The thing with APC zombies is...they are looking for anything to put PO in the same bracket as Tinubu. They know the man they support is curruptjon personified, so anything to even the score board will be latched onto.

Imagine littering here with "I have only one watch" as the evidence of curruption.
Hmmmm....Me I just dey observe ni.

Though I understand in this age of social media sha, agenda begets agenda. I've seen people claim a federal ministry cannot own computer for typing and printing of letters in 1996 because they doubt the authenticity of the letter Peter Obi posted on his personal twitter account.

Even when people who owned personal computers back then have come out to confirm that indeed computers were already being used as word processors in Nigeria as at that time, they still argue their reality with them. The fact that PM news which was published by Bayo Onanuga ran advert on its frontpage for a computer training center in Lagos as at 1997 did not convince them still.

Like some of those talking points are just too petty

At this point, I think the game is just to throw anything at him and watch out for the one that sticks.

“But for us in the EFCC, virtual asset fraud and investment scams are not hard nuts to crack.

they spent over a billion rehabilitating the refinery. what price can they sell at?
Any price that will guarantee them not wasting billions of dollars any further on rehabilitation that seem not to work.

You know why I'm even angry? I know for a fact that when such major TAM are done, the management usually pays TAM bonus to all staff and even senior management members. Only God knows how much they would have shared amongst themselves after each and every unsuccessful TAM

NNPC as a company has a serious problem

they run like a listless govt organization to the max

in my experience with them - the only time anything moves is when a director says i want this done. outside of that, things can be on hold for months.

we had a project were we were all pressured to to kick off meeting after xmas because they wanted it on the books that this project started in 2024. after that project experienced minor hiccup that could have been solved by a visit from a middle manager - and it was on hold for 6 months because no one gave a damn to psuh.

as for that refinery some of my old colleagues were at the ceremony and they were joking about how our heads would have been cut off for the s**t that went down

i really hope Ojulari will be able to change the company culture - because this goes beyond kyari.

we can already see daily trust and co putting out the hit pieces because it is all about preserving the status quo within NNPC where thee is opacity and all that is carrying the company is crude oil revenue and not competence or innovation
Any president that is serious will sell the refineries as scrap and heaven will not fall. Let them sell the refineries as scrap and make NNPC focus on regulating the oil and gas industry.

Imagine a whopping $18 billion has been expended on the so called revamping till date and we have nothing to show for it. In what world is it acceptable that such amount goes down the drain and nobody is taking the fall for it?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:39am On Jul 11, 2025
The President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has doubted the possibility of the state-owned Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries functioning again.

Dangote also stated that the refineries, which are under the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, had gulped up to $18bn, yet have refused to work
.

The billionaire businessman spoke on Thursday while hosting members of the Global CEO Africa from the Lagos Business School, after a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Lagos.

According to Dangote, the 650,000-capacity Dangote refinery, which he built after the government of late President Umar Yar’adua aborted his acquisition of the government refineries now has over 50 per cent of its output dedicated to Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), saying that even government refineries committed just 22 per cent of their production to petrol.

Dangote recalled how he and his team had to return the refineries to Yar’adua, a few months after former President Olusegun Obasanjo left office in 2007.

According to him, the former managers of the refinery had told Yar’Adua that Obasanjo sold the facilities below their costs as a parting gift to him.

“The refineries that we bought before, which were owned by Nigeria, were doing about 22 per cent of PMS. We bought the refineries in January 2007. Then we had to return them to the government because there was a change of government.

“And the managing director at that time convinced Yar’adua that the refineries would work. They said they just gave them to us as a parting gift or so. And as of today, they have spent about $18bn on those refineries, and they are still not working. And I don’t think, and I doubt very much if they will work,” he said
.

Dangote emphasised that the turnaround maintenance of the refineries was like trying to modernise a car built 40 years ago, when technology has advanced.

“The turnaround maintenance) is like you trying to modernise a car that was built 40 years ago, when technology and everything have changed. Even if you change the engine, the body will not be able to take the shock of that new technology engine,” he stated.

Dangote’s comment buttressed Obasanjo’s comments last year about the refineries, two of which were shut down again after they were declared operational by the former NNPC Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, in Q4 2024.

