I saw this new tonight and I am happy for the 45 selected students. 50m naira grant is huge.

https://x.com/i/status/2038579961003405503
Kudos to the FG and congratulations to the “lucky “ 45 who got the grant eventually .

This is not a diss at the FG for this initiative, but trust me this is just a tiny drop in the mighty ocean as far as setting up the youth of this country for a rewarding future is concerned .

God knows the number of brilliant minds that would’ve been screened out to arrive at the total number of 45 winners all over Naija .

Earlier this year I was in a session with some of our internal and external stakeholders (international stakeholders) and in one of the presentations from our internal team , I saw a side that showed the grim reality of the Nigerian youth .

A graduate trainee program which focused on co-opting graduate engineers ( Civil , mechanical , chemical , electrical , petroleum , etc ) was organized by the organization . Over 12,000 applications from HND and bachelors degree holders was received from graduates of universities across Nigeria , over 10,000 of the applicants got shortlisted and after a rigorous recruitment profess that lasted months ; only 100 candidates were eventually absorbed as graduate trainees into the system .

For someone who had once been in the same position as some of those applicants , I had a realization that one needs to be extremely lucky after being smart to breakthrough in this country , especially when you are following the due process of things without knowing anybody that can influence things in your favor .

Once again , congratulations to the winners of the FG N50m VC initiative. Hope they make the best use of the opportunity .

Seems Airtel ODU “unlimited “ data plan has a 1TB data fair usage policy after all .

I noticed that during my last sub the network speed was pretty slow like 4 days before my next sub . So yesterday I was 14 days away from my next cycle of payment for renewal .

I logged on to the router and discovered I had used 1.17TB of data since my last sub after experiencing terrible data speed . Then I did some google search and confirmed that once you cross 1TB data usage on the airtel unlimited package , your network speed will revert to “
Snail speed per seconds “‘.

Las las, there’s no true unlimited data plan in naija .

The past month has been an incredibly difficult period for me and my family. Nigeria happened to a beloved and close member of the family and this one hit really hard.

I am still struggling to reconcile the harsh reality that she is gone. Imagine speaking over the phone with someone one day after something that brought extreme joy to the entire family and 2 days later the person is gone. The entire family is devasted and the pain no be here.

A very big thanks to everyone who reached out, I no fit mention everybody, including those who left mentions on the forum, I am really grateful. Once again, death puts a lot of things in perspective for me. Life is too short, do the best you can and find happiness in little things.

Even the Rooney view point can't hold water
We all know English age fast, moreover cr7 is still in service and if you compare him with Messi you will know is even showing signs of aging

Why not compare titi with cr7 then, person they lie for age una talk say na health wise
This is someone erogen and King Charles were holding to walk
Well, Rooney has always seem like one struggling with obesity/ health issues that would've manifested long time ago if not for the discipline the lifestyle of a professional footballer requires. So, it is understandable he aged that fast the moment he retired from professional football.

The thing is Ronaldo won't age that first even if he retires from football, just like dem Henry and co.

Even if Tinubu reduced his age, I don't think the number of years cut is enough to be responsible for his physical condition. I know his real age can't be more than OBJ, yet OBJ has always seem more agile/healthier.

I don't know what happened to GloriousGbola's post on Charlyboy and Tinubu (Maybe the bot took it down ) , but I want to say I disagree with him.

He is saying being a governor and current governor took a toll on Tinubu more than Charlyboy who was/is an entertainer. I completely diagree with his viewpoint 100%

In fact, entertainers like Charlyboy are known to get easily worn out because of their lifestyle choices which includes smoking and drinking. Since when I was a kid I have always seen pictures of Charlyboy puffing something, normally I believe he should suffer ill-health more than Tinubu who is a supposed Muslim whom I've not really seen him boozing before.

I will rather go with Raumdeuter's viewpoint using the Rooney vs Ronaldo example. Sometimes health issues may make one age faster than one's mate as in the case of Rooney. I want to belief Tinubu is actually not well (tho his handlers won't admit it so far he's still able to move around, but we all can that it's obvious)

in the end okada and keke napep are also hand to mouth for 90% of them. they just have good starting income compared to other jobs , but no real progression after that.
A serious okada rider will buy land, build house and pay his children's school fees from the business while a mechanic struggles to make ends meet year after year due to low patronage.

Most of those okada riders that know what they are doing have sites in ogun state. Na the ones addicted to baba ijebu, have multiple women and drug/alcohol addiction go remain at same level without real progression after some years.

