Saudi Arabia has sentenced a Palestinian poet to death for renouncing his Muslim faith.The execution order was handed down to Ashraf Fayadh, 35, by a judge on Tuesday, The Guardian reported. Adam Coogle, Middle East researcher for Human Rights Watch, told Reuters he had read the trial documents, which make it “very clear he has been sentenced to death for apostasy.”

Fayadh was arrested by the country’s religious police in 2013. In 2014, he was tried in court and sentenced to four years in prison and 800 lashes. But the verdict was appealed, and another judge handed Fayadh the death sentence. While Saudi Arabia is a major U.S. ally against violent Islamic extremists, its justice system is based on an extreme interpretation of Sharia law.

Fayadh’s conviction appears to be based on evidence from a witness for the prosecution who said he heard the poet cursing God, Islam’s Prophet Mohammad and Saudi Arabia, and on the contents of a poetry book he wrote in 2008, according to Reuters. Fayadh’s supporters say, however, the government is punishing him for publishing a video that shows the religious police, known as the mutaween, publicly lashing a man in the city of Abha, southeastern Saudi Arabia.

The poet was a leading figure in the country’s contemporary art scene and had curated shows in Jeddah and at the Venice Biennale before he was arrested, The Guardian said. His Instagram account, last updated more than two years ago, shows a man with a playful sense of humor, and a love for art, animals, sunsets and American music.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the on Friday disowned the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and his cohorts in their struggle for the state of Biafra. The Chairman, Forum of State Presidents of Ohanaeze in the seven Igbo –speaking states, in Awka, Dr. Chris Eluomunoh, said no right thinking person would support what he called the madness of the group .

He said:

“You will notice that Ohanaeze has been very silent on the issue of Biafra insurgency, though the youth wing of Ohanaeze has been speaking on it. Ohanaeze, as the Igbo cultural group, cannot support Biafra and we dissociate ourselves from it totally. “Igbo people have contributed much to the development of Nigeria and we cannot allow some people to jeopardise the lives and efforts of millions of Igbo residing in all parts of Nigeria.

“We believe that anybody who has any issue to settle with the Federal Government should use dialogue and that is why we participated in the last National Conference. No sane Igbo person would want to witness a repeat of the kind of thing that happened during the Civil War.

“(Chief Odumegwu) Ojukwu, who led the Biafra war, returned to Nigeria from exile and contested elections in Nigeria, which showed that he was fully integrated into Nigeria and was a full-fledged Nigerian before he died.” Eluemunor said that most of the agitation for a Biafran state came mainly from those living abroad.

These are not the best of times for popular Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu who recently packed out of her matrimonial home over allegation of infidelity on the part of her husband, Adeniyi Johnson. Few weeks after she left her husband’s house, the actress was said to have moved on with Ebony Film Boss and ex-lover Seun Egbegbe but the actress denied the romance.

In a recent interview, Toyin Aimakhu said she’s not dating Mr Egbegbe while the Ebony Film CEO confirmed their romance to another media outlet. In the wake of the conflicting interviews, Seun Egbegbe who is reportedly funding Toyin Aimakhu’s lavish lifestyle and her movies was said to have challenged her on why she’s denying their romance openly, this soon generated a hot argument.

At a point, Toyin raised her voice on him, telling him that she couldn’t grant his request because she just quit her marriage and that people might not see their romance in a good light if they sensed she has quickly rushed into another relationship.

This was said to have infuriated Seun who allegedly hit her and beat her to a pulp. Few hours after they both left the ‘boxing ring’, Toyin packed a few of her belongings and hit Ibadan where her family resides to console herself of the attack and of course from those prying her.

Scores of topless women took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro to protest sexual violence and victim blaming as part of a “SlutWalk” event. The half-naked participants of all ages with slogans written on their bodies and banners in their hands marched through the streets of the busy city. They were wearing sexy lingerie such as short skirts, stockings, scanty tops and high heels to protest against excusing rape by referring to any aspect of a woman’s appearance.

The “SlutWalk” rallies began in Canada four years ago after a Toronto police officer suggested that “women should avoid dressing like sluts” as a precaution against sexual assault. Subsequent rallies have occurred globally, with thousands of women willing to show that they own their bodies and have freedom of choice. One of such marchs was covered by journalists at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beachfront in Brazil.

