The Nri community in Anambra State, believed to be the ancestral home of the Igbo, has threatened to jail the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, for allegedly invading the area and desecrating sacred places. The community said it had concluded arrangements to drag the pro-Biafran agitator to court in that respect. The traditional of Nri, Igwe Eze Obidiegwu Onyeso, said this on Thursday while chatting with newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital. Speaking through his personal assistant, Chief Ifeanyi Onyeso, the monarch said Kanu and his IPOB’s ‘army of occupation’ invaded his community on July 18 withimpunity, without recourse to obeisance to the palace. The monarch said, “My people are highly angry about this misconduct of these intruders. Nri as an ancient kingdom and the cradle of Igbo people and her culture and tradition is highly revered among the Igbo. He added, “On July18, 2017, a day before Kanu came to Nri, 12 youths came to the palace of Eze Nri requesting an appointment with the traditional ruler for Kanu. “They were received and told to go and come back with a written letter so that they will get official reply from the palace since the delegation looked unusual, in that there was no titled person among them. “At this point, they all left and what we saw the next day was Kanu invading Nri community with a huge crowd of his supporters; he went straight to the house of one subject to the traditional ruler of Nri. “The feelers we later got, was that the subject claimed he had handed over the `Offo Nri’, (symbol of royalty) to Kanu, and even allowed Kanu to visit the historic “Ohianwehi forest” revered as “forest of life” by the Igbo tradition. “This forest is believed to be the place the first burnt offering was offered by the Jewish Igbo ancestors when they migrated from Israel more than 2,000 years ago. Onyeso noted that Nri people perceived Kanu’s conduct as a taboo because no visitor enters the community without first visiting the traditional ruler let alone going to a sacred place without the knowledge of the traditional ruler himself. He regretted that Kanu and his supporters after visiting one Mbanefo returned to the palace entrance gate of HRM Eze Ugochukwu Onyeso, where they were banging at the gate trying to force the gate open. “It was this unruly conduct that made the traditional ruler to telephone the security agents who responded promptly and dispersed Kanu and his supporters. This act is an affront on the tradition and culture of Nri people and as such we resolved not to sweep the matter under the carpet. “It is a taboo in Nri and equally against the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council Law. “The people of Nri and their traditional ruler are not against Nnamdi Kanu and his agitation, but what we cannot take is for Kanu to come and mess up the Nri culture and tradition under whatever motive. “The community will drag him to court and make sure we jail him to serve as a deterrent to others,” Onyeso stated. http://punchng.com/well-send-nnamdi-kanu-back-to-prison-anambra-community/ |

The Hausa ethnic group is one of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria and is one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa. The bulk of the Hausa people are based in northern Nigeria, though there are a few in parts of Southern Nigeria. The Hausas are largely pastoral and ‘agrocentric’; this is why they are the largest suppliers of food to the nation. Over time, some funny misconceptions have been formed about the Hausa people and Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 6 of them. Every one from the North is Hausa This is like saying everyone from the South is Yoruba. There are other ethnic groups in the North apart from the Hausa, though the Hausas are one of the predominant ethnic groups. Aside the Hausa ethnic group, the Fulani ethnic group also reside in the North along with some other smaller ethnic groups. All Hausas are Muslims Most Hausa people are muslims, but not all of them are. There are some Hausa christians residing right there in the North, with some of them as pastors leading congregations of other Hausa christians. Hausas are violent The religious fanatics amongst them are the heartless and violent ones, not the actual people of the tribe. The Hausa people are actually a friendly, warm and accommodating people. If you’re doubtful, as anyone who’s lived in their towns and let them tell you about just how nice to strangers they can be. They are not money conscious This is funny because there is hardly a human being alive who isn’t money conscious. What you can say about Hausas is that it typically doesn’t take them having a lot of money to be content; they tend to be content with whatever money they are able to make. This doesn’t mean there are not money conscious, it just means they have a modest financial culture. They can Never cheat anyone Cheating or not cheating a person is not dependent on ethnic group, it is dependent on a person’s character and personality. There are some Hausas that cheat people during business transactions, but that is because they are human beings, it has little or nothing to do with their ethnic group. Hausa people are dull It is important to not underestimate the fact that the richest man in Africa is an Hausa man. A lot of people say Hausa people are dull, that they behave like cows and that is why it is easy to manipulate them into religious fanaticism, but you will be surprised at just how smart a Hausa man or woman can be. Being smart does not depend on your ethnic group, it depends on the individual. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/6-funny-misconceptions-hausa-people/ |

