Christianity Etc › Re: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by budaatum:
LordReed:
Anything that removes agency from their god is anathema.
Its a sign of incomprehension, my Lord, as in, a simple misunderstanding of how to read and understand.

Ancient humans did not quite understand why things happen so filled the gap in their knowledge with "God done it", while most modern humans have adopted science, as in, the use of the senses, to question and explain things, which enables us to become like the gods who make things happen that we read about in books so we may learn and become like our gods.

Unfortunately, some humans are still stuck in ancient thought mode and fail to understand this fact. They would read Things Fall Apart then plan a trip to Umofia, and atheists, knowing no such place exists would claim no such place exists so Chinua is a liar who can't teach anything, while things obviously fall apart for the believing theist and atheist alike, as we see by the increase in non-believers

Perhaps see the book they read as the software that programs some, though I do admit many are very sloppy hardware who do not quite submit to proper programming since they find it difficult to be programmed to love their neighbours and their enemies moreso not to talk of not bearing false witness, but think the programming is to make them yell Lord Lord despite the warning that such people will end up gnashing their teeth.

A case of acknowledging the finger while disregarding the moon it points to, I say. We desire to believe, or disbelieve, instead of understand the underlying messages, and this despite it clearly being stated that the devil also believes and trembles, which ought to make one wonder that believing is not the point to take from their reading.

You got to wonder what we would be like without the Word. We'd likely be unevolved thoughtless muddy apes, though I must apologise to the apes since apes are not as thoughtless nor muddy as some humans.

I do love how [url=https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+13%3A11-12&version=NIV]Paul is written[/url] to have made the same point.

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child and I reasoned [and believed] - or in Paul's case, disbelieved - like a child. Then I evolved and became a reasoning human and put the ways of childhood [belief] behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror [and believe]; then we shall see face to face [and understand]. Now I know in part believe. Then, [after I have evolved and learnt to use my senses] I shall know [and understand] fully, even as I am fully known."

We too will evolve our ability to understand, I promise, as your yourself are a testament.

Most religious people know what indoctrination is and that it works.

So why won't they admit it happened to them?
One can not admit what one is ignorant of! And curing ignorance is not a simple case of indoctrinating with knowledge because......

Hmm! I ran out of knowledge there though Plato's cave springs to mind along with the crucifixion of Christ.

Can someone help me with reasons why curing ignorance is not a simple case of indoctrinating with knowledge? (Though, first, is it agreed that curing ignorance is not a simple case of indoctrinating with knowledge?)

Do note. The phrase "indoctrinating with knowledge" was very carefully and deliberately chosen because, mostly, its what we do on here when we challenge 'facts' with facts with the hope of displacing a belief for another belief, instead of an understanding of what is believed.

Indeed my dear buda. I hold him responsible for having his mind rotted by JW propaganda.
Lol. I guess I can't make you not blame JW for his mind. It's like Christ said I suppose, that by their fruits shall we know them, and if the fruit is rotten we humans will blame the tree it fell from.

I guess we hardly consider that one bad apple don't always make the whole bunch bad, but if too many apples are bad on a tree, its definitely time to start considering the tree's roots. However, and often though, the rot is local to the fruit itself, or might be on that branch alone.

I would not blame JW for the rot of his mind myself, as I've come across many JWs who don't have the sort of mind he has.

We must hold individuals responsible for their own rotted mind instead of blaming their gods because not all who yell Lord! Lord! truly follow their Lord.

If you are sure it's just one of those LIES, then stay cool, calm and forget about Maximus69 and his gibberish!

But do not ask what the Bible and JWs teaches about the subject! smiley
You have shown enough times that your understanding of the Bible is what JW tells you it is, Max, so don't make out the Bible teaches you anything when your teachers are the JW elders.

Jesus said you should not worry about tomorrow, [url=https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6%3A25-34&version=NIV]for tomorrow will worry about itself becsuse each day has enough trouble of its own.[/url]. Yet here you are with your tiny faith asking me to humble myself and become as faithless as you are and fear what will happen after my three score and ten!

Do know that henceforth, I will be taking your advice to "forget about Maximus69 and his gibberish. Future responses quoting you will be for the benefit of others.

I am surprised you would descend to the type of juvenality one usually finds with Olaadegbu, whom, come to think of it, I must now apologise to for not realising he too is a fear mongering Jw like you!

For your information, I have been to two funerals of dead JWs and they were just as dead as none JWs who's funerals I've been to, so this your "you will perish" lie does not scare me since I'm obviously slightly older than a two year old whom it might scare.

Maximus69:
LYING to others for a purpose at least makes sense because you do have a reason why you're doing it.

But lying to your own soul is disastrous!
So you are lying for your own selfish reasons, and that's ok because you don't think it destroys your soul?

You must have learnt this in JW school cos I'm sure you did not learn lying from Jesus!

Our leaders are mostly voted on religious or ethnic sentiment, and not by merit due to illiteracy and lack of information and the political space being already highjacked by cabals and political godfathers.
So, we, the electorate, ignorantly elect leaders that satisfy our "religious or ethnic sentiment, and not by merit", and we do this "due to illiteracy and lack of information", which is what allows "the political space to be "highjacked by cabals and political godfathers", and you disagree that education of the electorate, which reduces illiteracy and increases access to information so the electorate know to elect leaders who would help them solve the problems of unemployment, is the solution?

Our "individual efforts are too few" because too few are educated! And by education I mean acquisition of skills! You'd note this by seeing the difference in a skillful roadside mechanic and many graduates who have no skills whatsoever!

Below is my comment in a thread where an architect is concerned about grades and not the skills.

budaatum:
We do tend to focus on the grades and not on the skills. We then graduate with a 1st but with no skills at all!

There's good advise for you here. Your grades do not determine your know how, and its the know how that matters in what you've chosen to study. So just graft and get that degree and be judged by your fruits of your labour and not by your grades alone.

Thankfully indeed, not all JWs take stands like Maximus69 does, as my three doors away JW neighbour unlike Maximus69 calls and addresses me as brother. Lives in peace with me and everyone else. His missus supplies me with Watchtower publications. We occasionally share and respectfully have biblical discourses

Maximus69 you need to put on repeat that Franciscan brother, St. Francis of Assisi' inspiring and peaceful prayer made into a song, so you preach God, not by words only but start to, with made clear examples too.
My neighbour is Igbo as well as JW and nothing like Max who makes JWs sound like boko haram.

My opinion is that apartheid died a natural death that day when Jehovah's Witnesses (who are adherents of a religion) converged in one place with whites and blacks winning and dinning like one big and happy family of peace loving worshipers, in the same country where other religionists claiming worshipers of the same God failed woefully to treat members of their own religious organization as one family due to skin color!
And honestly speaking, you are very entitled to your opinion, but you might have problems when you insist your opinion must become the opinion of others especially when your opinion is not based on factual evidence, and when you refuse to live peacefully with those who don't share your opinion. And if everyone were like you, insisting everyone else adopt your opinion, I can't but wonder that you'd be creating hell, and not a place where the lions and the lambs dwell in peace.

All the same, I'll remember that you state your opinion, and not facts.

Oga I have the book, nowhere in it does Ehrman say the body missing from the grave is historically confirmed. In fact Ehrman posits in another book that the tales of Jesus' burial stories cannot be historically confirmed.

So question again since you say I am misquoting you, who is the secular historian that confirmed the crucifixion and the missing body?
My Lord, where do you find these people, or rather, why are they attracted to you huh

It has nothing to do with religion. In masturbating you are wasting energy on a non-productive venture.
