PoliticsRe: Western Nigeria Governors To Bid For Murtala Muhammed Airport Concession by Blue3k2(op): 3:22am On Apr 16, 2018
There's nothing stopping the Niger delta states from bidding for Port Harcourt Airport. Akwa Ibom and Delta already own and opperate their own airports. As long the airports aren't run by federal government we're already better off. Who knows maybe they'll copy later on.

limeta:
We can only sit and look from niger delta
What a life for us.
PoliticsRe: Western Nigeria Governors To Bid For Murtala Muhammed Airport Concession by Blue3k2(op):
They didn't bid on Akure or Ibadan because neither airport has be approved for concession yet. The airports approved for concession are Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano. The Federal executive council should approve Enugu and rest of airports asap.

kettykings:
why not bid for Ibadan or Akure Airport or build a new airport . this is very good step anyway , but if Odua telecom , wema bank failed then there is nothing really the concession will achieve except add some few infra and raise the taxes people pay to use the Airport

This is great move for Odua investment group. There's already a state run airports so I'm sure the SW governors will do well. Lagos joined the Odua investment group right when this plan can to together. Odua group owns Airport Hotel Ikeja and Western Hotels (i.e. Premier and Lafia Hotels, Ibadan).

The Western Nigeria Governors is on with plans to bid for the concession of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, and turn it into world-class infrastructure. Governors of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Lagos rose from the Western Nigeria Governors Forum to agree that the State of the region as a bloc would be monitoring the concession process.
The Forum also confirmed Mr Oluseye Oyeleye as the substantive Director General of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria [DAWN] Commission.

The Governors, in the communiqué read by Mr Oyeleye, said a regional agricultural summit to be sponsored by the Lagos State Government would hold in May 2018, in Ibadan, Capital of Oyo State.
The Governors resolved that DAWN Commission representatives and agriculture Commissioners from each State should hold a technical session with the Nigeria Incentive – Based Risk Sharing system for agricultural lending [NIRSAL] and develop a State-by-State road Map in four weeks before the regional Agriculture Summit that will hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The South West Governors also charged the DAWN Commission to conduct a study on the success in education in Ekiti State, for peer learning adoption among the Western States, just as it also urged the focal representatives to structure a programme on the Omoluabi ethos of the Yoruba race. The Forum also tasked the commission to work on reviving regional inter-state football competition.

This guy is a patriot in the words of sarrki.
PoliticsWarri Gets $100 Million Fabrication Plant by Blue3k2(op):
A Nigerian oil servicing firm, Lee Engineering and Construction Company, has established a $100 million fabrication plant in Warri, Delta State to meet the fabrication needs of multinational companies in the oil and gas sector.

The newly completed oil and gas production plant, according to the chairman of the company, Chief Lemon Ikpea, is dedicated to produce high pressure vessels, heat exchangers, gas-heat exchangers, water bath heaters, glycol, skits, scrubbers, process modules, tanks and flare systems as well as carry out maintenance on existing pressure/process vessels and its components.

He said the vision of the new plant was to build an indigenous world-class manufacturing and fabrication workshop that would serve the industrial needs of Nigeria and Africa, especially in the oil and gas, and power sector.
Ikpea added that he was motivated to set up the fabrication company in order to contribute his quota to the oil and gas sector and also to tap into the local content drive of the federal government.

Under the local content scheme, government encourages indigenous companies in the oil and gas sector to provide services to the big players in the sector and benefit from its financial resources.

He told newsmen in Warri: “If you look around the oil and gas sector, most production are done outside the shores of this country and if we fold our hands and wait for government’s foreign friends and partners to transfer technology to this country, I don’t see that happening, considering the market situation.

“If they transfer technology to you, the question to ask will be, who will be buying from them? So they will be reluctant to do that. Our mission is to produce high quality, reliable and durable products through competent workforce and best technology within regulatory laws. We intend to change the existing orientation of clients procuring similar components abroad with scarce hard currency and, in the process, boost national economy and reduce procurement lead time”.

