The truth is some of the things teachers/school administrators make students go through which they call “discipline” is actually abuse . And there are already established cases which see excessive flogging as assault .

In the late 90’s when I was in primary school ( a private school where most of our teachers were Ghanaians ) , I made a statement similar to what that that guy said .

Our class teacher was eating an apple 🍏 and was telling his friend who is the class teacher of the classroom next door about how he cannot eat an apple without first peeling off the green skin .

That was how I told a friend of mine that our teacher is a “bush man “ for peeling the green skin and spitting it out before eating the apple . That was because as little as I was my old brings home apple and we eat both the red and green one with the skin . Na so one girl wey overheard our conversation say “ I will tell uncle “ and I said she should go ahead . ( I didn’t really fancy begging someone trying to threaten to report me )

She did and anyways and the man called me out to confirm if indeed I said what I was accused of . I admitted and the man had me flogged 6 strokes of the cane while muttering under his breath “ It is your father that is a bushman “ 😂.

I collect the flogging in good faith because I knew I messed up and got punishment commensurate with 4ck up .

Now imagine if the man had gone overboard to treat my 4ck up to the extent that I sustained injuries from the punishment ……shey I no go wan get back at him in the future ?

I believe the principal/proprietor went overboard enough to make the guy want to get his asss 10 years after .

Yea , I won’t deny being biased against the principal/proprietor because I’ve seen what some of those educators can do when they feel a student calling them derogatory words lie mumu should attract the worst of corporal punishment .

The average Nigerian is proud and won’t tolerate someone beneath him calling him derogatory words and not getting battered for it .

The man’s version of the story is clearly trying to de-escalate the situation and make it seem like the punishment the boy got was a typical normal punishment one gets for running foul of school’s rules and regulations . But one can see the man’s ego was bruised by the boy’s choice of words and had him get extraordinary punishment that had him traumatized for years .

Recently I’ve been seeing a trend on TikTok from ex-students calling out some of their former teachers for the kind of inhuman treatment meted out to them . You would be surprised how brutal some of those educators were . Maybe it was due to frustration with the Nigerian society sef , who knows

That’s not what he did . He confirmed the incident did happen , but tried to claim he was disciplined in line with the school’s disciplinary system .

By the time the guy has other ex-students come out to reveal how they were treated like criminals by the proprietor and his team of teachers , the judge will have no choice but to view them as violent individuals abusing students in their care .

The proprietor is saying because the guy’s parents who are lawyers settled with him back then over the incident , then it shouldn’t be an issue now and the guy shouldn’t be suing him. 🤡

As regards this Oluwafi Ojo matter vs Valencia college proprietor , the proprietor’s lawyer has already confirmed the incident happened . He only tried to twist how it happened . That alone sef showed they will either settle out of court pr will lose the case if the guy press ahead with the case .

He also mentioned a fellow student who was there . He probably has the guy willing to stand as his witness . If the proprietor has sacked some of his staff from that time , there’s guy just needs to approach those ones who may have one or two grudges against the man to bear witness against him .

I think this is the way to go . Victims of abuse all in the name of “discipline “ should be encouraged to seek redress against abusers who may pride themselves as “ disciplinarians “ and still boast about it .

This student is suing his school proprietor who battered him and inflicted severe injuries on him 10 years ago in the name of disciplining him .

The student allegedly referred to the propeietor as “Mumu “ , so the man flogged him for 2 hours straight , made him to roll in the mud , had dishwater poured on him ,kicked him and placed his foot on the student’s head .

For proper context the student was on a WhatsApp group where someone asked why he was offering Biology as a subject despite being an Art student . The student responded “Don’t mind that my mumu proprietor , he made all students offer Biology “…. Unfortunately for him that particular chat was shown to the proprietor (most likely by another student ) which later resulted to the incident in 2016.

Fast forward to 10 years after the student is suing baba for violating his fundamental human right to human dignity and that the humiliation affected him psychologically .

I support the student’s move and hope he gets favorable judgement so some of these teachers/school administrators can tone down on some of their corporal punishments which has led to permanent disability of some students in the past
