Can someone educate me why FRSC dey always emphasize on outdated tyres....Why you go get problem with my tyre wey never chop alignment...Shiioooor.

To the best of my knowledge , there’s no law in Nigeria that says anything about expired tyres. Any FRSC official saying he’s enforcing the law as it partains to expired tyres is a thief that is just trying to exploit u.

What is an offence is driving with worn out tyres . Worn out Tyre is not the same as expired Tyre. When they claim ur Tyre is expired , all they do is add 4 years to the manufacturing date of ur Tyre arbitrarily and claim ur Tyre is expired once the numbers don’t add up.

But a worn out Tyre is obvious to the eye; everyone can identify a worn out Tyre through normal eye test .

Next time FRSC officials say they want to fine u for expired Tyre, ask them to show u the exact le they are enforcing . They won’t be able to show u any law to that effect because such law doesn’t exist.

My old boss had a death on site. They were trying to manage it and the client company was like not our business, sort it out. Then the deceased family lawyer wrote to dpr and it became everyone s problem.

That’s why I said we were lucky the guy’s family came from the village and just needed the cash to move on.

The guy was a motor boy who had little or no prospect of ever making that 5m compensation for years if he was still alive . It sounded unfair but it is what it is.

The company had to cover the expenses of the family to the city when they came to negotiate the compensation sef. They were in an already disadvantaged position before the negotiation even started .

One of our drivers was involved in accident with other trucks recently. One of the trucks motor boy was severely injured and had to do multiple surgeries including spine surgery .

Unfortunately , about two weeks ago the guy passed on after weeks in the hospital . Our insurance people have negotiated with the family and they came up with 5m compensation for the deceased family.

If our driver was not having a drivers license he will be in jail now and even the insurance company will not be willing to pay for all the medical expenses and compensation of 5m for his family .

And yes, we had to pay police to let things go as we already have an agreement with the family.

E get some kind things u eyes go see ehn, u will never want to be on the wrong side of the law in this country .

Let me add to this. The moment you are in an accident , your insurance will be null and void. It happened to a company driver. Guy was in an accident. When we claimed insurance it turned out his licence had lapsed a day or so before. Company had to pay and the guy was sacked.

If you have a death on site and it is reported, you will find out just how many licenses and processes you need to operate.

This is the gospel truth. If u drive without a license , it simply means u were driving when u were not qualified to drive . Insurance will not pay because it is a crime to drive without a license .

If u drive with a drivers license that is below the class required for the type of vehicle u drive , that’s another wahala .

For example, by law if u Must drive a truck/tanker/trailer , then ur driver’s license must be class G. If u have class B that is reserved for private vehicles but u drove a truck , u will be in another wahala with insurers

He’s the overconfident type , he believes one can get away with anything in this naija once money Dey ur pocket .

He usually tells me that Naija police are the best in the world because u can always negotiate u way out of breaking the law once u are dealing with naija police . We Dey get serious argument over this matter o.

I have a friend who has been driving for over 15 years now and doesn’t have a driver’s license . He doesn’t drop more than 5k for police anytime he’s accosted for driving without license . Sometimes he pays lesser sef.

I am a big advocate of settling whatever issues u have with the police on the road and not following them to police station before matter escalate and they start roping you for other offences; but on this particular case I think these boys were fooolish to have parted with N1m over their inability to provide drivers license while driving their mum’s Benz.

I mean if indeed the Benz belongs to one of the boys’ mum as they claimed and they weren’t carrying any contraband after rigorous search by the police , it makes no sense that they didn’t just follow the policemen to the station and wait for the mum to come bail them.

Currently it’s difficult to get original drivers license because of the backlog of requests ; most people whose drivers license expired recently are driving with temporary paper license issued by FRSC. If the police will not accept it on the spot, I will willingly follow them to police station rather than allow them extort me of N1m on the road .

PS:This is not me blaming the victims here , I just don’t see the logic behind the boys paying the N1m on the road instead of giving to the police station except gun was put to their head to do the transfer .
