virtue signalling is a bold action seemingly to support a good cause but in actuality, it's to show off how much more enlightened you are than everybody else.

Minemrys: i dnt get it. D0n't u guys read what i wr0te? I said 0nly method actors who are Brits can pull off a c0nvincing american accent and i made menti0n of christian bale and pattins0n. Adkins is n0t a method actor, he's m0stly a martial artist. It's n0t abt sounding american, it's being c0nvincing in it.
bro you don't need to be a method actor to pull off an american accent.
you don't even need to be a native english speaker to pull it off.
just hire a world class language coach and you're good to go.
even a life long mere exposure to american media can make someone that has never been to america affect a decent american accent.
stellan skygaard is a swedish actor but has been able to pull off american and english accents very well.
Minemrys: really? Then why does katie mcgrath [actress fr0m merlin] find it difficult using an american accent or henry cavill in his early acting roles. C0me on, every nigerian can mimic an american accent but it w0n't be c0nvincing.
hugh laurie, idris alba, jack o'connell, Christian bale, hugh grant, etc are brits that have done a variety of american accents convincingly.
hugh jackman, nicole kidman, mel gibson, etc are aussies that have done a variety of american accents convincingly.
Minemrys: then obviously, u d0n't have an ear for accents. Then you'd be c0nvinced of chiwetel ejiofor's fake nigerian accent in half of a yellow sun. Or thandie newt0n's accent's in that film.
bro you're forgetting one thing - america has several accents.
there is the texan accent, the new york city accent, long island accent, california accent, southern belle accent, mid western accent, new england accent, etc.
the brits tend to speak new england accent very well because of the similarities between the r.p (received pronunciation aka standard british english) and the new england accent, particularly the boston variation. both accents are non rhotic in the sense that both have silent "r" unlike the standard american accent and other regional american accents.
so while a brit speaking american accent may convince a new englander, a californian won't be.
so unless you're a linguist with a phd on american english regional accents, i respectfully call bullshit on the bolded.
Minemrys: bros, read what i wrote again. Adkins can't pull off a c0nvincing American accent. Take for instance christian bale, you'd be shocked to find out he isn't american. Brits find it hard maintaining an american accent unless method actors. Trust me, Adkins accent always shows. Just like Henry Cavill. Cavill's british accent always c0mes off when he's trying to act in a cool scene. The part that'll expose him is bruce wayne. Pulling off an accent is different fr0m being c0nvincing while speaking in it.
Yujin: This case isn't that of same kith n kin. In majority of Igboland, a community (town) is made up of aggregate villages having same ancestral origin and therefore, bear a singular name to unite them. While one may marry from another village within the same town, girls from his own village are out of bound for him. I've heard of this from a couple of my friends but doesn't exist in my own town. Everyone knows you can't marry from you kith and kin(kindred=umunna). I can marry from my village but surely not from my kindred in my village. There are other kindreds in my village. But some Igbo communities have it that you can't marry from your village as everyone is seeing as a kindred. Now to OP, it seems your community is one of such. Since she's from your village, why not ask her to consult her family and ask them if she's permitted to marry someone she loves from the same village. I expect her to return with the same answer. If that's the case, then they may not support the marriage even if you're willing to damn all consequences leaving you with only one option- eloping. If you're bouyant enough and is willing to risk all for this, then go on with it. As far as I see it, the divergence is so long now to warrant any biological problems. As long as she's not from your umunna, you're good to go. Eventually, you'll be a reference point to open up the way for others in your town. It is our unwillingness to challenge some traditions in Africa that has held us down. We're not evolving at all. You're certainly doing nothing wrong here despite what anyone wants to say. People are just scared not to ruffle the feathers of tradition. I believe that if you have some enlightened persons in your family, they'll support you. As long as she's not from your umunna and not maternally related to you(your mother and grandmother's family) you're good to go.
OP didn't explain it very well but i'm fairy certain he meant his umunna.
in igboland you can marry from your town/village but not from your kindred.
Imagine "When she left, my father asked me where she was from, and I told him and my father told me I can't marry her because she was from the same village with me "
See excuse!!!
