Mamdani has not said he will tell landlords what to charge. What he said he will and can do is freeze government owned social housing rent.

As for tax. I don't have a problem with the uber wealthy paying a couple percent more. It's not exactly gonna hurt a trillion dollar ceo much I don't think. But if they that greedy and selfish and don't wanna pay, they can bugger off to Iowa.

So what should happen to the cost that the govt impose n landlord through taxes an the increased insurance? That is why it will not work. If a landlord consistently makes losses, he will sell the house and other developers wont have the incentive to build more there creating a housing shortage and now increase of rents. And that's the point. Free money has stopped, so consumers can not pay rent that inflated during COVID, so the landlord has to reduce rent or no one will buy cars.

It's actually already happening in the housing market in fact. That prices are too high so no one is buying.

If you pay mortgage of $3000 per month and you rent to people at $3200 to get a $200 rent, When your mortgage increases t $3500 due to increase in Insurance property tax etc. How do you bring your rent down
