Unlimited22:I understand, a lot of things have been anglicized as part of the after-effects of colonialism. It was just the way swiz claimed no Igbo person bears Chidinma that puzzled me. If he had said the spelling was wrong but admitted those people were still Igbos nonetheless, I won't have any issues with his point. It's just like me saying "Adebayor" is not Yoruba because of how he spelt his name with letter R after Adebayo(The actual Yoruba name) |
GloriousGbola: ![]() |
swiz123:Grammatically too, when people spell words like "Shola, Shina, Oshogbo", etc, they are wrong. Why? Because in Yoruba language two consonants don't follow each other. There's actually a "Sh" sound in the Yoruba alphabet but it is just "S" with a mark/dot under it. Also Ebute "Metta" is also wrong because grammatically two consonants don't follow each other in Yoruba language like people wrongly spell meta. But I don't think it is a big issue like that sha. A lot of things have been anglicized overtime and I think it is forgivable for a non-native with deep knowledge about some of these things. |
afrodoc2:As in....right from primary school to university level I met people at different times who spell it as Chidinma ![]() Or maybe those people are fake Igbos and Swiz is the original-original |
Ijustwantto:On today's episode of "Things that never happened" |
swiz123:Are you sure of this? I personally know someone named "CHIDINMA" who is my contact on FB. Immediately u made this post, I had to go search her name and it was spelt the exact way I spelt it up there. There are several Igbo people on FB with the name "CHIDINMA", just do a search and see for yourself. Maybe this is just a case of "Adeshina vs Adesina" or "Shola vs Sola" amongst Yoruba name spelling |
GloriousGbola:The only thing I can say is : Dangote knows what he’s doing |
GloriousGbola:I think even the masses don’t want to get un4cked . I mean why would an average northerner get angry and see it as an insult when a southerners says he has plans to lift the north and Nigeria as a whole out of poverty ? 🤷♂️ How do you want to get a problem solved when u don’t even want to acknowledge existence of the problem?
|
iamoyindamola:I don’t live in South Africa and don’t know the criteria of being a citizen according to Southy law. According to the initial report , I believe the girl had always identified as Nigerian-Mozambican and that triggered her detractors to do a digging on her. According to Instablog, she removed Nigeria and Mozambique from her IG status when this issue started . She’s the one fueling the soup she’s in presently . I agree with u that South Africans are xenophobic , but on this particular issue I don’t really know if it is Xenophobia that is driving their actions. A friend was telling me recently of how we Nigerians sef Dey do too much at times in foreign land. He said he has seen situations where some Nigerians would behave unruly to their Irish hosts in Ireland and those ones out of anger will tell them to back to Africa where things are not orderly. You know Nigerians say we get bad mouth well, so the Nigerians who now have Irish passports will tell tell them to 4ck off. The Nigerians will refer to Irish who are scattered all over Europe due to their grandparents fleeing the Irish war; the Nigerians will tell the Irish they will only return to Africa if those grandparents and their long buried bodies are relocated back to Ireland 🤦♂️. The Irish will get pissed that immigrants can have the audacity to talk to them in that manner . |
iamoyindamola:I don’t even think it is about being used and dumped this last election period sef. I believe the mass illiteracy issue has been there a long time ago; it’s just we are now in a Jet age where without minimum western education u will be useless and irrelevant and all u can just do is to be angry about ur parents’ or ur personal decision of not getting educated . As far back as the 50’s and 60’s down south here, parents & guardians have always longed the idea of getting their wards educated . Even a poor farmer in Ogbomosho, Ede, Ijebu, etc wants his child(ren) to have access to western education. They see it as a thing of pride that their child(ren) speak the white man’s language , can sit and rub shoulders with the white man by virtue of being educated , etc. That’s why some of those parents sent their kids to school back then. Our own parents (the kids back then) seeing the extent to which education can take one, they decided to educate their own kids too; even above and beyond their own level of education. Those of them that were unable to (either through an unfortunate incident happening ) ; most of them still regret till date. There are also those students who were motivated by themselves like Afe Babalola, Obafemi Awolowo , etc . They just want to be great and they see education as the pathway to achieve that greatness( which paid off eventually ) In the north on the other hand, the vast majority don’t even send western education like that . Even some of the elites are contented in going to Sudan, Saudi, Iran, etc to study Islamic related courses and come back home to work in the civil service or take over their parents’ businesses . As for the masses, like u rightly said the elites are fine with the idea of keeping them in their current state , sponsoring a handful of them on pilgrimage , arranging mass weddings annually, etc as a form of Zakat. The masses see it as benevolent on their part and would render prayers & supplication for them during Jumat prayers . There’s a general sense of contentment in a northerner about his current state . Some of them believe whatever happens to a man, whatever situation a man finds himself is definitely the “Will of Allah”. Like they believe if it pleases God, he will propel u to that greatness level where some educated people cannot even dream of getting to. Unfortunately those kind of beliefs and level of thinking is now archaic in big 2024. The fact that their leaders cannot disabuse their minds that Islamic education alone will make u equipped for greatness in the 21st century is a major issue . Growing up as a southerner , I had quite a handful of Muslim friends who had both Islamic education and western education side-by-side. Most of them are doing well for themselves now in different parts of the world. |
Theflint1:I don’t know where u sourced this new information from, but the initial news report says the father is a Nigerian and the mother a South African(Zulu) of Mozambican descent. According to the organizers she has a South African ID which means she’s a citizen. I believe there will be people that knew the mum from her younger days, people whom they grew in the same neighborhood , etc. If the father is Igbo as I suspected , then he’s the one who did identity theft and had to make the rest of his family to live by the consequence of that action almost 25 years after |