Why do you think those guys buy another bike to continue hustle the very moment Lagos state govt task force seize their bike ?

my mechanic was complaining that no one wants to take the time to learn work which comes with an incubation period - when they can go out and start earning quick money sharp sharp on okada . this complaint goes back three or four years.
It's actually not easy spending as much as 5 years or more to learn a skill will be fetching you peanuts na.

Most of the apprentice always size their ogas up to see the hand-to-mouth life they are living after years of practise and they decide that is not the life they want for themselves.

If we don't have a system that recognizes and rewards skills of artisans on hourly rates/service charges, I'm afraid in the nearest future there will be scarcity of artisans in this country.

as an aside - it is not so much to make ends meet as it is a low barrier to entry - and a low barrier to quick but eventually plateaued income.
For majority of them, it is actually about making ends meet.

Look at tailoring for example, how many tailors actually do make ends meet sewing cloth in a place like let's say Ayobo where there are many competitors, no constant electricity, high shop rent and multiple council taxes/levies payable to Local Govt/LCDA?

A young apprentice in his final year of apprenticeship has seen how his oga struggles to make ends meet despite having access to cheap/free labour (senior apprentice sew for him for free) ; it's only normal for him to look for how to make ends meet away from that tailoring once he does his "freedom ceremony " and receives his oga's blessings.

Most likely he will sell the sewing machine his parents bought for him , source for bike and start "hustling" with the bike. You will see them at Ikeja-Along ferrying passengers through that Lagos Abeokuta expressway down to Abule Egba during rush hours in the evening.

Most of those guys just get a friend or family member show them how to move a bike with a day or two. Then they get their own bikes and start riding just like that.

The ones who are northerners buy their bikes from the north and travel down south with it in trailers.

The southerners who ride are mostly artisans who abandoned their tailoring, vulcanizer, mechanic, barbing, welder, etc.) to ride bikes in order to make ends meet. Like the northerners too, they don't spend much time learning how to ride neither do they have anybody explain traffic rules to them.

They always interpret what happens on the road in their own favor and would not hesitate to mob you if you are involved in an incident with them even when they are in the wrong.

Everything is wrong with that video from start to finish. Only the person making the video is right grin

For me, I'll blame the Bus driver. He was clearly entering into the right lane, and he obviously didn't look at his mirror before turning.

Secondly, the bike man. No horn, and you're speeding

Lastly, the other bikes parked on the road. That is clearly a whole lane that these guys parked their bikes vertically. If those bikes were not parked there, the victim would have had enough space to overtake.

Everybody should be arrested in that video, except the lady making it
Omo!

We literally have the same thought process.

That particular bus stop need to be cleared cos more accidents will still happen there if those bike men continue to occupy a portion of the expressway.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 10:40am On Mar 30
iamoyindamola:
Izzou, with your experience who's at fault?
I think it the bikeman, he can't be speeding in such places even if the bus wasn't coming.
I see people saying the driver should have look at his side mirror but he might have abd the next seconds these werey pop out of nowhere

There's a lot wrong in the video.

1. The way bikemen casually parked on a major road like that (which I suspect to be an expressway) is a recipe for disaster. Someday a heavy-duty vehicle's brake may fail and it will clear all those mumu bike men parked by the roadside illegally.
Ideally law enforcement agents should regularly raid that spot to arrest all those bike men cos they can always cause accidents in that spot.

2. Most bike men like the one involved in the accident have zero knowledge of traffic laws. They just overtake anyhow expecting other road users to watch out for them. They are always overtaking at a high speed within the shortest time possible and always other road users zero time to react.

Sometimes when driving I will see one bike man overtaking from the right and another maluu overtaking from the left at the same time. So somehow, they expect you to be checking both side mirrors at the same time . grin

3. The korope drivers too are menace on the road. Some of them like that driver can stop to pick passenger anywhere on the expressway. I suspect the korope wanted to "shadow passengers " where those bike men were parked by the road side; that's the reason he swerved right the very moment the stewpiid bike tried overtake right from nowhere. I don't see any other reason for him to have swerved right while the road in from of him was free. I'm very sure he didn't engage his trafficator while making right (that is if any of his lights even work sef )

Wetin pain me pass, that mama sunking fan wey she dey carry go her shop to go enjoy, the bikeman and korope driver don use their recklessness damage am. The woman go dey look for money to buy another one now wey Adelabu no gree give everybody light. 💔

Honestly, Some serious conversations needs to be have in this country about religious tolerance.

