Our porous borders (Most especially borders in the northern part of the country) is a big security challenged that was overlooked for too long.

I think some of those immigration officers feel if they cannot be posted to international airport where they can shake off travelers of their Dollars and naira, then they should be able to get their own roger from illegal immigrants who travel into the country via land borders. They do this without sparing a thought for the effect of their actions on the overall security architecture of the country.

I spend most of the day enduring my boy climbing me and jumping here and there. Trying to keep toddlers alive alone is a tiring job, then I will spend my night watching games I no emotional attachment to either of the two teams? I can't anymore.

I enjoyed 2018 World cup the most, In fact that was the world cup I watched most of its matches since I started watching world cup.

The matches are always around 5pm, 7pm and 9pm during weekdays. I think they played some matches in the afternoon during weekends.

Where I was living then they brought a big viewing center to our mini stadium with a very large screen. The period coincided with when Budweiser launched officially in Nigeria, we just dey watch match dey chill with Budweiser who brought their sales rep to market the beer all through the world cup at our viewing center. It was more like a carnival.

TROOPS APPREHEND 46 SUSPECTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN OGUN STATE

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in conjunction with DSS, NSCDC and Immigration, have apprehended 46 suspected illegal immigrants residing in Ogun State following actionable intelligence.

The operation which commenced on 11 June 2026, led to the arrest of the suspects at various locations within Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese and surrounding communities during a targeted security operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had allegedly been residing in the state for approximately six months without valid immigration documentation.

During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities.

The arrested individuals comprise 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 nationals of Côte d'Ivoire, 4 nationals of Togo and 1 national of Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in accordance with extant laws.

Speaking on the operation, the Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and collaborating security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance. He also urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities and individuals to relevant security agencies.

The successful operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to combating illegal migration, enhancing internal security, and safeguarding national interests.

This is a commendable effort at combating the insecurity challenge the nation is facing.

It's just unfortunate that some of these illegal immigrants are allowed into this country by bribe seeking immigration officers who take paltry sums to look the other way.

I witnessed this during my service year while traveling to and fro the north. The immigration officers will stop vehicles at checkpoints, profile the passengers and identify passengers who are from Chad, Niger, Cameroun, etc without valid immigration documents.

They would take them aside, collect money from them and allow them to join us to continue the journey afterwards. Only those who don't "cooperate" will be datained. Illegal immigrants literally slip through our boarders because we have public officers who turn a blind eye after collecting bribes. Sometimes the illegal immigrants already pay the driver the bribe from the park , so the driver negotiates with the immigration officers at "wholesale price".

It's a good move that the joint task force is going after the ones already in the country. I hope the upper hierarchy of the immigration service impress it on the field officers that they have a duty as the first line of defense to protect our boarders sha.

Personally, I feel we supposed don wrap up one or two signings before the world cup start o. I fear if some of our potential signings shine at the world cup, it will drive their value higher, and their current clubs will want to milk us dry.

I understand we have enough transfer budget to get our desired players in this transfer window owing to how well the club earned this past season, but then we need to be prudent in our spendings too. We need to get our business done ASAP, have the players ready for pre-season and be ready for the new season.

Even dirty spuds who escaped relegation have started getting busy in the market as soon as the season ended. To think we will be playing them as our first match of the season. I don't want surprises at all. I hope Berta will and his team will get busy in the market soonest.