Ibime:Exactly my thought ! The man most likely used a Yoruba man’s papers over 25 years ago when most government databases were still paper-based and not electronic. The man made peace with the fact that he can’t continue to bear his father’s name so when his daughter came he named her Chidinma as one would expect an Igbo man to do. The mother being a South African didn’t even know the man’s surname is Yoruba awhile their daughter is given an Igbo name. I expect the man to find him way before the matter turn criminal case (if he’s still alive and lives in Southy ). He obviously knows the truth and would Be cussing the day the daughter decided to go for the beauty pageant 😂 |
Ibime:I think it’s the father that has explanation to do. He may have lied about his real name to the Southy mother before knacking her . Adetshina is supposed to be the Yoruba name “Ades(h)ina “. How come he now named his child Chidinma which is an Igbo name ? Maybe na fake papers the father used enter Southy and he just had to keep up with the fake name and profile after he bagged a nice Southy woman. |
daveP:lolz. That’s just the wishful opinion of the author of that tweet. If Arteta wanted to sign a traditional CF like Halaand, he would’ve done that by now and we won’t be having this discussion. Arteta is more concerned about the shape of his team and their playing style. I doubt he’s willing to buy a traditional CF that will spend most of the game isolated upfront. The fact that Arsenal scored 91 league goals to city’s 96 last season without having a traditional CF in the right sense of the word makes it obvious that Arteta is not really bothered about goal scoring . He probably believes signing a traditional CF will involve him tinkering with his formation and will most likely affect the entire team’s performance . |
Roland17:I’ve been telling DaveP even before the transfer window opened . All the traditional CF we have in mind it appears Arteta is not even interested in them. At the end of the day, He will probably sign another multi-function attacker who can play CF and LW/RW. If Arteta signs a traditional CF I will be surprised sha |
Omo , that Trossard goal sweet sha . |
mostob:😂😂😂 |
monerozi5590:Do u know the intricacies of the initial "strategic interest" NNPC had in Dangote's private business ? |
iamoyindamola: ![]() I’m sure Egbon has different accent for different settings |
Ibime:It was obvious to the blind that his outcry in the last two weeks was about securing cash flow and not defaulting on his credit obligations. It’s puzzling and funny that a lot of people actually didn’t get the catch and were on and about mouthing : “Nigeria doesn’t support its own “ |
In other news, there’s fire on the mountain for Dangote o According to Fitch Ratings, Dangote Group plans to divest 12.75% stake in Dangote Petroleum Refinery over liquidity concerns. In a statement on Monday, Fitch said Dangote Group plans to use the proceeds from the stake sold to service a sizable syndicated loan that matures on August 31, 2024.This explains why Very Angry Alhaji was in rampage last two weeks or thereabouts

Roland17:Dangote 😂 That one is a real guyman. Baba don receive APC benevolence now and he will revert to AGIP( Any Government In Power ) till further notice . |
Jodera:I think one major problem we are having is that our fringe players are actually “fringe” in every sense of the word. Like our fringe players mostly don’t play often because Arteta has his preferred team and wouldn’t deviate from them . So, it is understandable that the few times they play , only few teams watch and keep tabs on them. For example most teams have seen Martinelli and Trossard play that left wing and will buy either of them if and when the opportunity arises . Now look at the right wing; I’m sure everybody thinks our right wing is just about Saka and anything/anybody else in his absence . The fact that Saka doesn’t have a deputy on that right hand side means nobody really knows what the deputy is capable of in his absence (which almost never happens ) |
KingTom:I just tire my brother . The person wey wan deal person and the person dem wan deal with are no longer growing young. Shey na like this we go Dey Dey ? 😂 |
Roland17:Nigeria is a funny and sad country . Uche(not real name ) will be siding with Ndume online when he called out Tinubu and APC’s bullshiiit . Uche will be wondering why Musa (not real name ) cannot grow some balls like Ndume and call out the “evil APC “ that has inflicted hunger and poverty on the people . Few days later Ndume apologizes to APC his party and he’s now back in the APC as one of their ranking senators who will cross ocean to have APC rule till the year 2100 at the federal level . Now Ndume don stain Uche’s white. All the the “revelations” Ndume made during the spat with the presidency can no longer be used as reference for things not being well at the seat of power . At the end of the day, this is what happened ; “Ndume whose child works in the central bank of Nigeria apologizes to the president of Nigeria for calling him out in the media for being denied attention to him. “ ….. And they lived happily ever , after . 😴 |
Jodera:He has tried , Saudi should just bring money and sign him abeg. That way we will make money from his sale and he will also get enough money to cater for his future needs as a rich African boy 😁 |
Theflint1:I don’t know how true the bold is for foreign language/accent o, but for our own local language/accent I don’t think this ur theory holds true. I’ve literally watched someone who came to Lagos from deep inside Oyo state with thick Oyo-Yoruba accent lose that accent for Lagos-Yoruba accent . I was not even told ; within 4 years of being in Lagos the person speaks the Lagos Yoruba we all speak . |
Theflint1:When will Atiku deal with Wike exactly ? Atiku is 77 presently and will be 80 in 2027 when he may most likely not win the presidential elections . When gan gan Atiku wan deal with Wike ? Na when they both go to heaven or the other place ? ![]() |
Itsrm:INEC is controlled by State Governors ![]() As if Buhari didn’t have it in power to appoint a Yoruba professor that will head INEC and make sure everything goes against Tinubu at the polls. The 2 major deciding factors of any election outcome in Nigeria are INEC and the Judiciary . If u have both favoring u, then u are as good as elected |
liveLongNprospa: |
liveLongNprospa:I’m just bewildered that u people are excited about Alhaji Mikano the paper tiger . Person wey no fit bind Wike and his goons to the philistines in the PDP; Shey na that one me I go Dey wait to highlight his moves ? 😏 |