Obasanjo had stated that the NNPC was aware that it could not operate the refineries, saying international oil companies like Shell once refused to run the facilities when he requested them to do so.

According to Obasanjo, some Nigerians, including Aliko Dangote, once paid $750m to take over the refineries; however, his successor, Yar’adua, aborted the deal.

“I ran to him (Yar’Adua), I said, ‘You know this is not right’. He said, ‘Well, NNPC said they can do it.’ I said, ‘NNPC cannot do it,’ I told my successor that ‘the refineries, from what I heard and know, will not work and when you want to sell them, you will not get anybody to buy them at $200m as scrap’. And that is the situation we are in
.

“So, why do we do this kind of thing to ourselves? NNPC knew that they could not do it, but they knew they could eat and carry on with the corruption that was going on in NNPC. When people were there to do it, they put pressure. In a civilised society, those people should be in jail,” Obasanjo had stated.

[Again, in January, Obasanjo said, “I was told not too long ago that since that time, more than $2bn have been squandered on the refineries and they still will not work.

“If a company like Shell tells me what they told me, I will believe them. If anybody tells you now that it (the refinery) is working, why are they now with Aliko (Dangote)? And Aliko will make his refinery work; not only make it work, he will make it deliver.”

Obasanjo concluded with a Yoruba proverb, comparing inflated claims about the refineries’ performance to a farmer who planted 100 heaps of yam but falsely claimed to have planted 200.

“They say that after he has harvested 100 heaps of yams, he will also have 100 heaps of lies. You know what that means,” he said.

Calls for the privatisation of the government-owned refineries, under the management of NNPC, intensified following the recent shutdown of the 60,000 barrels-per-day old Port Harcourt refinery, six months after it was declared operational.
https://www.nairaland.com/8471849/nnpc-refineries-may-never-work

When Obasanjo said the same thing, Tinubu supporters claimed Obasanjo was just being a bitter old man who didn't want Tinubu's APC government to succeed where he failed.

In a sane country, Mele Kyari and the board members that worked with him should not be walking freely ; they should be in a maximum security correctional facility.

Although Sanwoolu commissioned some roads recently but to be honest he has been below par in delivering on road projects in the past 6 years.

The govt can make it a policy or the people who feel insulted can take action. Many Western govt are starting to take sweeping actions against countries or people from a region if they feel they are not respecting their cultures
Trump banned travelers into US from all Islamic countries in his first tenure, The current govt is revoking visas and Green cards of people who are foreigners and insulting the country

Why do you think they are asking for all Social Media handles before applying for a visa. No govt have to accept you if they feel you are disrespectful of them

Now to the individuals, There are Britons and Americans and Europeans who are pissed at the behavior of those they see as antagonistic foreigners. There was a riot in UK last year where hotels housing some Arab immigrants were attacked. A Mexican who in the last few weeks when the riots was going on chose to fly a Big Mexican flag on his car and he was flashed a gun by someone who feels he is disrespecting his own America

When you are an immigrant its basic common sense to be respectful of your host and their traditions. I wont go to Saudi or any Moslem country and decide my ancestors always have to eat pork and I must rear pork even if their cultures are against it
In all of this u have said, u have not mentioned instances where people have been denied their constitutional rights because they "denigrate" their host's culture.

I guess u really can't bring up a justification for the shameful conduct we witnessed during the last election.

Even when people are to be deported in western countries like America, people still contest the decision in law courts. But here we make it seem like a group of people should be denied their franchise because their kinsmen posts something gbey probably don't agree with online.

His assertions, especially as it relates to reciprocity, are correct. It was fool’ish for Nigerian Immigration policy makers to cut the prior 5-yr multiple entry visa policy to a single-entry visa policy of 3 months validity.

What were they expecting other countries to do? To ignore our policy somersault and blindly continue being relatively generous with multiple entry visas for Nigerians? Nah. Diplomacy doesn’t work that way.
Do u think Tinubu's failure to appoint ambassadors till date may be a factor responsible for this foreign policy somersault?