Saying the company’s intention was to support the government in creating jobs for the teeming unemployed youths and save huge foreign exchange for the nation, he stated: “We decided to key into the local content policy of government, which was enacted into law in 2010. We want government to give more power to the Nigerian Local Content Management Board to ensure that Nigerians fully participate in any investment, expansion and Greenfields to be established in many parts of this country. It is from there that our people will learn, build capacity, learn on the job, and also the government will save half of what is meant to originally go to foreign companies”.

He disclosed that as part of the company’s local content policy, Lee Engineering has so far sent 50 technicians and engineers to The Netherlands for training, adding that by the time the fabrication facility is fully operational other trainees would also be sent to The Netherlands and other parts of the world for training in marketing of the products and the and after sale services.

In other word, Buhari is now a clearing agent and a middle man, all to kill 3 birds with 1 stone, evading duty tax for their cronies, secretly shipping in arms and counting money generated by Yoruba as northern money. Talk about robbing peter to pay Paul.

My type is your fear due to light we shine on your darkest plan. And it all boils down to Yoruba because, Yoruba are the ones being robbed and we are the only people who can stop this if we so.wish. How is the dryport going to make the service faster, when the distance and time are still the same? Ode, not everyone is dumb like you. Ports congestion can be relieved by eliminating bureaucracies and getting an annex around.

Fool, the open borders are in the north, justifiably so, because the only thing crossing the border over there is death.

Paranoia is what drives you and will eventually kill you and yours. Whatever you grow in the north is sold in the local market in exchange for money, it adds nothing to the federation account, you don't pay any taxes and you are so useless to the country as a whole.

What will happen to your dryport when Yoruba ports and borders are beyond your reach? It's then you will see the uselessness of the dryport.

Hold the feeding bottle with your might while it lasts because your dry ports today will be depots for all your future returning Almanjiris.
PoliticsRe: Funtua Katsina Dry Port May Commence Operations In May by Blue3k2(op):
1. The port of the dry port is decongest other ports and act as transhipment hub. Shippers will be able to use dry port as port if origin to sent and receive items. The only they are build is to keep current ports decongested since by send things rail.

2. The goods in question land at sea port and shipped to dry port to be examined by customs. The dry port collects the duty.

3. You're a funny conspiracy theorist like your friend. I can tell you aren't a smart enough for crime. If you want to evade taxes and customs you would just go through unmanned sections of border like the rest if the smugglers. Your asking me why would shippers use dry port if they don't have evil intention. Maybe they want fast service and don't want haul their vehicles on the road.

4. Lol paranoia will kill you guys. It's funny how all these nonsense rants end with Yoruba. Did you even consider fact the dry port in Kaduna for example has export potential for its agricultural goods? The dry ports will have food processing plants so the can export stuff like ginger out.

Truthcat:
What's the need for dry ports in those places you mentioned if not for corruption? Oyo is close to Lagos, and Abia is close to Porthacourt.

You can have 100 dry ports of you are going to fly in your cargos directly to your dry ports, not by fraudulently using Lagos and Ogun to bring in goods and not paying the duty there where it landed, but paying duties somewhere else in the north.

The only thing funny is you trying to stick this idea to people who are smarter than you.

What's the purpose of dry ports anywhere in the north if not to bring in secret weapons to kill Nigerians and help fulani evade import duties on their exotic cars among others? The goods will still come through Yoruba water and borders, and travel the same distance to the north, so why can't the shippers and carriers do it themselves if there's no evil intention behind it.

This is so bad, but since Yoruba are too fearful, dumb and don't love themselves or their land enough to say or do anything about it.
PoliticsRe: Funtua Katsina Dry Port May Commence Operations In May by Blue3k2(op): 6:06am On Apr 13, 2018
Ok you by your logic the dry ports aren't the issue since criminals didn't need it to get weapons through. Nothing changes except for added benefits dry ports offer to businesses and consumers. I also remember twice where shot guns were seized at lagos ports last year. Do you have any more concerns about dry ports.

Even the onitsha port you can make sane funny claim if you wanted to. They just want more ways clear guns. You just have to ignore the other options criminals have.

