The federal police comes from Ekiti with intentions of arresting Dele after which they would charge him to court for criminal defamation.

But let's day Dele is a state commissioner in Lagos state and has connection with Lagos state police force. So Lagos police force foils the arrest attempt of Federal police from Kwara state and there's a stand off.

Don't you think we will more of such scenarios in the coming days? Shebi na who police fit carry go dem go detain and charge to court?

In some cases where Federal law is at odd with state laws, I will assume that the Federal law will take priority. I am not a law so take this last sentence with a grain of salt

It's not that simple. If you write the defamatory words or you publish it via social media and the people in different states access the defamatory content, it is assumed you committed the crime in any of the states.

For example if you write a newspaper article in Lagos and it is accessible to the person in Kwara state, he can actually have a ground for action against you.

So the question is : If the person decides to use federal police from Kwara state command to carry you like what Afe Babalola did to Dele Farotimi who is resident in Lagos, can Lagos state police foil the arrest attempt? Won't there be confrontation between the different police forces as regards who has jurisdiction?

So, I just listened to him and I hear him saying the Federal Police will focus on enforcement of federal laws while state police will enforce state laws particularly laws that have been domesticated by the state house of assembly.

I want to ask a question: Defamation is not a crime according to Lagos state laws but a civil wrong. However, in some states defamation remains a crime based on the criminal code and that's why some people will send police down to Lagos to arrest you and then have you detained in a state like Kwara where you will be prosecuted for defamation as a crime.

So, under this new state police system, won't people still use federal police to carry you from Lagos to Abuja to prosecute you for an offence that is not a crime under Lagos state law? Who will draw the lines between the jurisdiction of Federal police and state police?

So won't their duties overlap?

How will both state police and federal police function side by side? Won't there be jurisdiction issues knowing how Nigerian security agencies can be?

Who would be first respondent in criminal matters? Is it the state or federal police?

Also, when it comes to prosecuting an offender is it the federal police that will charge a criminal to court or state police? What crimes can the state police arrest you for and what crimes can the federal police arrest you for?

Also, can Lagos state police arrest you and have you stand trial before a judge in Ekiti state?

It's not about one state not having enough money, the fact is most states actually do not have money to fund a functional state police based on their current allocation + IGR + security votes.

Anyways let's wait and see how it will all play out. Let's see how state police will be different from the federal police in terms of corruption, extortions and indiscriminate arrest of citizens.

In that case, only few states will have functional state police because not many states have enough IGR +allocation that is enough to run the state and still run state police.

I'm looking at the infrastructure, operational vehicles, arms and ammunitions and other cost of operation that will be required to run state police in some poor states.....Even if they collect security votes for 2 years straight, some of the states may not have enough to run functional state police.

Las Las , it will be like minimum wage that some states could afford to pay above minimum wage, while some states cannot afford to pay.

You are right, I've seen comments of people under the post tackling the police's debunking post. Some of the guns carried by the guys on bike, Nigeria police don't even have them.

Also, the voice in the background of the video suggests the police men were scared of the men on bike and referred to them as bandits.

Some of those guys even wore military camouflage.

UPDATE

Nigeria police force has debunked this video; they claimed the armed guys on bike are members of Vigilantes working in conjunction with state security officers to combat the insecurity challenge in the particularly Katsina state where the video was recorded.

Now we don't know if the police is telling a deliberate lie to calm the people or whether indeed those guys are vigilantes helping the state actors to combat terrorism.

When I was in Junior Secondary School in the early 2000's I last saw classrooms like this in Lagos. Fashola's administration and subsequent governments in Lagos revolutionized the public school system and invested a whole lot in remodeling classrooms. They also provided chairs and desk. (Tinubu's government started it with the Millenium schools, but the reach was quite limited)

I remember JSS1 that time, parents were advised to get carpenters to make chairs with lockers for their kids which they would use to sit in class. Those students whose parents couldn't afford to get them chairs either sit on a stone on the floor like these kids or place a plank between two chairs belonging to their friends to form a makeshift chair.
