charges against the former governor of Gombe State at the Plateau State High Court. This comes less than 30 days after the former Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriations stepped down his Senate Presidential ambition after a meeting with Buhari in Aso Rock. Goje was being tried by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly misappropriating over N5 billion between September and November 2010, when he held sway as governor. Reacting to the development in a statement sent to Igbere TV, Chairman of HEDA, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju said the withdrawal of the case cannot be justified “as it only solidified claims by providing more evidence that the corruption fight of the President has been compromised.” Full Statement, “The action of the FG confirms the suspicion that Goje trial has been waved aside because of his decision to step as the Senate President for President Mohammadu Buhari's prefered candidate, Senator Ahmed Lawan. “This withdrawal has no justification except to confirm the rife speculations that the case was compromised to meet "political considerations” as in previous cases taken over by the AGF office. “The AGF had set "bitter precedents" that the fight against corruption is selective depending on the political camp the suspected culprits belong. "The withdrawal is in bad taste and this group will deploy all the constitutional legal means to defend public interest in this particular case. “The international community would be notified of this subversion of rule of law and justice by the present regime. “Bilateral laws and agreement between Nigeria and other foreign nations will be explored to exposed both the government and the suspect. Constitutional provision on Nolle Prosequi is not to pervert justice but protect public interest.” http://igberetvnews.com/824896/group-gives-buhari-14-day-ultimatum-to-prosecute-goje

Aggrieved protesters have shut down the ever-busy Benin-Ore-Lagos expressway over the gruesome murder of a yet-to-be identified young lady, Igbere TV reports. The lady was said to have been raped and murdered by suspected Fulani Herdsmen who have been terrorising the community. Igbere TV reports that the protesters in their numbers, on Tuesday afternoon, blocked the popular Okada junction, near Benin, Edo State capital. Our correspondent, who happens to be among the road users currently stranded, reports that the aggrieved residents are currently on rampage and have chased out Hausa traders in retaliation. Igbere TV reports that a Northern man who had his wares (Indomie, Suya etc) in a nearby kiosk, also got a share of the aggrieved residents actions. His wares were thrown off and given a hot chase but managed to get away. According to an eyewitness, even the security men who were mobilized to the scene could not manage the situation. She said the aggrieved residents equally resisted a VIP who had wanted to pass through the blocked road with his team of escorts. “Fulani Herdsmen allegedly raped and butchered a lady earlier today at the Okada junction. “Government officials wanted to pass with police officers but the youths reacted violently. “They are now attacking Hausa ‘mishai’ (bread & egg) sellers,” she added. When contacted by Igbere TV, Spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the force is yet to be briefed. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu says he supported Femi Gbajabiamila, former House Majority Leader for the Reps Speakership position due to his “amazing” personality and wealth of experience in legislative business. Ben Kalu is All Progressives Congress (APC) member representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, and one of the staunch supporters of Gbajabiamila throughout his campaign for the Reps number one seat. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Igbere TV over the weekend in Abuja, Ben Kalu said the personality of the Lagos lawmaker motivated him to throw his weight behind his ambition for the Reps Speakership, despite having other candidates for the post from his party. He said he saw competence and wealth of experience in the four-term lawmaker (now serving his fifth term), which made him not to relent in his support for him till the inauguration morning when he cast his vote. According to him, Femi Gbajabiamila has what it takes to effectively lead the 9th House of Representatives, having been in the Parliament for 17 years. Ben Kalu who hinted that Tuesday (inauguration day) remains one of his most memorable day in the lower legislative chamber, said he feels fulfilled having seen Gbajabiamila emerged Speaker. