I finished NYSC at 24yrs. I was the first born and realized my parents money should be focused on my younger ones still in Uni

So I entered street to start hustling. I started going to tutorial centers to teach Waec and Jamb lesson. They were paying me N100 per hour, yet transport one way was N30. So I will take bus to and trek back Idimu to Akowonjo.

Meanwhile I had cousins abroad who I could bill but I never did. The only time I asked for money was to help me pay application fee to Yankee school and not even give me the money, I sent him my application login to help pay the school directly

Some guys who were just friends to him were always sending him billing

At 2005 yahoo was already popular, I was one of the first set people in my area to start using internet and the small boys 17 to 22 that time even those who were not well educated were all writing bad English yahoo emails abroad using email extractor in cybercafes but I knew I will get a job or just hustle


There is always a hustle if you are ready.

Telling a 24 year old to go hustle is never harsh at all. Whether the country hard or soft , a 24 year old is a full grown adult that should find his way .

If such person decides to venture into crime, that’s on him. The long arm of the law should be used to deal with him.

There are so many people who didn’t have any uncle to rely on, didn’t have affluent parents ,didn’t venture into crime and ended up turning out good for themselves . I’m one of such people , so I always find it funny when people make “Nigeria is hard “excuse for people like that guy.

I can tell u 100% that that the bold is untrue .

There are a whole lot of things a young man can do that are not crime depending on where such person is located. Even in the poorest of communities people are surviving .

There are so many people who don't have any uncle , cousin or great uncle anywhere to source for funds from while in school or fighting life battles. The fact that he has an uncle who cares enough to be sorting him is a privilege, which obviously he has misused.

Telling a 24-year-old to enter street and not rely on his abroad uncle's money is not severe.

I really don't know what to say about Ibimes matter because the fact of the matter is things are very very hard right now for most people and getting worse. It's easy for us to say Ibimes benefactor should have been wiser but the fact is he may have seen his relative in a truly desperate situation and at the end of his rope with all possible sources of support and assistance tapped out.

At this point you are stuck between pragmatism and humanism. Be pragmatic and survive your issue while watching your relative die or be humanist and cut yourself off.

There may be no easy answers

The issue here is that what people call desperate situation/critical need is relative. Some people will call u for house rent and call it "life and death matter" / "critical need"; while some people will give birth looking for naming ceremony calling it a serious issue which they need ur assistance.

How can a man who had 9 full months to prepare for arrival of his baby call "naming money" a critical need?

Like DeadPresidents said, most people will face their personal financial battle heads-on if they know nobody is available to hand them free money out of compassion.

100%. Someone on this forum once contacted me to lament inability to pay his school fees. I helped him out, only for the guy to contact me around Christmas time to ask me to send him Christmas money to use for celebration.

He is only privy to a small percentage of the billings I receive, most of which I turn down while trying to make decisions on which billings are most pertinent, he can't put himself in my shoes not to increase my burden with others needs which are far from my circumference of consideration.

We are talking about a 24 year old boy who I share great-great-great grandfather with, I only took him under my wing because my grandmother adopted him as a child, so he is closer in relation now. He now goes giving my number to a 38 year old on his side of the family (distant distant relative) because he has pressing need, he no respect me at all.

When you dey bill someone you have to put yourself in their shoes, because there are many in need and very few to meet that need. I received a billing I respected so much from a relative because he contacted me 3 weeks from payday and he said bro, I have this pressing need, I would like you to put me in your budget for next month payday. That is instant recognition that the person you are billing has decisions to make and a limited budget, and that guy is not one that sends bills, hardly ever. It was very respectful and understanding that there is a sacrifice being made with every bill.

U will see a senior manager with a big SUV that he’s paying for through monthly deductions from his salary and be telling urself ignorantly that “ if this alaye can buy this jeep, money don Dey him hand be that o”

U see a principal manager who got mortgage which he uses to purchase a flat at Chevy estate Lekki and u assume he has arrived . U don’t know senior man will pay for that house for the next 20 years through regular deduction of his salary o.

If such person manage to Dey do for u as family , it is a grave sin for u to be sharing that person’s contact to others to bill him too na .

I just watched the Trump video. There is no way he knew about the plan. The guy initially thought it was an insect that had stung him.

He was a few cm from death. Lucky man.

Pardon him as how ? As far as I’m concerned that person is done; he’s done for good. If I was in Ibime’s shoes , I will just start giving him stories and that’s the end.

Two years ago (2022) Dollar was N417 per dollar

Today (2024) Dollar is N1,565 per dollar.

Not that. If govt can support small maybe. For example one reason tractor renting skyrocketed is due to diesel price. Fertilizer also I think many are imported. As well as those agro chemicals. Govt could have helped by subsidizing fertilizers. Tractor rental price. U re business man na u should understand what I mean.

Fertilizers are actually produced here and even exported sef. But some of the raw materials and parts used in the plants are sourced from abroad .

There are also companies who produce agro chemicals here but they also source for raw materials abroad.

It actually dollar vs Naira matter that is affecting those ones .

High Cost of renting tractor, High price of Urea and high price of agro chemicals affects the price of food eventually .

I think what he’s suggesting is that government needs to find a way to make some/all of the 3 items listed above cheaper so that food can be cheaper than it is.

There are handful of robbers who have sacked a whole police station. There are handful of gunmen who have sacked Nigerian Military depot.

Let more people have access to guns and people who are passive criminals will become full blown criminals

Best thing is to move away from certain areas, even in America it happens, once those poor athletes hammer better cntracts they move to safer richer suburbs and only visit their hood once in a while

Industrial farming is capital intensive . Our leaders( governors ) will rather waste money than invest in such .

I have a relative that uses to work with a company that leases Agro-equipment to farmers . Those tractors and other farm equipment are quite expensive from What I heard . It is a capital intensive project that will require serious investment