SalamRushdie:
We are all witnesses to occasions where Nigerian ports have been used to smuggle in a lot of weapons , I remember just before Boko Haram escalated how a consignment of similar weapons from Iran was shipped into this country and also how a large antonov cargo plane was allowed into an airport in the north east under some funny guise..

PoliticsKaduna Dry Port Will Change Nigeria’s Economic Landscape – Bello by Blue3k2(op):
Since the Kaduna Inland Dry Port was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari in January, government agencies responsible for full operations of the facility have been busy putting in place all the requirements to ensure that it competes with other Inland Container Depots (ICDs) across the globe. In this interview, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Barrister Hassan Bello sheds more light on what his council, which is the implementing agency for the port is doing, among other issues. Excerpts:

Daily Trust: The commissioning of the Kaduna Inland Dry Port by President Muhammadu Buhari was greeted with excitement by residents, who are the immediate beneficiaries. What are some of the post-commissioning developments?

Hassan Bello: As you already know, it is the first among the seven Inland Container Depots (ICDs) to qualify to be so commissioned, having fulfilled the basic requirements of a modern Inland Dry Port. Since then, Government Agencies responsible for ensuring that the facility is fully operational, notably, the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have been busy putting in place all that is required to achieve that.

At the instance of the project implementation agency i.e. Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a STATION CODE to Kaduna Inland Dry Port. The code is a Mandatory Certification, by the National Customs Administration, authorizing shipping lines to accept cargo bound for Kaduna Inland Dry Port, from any part of the world and also for them to accept export cargo from the facility thereby effectively declaring the facility as a port of destination and a port of origin. This declaration is the single most important requirement for the facility to operate as an Inland Dry Port and it has been fulfilled.

Also at the instance of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced a week long activities, with effect from Tuesday 3rd March, 2018, for the Deployment of Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System II (NICIS II) at the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, thereby making it the 3rd port (after Kirikiri Lighter Terminal and Tincan Island Port) nationwide, to be connected to the latest customs cargo clearance platform, even ahead of the premier Apapa Port Complex, Onne, Rivers, Calabar and Warri ports.  A team of 8 senior customs officers have been dispatched from their Headquarters to KIDP for the exercise which will end on Monday next week with the training of stakeholders on the new system. Deployment of NICIS II will make cargo clearance at the Inland Dry Port, faster and more efficient than in most of the nation’s seaports;

DT: In specific terms, how would all these put food on the tables of the ordinary Nigerians and also create employment opportunities?

Bello: There is no gainsaying the fact that the Kaduna Inland Dry Port will create tens of thousands of jobs. All dry ports do. The potentials for jobs creation are even high in the case KIDP. Like you know, agriculture is the main stay of Kaduna State and indeed the neighbouring states of Northern Nigeria as well as the landlocked countries that share common border with Nigeria, like Niger, Chad and Cameroon. For instance, Kaduna State is known to be the largest producer of ginger in the country, so the new port provides the opportunity for the exportation of processed agricultural produce to other countries of the world. The market for Kaduna ginger will improve tremendously once the dry port commences full operations with exportation of the produce and others such as hibiscus, sesame seed, Shea butter etc to China, Singapore, America, UK and other countries of the world where agricultural products are in high demand.

That’s not all. Anywhere that shipping business takes place, you will find a chain of other businesses. In the case of Kaduna Inland Dry Port, there will agricultural processing centres, banks, etc. Already, Nigerian Shippers’ Council has invited NEXIM Bank to explore the possibility of financing some investment projects (such as agric. cargo processing centers etc.) in the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, towards boosting its capacity and diversifying its services. I assure you that many jobs will be created and the people of Kaduna State and Nigerians will be happy.

DT: Aside job creation and revenue generation, what other opportunities can be derived from this project?

Bello: Dry ports bring shipping to the doorsteps of the common man. It reduces the cost of transportation and also a centre for export. One key advantage of the dry port is that it solves logistical problems that are associated with shipping business at the seaports. The process of export is tedious, and so the contribution is to bring the port near the people. The definition of a modern port is where goods are loaded and discharged. You need not have any water element or maritime. So a dry port is as good a port as Apapa. It is a port of origin and destination, a port of loading and discharge.

