When i heard Americans cut off their parents because they voted for a different party, some say they won't be going to Xmas or Thanksgiving because their families voted for a different party
I think these oyinbo and akata people are quite sensitive; they get overtly emotional. They find it easy to throw away years of friendship and love over the silliest reasons.

I'm guessing it's because they are not used to living the kinda communal lives we are used to in Africa. I think generally Africans and Asians value family more than Europeans & Americans. And I'm thinking it's because of the communal lives we've been used to.

Cutting off a family member because of political difference is as silly as silly can ever be. Where I worked as Presiding officer during that 2015 election, the APC and PDP party agents at the polling unit are identical twins. In the afternoon, one of their wives brought food in a big plate and they both devoured it together grin. Like they belong to different political parties, they are brothers and u can tell they love each other.

When i see such happen it looks strange to me
I have seen Americans who will live in the same city with their parents and they will say they haven't spoken for 20yrs

Some people will be sick in hospital and no family to check on them despite growing up in that city and having families

There use to be a white guy over 60 in an apartment i was living back then and he will be friendly with everyone. He can just arrest you and talk with you for over 1hr, next thing he's inviting you to dinner or pub. I come dey wonder why he doesn't have any immediate family

He now told me that one day he called cops on his neighbor because the neighbors 8yr old daughter was jumping and disturbing him, so I figured if you have that attitude to life you won't have anyone near you.

Well me sef give am space and started avoiding him

Has there been anyone who cut off an immediate family and what led to it
Well, oyinbo people and their culture of calling cops on neighbors over every little thing is always weird to me ; maybe because as Africans those things don't happen here Sha. But I understand Ur point that definitely anybody that has that kind of attitude like u described will definitely have less people warming up to him.

That being said I think oyinbos get too emotional and always avoid talking to their parents over the flimsiest reasons unlike we Africans. For example oyinbo child can become 18 and just ghost his parents because the parents were tough disciplinarian. Our own culture doesn't would not really permit that......

In fact some of we Africans are grateful for our parents being tough on us. Some of these "toughness" I'm talking about includes merciless beating ó. I remember one time like that when a Christian wake keep was held for an elderly woman who passed away in my area. The mama was a retired headmistress ; when it was time for people to give testimony about her life and times, some of her old students who are married men and women came to the podium to speak about her. One man who is a medical doctor claimed he was a traunt and that it was her counsel after serious beating that kept him straight; he said he is grateful she used the rod to set him straight. Another woman who seem like a successful career woman also said she would've dropped out and gotten pregnant for her then bf if the woman had not made it a duty to police her lifestyle and always singling her out for serious punishment.

These things would've been termed abuse abroad and these people would not even go to her burial but in naija they are giving testimony of how that "abuse" has helped their life.

In naija I think the major reason some people choose not to speak with their families again is marital wahala. Like when u want to marry a particular person, Ur family objects, u decide to go ahead and then shut Ur family out. I don't know if this is resin enough cos I really don't know how those people who take those decisions feel Sha.

I don't know if u know about WofaiFada and her marriage to one of the sons of the Coles of Iru kingdom ( Victoria Island). The groom's father practically objected to his son marrying Wofai based on age difference and did not give his blessing to the marriage. The man even published a disclaimer on the internet that their family has nothing to do with the marriage. Only God knows if such a guy would ever reconcile with his family in the future.

I want to ask something

What will be a good enough reason to cut off a direct family like parent or siblings that you lived and grew together

By cut off I mean never talk to them for life again
I think the only justifiable reason to cut off a parent or sibling is if such individual does something that can jeopardize Ur life/source of livelihood.

For any other reason that hurts u, I believe keeping a distance is enough but not totally cutting them off.

Edit: I see you have edited to rule out trying to kill the person...In that case, I don't think there's really any justifiable reason to cut off a parent or sibling completely. Keeping a distance is more appropriate.

3 different groups have endorsed him now including his own Friends of Seyi Tinubu group . I get the feeling he’s serious about the ticket and the only person that can stop him is his father .

There’s no smoke without fire , If Seyi was not interested all these “testing of water” endorsements left and right will not be happening . I have learnt not to ignore these obvious signs when it comes to politics . Definitely All those philanthropic work Seyi has been doing , Sharing bags of rice , making financial donations here and there is not just because he likes to give money away . He obviously has political ambition in mind

Since this UGM insecurity thing, nothing concern me with any road leading to any state in the East so I can't speak to this particular place.

However, unlike Lagos that uses LAWMA, waste management here is handled by private contractors. And if there's anything private organisations have over government ones, it's efficiency.

I will be surprised if that place you mentioned is as you say it is.
Waste management in Lagos is controlled by LAWMA(Lagos Waste Management Authority) , but the collection and disposal of waste is handled by private contractors under the PSP arrangement( Private Sector Partnership)

It simply means the PSP operators are under the control of LAWMA(the government agency) . So it is a public-private sector partnership thingy.

I don’t think LAWMA is the problem but the people themselves . People will literally dump refuse in places where there is clear sign of “ Do not dump refuse here “ . They pass urine in areas where there is a sign prohibiting public urination .

Recently KAI brigade has been going after people involve in open defecation. Can u imagine places like CMS , Marina , Ebute Ero, etc on the island , u will see people openly defecating early in the morning in this age and time.

