NO STUDENT KILLED AS NSCDC RESTORES ORDER TO JSS GWARINPA.
Contrary to claims in some sections of the media alleging the killing of two students of a secondary school in Gwarinpa, Abuja, it is noteworthy to point out that nobody was killed as alleged.
The facts of the matter are as follows;
For the records, the NSCDC FCT Command, was invited by the management of Junior Secondary School, Gwarinpa, for security coverage through a letter dated 21st November, 2023 and signed by the school Director/ Principal, Mr Akinfolajimi Olayinka.
His request was premised on the fact that the school was being terrorized by some criminal elements who always gained access into the school premises by jumping over the perimeter fence.
According to the school authority, the invitation of the Corps became necessary due to the increasing number of notorious students in the school and for the safety of other students and teachers.
However, on Wednesday 29th November, the school was invaded by some notorious elements, some of who were expelled students and their student collaborators to disturb the peace of the school and caused mayhem by destroying cars belonging to the teachers at the parking lot.
Armed with cudgels and other dangerous weapons, some of the hoodlums had launched attack on the deployed unarmed NSCDC personnel, staff and students of the school which necessitated the call for a back up by armed personnel.
In the melee that followed, two (2) students sustained bullet wounds unintentionally when warning shots were fired into the air in an attempt to prevent carnage by some notorious ex-students who were suspected cult members that had been expelled from the school.
On account of this development, and to avoid the situation getting out of hand, the NSCDC FCT Commandant intimated his police counterpart who immediately drafted police officers to the school and both agencies worked collaboratively to ensure that normalcy, peace and order was restored to the school premises.
The FCT Commandant, Odumosu Olusola had on receipt of the incident, immediately undergone an assessment tour of the school, and also paid a visit to the two (2) students currently undergoing treatment at a government facility.
Contacts have also been established with their parents and it can be authoritatively confirmed that the injured students are in a very stable condition.
Going by this development, Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi PhD, mni, in his avowed commitment to professionalism and transparency policing, has ordered the Forensic Psychological Examination Wing of the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre to immediately commence evaluation of all armed personnel of the FCT Command.
Also, the Corps management has set up a panel of inquiry to get to the root of the matter and internal disciplinary mechanisms would be deployed to punish any of the personnel found wanting in the unfortunate incident.
The NSCDC FCT Command wishes to apologize to the parents/guardians of the two students who were injured unintentionally and promises to pick up the bills incurred in the course of their treatment.
The Command urges members of the public to disregard reports to the contrary as the Corps remained committed to the Federal Government's Safe School programme and would not allow miscreants under any guise to breach the peace in our academic environments.
Signed: ASCI OKOMANYI COMFORT CDPRO, FCT COMMAND.
The news said that two students were shot at, and they had gun wounds, and that they are receiving treatment.
If you have EVER used your God-given common sense and honestly asked yourself exactly why these men are oba, you'd realize it's due to atrocities and subjugation of others perpetrated by their ancestors against YOUR ANCESTORS! See an excerpt below
Show me any history where there were upright ancestors.
Oga,, the current government cannot be claiming to respect the traditional institutions,, and at the same time tampering badly with it in any form. Whether in the form of monetary inducements or in the form of political and territorial interferences.
Is it possible for a petitioner to call 176,974 witnesses or to prove his case when the Tribunal is given just 180 days to hear a petition and deliver judgment?
Also, there are 8,000 electoral wards in the country,776 local governments 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A petitioner who wants to complain about the collation of results from the Polling Unit to the Ward to the Local government area collation centre to the State collation centre in presidential election litigation must also call witnesses in all these collation centres.
The burden of proof is on the petitioner not on INEC or the person whom a petition has been filed against.
I therefore submit that if Nigerians want to see a different trajectory in election litigation the law must change.
@ Okoi Obono-Obla
These things you listed here would be very difficult without technology. Calling witnesses in all the bla-bla-blaaa..
But as at 2023, with the type of electioneering technologies in place as at the moment,, the gathering of all necessary evidence is very possible even by the seventh day.. And there won't be need for calling hundreds of thousands of witnesses.. As at 2019, that would have been the case.. But for 2023,, the new electoral laws disregard all those.
The new Electoral Laws allowed for the front-loading of the “LIST OF EVIDENCE TO BE RELIED UPON” during filing. Maybe the Electoral Laws didn't expatiate well on that,, and we hope it gets adjusted very soon.
