One of my friend dad’s nickname is “àgbà ṣòro da " (Growing old comes with its own complications).

Living through my late dad's experience, old age just comes at you suddenly! One minute you are having the time of your life with your grandkids at your table making you laugh heartily with their shenanigans and the next day you are down with an irreversible medical condition 🤦‍♂️.

That’s why I find it amusing that a man above 70 years of age will be scheming to rule this complex country called Nigeria when there are enough personal headaches to deal with at that age .

Where I work and in other companies within the industry, vacancies for experienced hire are usually filled by in-house contract staff.

Many times I wonder why they advertise and continue to waste people's time. Perhaps, there's a law that says they must.

For a company that uses contract staff for operational roles , it is not out of place to absorb their contract staff .

What we are talking about here is a real job opening being announced and then assume the company would pick a specific candidate they anointed instead of the best candidate based on merit . Maybe some companies do it , but most top companies with standardized processes would not .

Most companies that are well run have checks and balances in place to ensure the best candidates are employed and not the nonsense man-know-man.

By the time u have 2 to 3 stages of interview with different people in the reporting line and maybe a top management person/MD, water would find its level .

Then get into test taking mode. The part I agree with you is that most aptitude tests are not academic tests, they are not testing your indepth knowledge of Physics chemistry etc
They are usually IQ test, basic Maths that you can pass with JS3 knowledge, Quantitative aptitude and Verbal aptitude, Current affairs and General knowledge
In my opinion Any Sharp SS3 student will pass an aptitude test. I

To get a First class, in many cases you need to be very studious and focused on a specific narrow topic. I will say First class test your depth of knowledge while Aptitude tests test your breadth of knowledge (How broad you are). If you are not on it yet, Any first class after school should start practicing with GRE, SAT GMAT sample questions

Some first class effico don't know who the current Speaker of Nigeria is, The problem with this is that current affairs is not something you can read and plan for, Its a test of your inquisitiveness in current affairs from childhood

Some people also have this mindset that you cannot get a job if you don't know people who will hand you to the recruiting Manager and just employ you. This is not True for multinationals

The bold is one thing I dislike most and always try to diabuse the mind of young people so as not to defeat themselves even before the challenge starts.


The problem some young graduates face is that they don't have anybody to mentor/guide them ; especially the ones who don't have an elder bro or sis who has taken the career path before them.

I was discussing this with a friend recently; he was lamenting how not having any of his older bro following the career path made it extremely difficult for him.

Back in the day na to get Tuesday guardian and copy all the ads and then send your cv. A person with a first already has his foot in any door. Check every advert. The problem is that if you are not also among hustlers you may not know what to do.

If you grow up in a civil service family in a civil service state all you know is waiting - which is not how it works.

Nowadays most Companies post their job openings on their LinkedIn pages, the HR staff of companies share openings on their personal linkedin pages and vacancies/career blogs post those openings on their websites.


In the last 3 months I've seen several banks, Dangote, BUA, big 4's, capital market players, etc posting their graduate trainee openings online.

A diligent graduate should be looking out for all these openings...... If not, they will keep saying there are no jobs anywhere.

This tailor guy is actually a tech savvy guy that is active on Twitter 24/7; he even uses Twitter to promote his business and that should tell u he's smart and he can't play the lack of opportunity card bro.

This year alone I've seen not less than 10 graduate trainee adverts from top companies. I believe he should have seen same except he doesn't know where to look.

In most of these states outside Lagos, your grade doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things if you don't have connections. Hunger go wipe you and that your first class if you no get connections. You probably think all other states are like Lagos in the jobs opportunities regard. None of them choose to be jobless, there are simply no good opportunities in their states that they can get without connection.

I can reason with the school of thought that he resides outside Lagos.

But nothing good comes easy. I have met people who had to travel down to Lagos from their home state to interview for jobs In Lagos without knowing anybody and they got the job. They took the risk and got the reward.

If u carry the kind of grade, u no supposes dey limit urself and hope like every other person that things will fall in place. U must be willing to go the extra mile to stand out.

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of young graduates just waste time on social media gossip blogs, TikToks, etc when they should have all ears and eyes open for job opportunities on LinkedIn and other job focused platforms.

As the misery deepened, the Nigerian vocabulary expanded to accommodate new gradations of suffering. I recently watched a documentary on Prime Video which was based on the militants' agitation in the Niger Delta during the Yar Adua/Jonathan administration which led to the amnesty program.


In the video the oyinbo who went into the creeks to film the plight of the Niger Deltans featured Ateke Tom's camp primarily and showed how the people suffered while the oil drilled beneath their soil fetches the nation sweet dollars.


Ateke Tom was looking like the real deal freedom fighter who is hell-bent on making sure his people get the better life they deserve till his last breath. He looked like he will give his life so FG could make Niger Delta a paradise on earth before they can continue exploration unhindered in the Niger Delta.

I carry my phone enter Google, showed my wife the golden palace Ateke Tom now lives in after FG "fortune" smiled on him while most average Niger Deltans continue to deal with environmental degradation and poisoning of rivers and farmlands due to hydrocarbons. She was shocked and wondered if it was the same guy we watched in the documentary that is now living large and has abandoned the "fight for his people".

Most activists/freedom fighters for Naija na just hustlers wey dey chase their own slice of the national cake.

That is why the guy calls them " The real estate Company that sells receipts, instead of land to people ".

To answer Ur question ; I think it is the company that needs to prove they have allocated lands to all the people they collected money from. But u know how naija be now ; the company will rather spend money on having the guy locked up instead of brining evidence that suggests the guy is wrong.

Most companies in the Niger Delta which is another rough terrain always have a Community Relations Manager whose job is to always oil the relationship between the company and the host communities.

So, it is possible this Mushin community most likely adopts same model for them to have been able to operate successfully in that area for years now

I told them situation like this if I use phone they may think I am an informant or spy, but how companies they survive such dangerous places because there's one engineering company along the rail trail that have foreigners working there.

Such companies will be paying protection money to whoever is the leader of the gang/cartel controlling the area where their company is located. So anytime they are having their fights they will never touch the assets of the company.

The company would also provide armed escort for the expatrates so anytime go in and out of the premises/area they are always protected and won't be available for harassment.

You were lucky o; there are places in this Lagos u don't want to be lost and Mushin is certainly one of them.

Just look at those guys in the video with their bloodshot eyes. If day dark small they won't hesitate to dispossess one of his or her belongings. If u try to struggle with them, it won't even cost them a thing to stab u with a dagger.

There's a particular street in Mushin; Akala street that is a notorious for druggs haven. If police dey pursue a suspect, once he runs into that street police will just turn back. It's so bad like that out there.

I actually share most of those agbado guys' sentiments. Bayo Onanuga is not the model presidential spokesperson, he's best fit for a party's spokesperson. He can attack, fight member of opposition party dirty online and on the media, but he's not a top quality material for a presidential spokesperson.

There's some level of decorum that's expected of a presidential spokesperson, there's some level of cool headed expected to address issues and put forward the reaction of the president to critical issues ; he lacks all of that and more.

He just wants to sound like a "banger boy" (or man) and that doesn't make a good presidential spokesperson. He doesn't write like one who has any idea of what public relations is at all. He's always confrontational in his approach to issues ; sometimes I think he forgets he speaks for the president of a country that has over 200 million people who may or may nkt always agree with the president. He just writes like it's "them vs us" which is how a spokesperson of a political party thinks.