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign state of Biafra has appealed to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state to release some Igbo traders unlawfully detained in the State since December, 2016. In a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State on Sunday, by MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Samuel Edeson, the group said as a friend of Biafra and the masses, it was not expected that the victims would suffer such fate in a state saddled by Fayose. The Biafra agitators expressed worry that since December last year the victims had not been arraigned before any court as all efforts to do so were being frustrated by Ekiti security agents. It expressed optimism that the fate of the victims would change any time Fayose would intervene. It gave some of the names of the detainees as: David Reuben, Onyemechi Nwanneka, Christopher Godwin, David Chukwu, Sunday Agbo, Sunday Mgbiri, Chisoba Obiekwe and Nwobodo James. The group’s statement read in part,” We want to bring to the attention of his Excellency, Governor Fayose of Ekiti State about the unlawful arrest and detention of some Igbo traders doing their legitimate businesses around Post Office, Ado Ekiti since Dec, 2016 by the agents of the state government task force. “MASSOB is worried that since last year December, they have not been arraigned before any court or allowed medical attention. ” Every efforts to secure their release are being frustrated by Ekiti state security agents. “The business of making our country truly great is not just the business of government. Government is transient, it passes away but it is the business of every one of us.’’ “I can assure you that whatever it takes to make our country truly where it should be in the comity of nations in Africa and anywhere in the world, we will give it.’’ REMARKS BY THE ACTING PRESIDENT FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, AT THE LAUNCH OF THE MSMEs CLINICS IN THE FCT HELD AT THE EAGLE SQUARE, ABUJA ON THURSDAY JULY 20, 2017 PROTOCOLS This has been a very exciting afternoon for me because I have seen the future of the economy of our country and that future lies in the small and medium scale enterprises, many of who are here today advertising their products. For well over an hour, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, Governors & Ministers walked through booths where hundreds of MSMEs showcased and advertised their products. 20th July 2017. Just today I have come across BIMKAF Palace who produces coconut oil, flour, ginger powder, carrot oil and so on, Cura Foods and Disposables, Euphrates Renewable Enterprises, Bob-ella Décor & Event Management, Nwamaka Ventures and several other MSMEs. The list is far too long to go on mentioning them. I want to say that all of the businesses we have seen here today, many of them are young men and women who believe in this country and who are using Nigerian products, Nigerian crafted machines in many cases, fabricated and who are producing incredible things with what they have. A lot of the capital they have is from several of the micro finance businesses that are working with them. I want to say that the future of our country is in small businesses, medium size businesses doing great things, and that is what we are seeing here today. But it is not enough for these businesses to produce and manufacture and to work hard as they are doing, it is our business as government to do our part. That is exactly why we have this MSME Clinics, the reason why we decided to have this clinics in the different states where we have held them so far and now in Abuja, is because we believe that government has a key role to play in creating an environment for businesses to prosper and for businesses to make good. This is exactly why we are here, the idea came out of conversations I had with Mr. President about how we could develop small businesses quickly. We recognise that one of the chief problems that small businesses have is with regulatory agencies; being able to access regulatory agencies and get quick and efficient service from regulatory agencies. Secondly, funding is also an important constraint for many of these small businesses. So we thought that it would be wise to actually take these regulatory agencies to the small businesses rather than wait for the small businesses to come to the regulatory agencies. This interaction can sensitize the regulatory agencies themselves to the problems of small and medium scale enterprises. What we have seen so far is that there has been tremendous improvement in the way that the regulatory agencies