Even at that,, analysing and front-loading of all those necessary evidence -- and even front-loading the results and observations of all those analyses can be concluded by the 18th day.
As for the burden of proof,, the petitioners can bring in any possible evidence at their disposal and use it to establish their case (This is gotten from the Evidence-Act). It then becomes the burden of the defendants to bring in a superior evidence to counter the evidence of the petitioner,, and not to use legal arguments to punch holes in the evidence of the petitioner, or using legal arguments to try to establish that the evidence of the petitioners cannot be taken because they are not superior evidence,, and yet without producing such a superior evidence in that regards.
After all that had been said and done,, if left for me alone,, these past cases can just go..
What we need to do now is to entrench the electioneering technologies in our laws, and make the best out of these technologies. (Same thing suggested by the guy in your text)
I have already examined what I wanted to examine with these elections., and that is: to examine the capabilities of the deployed technologies so far..
And I must tell you the truth.. I can say that I trust the capabilities of the technologies.. WHAT I DON'T TRUST IS THE CRIMINAL-TENDENCIES OF THOSE THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HANDLING THESE TECHNOLOGIES... But still-on-still, the technologies were good enough, for them to even continue to work very well, despite the inadequacies of the handlers, in such a way that they were still able expose the inadequacies of the handlers..
For instance, the glitch had been established during the tribunal to be a mistake at the INEC’s end, and not at the Server’s end.. this means that it is a Handler's Error.
The blank copies and blurred copies were blamed on photocopying machines at the INEC’s office, which means that it is the handler's error.
And so on, and so forth..
This gives me hope that,, with the entrenchment of the technologies in the Electoral Laws,, and with all timelines in place with strict penalties,,, election cases wouldn't even be arising again. And if they arise,, then they would even be concluded within 2-months.
So, if these people decide to continue to press further,, it is their decision.. And I will get interested in their pressing-further too,, so I can be discovering more and more things.. ... .
. Meanwhile,, my suggestions towards the electoral reforms are being looked into..
Most of the things I suggested were appreciated..
So, I am looking forward to see most of the things I suggested in the new amendments.
ahnie: Reasons for this post is.... her husband is still bragging that what belongs to his wife also belongs to him, that he has rights to spend the money
My question is....who's to be blamed? Should we blame the woman for being too lax with her ATM CARD N PIN which her husband is privy to?
OR
The man that blew the wife's money on frivolities
The emboldened statement above was what shattered the woman finally.. She just left her old life and went off.
Let the man settle the bills and settle the kids too.
garfield1: Oga,some grounds are similar like the 18000 blank copies, network glitch, substantial noncompliance, overvoting, fct 25%.atiku judgment will apply here mutatis mutandis. The only ground that are not similar are drug issue, double nomination in which the pepc judgment applies.immediately they finished reading the atiku judgment, they simply decided to consolidate and thrash obi appeal
You just typed trash.
Which page or which paragraph of Atiku’s petition or appeal did he mention 18,000 blank copies, substantial compliance?
And if the LP brought the case of drug issue, double nomination to them as an appeal,, why would they be silent on it??
If it was going to be a consolidated judgement,, then, they would have listed the two cases of appeals (with their numbers) inside the CTC that was released.
IMO GUBER: INEC FRUSTRATING MOVES TO INSPECT BIVAS – SEN. ACHONONU LAMENTS.
After 19 days of the conduct of the governorship election in Imo State, the candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the election, Sen. Athan Achononu has raised alarm that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is frustrating every attempt to inspect the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (B-VAS) used during the conduct of the exercise.
Recall that Presidential Candidate of the same party Peter Obi on Monday lamented that several months after the Supreme Court delivered judgement on the Presidential election, he is yet to get a Certified True Copy (CTC) after he requested and made payments for it.
Sen. Achononu in chat with the media in Abuja on Wednesday wondered why the electoral empire is foot-dragging in allowing him access to the materials knowing fully well that he has limited time to tender his evidence before the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.
The former lawmaker who claimed that he won the election, said that the delay in releasing the BVAS for inspection my be part of the plans by the ruling party to force him to file his petitions out of time and get his matter struck out on technical grounds.
He said, “What is happening right now is that we went to the Tribunal, got an order for us to be allowed to inspect the BVAS. INEC has refused to let us inspect the BVAS up till now. Lawyers and experts were hired at a very huge cost per day 30 million, they are not allowing us to inspect it despite court order”.