And since the Customs are here, the goods meant for export will be examined, not in Lagos or Port Harcourt, but in Kaduna. You pay custom duty there. So, they are just transported from the sea, directly to the dry port. We have them in five locations. Unfortunately, their development has not been even and rightly they couldn’t have been.

We have now signed new agreements with the concessionaires and have already given them a kind of subtle warning that the concession will be revoked if we don’t see any progress. Kaduna is operating now as a dry port and we are doing all within our powers to make it a kind of an industrial hub. Kaduna has the best ginger but they cannot meet export expectations. Before you export, it goes bad, so you need to have processing plants.

DT: The operation of Inland Container Depots (ICDs) in Nigeria predates the current efforts being spearheaded by the Shippers Council. What did you do differently to ensure the commencement of this important project?

Bello: The Dry Port Project is a tripartite arrangement between the Federal Government (represented by the Nigerian Shippers Council), the Kaduna State Government and the Inland Container Nigeria Limited (ICNL), the Concessionaire of the Kaduna Inland Dry Port. The Kaduna Inland Dry Port is a success story largely because of the support that we have continued to receive from the governor of the state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai. I want to say emphatically that he and Mr. President have been of tremendous support to ensure smooth running.

Significantly, the Kaduna State Government is working very hard at ensuring that all the infrastructure needed at the port; the road, the rail and all equipment necessary for the operation, are in place. The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation has also been very helpful. It has dedicated 20 cargoes to Kaduna Dry Port and the stakeholders are already canvassing for cargoes from China and United Kingdom as the port is a port of origin and destination.

Let me therefore use this medium to appeal to the concessionaires of the six other dry ports in Isiala Ngwa (Abia State), Erunmu, Ibadan (Oyo State), Heipang (Plateau State), Zawachiki (Kano State), Funtua (Katsina State) and Maiduguri (Borno State), to hasten development.

Equatorial Marine Oil and Gas Limited, concessionaire to the Funtua Inland Dry Port (FID), has disclosed that the container freight station will be ready to begin operations in May 2018.

Chairman of the company, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab disclosed this in Lagos.

Mutallab said construction of the site is nearing completion.

The chairman affirmed that the facility has the capacity to handle 10,000 Twenty Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of boxes at the first instance, adding that the figure would be upgraded to higher capacity in the future.

Meanwhile, the Jos Inland Container Depot, one of the seven depots concessioned by the Federal Government, is almost at its completion stage.

The Plateau State based freight station being developed under a 25-year concession to Duncan Maritime Ventures Ltd, headed by Dr. Godfrey Shitgurum, a seasoned freight and logistics expert.

Although the project is being executed under the auspices of Federal Government, the Plateau State Government donated 33.4 hectares of land as its equity contribution to the project.

The land donation enabled Duncan Maritime Ventures Ltd. to forge ahead with the Phase 1 of the development which comprises the building of facilities which, when  completed, will be for the handling of 20,000 TEUs of container.

The Jos ICD is the largest among the seven freight stations approved by the Federal Government.

It is recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, on January 4, 2018 commissioned the Kaduna Dry Port (KDP) making it the first dry port that commenced operations in all the approved inland ports across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Governor Emmanuel Seeks Airforce Presence, As Combat Games Ends In Uyo pictures by Blue3k2(op): 1:46am On Apr 12, 2018
I agree Nigeria should set up an air force base in Akwa Ibom. It would be beneficial for Airforce Secondary School. Then the research and development opportunities are there. You built second runway because they promised? Other that that the competions sound interesting especially boxing and taekwando.

The second runway project was announced years prior to before advocating a base. Annother thing the state be worried about is getting international flight out of Akwa Ibom. Even when Akwa United traveled out they first had to connect through Lagos then go international.

Ps: Everyone was whining about army college in Borno. Do you guys really care about millitary assets placements. When pandef made demands the asked for maritime university as opposed to naval college.