I mean a week ago Eid was celebrated peacefully in different parts of this country with Muslims doing the celebrations while the irreligious and adherants of other religions peacefully enjoying the holidays that came with the celebration in the Comfort of their homes.

Yesterday was Palm Sunday that precedes Easter and it ended with scores of christians getting massacred by Islamic Jihadists of fulani extraction in plataeu state who did that probably to score a point based on their religious fanaticsm.

It's not a one-off thing because during Christmas and Easter celebrations you either read of a truck running over procession of christians in Gombe or Bauchi state without much being done by government(both state and federal) to punish the perpetrators to prevent future occurrence.

As much as FG and their supporters want to deny religious persecution in this country, it is real based on the past evidences and this recent one. It is what it is. 😪

The number of governors that fixed Federal roads since 1999 fit no reach 10 sef.

It's a good thing to fix oh. I'm not blaming Otti for what he did. I'm just saying that reimbursements can only happen with proper arrangements, and not immediately
The tweet is obviously agenda driven na, the guy no just cook the agenda well. That OBJ or Buhari reimbursed governors in the past does not necessarily mean Tinubu's government or the government after it would do so..... They could easily use paucity of funds as excuse why tbey won't be able to reimburse Otti and the excuse will pass.

Tinubu government can easily explain that their financial commitment to diffrent federal capital projects across the country would not allow for them ro have enough funds to reimburse Otti.

Methinks Otti should just move on, at least he didn't use his personal money for the project but public funds. The funds belongs to the state and the roads he constructed is for the benefit of the people. He shouldn't toll it as FG suggested lest the people who are struggling serious economic challenges still be forced to pay toll on roads that should be free. He should leave FG and their madnesss of tolling every road they manage to fix
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 10:29pm On Mar 29
izzou:
Secondly, I would like to know how many governors since 1999 ever fixed a Federal road, and how many was ever fixed. State roads wey dem never finish, na Federal road dem wan do?
Some governors in different states have fixed federal roads within their states in the past.

Wike fixed series of federal roads in Rivers state during his time s governor and he got reimbursed by Buhari's FG for some of them. I remember seeing Wike's full page advert in the papers thanking Buhari led government for reimbursement for some of the federal roads fixed by rivers state government. It made news headline then because Wike was a hardcore critic of Buhari's government.

I also know Ambode's government had some palliative repairs work done on Lagos-Apapa expressway ( a federal road) during his tenure as governor of Lagos state.

I think governors sometimes fix federal roads in their states just to alleviate the suffering of the people, but whether they will get reimbursement from FG for such intervention projects is not cast in stone at all. It's mostly the prerogative of the FG to decide if you will get reimbursement or not since no agreement was signed with you before embarking on such projects

The bolded is the major point, Keke's increase can't be like that of buses or korope.
Keke along my route have increased prices from 150 to 200 and on one other route the price hasn't changed from 200.

Buses and Korope along the area have increased from 1000 to 1500 and 300 to 400.

Along my route their profit margins have shrunk.

However, keke's that operate long routes might still be in profit.
Keke along another route increased from 500 to 700, they should still be in profit.

My bro, u get am! It's normal for the Keke guy's first set of trip to turn out that way. Most of those guys are not as educated as some of us reacting online who can easily do plus and minus from the moment we buy the fuel. It takes them time to figure out tbey are running at a loss before they decide to jack up the price. As the guy has observed he only made N50 profit from the first N5,000 fueling, he will adjust his price so he can be in profit before the day runs out.

That doesn't mean he will earn more than he used to earn when the price was stable, but at least he will put his house in order after the initial realization

Something happened in Nigeria in April 2017 that shocked everyone. The ending of this story will shock you even more.

The EFCC received information about a large amount of money being kept inside a private apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The information came through a whistleblower.

Then on the 12th of April 2017, EFCC officers went to the flat at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi.

When they entered the apartment, they found large sums of money kept inside metal cabinet and Ghana must go bag.

The money was all in cash.

After counting, the EFCC discovered about 43 million dollars, 27,800 British pounds and 23 million Naira.

All in cash.

The apartment was quickly sealed and the money was taken into EFCC custody.

As investigation continued, the apartment and the money were linked to Folashade Oke.

Fulashade Oke is the wife of Ayodele Oke.

At that time, Ayodele Oke was the director general of the National Intelligence Agency.

President Mohammadu Buhari ordered his immediate suspensions as the director general of the National Intelligence Agency to allow for investigation.