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu representing Abia North Senatorial District, has commenced the second batch of distribution of 450,000 palm seedlings to rural farmers in Abia and other neighbouring states. The project is one of the empowerment programmes introduced by the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation to bring back the glorious days of high palm oil production and to boost the economies of families in Nigeria. The aim of the gesture, Igbere TV gathered, was to revive, boost and reinvigorate the agricultural sector in the state and Nigeria as a whole. Igbere TV reports that the first batch, which commenced in April under the Agricultural Empowerment Initiative of the Senator’s Foundation, saw the distribution of special high yielding palm seedlings at no cost to farmers. Speaking at the launch of the seedlings at his Igbere country home in Bende Local Government Area, the two-time governor said the initiative was his own support to President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy to revolutionise agriculture in Nigeria. He also said that the initiative was designed to encourage the people, particularly youths, to delve into farming to create wealth and become self-reliant. “This is a sure way of creating wealth among the people. It is better than sharing money to them,” he said. Kalu, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in the state, said that the distribution would cut across party line, describing the gesture as non-partisan. http://igberetvnews.com/795487/agric-empowerment-kalu-commences-2nd-batch-distribution-of-450000-palm-seedings-photos/ Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently protesting against Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Igbere TV can report. Igbere TV reports that the protest currently taking place in Abuja, is being co-ordinated by groups loyal to President Buhari, including members of the Buhari Media Organization (BMO). Our correspondent monitoring the development reports that members of the group are calling for Kyari’s removal, accusing him of running the presidency as a cabal. Igbere TV reports that the protesters were armed with placards of various inscriptions including: “No more cabal, no more intimidation, PMB remains our sole leader”, “We need fresh ideas not recycling men and women who have spent over 40 years in government”, “Hardwork must be rewarded”, etc. Already, some personal aides of the Presidency and staunch supporters of the ruling party have taken the protest to Twitter under the hash tag #AbbaKyariMustGo! Recall that the group held similar demonstration in protest against the appointment of some personal aides of Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan. They labeled such persons as saboteurs, having linked them to ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They insisted that the opposition cannot “reap” where they did not sow, adding that such appointments should instead favour members of the APC and not individuals who fought against the “Next Level” agenda. Igbere TV reports that the protest led to the sack of Festus Adedayo as Media Adviser to Lawan, barely 48 hours after his appointment. Just yesterday, Olu Onemola, an ex-aide to Saraki resigned his reappointment as Special Assistant (New Media) to Ahmad Lawan. President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, has reacted to the resignation of his aide, Mr. Olu Onemola. Igbere TV had earlier reported the resignation of Onemola as Special Assistant on New Media to Lawan. Onemola is an ex-aide to Senator Bukola Saraki, whose reappointment by Lawan had sparked controversy, especially within the circle of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He tendered his resignation letter earlier today saying he would want to be excused from the job because of the controversy it has generated. Reacting to the development, Dr. Ahmad Lawan said he has accepted the resignation of Onemola as his aide on New Media. This was contained in a tweet on the official handle of the Senate President [@SPNigeria] on Sunday. “Olu Onemola, the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate has resigned his appointment. “The resignation is contained in a letter he addressed to the Senate President. “In the letter, Onemola thanked Lawan for the offer to continue to serve and promote the work of the 9th Senate, “which I'm sure is borne out your patriotic desire to serve the Nigerian people.” “The President of the Senate has since approved the resignation and wished Onemola all the best in his future endeavors,” the tweet read. http://igberetvnews.com/791267/breaking-lawans-aide-steps-down-for-being-linked-to-saraki/

Mr. Olu Onemola, an ex-aide to Senator Bukola Saraki, has withdrawn his services as Special Assistant (SA) to Senate President Ahmad Lawan on New Media, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Onemola, who held same position while working for Saraki in the 8th Senate, was reappointed by Lawan on June 19, days after his inauguration. His appointment and that of others who worked for the former Senate President had sparked controversy in the past few days, especially within the circle of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a Tweet by @APCUKingdom, obtained by Igbere TV on Sunday, Onemola said he would want to be excused from taking up the assignment because of the controversy it has generated. “As an individual who prides myself in always setting a high standard and significant precedents I feel honoured to have been asked to fill this vital role in the service of our great country. “I