HealthNigerian Govt Warns Against Use Of Medication Containing Codeine by Blue3k2(op): 8:18pm On Apr 11, 2018
The Consumer Protection Council on Tuesday warned against the consumption of medication containing an opiate, codeine, without medical prescription.

A statement by Babatunde Irukera, Director General of the CPC, said codeine is an opiate, and one of many in the opioids family classified as a narcotic substance, although not an illegal drug.

Codeine is largely used as a pain reliever and cough suppressant. As such, it is an active ingredient in some expectorants or cough syrups.

The council said in exercise of the regulatory authority of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), expectorants/cough syrups containing codeine may not be dispensed as non-prescriptive Over the Counter (OTC) medication.

It added that it is illegal and a violation of law to attempt to purchase as well as dispense any such medication, except exclusively in accordance with prescription by a qualified and legitimate medical practitioner.

“Any possession, delivery or provision of these medications in the absence of a prescription, or legal acquisition but dispensing to a person other than whom it is specifically prescribed for, is a violation of law, constitutes drug abuse, and presents significant medical risks including possible injury, risky behaviour, addiction, and in extreme cases (especially pediatrics), fatality,” the CPC said.

“In particular, Codeine is implicated in serious adverse effects when taken with, or contemporaneously with alcohol or carbonated drinks. These methods of mixtures negatively interact and have become a serious and dangerous pattern which pose significant risks of debilitating side effects including respiratory difficulties, nervous system deficiencies and mental impairment.

“Emerging professional medical and regulatory preference is to prohibit prescription of cough medication containing codeine to minors because of its properties and propensity to promote addiction and other exposure to illegal drug use.”

The CPC advised that cough medication with codeine should be prescribed, dispensed and administered in an abundance of caution and only in strict compliance with professional medical direction, and in any case not prescribed for, dispensed to, or administered to minors.

“The Council also reminds consumers that violation of law with respect to dispensing, possessing and consuming illegal drugs, or legal drugs illegally is criminal and may subject offenders to apprehension, detention and prosecution, including by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and upon conviction, a sentence to a term of imprisonment,” the statement said.

PoliticsGov. Wike Blames APC, Buhari, For Nigeria's Security Problems by Blue3k2(op): 6:19pm On Apr 11, 2018
The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the degeneration of the security situation across Nigeria was because the All Progressives Congress-led Federal government has been playing politics with security issues.

Wike, who spoke during a courtesy visit to his office by the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday claimed that when Rivers had issues with kidnapping, instead of tackling the issue, the federal government and its agents plotted how to declare a state of emergency in the state

“The Federal Government politicized the issue of security in Rivers State at a time when its intervention was required. That is why the whole country has been engulfed by insecurity.

“Every day, you hear people being killed like chickens. In Taraba, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Zamfara, Kwara, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Yobe and Borno states, the story is the same. The case of Offa (Kwara State) where 50 persons were killed recently is disheartening.

“After 50 persons were murdered in cold blood, the very next day, the authorities claimed that seven persons had been arrested.  If the security agencies have the capacity to arrest almost immediately, why not stop the killings?”

The Governor lamented that while Nigeria is considered ‘Big Brother Africa’ the country has been unable to uphold the rule of law, conduct credible elections and institute basic governance process.

He, however, called on professional to show interest in the political development of Nigeria so as to ensure that APC federal government returns to the right track.

A presidential aspirant in the upcoming 2019 general election, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, yesterday said he has more to offer Nigeria than President Muhammadu Buhari

The statement added: "My government will establish a productive innovation-led economy that reduces dependence on oil revenues, establish a public-private venture capital fund with a minimum capital of N500 billion (with private sector co-investment to fund could attain a size of N1 trillion) to create jobs by investing in new businesses by unemployed youth, reform the Nigerian Police Force by recruiting, training and equipping a minimum of 1.5 million persons with improved remuneration to create safe and secure communities, empower women with a 50:50 gender parity policy in political appointments, and initiate a constitutional restructuring of Nigeria to restore true federalism for stability and prosperity."
