TIPS FOR SELF SPONSORING APPLICANTS

1. To self-sponsor, I believe a few years of working experience is a good to have.
2. Ensure you package your application to reflect everything that shows your employment history/progress
Employment letter, Promotion letter, Transfer Letter, Salary Increment Letter, Health plan, Retirement plan, Tax docs, Ref Letter from Employer etc
3. Do your best to generate a lot of activity in the account you intend to present, it is not only about the final balance; History, Transaction count, Turnover etc are equally important. You could have a 6 months plan on that.
4. Try as much as you can to reflect in your application how your wife would be financially sustained when you are away. If she is employed, make sure you reflect that with relevant document and if she is into business, you should be able to substantiate that with documentation if you can.
5. Ensure you add documentation of other near money (T-bills etc) and non-near money (particular emphasis to landed property even if the property is in Mowe forest ) assets to your documentation if any exists
6. This is the simple mathematics I recommend you use in determining a fair amount you want to state in your application and probably make available in your a/c.
Assumptions
a. You are not travelling with your spouse
b. Going for a one-yr, 3 term program
c. School fees is 5000 CAD per term
d. CAD exchanges for ₦160
e. Your total cost is on you (No scholarship, no free accommodation, etc.)
i. Cost of Tuition for the program = ₦2,400,000
ii. Living Expense
Accommodation = ₦768,000
Books and Supplies = ₦240,000
Food = ₦720,000
Others (transportation, entertainment, communication, others) = ₦720,000
iii. Round Trip Airfare = ₦350,000
iv. Then some extra jara
7. Spouse affidavits of support. To show spousal consent and home tie.
8. Your package should convincingly show you are not giving everything up ("self sponsor"wink to elope. Hence the need to properly establish your home ties.
9. Ask for God's favour and wisdom.

ebugirl: @all: I got ♍Ɣ visa today, make una help M̶̲̅ε̲̣̣̣̥ thank God.
The moment I came in here and saw the latest page had jump from 6 to 8 in one day, I knew something good had happened.
Ebugirl, my biggest congrats to you and the good God who has done this for you will do it for our other brothers and sisters awaiting an achievement such as this.

I guess the next thing on your burner are stuffs like

Arranging your documents for travel/academic/employment purposes in Canada
Preparing your budget
Arranging payment of your fees
Transferring money to Canada
Arranging accommodations
Making travel arrangements (comparing prices and booking)
Determining what to bring with you
Arranging transportation from airport to final destination
etc.

I have not totally crossed these hurdles myself, but the moment I do, I would lay it bare as usual for the benefit of all. It wouldn't also mind having our experienced friends share there thought on some of these issues too.

boxbonnie: Happy sunday peeps! Am Back!!
¶ chose to stay as an observer all this while after ¶ was heart broken **not wat u think** ¶ wasn't denied visa. Here is what happend: to does using "agents"
¶ went through an agent in june last year, handed all the neccesary doc, Paid him. 3 weeks latta he told ♏e my doc has gotten to CDHC for processing, that was b4 the extablishmnt of VAC. He den bragged on how he has helped sevral clients in the past 6yrs and how most of the V.O's are related to his mum..bla bla bla
¶ declared fasting and started bombarding the CDHC an V.O's with prayers.. 3 months latter, nothing happened..¶ declared another 14 days fast! Lol
5 months latta, no news. So ¶ went to the agent and he den made ♏e understand d reason for the delay as result to the large amounts of application the embassy received recently, and visa process time has been extended to 4-6months. ¶ regained hope, then ¶ saw BASHTEE's post on how his applictaion spent 8months and latta was granted trv..¶ got more hope and started firing prayers again bt dis time ¶ directed sum prayers to d agent...
To cut the long gospel short..¶ finally discoverd that my agent submitted my doc. To his wife who in return submitted it probably in their kitchen... It neva got to CDHC, after 7 months of bombardin cdhc with prayers..( Dem catch ♏e mugu) too late wen ¶ woke up.
D moral of this is: agents DONT guarantee visa. Dey only work with d information given.. U can as well do dat...
Please am back @ it again, am expectin my admission letter from the university of regina in a week time! ¶ need every1 hea to help ♏e this time around Oº°˚˚˚. Its for undergraduate.
Sorry oh, broda. This got me laughing grin cheesy grin. Dont worry, your time is here!

fflowers: Hello house, sorry 4 the delay, I'vee been very busy o. I got the parcel yesterday. I was instructed to go for my Medical. Also inclluded ΐϞ my parcel are to conditions.
1. Payment of one year tuition/Booard fees.
2. Original copy of my sponsor's birth certificate.

Thanks y'all

I've a lil problem y'all, my sponsor is ΐϞ australia αη∂ needs his birth cert for his PR. I'm so confused on what to do about that. Cos they actually noted that when asked for originalss, notoorrised copies aren't accepted. Thanks
Congrats on your parcel.