The governorship candidate called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom he described as a democrat who went through the trenches to ensure that democracy returns to the country, to intervene and compel INEC to do the right thing. He said that Tinubu’s antecedent as one who fought for democracy is the only thing sustaining his desire to seek justice at the tribunal.
“What gives me confidence is that Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu was on the street for June 12, he made us believe that he was a democrat fighting for justice, freedom of choice and equal opportunity.
“Well, he is in the same party with Sen. Hope Uzodimma but this country shouldn’t be about party, it should be about quality of persons, what do you represent. I was in the senate with the first Lady, Sen. Tinubu, I know the kind of person she is, a person of integrity, how can they allow this kind of thing to happen under their watch.” He queried.
Sen. Achononu said that the INEC Chairman during the stakeholders meeting pledged that election result collations will start from the ward to the local government before the state but lamented that collation never took place in any ward. He accused INEC of colluding with the ruling party in the state to announce results that were not signed even when party agents were raising objections as to the credibility of those results.
“When we came to stakeholders meeting, we told the INEC chairman Prof. Mahmoud that there are certain things he needs to put in place for a smooth election. One is the removal of the REC. Secondly is that collation must take place at the ward level, local government level before the state level. We insisted that the result sheets must be signed by three officers, a national commissioner, the REC and each EO will sign that of his local government so that there will be no manipulation of the result sheets and he agreed.
“But surprisingly on the election day, there was no collation at the ward level even in some local governments. They moved everything to the state and in those places where there were insecurity and no election, results were collated, there were cluster voting in Orsu” Achononu lamented.
The LP candidate however expresses slight hope that he will get justice in the judiciary, saying that all hope is not lost.
He said, “I still have belief and faith in the survival of this country. I still claim that there are some men of integrity within the judiciary. These are men who hold the power of life and death over us. These are men who are supposed to live above reproach. There must be one or two of them, I hope I come across one of them in my case. I still believe in this country no matter what anybody says. Something will happen. Yes, I have come across a lot of men of integrity in this country, very few of them. I want to think that this will be the first test case of the judiciary, let’s see what happens” he said with an air of matchless confidence.
Another video is circulating, where a certain man -- believed to be the INEC-REC of Imo State -- was begging some stakeholders and chiefs who were standing there to go inside the building and inspect the [b]“DOCUMENTS”
.. But the stakeholders stood there and were looking at the man as he continued to beg and plead.
The man was caught on camera begging both LP-members and NNPP-members that are there to go inside and inspect the DOCUMENTS.. And that APGA had already gone inside, and that they are inspecting the materials with their officials inside.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_MsrjJBkC0
NSCDC OFFICERS SHOOT ABUJA STUDENTS DURING EXAMINATION
The Nigeria Police, on Wednesday, arrested and detained three personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for shooting two students of Senior Secondary School, Life Camp, within the Jabi and Gwarinpa areas of the Federal Capital Territory.
The PUNCH reports that the two students shot by the NSCDC operatives are currently receiving treatment at the Gwarinpa Hospital.
Following the shooting, some irate high school students vandalised three patrol vehicles belonging to the NSCDC in protest against the attack on their injured colleagues.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred around 11.20am on Wednesday (Date??).
The NSCDC personnel attached to the FCT Command of the NSCDC were at the school to provide security during an ongoing examination on the premises.
When contacted, the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, while noting that the police had restored peace in the affected area.
Adeh said, “The incident happened, but our operatives intervened in time to restore law and order, and the environment is now peaceful. Two injured students are currently receiving treatment, and the CP, Haruna Garba has ordered the commencement of an investigation into the incident.”
Meanwhile, the FCT Command of the NSCDC has yet to comment on the development.
When contacted for comments, the spokesperson for the FCT NSCDC, Comfort Okomanyi, said she was indisposed, while noting that she would make inquiries from the command and revert.
“I’m sorry, I’m currently indisposed. However, I’ll reach out to the command for an update on the matter, and I’ll get back to you,” Okomanyi noted.
garfield1: Nawao.didnt you watch the video of the judgment? They simply voted to dismiss the lp petition and similar grounds in pdp judgment applies to lp and adopted the pepc judgment where necessary
The Grounds Are Not Similar.
That's where they FAILED.!!
And are you saying that the LP/Obi should now go and pick the Judgement of PDP/Atiku?? Whereas the Judgement was strictly for PDP/Atiku,, (and not a Consolidated Judgement.... as is the case with the PEPT--Judgement)
