The federal government granted a waiver to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) to recruit 300 members of staff in August 2025, TheCable can report.

Mimi Abu, director, organisation design and development, in the office of the head of the civil service of the federation, conveyed the government’s approval for recruitment in a letter dated August 7, 2025.

The waiver was necessary because of the federal government’s embargo on general civil service recruitment.

In the two-page letter conveying the waiver, which was copied to the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, Abu said the PFIPC had been approved to recruit 10 directors on grade level (GL) 17 and 20 assistant directors on GL15.

There was also approval for the recruitment of 44 administrative officers, with 20 on GL08, 15 on GL09, four on GL12 and five on GL14.

“This approval is based on and limited to the 2025 Approved Establishment position of the Agency, which covers the proposed recruitment,” Abu wrote in the letter.

“You are please advised to: (a) obtain the clearance of the Budget Office of the Federation in line with the provisions of the extant circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation before the recruitment; (b) adhere to extant rules including the Federal Character principle while filling the vacancies; and (c) ensure that 5% of the recruitment is allocated to persons living with disabilities.

“Kindly note that: (a) on no account should the approval be varied or exceeded, in order not to increase the personnel costs unduly; (b) the officials of this office are required to be present during the exercise to ensure compliance with the waiver; and (c) the list of candidates who are successful in the engagement exercise should be forwarded to this Office for record purposes.

“Please accept the warm regards of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.”

Twenty-four hours after the letter’s issuance, Adeniyi Adeyemi, the director-general of PFIPC, published a note of appreciation on social media, thanking President Bola Tinubu for granting the waiver.

“Mr. President, we are growing because you believe in us,” the message reads in part.



Adeyemi also indicated that the agency had secured approval for “the establishment of PFIPC offices in all the 36 states of the federation” and “the rollout of 127 global offices across the world”.

“The visionary support strengthens our resolve to champion Nigerian enterprise and attract foreign direct investments across every border,” he said.

If for any reason you are on the inside track processes will be waived, due diligence will be postponed and payments will be made without following process. Everyone will look away unless you fall out of favor or overdo in a way that cannot be overlooked

If Gbaja had ties to the man and stuck his neck out for him, then this is on him. Not quite the same but when Ifeanyi ubah was chasing access bank loan, cosmas maduka stood up for the guy ignoring the warnings of everyone else. When it all went sideways cosmas had to resign as director.

I don't know the corporate world you are referring to, but the corporate world where I work where internal control and audit is a thing, such nonsense is definitely not happening unnoticed.

What just happened is like a company paying salaries to a General manager and an entire line of managers, officers and trainees under his division despite the GM not being an employee of the company neither does his division exist in the company's organogram. For your information, the man has 300+ employees under his agency whose salaries have provisions made for in the 2026 budget of Nigeria

The man heads an agency that has budgetary allocation in the 2026 budget of the federal Republic of Nigeria and the Chief of Staff to the president claims he's not known to the presidency yet his agancy's budget was under presidency sub-budget.

This one goes beyond posing as NNPC official . Do you know what it takes to open a Treasury Single Account with CBN as an agency of the federal government? It means the office of the Accountant general cleared the agency before CBN opened the account.

Do you know what it means to have budgetary allocation in the 2026 Budget of the country?

I think we are trivializing the issue when we just say " The man is an OG con artiste ". We should be talking about how he's able pull all that off in plain sight ; he definitely has accomplices in the top hierarchy of the presidency. He has mentioned Femi Gbajabiamila and openly accused him.

The presidency should first and foremost suspend Gbaja and carry out a thorough independent investigation instead of the nonsense Bayo Onanuga's press release if they have any integrity remaining.

We really need explanation as to how he did not only meet the number 6 man in Nigeria, but he had closed door meeting with our lawmakers when he visited the house our assembly. The man was operating in plain sight.

And yes the man made a grave accusation that Gbaja collected some hundreds of millions from him through proxies for securing that appointment for him. He even challenged the presidency to do through investigations. The man fit be thief o, but Femi Gbaja is definitely not a saint on this matter. I listened to a newspaper review this morning and it seems Daily Trust did almost 3 pages on this Gbaja scandal. From the newspaper review, if naija na normal country Gbaja should not be the president's Chief of staff by July 2nd 2026.

The man heading the council in question called out Gbaja with full chest, gave evidences and even want Gbaja to put body if he sure for am say he no demand the 48 per cent. It's unfortunate that the presidency is keeping mum, the rubber stamp house of assembly is keeping mum and the toothless bulldog called EFCC is looking away.

I just hope Tinubu and his co-travellers won't turn this country to an empty basket before another government takes power in the nearest future.

The government can’t do too much cos they know that it is a misdirected attack. They are the ones that should be targeted by their people so they are probably thankful that foreigners are they’re to face the heat.

It's possible the coastal road is responsible for the flooding happening in places that before now didn't experience any type of flooding.

I don't think so, rather it's about some of the major canals needing dredging. At least for mainland, I believe it's the major canals and water channels filled with sand that needs dredging.

I don't see how Coastal road in far away Lekki will cause flooding in Maryland on the mainland.