respond to small and medium enterprises. So what we have done for example, is that we have brought NAFDAC which of course as you know is an important agency in the process of approvals for products. We brought NAFDAC, SON and even the CAC, that is the Corporate Affairs Commission. We brought the Bank of Industry here as well. These are important agencies for funding and regulation that need to interact with small and medium scale businesses, and we believe that interaction has been very fruitful indeed. We have done this in Aba, Ilorin, Sokoto, Jos, Kastina and in Calabar, and this in Abuja is the latest one. We are still going round the states and the different geo- political zones with the regulatory agencies and we are bringing about this interaction. I recently signed two Executive Orders which are closely related to improving the business environment for MSMEs. These Executive Orders are also important in the work we are trying to achieve. The first makes it easier for MSMEs to get approvals without delays and bureaucratic hassles; the other one is on local content. The first one which makes it easier for MSMEs to get approval, is one where we are seeking to reduce the time that it takes to register companies, reduce the time it takes to get approvals for different types of things that are required in a business. So, for your NAFDAC approval, we are trying to shorten that process, your SON approval, we are trying to shorten the process and the registration of companies as well. The other is local content which is absolutely important for us because we believe that just as the President said in his budget speech in December, we must make what we use and we must grow what we eat. It is our responsibility as a nation and as individuals that we patronise what it is that we need. Here today, I have seen all manners of products from coconut oil to plantain chips, all sorts of products, yams, agricultural produce, rice, practically everything and it is the desire of our government to ensure that we patronise these local products. By 2018, we expect to be completely self-sufficient in rice production, we are going to do the same for tomatoes; we are going to do the same for several others of our products. In this Executive Order which was signed barely six weeks ago, we are saying that the Federal Government of Nigeria and state governments must patronize locally produced goods. So, the first point of call is to patronize locally produced goods. Already the Armed Forces are patronizing those who are making boots and some people who are making fatigues and different kinds of fabrics for the Army. We are going to insist that this should be so in our purchases especially where we have events such as this and where we have state dinners and so on. And it is also our desire that we patronize locally produced clothing as much as we can. I am extremely proud of the achievements of the Abuja Enterprise Agency. I think that they have done a wonderful thing indeed by organizing this particular MSMEs Clinics and the various other things that we have seen that they are doing. It is great to hear that they are funding some other MSMEs as well, and that they intend to increase this funding which is extremely important and we hope to be able to support what the enterprise agency is doing. I will like to commend the FCT Minister for the excellent work that is going on and to say that we are fully behind you and we will support you in any possible way. As you know the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment is the former MD of the Abuja Enterprise Agency, so don’t be surprised to find that there would be more Ministers coming out from the Abuja Enterprise Agency. (Applause) I would also like to acknowledge your Excellencies, the governors who are here, and I want to thank you very much for taking the time to attend these MSMEs Clinics. We had a long day at NEC meeting but you also chose to come along and see for yourselves what Nigerians are doing and how well these enterprises are doing; I like to thank you very much for joining me in looking round the stands. I want to just say that the Federal Government is committed to MSMEs and to developing MSMEs. So, we are going to work very hard to ensure that we don’t just do exhibitions and come round to places like this and see what you are doing, but we are going to follow up; we are going to see that those who require funding, those who have the talents, those who have the creativity, are funded. It is not an easy task funding MSMEs because sometimes it is difficult to know who is where but one of the great advantages of what we are doing especially the Abuja Enterprise Agency is that we can find you where you are and we know exactly where you are. I have been speaking with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment that we will do all we can to ensure that you are well funded, that those who require funding are funded, those who require training are trained, that whatever support you require from the Federal Government, you will get it. The state governments are also committed. They have assisted us as we try to set up one-stop shops in the states that we have been, where the regulatory agencies can have their representatives and ensure that people who need regulatory approval are granted the regulatory approvals speedily. The business of making our country truly great is not just the business of government. Government is transient, it passes away but it is the business of every one of us, and this country has the talent, this country has the men and women who have the creative ability to make our country greater than any country in the world. I can assure you that whatever it takes to make our country truly where it should be in the comity of nations in Africa and anywhere in the world, we will give it. Thank you very much. God bless you. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/seen-future-o-nigerias-economy-osinbajo/ |
Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington has died aged 41, LA County
Coroner says. The coroner said Bennington apparently hanged himself. His body was found at a private home in the county at 09:00 local time (17:00 GMT) on Thursday. He is said to have struggled for years with alcohol and drug abuse, and has talked in the past about suicide as a result of being a victim of abuse as a child. Bennington wrote an open letter to Chris Cornell on the latter's death, saying: "You have inspired me in ways you could never have known... I can't imagine a world without you in it." Cornell would have celebrated his 53rd birthday on Thursday. He hanged himself after a concert in Detroit on 17 May. Band member Mike Shinoda confirmed the news of Bennington's death on Twitter: "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one." The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has reaffirmed government’s decision that any programme meant for Nigerians must be produced in Nigeria, saying he was not appointed Minister to develop the economy of other countries at the expense of the Nigerian economy. In a statement on Wednesday , the Minister said the Creative Industry’s potential of creating 1 million jobs in three years cannot be realized if jobs meant for Nigerians are being exported to other countries under the guise of producing, in other countries, programmes to be consumed in Nigeria. ”I didn’t say that henceforth, all music videos and films will be produced in Nigeria, or that the production of music videos or films outside Nigeria will be banned. All I said was that if a programme is designated as a Nigerian (local) content programme, we will amend the Code to ensure that it is produced in Nigeria,” he said, adding: ”On that, there is no going back.” The Minister recalled how his office was bombarded with calls from concerned Nigerians when the last edition of the ”Big Brother Naija” was produced in South Africa, saying he subsequently directed the National Broadcasting Commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the controversy. ”Following the findings, we decided to amend the relevant sections of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code to prevent a repeat of that development. “We are now in the process of doing that, so that anyone who intends to produce a reality show or similar programmes for Nigerians cannot take the production of such shows outside Nigeria. ”Nigerians are a very proud and resourceful people, and we are sure that no Nigerian will be against a decision to prevent the jobs that can be done in Nigeria by Nigerians from being exported to other countries,” he said. In a related development, Alhaji Mohammed has said the Broadcasting Code is also being amended to help develop the local football league. ”This (amendment) is not just about the Creative Industry. We are also going to ensure that the NBC Code is amended in a manner that if any company in Nigeria today invests a million dollars in promoting or supporting any (football) team or league outside Nigeria, I want the Broadcasting Code to be amended to the effect that it will not allow that programme to be aired unless that company supports the Nigerian League with a percentage that will not be less than 30 per cent of what was spent. ”This is because we cannot continue to develop the economies of the other parts of the world from the sweat of Nigerians and at the expense of the Nigerian economy,” the Minister said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/not-appointed-develop-economies-lai-mohammed/ |

Doyin Okupe who served as advisor to former president Goodluck Jonathan has formally joined the Accord Party a few weeks after he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party. Okupe made this known on Tuesday, July 18 via his Facebook page. This is coming about a week the Supreme Court gave its judgement on the PDP recognising Ahmed Makarfi as the chairman of the party and kicking out Senator Ali Modu Sherriff. In his statement, Okupe noted that he wasn’t interested in winning anything as a politician but to breed new set of politicians for the development of the country. Read his statement below: Following various consultations with political associates, family and friends I have decided to formally join the ACCORD Party. My decision is based on deep reflection on who