One Nigeria is a farce which southern politicians only key into for them to have a taste of the national cake

And that is the problem, not the purpose of Unity schools

The goal is not to carry any academically poor person because of Unity.

The schools are actually decent and competitive to study, so your opinion of admitting anybody is flawed.

There is Gusau Comprehensive High School, if 4 is your standard. There are still people in Zamfara that can make 150.
This is a fact Raimdeuter will never agree to because of the faulty argument he started with

The southern and northern parts of this country have never been compatible. Not culturally, not ideologically, not even fundamentally.
What’s baffling is the deafening silence from southern politicians. With all the chaos, all the imbalance, they’re still clinging to a fantasy of unity that’s clearly past its expiration date.
This isn’t diplomacy, it’s betrayal. The country’s barely holding together with duct tape and denial, yet they won’t lift a finger to push for separation.
History will not be kind to their cowardice.
That’s why I was telling u that day that Nigeria has never been one at any point in time

This is pedantic because the marking scheme of their time is different from now. In my time we had students who scored 570 etc. So should we compare to now when the marking scheme has been changed?
You definitely know that’s what I meant . I’m not that dull to make such suggestion .

U know 2 and 4 is failure where u have 133 for other states in present day .

Definitely they didn’t admit students who failed woefully like people who scored 2 and 4 in present day .

I guess that is where the Nigerian factor and corruption came into it

For my set, after The National common entrance, they never announced the interview ate till today. When we don already start JS1, Some people with Influential parents just went to Federal ministry and got their letters to Ikot-Ekpenne, Katsina, Jos or Okigwe
I passed the national common entrance . I went for the interview at FGC Ijanikin and I passed .

When list came out my name no Dey the list even tho I met the cut off . It was then we were told people were actually paying to buy the admission slot.

A lot of great Nigerians who finished from Unit schools will also tell you they had classmates who were not up to their own academic standards who didnt score s much as them in the common entrance but having these people in their class enriched their Unity school experiences

These Unity schools even have separate cutoff for females an Male from same state.because they want a balance. Ogun cutoff for Male might be 120 while female cutoff will be 110.

Same reason to encourage diversity in the school as much as possible. Otherwise why should Damola a boy from Ogun who scored 115 b denied admission and his twin sister Damilola who scored the same 115 be admitted?
Did they admit people who scored 2 and 4 in their time ?

Just answer this. Enough of all those merry-go-round Amala turning .

Is 2, 4 and other ridiculous cut-off marks u see on that list acceptable to u for one to be offered admission into Kings College , FGC Ijanikin and Queens college ?

This is where I was going next. Nigeria has expended Billions, if not Trillions since the establishment of the Universal Basic Education Commission. If despite the investment we are still expecting a score of 2, then maybe we need a detailed fishbone analysis on what is going on. We can't use Unity to excuse mediocrity that continues to cost the Nation's growth, not especially if we expect students from that school to continue with education.
Nigeria is a country where we do not like to investigate the root cause of a problem with the aim of addressing that problem ; instead we would bend the rules and carry on like nothing happened .

Ideally the cut-off should be set to something reasonable for those states and if the students don’t meet it , the respective states’ ministry of education should go back to the drawing board to address why most of their students couldn’t meet the year’s cut off . If that is done , solutions will be proffered and things may likely improve in the coming years .

Instead of doing that , they would rather lobby for the cut off marks to be lowered to accommodate students who failed and then the quality of education keeps dropping .

The same students will be pushed out of secondary school and they will still bring the “unity school “ formula out for admission into federal universities .

The same thing happens in the recruitment into civil/public service . And it goes on and on and on.

Then somebody somewhere is talking about unity/one Nigeria . One Nigeria my foot 🦶

This looks too basic to be arguing about. All you need do is to look at the intent. Look up for why was unity schools established in the first place and raumdeuter answered correctly.
So when unity schools were being established, they had the intention of uniting the country by admitting students who failed woefully ahead of those who passed .

Una just like to twist things to suit una agenda . A lot of great Nigerians from different parts of the country have graduated from those unity schools since inception . But now we are seeing them admitting people who didn’t even pass the entrance exams because there’s no world 2 or 4 stands for pass mark at all

Why do you think FIFA is still allowing Africa Asia and Oceania into FIFA competitions?

Going by your logic they should suspend those teams until their standard catches up

FG already has a school for academic excellence ONLY but we are going to poke nose in one that is First for Unity claiming some people in the country should not be qualified for this UNITY
FIFA World Cup competition slots is based on ranking of the respective confederations . Does Europe and Africa have the same slot ?

Does Oceania and South America have the same representation ?

Why are u even comparing football competition to something as important as education ?

So in ur church mind u think allowing someone who scored 4 to be admitted ahead of someone who scored 120 because of state of origin difference will foster unity ?

I mean, how did we get here? I bet you that score standard is well over 10 years without any improvement in academic expectations. I mean, I can entertain an argument about unique dynamics in the north but 2/4?

Even Gaza that has been bombed for over 3 decades with no stability can't set up such disgraceful score standard.
I taught in a unity school during my NYSC and I was shocked seeing most SS3 students who couldn’t write speak and write in English .

