Please help.

My husband just collected his CAS today and we are planning to apply for visa together next week when my (the dependant) POF will be matured, but another development came in.

I will have to be in Netherlands for a full sponsored master's program by end of August. So we are thinking my husband should just apply alone and I will be visiting him from Netherlands. My course is a year and his course is for two years. My plan is to be visiting him in the UK till I finish my program and join him permanently.

My question now is:
1. Is it possible to apply for uk dependant visa from the Netherlands as a Nigerian student?

2. If possible, can I apply next year or it must be this year, because of the ban?
Note: My husband admission is for September 2023 and the course RQF level 7.

3. When applying will I have to show POF in naira or Euro because the university will open an account for me there?

4. We did our TB test together earlier this month in Nigeria and I fill Nigeria as departure. Can I still use it or I have to do another TB test over there?

Please everyone, I would appreciate if you can assist with these questions.

Dear Family, please I need urgent help for my friend as I've never heard about nor experienced this.

So, my friend's daughter applied for her student visa to pursue her masters degree in the UK.

She did her first degree in the UK and just came home to apply for the visa for her masters.

She sent in the application and received an email that a TB certificate is required. She did not take the TB test because she came back to Nigeria from the UK a few weeks ago. Normally, she is not expected to take the test.

She went to the TB test centre and was told the test cannot be done without her original international passport.

Her international passport was submitted when she applied for the student visa.

Question: what can she do? Will she need to cancel her application and request for the return of her passport? (that is what I think but not sure)

I need advise please. My friend is so worried and we don't know what to do.

As you advised, I have gone ahead to book another test at another facility. Unfortunately, the earliest date I could get was 23rd August. In order not to put all my eggs in one basket, can my wife and children go ahead with their visa application and use the Proof of Funds that is already in my account, Is it doable? while I apply later after sorting the TB test issue out.

With tax thresholds frozen, there's a real fiscal drag and most people would invariably pay higher taxes. The question Zahra becomes, would you prefer the government increases taxes to fund the pay rise or would you rather black and brown immigrants pay?

The double taxation called IHS and visa fees may have increased with inflation... but an increase aimed at paying public sector workers higher wages has not been a matter of public discussion before. It's not like we never knew... it's just that there's now an acceptance of this fact.

I've chatted with a handful of Brits who drive without license (it's still illegal) but they say no one has even disturbed them.

Your international driving license is linked to your Nigerian License. If you do not have that, any international you do will be a fake! You'll need a photocopy of your license when applying.

Una don confuse me. Should I just do the normal Nigeria license or international license.
I read that one need to have local Nigeria license to be eligible to use international license in the UK. Current I don't have Nigeria license, but planning to do an international license.

What's the best way forward. The answer have been seeing regarding this question has not be straightforward.

I have a question for those that already have their Mortgage running. Did you all take Critical Illness and Life Insurance for your house? If yes how much is anyone paying ? One Mortagege adviser is quoting £140 per month for Critical Illness and Life Insurance and also said I cant back out once I take it.

I agree - it's the entitlement that I've been trying to address. The UK doesn't owe a student the right to stay on indefinitely because they made the free choice to come to Britain to study for their post graduate degree.

What about international undergraduates who spend a lot more time and money here? Shouldn't they be first in line? But they do not even have a PSW equivalent to enable them remain/work after their degree and they have never had the ability to bring in dependents.

Unfortunately I think from the number of dodgy posts on nairaland alone, that it's more than a few bad apples. Not just in Nigeria, imagine the same unscrupulous activities being done in India, Sri Lanka etc and you can see why it can look like the system is increasingly being abused.

It's not illegal to switch to cos, but when it becomes a trend, that people plan to pay a deposit or nominal amount just to get into the country and then quickly jump ship - then that's a misuse of the terms of their entry as they should really be applying for a work visa in the first instance. Once again it becomes a problem when it starts happening large scale.

In 2019, no of dependants was about 16,000. No one batted an eyelid. Few people even knew what dependents were lol as it was t
problem. Now it's probably around 200,000 which is the entire size of net migration pre brexit - on dependents alone!

Imagine you invite someone to stay over at yours with no restrictions, so they're there as a welcome and legal guest/resident. Then this person gets married and has 3 children. Now it's a family of 5 and your house is still the same size. They're still staying at yours legally right? But would you not have a problem with the new state of affairs and even complain that they are abusing your hospitality?

Yes it was back then between 2007 to 2009. There were a lot of underhand practices, people were using fictitious payslips and bank statements from Nigeria to meet the minimum financial requirement for the HSMP visa. Salaries from their UK jobs wasn’t sufficient for the requirement so, they would claim they were consulting in Naija and use forged payslips to meet up. It wasn’t just Nigerians that were involved though, Indians were equally as guilty.

it became an abuse of the education route when people started falsifying information fabricating pof and dependants e.g.fake marriages, fake children (I saw a post where a lady asked how she could bring her 9 yr old niece along to look after her children - isn't this what happened to Mo Farah? ) , Abandoning their studies as soon as they got a job and leaving the uni out of pocket....


A gov spokesperson said on the news that it has become apparent that the education route is now being used wholesale as a back door migration route by people who wouldn't otherwise be able to come into the country.
Unfortunately they are referring to the likes of Indians, Nigerians, sri Lanka

Let's not get overly emotional about this thing, many Nigerian's abused the dependent stuff. The number of sham marriages that happened will surprise you, the way people were adopting their neices and nephews is another one.

Worse still, the many content creators on social media and their numerous update played a role in the demonisation.

The whole process is confusing as there is a new site https://immigration.gov.ng for the Nigerian passport application as the other one https://portal.immigration.gov.ng was stopped on the 7th of May 2023.

There is a mandatory NIN field for baby.. which is surprising.

We had had this conversation here before and people were mentioning Croydon, Kent, Dartford, Cambridge etc. but those areas are not cheap!

Many are not looking for houses in London but Houses within a 90 minute drive from London yet even that is not cheap in decent areas
