China is growing. They currently manufacture more than about the next six top manufacturing countries combined. So, we may be about to find out if they will enforce their will or not. But personally, I want Nigeria to be the top world superpower, because I don't we will impose our will on any country.

That's good enough for me. Because by the time they are in charge, you'd likely have learnt from past experience of those who were in charge and did do that not to let China do it to you. Or would you like to argue that China can come to your shores and buy you and put you in chains and take you to their country and make you work for free in the future sometimes because you wouldn't have learnt anything to do to not let them?

And China themself might have learnt from those who were in charge and did do that that it might not be the best and most profitable thing to do.

No, I've never drunk from a bottle with a snake in it and never will.

I was once offered tequila in Mexico City though, and was told the gold in it would make me goldy, and I failed to convince the foøl offering it that the gold colouring was either caramel coloring, sugar-based syrup, or oak extract added to unaged silver tequila.

What annoyed was being asked to pay above the odds for it, because it pretty much sounded like a babalawo asking for payment in advance for juju money instead of afterwards with the juju money.

I doubt I could be convinced a drink with a snake in it would immunize one to snake bites, but if anyone wants to prove me wrong ..........

I'm sorry to say, but I feel you need to hustle more, because there is this one book that many read that has written in it something about a curse of the sweat from ones brow, and I've found it's not a curse but the absolute irrefutable truth! And to be honest with you, you don't sound like you sweat at all but are asking heaven for manna while sitting in a shop staring at "recharge card and pure water" where area boys can see you.

I read, and still say "what is this man saying". And thankfully you mentioned UK, so no one can accuse me of being the one comparing to a portion called England.

You see, there used to be this feudal time in England when the Lord of where you lived said the land was his, and he took as tax a large portion of what you grew on the little patch he let you live on after you'd worked for him for tax on his very large land. When he fought wars he'd tax you for your sons whom you must kit in uniform and arms and his enemies might kill them. And you needed his permission when your daughters wanted to marry, and your daughter might have to spend the night before their wedding day in his castle as a form of tax payment. But don't ask me how that tax was paid. It was way before my time.

My point is, tax was not paid in England because you received something fair in return, but demanded of you because powerful rulers put their filthy paws in your pocket and on your sons and in your daughters and took what they want without giving you anything fair back in return.

Things didn't change much neither until eventually the people organised and rose up to fight for better rights and fairer taxation.

So, vote! That's how we organise today to elect leaders with smaller filthy paws they put in your pocket to steal your money they call tax! Voting is also what empowers you to demand that whatever money they do steal from you as tax is spent where it benefits you most so you are happy paying it, because some tax, unfortunately, must be paid.

And on that note, thank you very much for your thread because, well, tax!

I was home once starving because I was broke. Na so I go this mama put I de go go beg am for chop.

The mama look me, talk say, "na wetin chop you de chop. De talk like na one serious chop. Abeg, feed am", the mama told her girl, na so dem give me chop.

Thing was, I'd been going there for lunch every day to eat one ₦50 pounded yam and ₦50 ogunfe, and she always looked at me like I was starving myself, moreso when I finished and would take my plate to the plate washer instead of leaving it on the table for them to come clear it. I'd tried two ₦50 ogunfe once, but the thing just too big for my belle. Besides, my cousin staying with me at the time would come home and cook and be offended if I did not eat.

Next day, I went to mama and ordered my normal ₦50 pounded yam and ₦50 ogunfe and gave mama ₦500, say "please keep the change, thank you very much". And continued to do the same for the remaining four weeks till I returned home. And every time I went home for a while after that, I'd buy a gift from London for mama put who rejoiced like na she born me.

Unfortunately, last time I went, she was no more under the powerline on Ago Palace Road because government cleared her away, and I sadly never did find where my mama put had moved to.

The op specifically says As % of GDP, so that fact is not missed. In dollar terms however, you'd be correct.

Note that the figure for USA is only for the third quarter of 2025, while Switzerland's is a total for 2024, which shows the magnitude of difference.

Actually, HacheNoire and I are not arguing at all, since HacheNoire is the one that doesn't seem to know anything about consumer debt and household debt, and I try not to argue with those who know not of what they talk about.

Saying that though, I have already made an error in this thread, and wouldn't be surprised if others do too. So, and on that note:

Consumer debt refers to the outstanding balance of non-mortgage loans and credit utilized by individuals for personal, household, or family expenses, such as credit cards, auto loans, and student loans.

Household debt refers to the total outstanding money owed by individuals in a household to financial institutions, including mortgages, credit cards, student loans, and personal loans. It represents the combined financial liabilities of all adults in a home, often categorized into secured property debt and unsecured consumer credit.

The difference is subtle, but if you read my posts you'd note how the difference makes Switzerland the country with the highest household debt. Switzerland isn't necessarily the country with the highest consumer debt however, note.