Now I understand why the whole issue started from . Those cut off marks are just shameful to say the least

Those who checked the data of the historical results decided to peg the cutoff at 4 for Zamfara and used a different score for Kogi
Those people should be raising alarm to declare state of emergency in the universal basic education board of those states instead of lowering the bar to push students who failed into schools where they will most likely fail too .

What’s the essence of pushing someone who scored 4 to a secondary school when u know the foundation is faulty ? What kind of building do u want to erect on a faulty foundation .

I honestly hope u are just using this line of argument to warm ur Amala-turning skills and not that u mean this thing wey u Dey talk for mouth .

Schools are established for the primary purpose of "EDUCATION"/ "SCHOOL". Irrespective if they are Unity schools or not, schools aim to impact educate and impact academic knowledge. There are several avenues and opportunities to promote National Unity without this shameful standard established for our secondary schools in the North.

Education is not entertainment like Football, WWE or any other sport, it is a critical factor for National Development. Education is an imperative factor used to measure and project the growth and development of the Nation. No one is debating matching scores across the country because of unique dynamics across the country.

However, a standard of 2 is quite shameful and speaks more of the rot in the system. Maybe we need to ask what is going on with primary schools there. How can we improve some of the controllable factors that can help in improving test outcomes and standards in the North.
Brilliant submission !

Why do they need to push students who literally failed to be admitted along with those who passed excellently well instead of addressing the primary education in those states ?

What happened to the universal basic education board of those states ? Why are they producing primary school leavers who have to be pushed to secondary school with a woeful score of 2 , 4 , etc ?

Again, you are excusing the poorest of the poor standards in education for Nigerians. If there are inherent controllable factors then lets fix them. But setting up a standard of 2, irrespective of gender or type of school is absolute failure.

To a degree, this is essentially similar "Leave No Kid Behind" education policy here in the States (which I have serious problem with) and going by your historical conservative position, I am 10000% sure that you do not support it.

I know the law exists. It is not new

I'm just answering your questions on why someone will move around with such cash

Yes, they do. People who work in construction sites in very interior regions almost have to deal on cash.

They don't even source it from Banks. Petrol stations, POS, etc, and they'll gather that much to pay who they have to pay.
If it’s a construction company their limit is N10m . And they can always go to bank to withdraw whatever amount they want to pay the casual workers .

What the law is saying is about single transaction na I.e an individual needing to make a single transaction that involves N5m. Not an individual fragmenting N5m to pay tens or hundreds of causal workers

Well , the law says they shouldn’t . And it’s not a new development sef , it’s been around for a long while . You may not know if u don’t have anything to do with AML/Terrorism financing compliance .

Maybe people don’t know because they don’t enforce the individual aspect of the law , but they’ve been enforcing the corporate aspect

iamoyindamola:
Now you are twisting it
Shey nah cash or transfer btw who get the time to they carry cash around and how will efcc know you have such cash na
Let me explain to u what the law is .

No individual is expected to carry cash around that is in excess of N5m . Let’s say for example u want to buy a car of N6m , u are expected to transfer N6m to the seller and not carry N6m cash to the seller . If u pay the N6m with physical cash , u can be arrested for money laundering .

For corporate organizations , the cap is N10m .

No be today the law don Dey now . I thought everyone knows about this .

And if u do bulk payment via transfer in excess of N10m as a corporate body , the organization that received the money sef is duty bound to file such payment under Anti Money Laundering compliance

I think it's fake news, or an outdated law that hasn't been updated to reflect current economic realities.
I think people are misreading and misinterpreting the money laundering act 2022.

The law is saying people should not accept physical cash in excess of 5million and not that u must not transfer cash in excess of 5 million .
They are two different things .

Right from time it has always been a crime for an individual to pay or receive physical cash in excess of N5m and N10m for corporate entities .

So yes u are right , it is fake news

If you never sin before, cast the first stone grin
Imagine those kids at this age and they are already experiencing Nigeria in 8k under their parents guidance
No matter how anybody tries to spin it; the fact is JAMB had a whole year to prepare for an exam that happens once a year and they flunked it .

All those nonsense sentimental talk about “He who has not sinned should cast the first stone “ is why public institutions in Nigeria will never be efficient .

Nigerians just like making excuses and trying to find soft landing for their fave which won’t lead us anywhere . The JAMB issue is a case of the institution being aware of a glitch long before exams were concluded . They fixed the issue but chose to throw the students affected by the issue before it was addressed under the bus . Some of those kids had been ostracized at home because their guardians believe they failed JAMB . One even committed suicide because she couldn’t face her parents and tell them she failed JAMB .

All these while JAMB was aware there was a glitch but didn’t own up to it until there was an outcry . It’s just like committing a mistake at ur workplace like not remitting a government regulator’s fee on time and then keeping silent until the government agency comes calling and fines ur company hundreds of millions .

Now , will ur MD/board of directors rub ur head and tell HR : “He who has not sinned should be first to cast the stone “ or they will sack ur assss and most likely hold on to some of ur benefits ? Will they say because u have been doing ur job diligently all these while , they will keep u while knowing u have caused that much financial liability with ur “‘mistake “ ?

These people don’t really like accountability sha .