I am and what I want from politics. To me politics does not begin and end with winning or losing elections. It's not about big or small parties either. It's also beyond personal relationships or endearing associations or friendships. There exists in our communities several platforms on which such affiliations and sentiments can be sufficiently gratified. To me, Politics is about, Service to the people, policies and ideologies that will serve the best interests of the greater majority of the society, Forthrightness and accountability, Honour and Integrity. I am not desperate to be anything anymore. But I am desperate to find and work with other Nigerians especially our young and vibrant upcoming politicians, to establish a political incubator to breed a new generation of leaders who will do things right, maintain high ethical standards and abhor greed, avarice, selfishness and impunity. Most of our national parties presently and in the past were put together with a false sense of national spread but majorly, irrespective of how they came to power, end up being inequitable and manifestly exists to serve the interests of a minority few and/or that of a tiny section of the country. I want to belong to a political party that will be able to publicly state its position on troubling national issues like, requests for self determination by a section of the country, resource control, federalism and Restructuring, Religious intolerance, atrocities of Fulani Herdsman, unequal standards in national university admission policy, and many more. Any political party that does not have an openly stated position or Stand on these issues is a mere association of elites coming together only to feather their own nests or at best a deceptive political contraption put together by a few to seize power for a few and for the benefit of a few. An official date of declaration by me and my numerous supporters in Ogun state will be announced shortly. https://mobile.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1903106706615819&id=1425109977748830&refid=17&_ft_=top_level_post_id.1903106706615819%3Atl_objid.1903106706615819%3Athid.1425109977748830%3A306061129499414%3A2%3A0%3A1501570799%3A-2634134513844578500 https://www.naij.com/1115647-breaking-doyin-okupe-joins-accord-party-dumping-pdp.html

Amala and Ewedu A food famous in the western region of the country, Amala and Ewedu is almost a staple on the menu of most Nigerian restaurants. While the soup is made with vegetable and spices, Amala is made with yam powder. They both form an appetizing combo, however, can be unfavorable to your stomach when consumed late in the night. Although the meal digests very easily, compared to other yam-based meals, it is urine inducing and can bring a lot of interruptions and discomfort to your sleep. https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/amala-ewedu.jpg Pepper soup A favorite Nigerian meal usually served with rice or yam as a side, pepper soup seems to be the perfect meal for times you are hungry at night as it is perceived as a light meal, but you may actually want to step away from it when you are craving something to eat late at night. The pepper soup contains certain spices and peppers that may upset your stomach and chemicals that can also stimulate your senses, making it hard to fall asleep. https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/plate-of-pepper-soup.jpg Agege Bread This would be easy to buy off of the streets if you getting back late and you know you would not have the energy to cook or microwave any major meal when you get home because it would be too late already. While Agege bread would be satisfying when eaten with tea, mayonnaise or butter late in the night, it contains a lot of carbohydrate and sugar that spikes up your blood sugar levels, causing your energy levels to spike and plummet, disrupting your sleep in the process. There is also a chance that you will likely wake up starving a few hours later or in the morning due to the overproduction of insulin the sugar triggers. https://d19lga30codh7.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Agege-bread.jpg Fries (yam, potatoes, akara) If you have had dinner by 7 pm and you are still awake by 12pm and you are hungry, you may want to indulge in light finger food. The go to would be fried yam, plantain , potatoes or even akara. While this food may seem like a light meal, they actually are not. They are greasy heavy foods! They weigh on your stomach and take a while to digest, leaving you feeling tired and sluggish in the morning. Also, they do more harm to your sleep than good. You may have to deal with stomach pains, cramps, abdominal bloating, heartburn, and acid reflux, resulting in poor sleep quality. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/55/7c/b5/557cb5a8f3c63090727009b133d1f6e5.jpg Ewa Agoyin A meal made of beans paired with a spicy sauce made with Palm oil and dried crushed chilies, Ewa agoyin is very tasty but a horrible option for late-night snacking or eating. Not only can it trigger heartburn, as well as upset your stomach, it can totally sabotage a day of good eating and actually keep you from going to sleep.