Court documents later showed that the apartment was bought in 2015 through a company and that company was led by Folashade Oke and her son, and the apartment was reportedly purchased with cash.

Omo cash was flowing then.

During the investigations, there were allegations that the money found in the apartment could be unlawful public funds suspected to have been diverted while Ayodele Oke was the head of intelligence agency.

By November 2017 the matter had reached the Federal High Court in Lagos In early November the EFCC summoned Ayodele Oke and his wife to appear for questioning in connection with the cash discovery.

On November 9, 2017, the Federal High Court ordered the interim forfeiture of the Ikoyi apartment and the entire sum of money to the federal government of Nigeria.

The court then gave a period of 14 days for any person or organization to come forward and show why the property and the money should not be permanently forfeited to the government.

But no successful legal claim was established.

The court later ordered the finance official of the cash and the apartment to the federal government.

The whistleblower who provided the information was rewarded under the federal whistleblowing policy.

In 2019, the EFCC declared Ayodele Oke and his wife wanted, after they failed to appear in court, to face charges later to the money laundry and unlawful possessions of funds.

The case remained in court for several years. Because the man and his wife had fled the country long before for acclaimed medical reasons.

And then finally, in June 2023, the EFCC applied to withdraw the charges. Why?.

The commission told the court that the withdrawal was based on national security considerations.

The Federal High Court granted the request.

And that was how the charges were struck out.

And the case was brought to an end, just like that.

Now guess what? Here's the shocker...

The same Ayodele Oke is now Nigerian's ambassador-designate to France.

He was nominated by President Tinubu and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.

Do not scratch your ear.
You indeed heard what I said.

Welcome to our motherland.

~ Fidelis
Tinubu has a thing for people with questionable character ; He's never beating the allegation.

I saw videos of Hadi Sirika of the Nigeria Air scam at the APC convention yesterday, I was wondering if the guy's case with EFCC has now been swept under the carpet or if he's free to go about doing his thing till FG withdraws the case.

I detest Emefiele but when you look at how Hadi Sirika and co move around, you will would be wondering what made Emefiele's case more serious than Sirika's. They are getting contrasting treatment for similar crimes

Have you had the experience of working on the road before?
It's amusing seeing him write paragraphs upon paragraphs trying to use his theoretical knowledge based on assumptions to invalidate the transporters' practical experience.

Since yesterday I just dey read all his assumptions with amusement and chose to keep quite lest people think my agreement with the transporter's experience is based on my dislike for the incumbent government.

One of the major mistake he's making that flaws his argument is the fact that he thinks keke riders can increase their fares at the same rate buses, cabs and taxi drivers do. Most keke ply short distances that are within communities. Most of the routes keke ply are trekkable, so the moment u decide to increase the cost per trip from 200 to 400 because fuel which used to be N850 less than a month ago is now N1,300; majority of potential customers will trek. At some point you will be forced to reduce the price to say maybe N250 and this will definitely lead to a loss in the long run.(The reason why you would reduce the price is because you have limited time to work with ghe keke if you are not the owner. You won't sit on your fuel hoping a customer that will pay higher fare will come when you know you will give the Keke to someone else to work with in the evening)

Another major point he's overlooking is the fact that as at the time the guy made the video he just finished his first round of trips and needed to refuel only for him to discover he's only been able to gain N50 on the initial N5,000 he spent on fuel. That does not necessarily mean the guy will make N50 on the next N5,000 fuel he will buy because from thereon he will have to increase his fares which should increase his bottom line and that is if he sees customers desperate enough to patronize him based on the new price.(Of course, this will depend on how important where those guys are going and how unwilling they are to trek)

The bottom line is that Keke rider's story is not necessarily false considering those were his major trips that morning; he's more likely to adjust his price afterwards the moment he buys the next batch fuel to avoid running that day at a loss. And yes! There will be low patronage going forward ; some of the Keke riders may even decide to focus strictly on charter like people running provisions store chartering them to help carry their goods when they go to restock or food sellers ordering them to help ferry their wares to the market and back home in the evening.

Below is the video which may seem like cruise to anybody who isn't close to those in the lower rungs of the society, but things on the streets are far worse than people are saying on the internet. I can't even count the number of times men with families will strategically perch at car parks of malls, stores and supermarkets like Jendol, etc, approach you to please buy any food item for them to take to their families. Some would even hold one of their kids and you can see they don't even want money but just food to fill their belly.

If person dey talk online wetin person dey see regularly on the streets, he go be like person dey exaggerate to make the government look really really bad.