thank you sir, for the offer to continue on to serve and promote the work of the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic which I am sure is home out of your patriotic desire to serve the Nigerian people. “However, at this time, given my personal antecedents, and the controversy that this has generated, I would respectfully like to be excused from taking up this national assignment. “It is my hope that whoever does fill this role, builds upon what we have started in terms of opening up the activities of the Nigerian Senate to the public. “I will be ready and available in whatever way to give my recommendations if and when requested as the new team begins its work. “I have communicated my decision to the Chief of Staff, Babagana Muhammad Aji, and I wish the new team all the best as they work to meet the demands of the Nigerian people.” https://www.nairaland.com/5261118/twitter-user-drags-taxify-driver#79602442 Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

A Nigerian lady has taken to Twitter to narrate her experience in the hands of a Bolt (taxify) driver, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the lady identified as Akinola Tosin, said she was assaulted by the driver in Lagos. According to her, trouble started when she got to her destination and opted to pay via transfer but the driver ended up not getting the alert. She said she explained to the driver that she carried out the transaction and even showed him the debit alert but the driver wouldn't let her go. He instead took her away from her destination and drove all the way down to UNILAG gate and forced her out. She, however, said she insisted that the driver must take her back to her destination, which the man rejected and took her to the station. She wrote; “Ok this driver (attached photo) took me to my house, I did a transfer to him, he didn’t get the money and this man locked the car, wind up the windows and drove me away from my house to Unilag gate, ranting all the way, ‘I ll disgrace you today’. “All the way I kept showing him the prof of payment via my phone but he wouldn’t answer. I told him there was no point moving me away from my destination since he already drove me there. Told him if he takes me anywhere, he’s gonna take me back to my destination cos I paid him. “Only for him to get to gate, skipped the Unilag gate securities and drove me to the side of the road where keke napep going to bariga do load and asked us (my friend n I) to come down from the car. I told him we would not, he had to take us home, only for him to assault us. “I would have posted the videos but my boobs were literally out since he tore my cloth already. I sent the videos to @Boltapp_ng and I’m yet to get a response. “Then he drove me to Bariga police station where he he lied incessantly and he got the police to side him. I narrated what happened to them but they seemed blind and deaf to the fact that he assaulted me. Kept me behind the counter while he roamed freely. Slut-shamed me severally. “Making it seem like I’m a slut and because of that I deserved the assault. Constantly slut-shaming my mother too. Funny thing is, he didn’t check his phone till he got to gate, assaulted me and the matter escalated before he actually grabbed his phone to even check. “I have voice recordings of him saying all sorts to me. Like the police actually said they understand him acting this way cos he hadn’t gotten the alert. Like you mean a man can assault me cos of that? Telling me to forget the fact that he slut shamed myself and my mother “Before I even knew it Baba had removed my wig and I was seeing this on my face, seeing myself almost half naked @Boltapp_ng “Eventually, my sis came to the police station, did the transfer two more times, got debited each time. Then it dawned on him then that it’s most likely his bank. Then the police settled for him making calls to us and refunding the money when he gets them all. “The same calling I advised him to do from the start in case he doesn’t get the money . “I asked my friend to alert the securities at unilag gate and instead of him to wait he started to drive off, to bariga. Throughout the ride my door was wide opened yet he didn’t stop. @Boltapp_ng pls ask him why he didn’t wait for the securities to attend to the matter “This particular guy (attached photo) wasn’t at the scene. But he came to bear false witness for the guy and kept lying without conscience. “There were two women at the station, police officers. Before they even heard anything at all, they already called me a runs girl multiple times. Then when I stood up to them telling them to stop calling me names and all they put me behind the counter. “These men (attached photo) that came to the scene to get him off me started to beg me, asking me to dead the matter and go home. Cos I didn’t yield they got mad at me for not accepting. And I’m like after he did all these to me, I should just say ok and go home? Then they connived with him. “They were the ones that told him not to stay at the scene to let Unilag securities meet him there. They told him to drive off, deceiving me that he’s just gonna park at