So any body when come from same village with me na my sister or brother? All this Igbo people ehnnn
in every village/town in igboland, there are tiny villages known as clans.
families belonging to a common clan have a common ancestor and so are kith and kin.
the girl is his kith and kin and so therefore is related to him by blood.
marrying her will be an abominable.
maybe where you come from it's acceptable to marry your relations but in igboland it's a taboo.
kendrick93: I stopped reading at coming to America.....wtf dude!!! Coming to America 2 is one of the most anticipated movies, I wouldn't be suprised if that movie did over half a billion... It's got that black panther vibe, with a nice bit of promotion it will definitely be successful.... I'm sure you predicted bad boys for for life to flop too.....
thuga5: bro cos u didn't like it doesn't mean it was dry the show was very successful and never did suffer from low viewers. it got scrapped due to financial reasons. the station in charge of the seeker were in debt so they had to scrap some expensive tv show they aired, legend of the seeker was one of the expensive then and got scrapped. even after it was scrapped fans of the show clamoured for it on social media it was finally bought by Syfy bought due to poor scheduling it was finnay scrapped
bros, legend of the seeker wasn't particularly expensive.
every episode cost $1.5m to make. that's very cheap bro
the show was cancelled because TRIBUNE(the network airing it) decided that it was done buying the series due to bankruptcy and low viewing/low ratings.
ABC studios(the makers of the series) decided to shop it around after that, but syfy and others also ultimately passed on it.
hitch05: This post might contain spoilers so please be warned.
The Witcher basically used three different timelines to introduce the major characters. Yennifer had her timeline( the oldest timeline), the Witcher had his timeline ( the middle timeline) and cirilla had her timeline ( the newest timeline). Along the line the timelines start to merge until it completely merges at the end. Some other characters exist in all 3 timelines but at different ages( like calanthe the queen of cintra)
Hopefully the above makes it less confusing for people to watch.
hopefully season 2 will uncomplicate it and make the storytelling structured.
there's nothing i hate more than too many flashbacks.
it disrupts the flow and rhythm of a storytelling.
mekaprime: At the bolded, & how many people will be patient enough to finish the series? how many people will be willing to see it again so as to grasp the plot, Considering the fact that there are lots of other series out there which such individual might be following. This structure of theirs would have been ideal, if it were the only series produced in 2019, not when i have Watchmen & a whole list of series & movies all lined up, & you expect me to go back to my vomit all in the name of searching for a missing tooth, I'll rather pass. Again, the past events from episodes 2-7 didn't come as flashbacks, they came independently on their own without paying any homage or having a sort of reference point or link immediately with the present events, which IMO, makes it much more confusing. In series, first impression matters a lot. If you end up confusing your audience, many of em' wouldn't finish the series, taking myself as a case study, the first 2-3 episodes of a series are what determines if I'll continue or not(I had to finish this one cause of my MB) The whole series basically followed the format of a rubik cube puzzle, & rubik cube puzzles aren't ideal for fantasy series. They basically pushed too hard, & It seemed as though they were trying so hard to put up an intellectual stimulating fantasy series but ended up making a mess(strong word though).
abduleez1: No not contradicting. I'm stating my opinion based on numerous reviews I've seen online about the show. And mainly based on comments from the showrunner. Trying to merge The Game and The Books together in the show and the likelihood of trying to replace GoT.
netflix said from the onset that the witcher series will be adapted from the novels only.
so I don't know were you heard the showrunner talking about merging the novels and the games.
abduleez1: The is the most plausible review I've read about The Witcher on this thread.
Those reasons are mainly what I too think is the problem of the show and also the lesser focus on Cavill's character. Netflix trying to do too many things all at once. I haven't read the books or played the game but I understand your sentiments.
Now, time for me to head to the show. I haven't even started watching it yet.......
but how would you know when you haven't started watching it or are you psychic
the guy you quoted said what you wanted to hear, and in your haste to validate him, you ended up contradicting yourself.
Singapore1: that's because you are directly comparing it with the game when they are only interested in adapting the side missions ( for coin ) side missions is where the game adaptation ends ...
but of course i get your point
the show is adapted from the novels not the game. netflix said the event of the show precedes the event of the game.