Even though Pure water, Takeaway packs and other disposable plastic wastes have found their way into the average Nigerian city in the new millennium, I can still attest that present day PH is still cleaner than present day Lagos even with LAWMA doing serious waste management job in Lagos.

Except that it's not always black and white. Even in this case, the supreme court may come back to say the Federal High court actually had jurisdiction.
This one is clear in black and white.

What the Federal High court did is illegal by presiding over a case he has no jurisdiction over. That is judicial rascality.

You don't need to study law to even know these things. Below is the summary of Federal High court's jurisdiction.

Section 251(1) of the Constitution highlights the powers of the Federal High Court to determine legal matters and the extent of these powers as conferred by the Constitution and the Act of the National Assembly. The section provides that “notwithstanding anything contained in the Constitution and in addition to such other jurisdiction as may be conferred upon it by an Act of the National Assembly, the Federal High Court shall have and exercise jurisdiction to the exclusion of any other court in civil cases and matters-

[b]a. relating to the revenue of the Government of the Federation in which the said Government or any organ thereof or a person suing or being sued on behalf of the said Government is a party.

b. connected with or pertaining to the taxation of companies and other bodies established or carrying on business in Nigeria and all other persons subject to Federal taxation.

c. connected with or pertaining to customs and excise duties and export duties, including any claim by or against the Nigeria Customs Service or any member or officer thereof, arising from the performance of any duty imposed under any regulation relating to customs, exercise duties, and export duties.

d. connected with or pertaining to banking, banks, other financial institutions, including any action between one bank and another, any action against Central Bank of Nigeria arising from banking, foreign exchange, coinage, legal tender, bills of exchange, letters of credit, promissory notes and other fiscal measures. (Provided that this paragraph shall not apply to any dispute between an individual customer and his bank in respect of transaction between the individual customer and the bank).

e. arising from the operation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act or any enactments replacing the Act or regulating the operations of companies incorporated under the Companies and Allied Matters Act.

f. any Federal enactment relating to copyright, patents, designs, trademark, and passing off, industrial designs and merchandise marks, business names, commercial and industrial monopolies, combines and trusts, standards of goods and commodities, and industrial standards.

g. any admiralty jurisdiction, including shipping and navigation on the River Niger or River Benue and their affluent and on such other inland waterways as may be designated by any enactment to be an international waterway, all Federal ports (including the constitution and powers of the ports authority for Federal ports) and carriage by sea.

h. diplomatic, consular, and trade representation

i. citizenship, naturalization and aliens, the deportation of persons who are not citizens of Nigeria, extradition, immigration into and, emigration from Nigeria, passports, and visas.

j. bankruptcy and insolvency.

k. aviation and safety of aircraft.

l. arms, ammunition and, explosives.

m. drugs and poisons.

n. mines and minerals (including oil fields, oil mining, geological surveys, and natural gas).

o. weights and measures.

p. the administration or the management and control of the Federal Government or any of its agencies.

q. subject to the provisions of the Constitution, the operation, and interpretation of the Constitution in so far as it affects the Federal Government or any of its agencies.

r. any action or proceeding for a declaration or injunction affecting the validity of any executive or administrative action or decision by the Federal Government or any of its agencies.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned a Federal High Court judgment that barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from providing the voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) for local government elections, which have already been conducted, News360 Nigeria reports.

Justice Onyekachi Otisi, leading the appellate panel, ruled that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case, emphasizing that Section 28 of the Electoral Act applies only to federal, governorship, and area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, not state-level elections.

The appellate court also criticized the lower court for directing security agencies to refrain from performing their constitutional duties.

Previously, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court had ruled that RSIEC violated local government election laws by failing to issue the mandatory 90-day notice before announcing the election date.

The judgment had prevented INEC from releasing the voters’ register to RSIEC until all legal requirements were met.

The appeal was one of several filed against decisions of the Federal High Court concerning Rivers State’s local government polls.
I mentioned it here that day that the Federal High court has no jurisdiction over Rivers state LGA election and their ruling on the elections could not stand . People were saying otherwise , but see now that the judgement had been overturned for that same jurisdiction issue .

That Peter Lifu man should be ashamed of himself sha. I’m sure his kids too will claim their dad is the best dad in the world 🤦‍♂️

If there’s Seyi Tinubu , Gbaja , Hamzat and Obasa on the ballot for Lagos APC primary in 2027; One thing that is very sure is that Obasa won’t get the ticket whether he shows his hands early or late .

Except Obasa will kill all the Lagos GAC members before 2027 , his governorship ambition is dead on arrival .

The only issue Seyi might have is the fact that he’s a practicing Christian while dem Gbaja, Hamzat and Obasa are Muslims . Although Seyi might as well just hide under his dad’s religion but everybody knows he’s a Christian in real life . So it will be interesting to see whether a Christian(Seyi) will be allowed to take over from another Christian governor (Sanwoolu)

But I think Hamzat and Ghaja have more chances than Obasa if Seyi decides not to be on the ballot .

In fact, I make bold to say that Obasa has a higher chances of ending up with EFCC case by 2027 than clinching the governorship ticket in Lagos .