MRS filling station.” Igbere TV was able to obtain some exclusive pictures of the alleged assault, including video recording of the driver and audio of the scenario. Her tweets have attracted several comments with many condemning the act and calling for the driver's arrest. Some Twitter users however sided the driver saying he may have fell victim of fake alerts in the past, adding that taxify does not support transfer as method of payment. The Police Public Complaints Unit has similarly reached out to the lady on Twitter, assuring that her complaints had been noted. Similarly, popular civil right activist and #EndSARS convener, @SegaLink, had reached out to the lady, assuring that justice must be served. “Distinguished @akinolatosin7, please be assured that this driver will be made an example by @Boltapp_ng, a brand I know to be strict on impunity & human right abuse. You will get a response soonest from Bolt as the evidence on this case is being gathered. He won’t go unpunished”, he wrote. Contrary to the widely held view that the Ninth Senate under Senator Ahmed Lawan would be a rubber-stamp Parliament, the Senate Leader on Friday declared that he would not be a rubber-stamp Senate President if he emerges. A Christian group, Concerned Christian Forum of Nigeria (C²FN), has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, to resign his position. The coalition made their stand known in a statement issued to Igbere TV on Thursday, through their leader, Rev. Prince Thompson. “The Concerned Christian Forum of Nigeria therefore demands the immediate resignation of Reverend Supo Ayokunle as CAN President. “Our demand entails that the entire CAN executive resigns with the president to allow the association replace them with a leadership that will chart a course that conforms to the ideology upon which CAN was founded. “If the rejected CAN executive is at a loss as to why it has to go, it only needs to look to the existence of our forum,” the statement read. http://igberetvnews.com/750655/just-in-coalition-of-pastors-gives-can-president-7-days-to-resign/ Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has disowned the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, over his comments on Ninth Assembly leadership. Igbere TV recalls that, Senator Enang had claimed that the APC had zoned the Deputy Senate Presidency to the South-South, and endorsed the Senator representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege for the position. Reacting, however, the ruling party under the auspices of ‘Concerned APC Caucus’, declared that the party had yet to zone the position of Deputy Senate President to the South-South geopolitical zone. The declaration, Igbere TV gathered exclusively, came after an extensive meeting of the caucus on Wednesday, in Abuja. The group in a statement sent to Igbere TV, condemned a statement credited to Senator Ita Enang, which claimed that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, from Delta State, had been endorsed by the party for the position of Deputy Senate President. The group alleged that Enang could not speak for the party neither could he still be speaking for the Presidency because he is no longer the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “Section 151 of the 1999 Constitution states that the appointment of all special advisers shall cease when the President ceases to hold office, while Section 171 states that the appointment of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and any office or the personal staff of the President shall cease when the President ceases to hold office," it said. The statement was signed by Senators Segun Bello and Sunday Umutu. Full Statement, “Our attention has been drawn to the statement of Senator Ita Enang in an interview on Radio Nigeria on Wednesday, 5th June, 2019. “In the interview, Senator Enang stated that Senator Ahmad Lawan will emerge as Senate President of the Ninth Senate while Femi Gbajabiamila will emerge as Speaker House of Representatives. “He went on to state that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege will emerge as Deputy Senate President. “Although, in the interview he was referred to as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, we write to state that he spoke in personal capacity and expressed his own opinion and certainly not in any way the position of the Presidency. “It should be noted that his appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters ceased with the end of the President’s first term on May 29, 2019 as provided in Section 151(3) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended). “Therefore, his statement about Senator Ovie Omo-Agege should be seen wholly as figment of his imagination, because he has probably supported him. “It must also be noted that the All Progressives Congress nominated Senator Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila for Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively and not by any individual.” http://igberetvnews.com/750286/9th-nass-apc-disowns-ita-enang-says-dsp-not-zoned/ Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44, OAM4J