For your concern, I think you need to be very careful here. For them to have requested for the Originals of your sponsors' birth cert, then they must be interested in something in particular. Remember, those guys know fully well that you can always arrange a document in Nigeria but they made their request. It is not impossible they have some prior documentation about your sponsor that they want to compare your own documentation with. I wouldn't be happy to see you swallow the hook.

I have a friend whose sponsor did not release his financial documents to, instead the sponsor wrote the embassy that he would be available to fax his financials directly to the embassy for confidentiality purpose.Cutting story short, my friend is now in Canada.

I would advise you consult pros on this, also talk to sponsor. Your sponsor can make a photocopy of his/her original birth cert, support it with a letter stating why the originals would not be available now and probably also add other documentations like photocopies of his Intl Passport and other documentation relevant to proving his birth information.

Please, lets be wise and strategic. Cheers

Danyl: Danyl: @all,pls i want to ask dt wat docs can gv d cdhc,a strong proof of ur home ties
2. If as a prospectv student (though on a second undergraduate degree 2b added 2previous degree due to avn a prospectv higher degree dt combines d 2 eg computer sci. N biochemistry combined in orda 2study MPhil in bioinformatics/computational biology),u claim 2av a common law,bt ur parents r d ones to sponsor ur educatn in canada, can it affect ones applicatn or raise d probability of bn denied the trv...

@noswaa,bumdish, pls answer ds questn abeg:
1. Most times, a general answer might not apply to a specific case. Your age, family composition, employment history, educational history etc are some of the factors that could come into place in determining your proof of ties to your home country. Generally speaking, Marriage, Children, Study grant/Government scholarship, Landed properties, Pension plan, Age etc are areas you could exploit to prove your ties.

2. I would advise you ask yourself this question. Can a parent sponsor his/her married child for a second degree?
If your answer is Yes, then support your application with relevant documents good enough to change the mindset of a sceptic. Documents like affidavits/Letter of sponsorship clearly stating your parents capabilities and their interest/relevance to your plans coupled with how you intend to cater for your partner while you are away.
However, if your answer is a No or Not sure, you might want to start looking for another sponsor.

I hope I have added value to your questions

Being looking all around for part 3 for like forever.

@ All, thumbs up for the wonderful job and contributions so far,

@ Moderator, nice job you have done so far but subsequently I believe there could be some more graceful ways of closing a thread. Also, can this thread enjoy some form of publicity (may be an appearance on the home page) for a few days so that others could more easily locate it.

@ Awaiting Medical call-up, Keep monitoring the portal, keep checking your mails, keeping call VAC. My suspicion is that CDHC has relaxed after the April/May rush and well soon resume calling again later in June and fully in July. Remember Psalm 130:5-6 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.

@ Awaiting TRV after Medicals, This period is usually when one is most understandable anxious. Going by my personal statistics, 95% get their TRV after medicals, so what makes you think you wouldn't fall within the 95% band? Go and start checking out kijiji and wakanow joor.

We shall all get to our God's ordained destinies IJN.

blurap: I beg chairman pls which one is statement of purpose and is it compulsory to add the tax payment plan of sponsor ! Pla reply ASAP Giod bless ue ooo.

@umehmart, that is progress.

@Obamacare, Well . . . The tax clearance thingy falls under the Supporting Document Category. Any other document your consider an added to your application falls under this category hence your are still good to go even if you do not have any document under this category, so far you have all the required documents/criteria, authentic and well packaged. Over syllabus no dey pay at times.
I think the tax deduction information on ur pay slip is also a good indicator. Some companies also use tax consultants who could give you a memo/letter or something like that, which could also be used (Pls exercise restraint sha).

@ogbeche77,@mercylicious. I would further make issues clearer soonest.

For the benefit of those at the verge of submitting there application, I would like to quickly skip some pages in my writeup and list the documents I submitted for VISA application hoping it would provide direction for someone out there.
Broda/Sister, make una just dey try read something before you carry dey post na. Your exact question was answered in the same post you quoted. See lines in bold

For the benefit of all, especially those at various stages of application, I have posted a screen capture of the online tracking portal showing the various status at each stage of the visa application. I hope this would help calm some nerves, quench some curiosity and inform altogether.

Pix 1: You'll see this once you concluded that application submission process. The process includes document pre-scrutiny, fees payment and application submission

Obamacare: Thanks a bunch: Well I guess since am a guy I need not bother about my wife's consent letter or reference letter and the other stuffs. What do you think?
I strongly suggest you should consider supporting your application with does documents if you can lay your hands on them. Find below an highlight of a sample spousal supporting affidavits

1. That I am an Employee of 3SC football club at 10 Upper Iweka Road, Onitsha, Anambra since Dec, 1819

2. That I currently work in recruitment department of of the said company

3. That my wife/husband, Jay Jay Okocha has just been offered admission at Mushin High School, Ikoyi for a PhD programme in Garri Making.