Arnold Schwazenegger one of the greatest immigrant story said recently when you come to America, you’re a guest, and you have to behave like a guest. Like when I go to someone’s house and I’m a guest, then I will do everything I can to keep things clean, and to make my bed and to do everything that is the right thing to do
There are several Nigerians online who talk down on the American way of life. I don't think the US has prevented Nigerians from contesting elections because of that. There are videos of Nigerians who talk down on the British's culture of taking their elderly ones to care home instead of taking care of the kids taking care of them at home like we Africans do. I don't think Nigerians in general have been victimized because of that over there.

Ethnic Arabs and Africans have been joining protests in the west for years and I don't think those western countries have made it a policy to exclude people from such countries from contesting and voting in an election.

What happened during 2023 elections is shameful and should not be happening in this age and time. There's actually no justification for it. Election is supposed to be a test of popularity, let the candidate who manages to amass the most votes win. People should not be prevented from exercising their franchise because of their skin color, where they originally hail from or who u perceive they will vote for.

On the same day, the UAE restricted Nigerians who are between 18-45 to flying with a family member/friend in order to gain a tourist visa. And also requires Nigerians who are 45 or older to provide bank statements for the preceding 6 months showing a minimum balance of $10,000, to qualify for a tourist visa..

Now, Canada has also mandated Nigerians, interested in their Express-Entry visa, to show a minimum proof of funds of N17 million..

It’s like all these countries jointly held a meeting on our matter 😂😂
I saw a guy making an argument that Nigeria has terrible diplomats, hence why we are getting all these bashing from different countries. He's arguing that some of our immigration guidelines/protocols do not favor foreigners so they are only adjusting their immigration rules to match ours.

He said we don't give foreigners long term visas so most of those countries are only reciprocating by tightening the noose around our necks abroad too.

I don't know how true his assertions are tho

.
Which record pass make I transfer money to a supermarket's account number and show the cashier the receipt ? Or me sending money to mechanic and sending receipt to his whatsapp?

I don't have time to be typing "Payment for groceries", "Payment for car servicing ", etc in payment description. Make the receiver deny receiving funds first , make e come see film.

I keep mental note of all my spendings, I don't need payment description to remind me what I paid for.

when i am paying for a service through proper channels - i am paying vat on it

if you buy data, vat is included. buy something at the mall, vat is included.

it is really simple. if you have over 5m inflow, all they need to do is look at your bank statement. any transactions that are payments for services will likely be labelled as such

say i buy a car from you and i choose to write gift in the payment instead of payment for car - if we have a falling out tomorrow there is no evidence of payment

one time i paid my kids school for a service that i eventually did not use. i asked them to refund and they were saying they could not find evidence of the payment. so i went into my emails and located it. i was able to find it because i had named it as payment for abcd
I don't label most payments I make. I do transfer and send the evidence of transfer to the receiver.

I really don't think Nigeria has the database and framework to track VAT on goods and services provided by SMEs

the truth of the matter is that these things are easy to tell

especially as when doing a transfer you will label the transaction as payment for a service.

will you pay for a phone by transfer without labelling the transaction?

years ago gtb actually tagged my account as a tier 3 business account because i was being paid for PP through it

we engaged a seller to buy pumps. the guy said you can pay me direct no vat - or pay through my business account with vat. we paid him direct - but we also labelled the transaction. because you also need that for your internal paper trail

the FG is closing the loophole
I'm saying how do u track vat through individual accounts especially for small business owners who are probably not registered with CAC?

If they are saying they will go hard on small business owners, will they do the same for accounts of Senators, Governors and political office holders who sell contracts to their cronies for percentages ?

I think it is more about countering VAT dodging.

any service or product you pay for is supposed to include vat

so the dodge is pay to my personal account instead of my company account - that way you can avoid adding vat to the transaction

i believe what they are saying is inflows over 5m per month will have to be explained - because the truth of the matter is they are likely payment for services

most banks already now this by looking at payment trends
So how will they verify if I say the money is not for any goods & services?

Also what if I ask the senders to fragment it in my various bank accounts?

Then what about data protection? What's the assurance all thse data won't get into the wrong hands?