4. That the said course is to commence in January 1999 and it would run for a period of 3 years.

5. That I would support my wife/husband emotionally (na joke oh) in the course of the 3 year programme.

6. That we have thirteen children with names . . . and there are my only dependant at the moment.

7. That this affidavit is for all record purposes.

8. That I depose to this Affidavit in good faith.

Please note that you might need to substantiate some of your claims in the affidavits with some form of supporting document
For example,
if you claim you have 13 children, you should also be able to provide 13 birth certs.
if your wife works in 3SC Football club, then you should be glad to provide the employment related documents.

I hope you get my drift. Just do your own best and leave the rest to God.

Cos i can see u have a ref num and in one of there(grad sch) reply, they said no decision yet, meaning they have ur profile. Pls clarify
I went ahead with my admission application even while no supervisor was not forthcoming.
Most school in canada usually have a portal you can log on to as an applicant to check your admission status.

Obamacare: True talk my bro…This list is quite exhaustive, I know, but it is not by that. Na make God help us all

Thanks for posting your success TIP that was quite generous of you. I have a few questions though based on your post.
1. Study Permit Questionnaire (Additional Sheet): I only saw one Study permit questionnaire on the CDHC website o. could I be wrong?
2. I only have offer of admission letter and NO acceptance letter. The other thing I have is receipt of payment.
3. Student Portal admission status page print-out. How do I get this one? I have no idea.
4. Official fee schedule print out. How do I go about this one? NO idea please.
5. I thought reference letter is supposed to be for you. But the one you posted is basically for one’s spouse. Please can you explain? Do I have to do all that? I mean
A notarized affidavit of support from spouse
Photocopy of spouse office ID card
Details of my spouse bank account for the past six months.
Reference letter from spouse employer
spouse pension plan statement print out
6. Did you submit only the photocopy of your ID card and not with the original?
Why am I being referred to as a BRO. Do I sound masculine?

1. "Please complete this questionnaire. If additional space is required add another sheet of paper." This is the first instruction on the Study permit questionnaire provided by CDHC. So you are allowed to add your own continuation sheet if the space provided isn't adequate for you.

2. The 5th grid on the checklist, clearly request you to include your Original Letter of Acceptance. This letter usually contains details like course title, duration of study, level of study, start date (multiple start dates, if applicable) ,latest possible date of admission and conditions of admission. For me, I received both the Admission letter and letter of admission from the 2 schools dat offered me admission. You might want to check your package again. A friend who is now in Canada actually used an email sent from the school stating does listed info. to substitute for the letter of acceptance cos im application was initially returned by CDHC for none inclusion of the Letter of Acceptance.
You might find something in your docs to represent this letter alongside your letter of admission.

3. Most school in canada usually have a portal you can log on to as an applicant to check your admission status. I guess including a print out of the page showing some useful information like your admission status and likes might not be a bad idea.

4. The 10th grid on the checklist requests to include an Official Fee Schedule which includes – tuition, accommodations and meal plans, miscellaneous expenses(medical insurance, books, memberships).. If you have that doc in ur admission kit, include it else you might need to source for it elsewhere (School's website might be ur destination of choice). Just ensure it is authoritative and verifiable.

5. Since I have a spouse, I tot I needed to show I have my spouse's support and consent that dere livelihood dey guaranteed since I would be away . Does documents show all that in my calculation

6. I submitted photocopy of my ID Card. You want them to think I am desperate ni? or that I am a lay-about at work ni or that I no even get job. If police catch me for road che I go tell them say my ID card dey ambassy? joor o. Take you time oh

gini: @ Bumdish: Please how did you obtain your statement of result from Unilag? Did you have to apply in person or did you use the Online form and sending to the mail boxes with the N2500 fee Teller?

I also would be glad to see a sample of Letter of support ffrom your spouse. My spouse is not my sponsor so I've been trying to draw up a letter of consent and support. Did you have to word the Affidavit of Support yourself or are their already made formats at the Courts (Ikeja Court 4 example) ?

Pls reply on the thread or add me on Yahoo Messenger @ giniks77 or BBM 27A0A57B (that's a zero in between the A's). Thanks.
I sent the filled downloadable form together with the scanned copy of the teller via email. You can call thier numbers for more info, does guys are quite efficient.

A lawyer friend drafted the Affidavits of Support on my spouse's behalf, I guess it is the normal format stating some basic details like the school you are attending, program of study, duration of the program, dependants, occupation, employment/employer details, income etc.

My spouse isn't my sponsor too, but the document at least clear alot of curiosity from the standpoint of the VO.

I would have loved to send you the exact copy I used but I am presently not in town.

Some notes about landed documents: The relevance of landed property can not be over emphasised as it buttress your ties to your home country (This is a key consideration). You do not need to have the perfect document (C of Os etc). Just ensure what ever you are submitting is authentic, verifiable, consistent and will not add another layer of complexity to your application. Here is what I mean, in my case, I used documents like hand writing receipt I obtained from the seller, I retrieved a copy of the scan image of the cheque leaf I issued way back to the seller from my bank, (if you have a utility bill (like PHCN etc) on the said property, include it).