Stephanie Ruas, a 26-year-old protester, said: “We may face violence anywhere. At school, as a young girl, at work – that’s the culture. Brazil is one of the worst places for a woman to travel alone. When I travel I bring a special door jam so that my hotel room cannot be opened.” Indara Costa, who is only eighteen, added: “Men in Brazil think we are objects. We want to be able to do what we want with our bodies without being harassed.”

Toke Makinwa has been asked to stop wearing trashy outfits in public by Pulse Nigeria readers. The call came after the popular On Air Personality narrowly escaped a major wardrobe malfunction as she arrived the 2015 AFRIFF Gala night red carpet on November 14 in a risqué outfit by Chidinma Obairi.

In a video obtained by Pulse TV, the 31-year-old threatened to give the camera more than an eyeful as her lovely but revealing dress almost couldn't cover her body anymore.

In a poll conducted by Pulse.ng, 58.1% say the media personality's dress was trashy and should never wear it again. 30.5% said Toke's dress was just meant to seek attention while only 11.4% believed she actually looked super sexy in that hot dress!

A middle-aged woman Grace Monday, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly torturing her three-year-old niece, Miracle Peter, to a state of coma for defecating in the house instead of her potty.

According to the report carried in the Punch, Monday, who is from Kaduna State, has been married for several years without a child, and had gone to her hometown to bring the child who is her brother's daughter to stay with her at her Ireodun, Agege residence, in July of this year and since then, has been in the habit of maltreating her especially as she was not properly trained on the use of her potty.

Monday too, on her part, did not train the girl on how to use the potty and anytime the girl defecated, she would beat her severely and on such occasion, she reportedly tortured the girl and slammed her head against a wall, which caused the toddler to become unconscious.

The girl was rushed to a private hospital and was later referred to a general hospital in the state after three days as her situation did not improve. Her neighbours later reported the case to the police at the Isokoko Police Division, and Monday was arrested. Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has condemned the recent protests for Biafra, describing the action as evil. Fr. Mbaka made the condemnation on Saturday in Enugu during a sermon at his weekly Adoration Ministry where he urged youths in the South East and South-South to go back to their homes and businesses as the protest could lead to their death.

According to NAN, he said:

“Locking up your shops and disrupting economic activities will not add any naira to your pocket, whatever grievance you have could be resolved through dialogue,” the cleric said.

He also lashed out at leaders that were behind the protests, saying they should use their own children for the struggle not the public. Fr. Mbaka commended President Muhammadu Buhari's appointment of ministers from the zone and assigning them with good positions.

“President Buhari’s action has proven that the South-East has not been marginalised. I would have reacted if no minister emerged from the zone,” he said. He blamed Igbo leaders for the bad infrastructures in the regions. Nigerian rap artiste, Naeto C, popularly nick-named ‘White Kaftan’, has revealed how he felt when his song, ‘Tony Montana’ was banned, and said he stopped ‘sagging’ when he ‘grew up’. Speaking recently with Punch, the ‘Ringtone’ crooner said he didn’t see any sense in the ban because they had to wait for three years before placing the ban. According to him, ‘the board was late.’

It will be recalled that the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, NBC, earlier this year, placed a ban on his music video, ‘Tony Montana.’ Naeto said, “I felt the board was very late in banning the song because I released that song in 2012 and it was banned in 2015.

“Also, in the video, there was a disclaimer that no one should try the stunts we did in the video and if they had seen the music video, they would have seen the disclaimer. If they are going to ban the music video because we used guns in it, then they should ban movies with guns and occult scenes,” the singer added.

“However, that is our reality,” he continued, saying, “I don’t think we communicated anything in a distasteful manner neither did we communicate the wrong message to kids. I have two kids and naturally when you have kids, you think about other kids in whatever you do.

“I respect the organisation and I would not talk down on it but I don’t think there was any sense in it; it was not necessary to ban the video,” he noted. Responding to why he stopped ‘sagging’, he said, “Yeah, I used to sag a lot. I think I grew up and realised it looked stupid.

“When I was a younger artiste, I did not care much about my image. But now that I am grown, I pay attention to my image because the people I perform for are my clients. “My client is a mature person who obviously can afford my services. You don’t want your client to see you as irresponsible because tomorrow, when you go to the same client for a business proposition, he would not take you seriously if you are sagging.

Former Governor of Edo State, Mr. Lucky Igbinedion, has asked Governor Adams Oshiomhole to explain to the people of Edo how he allegedly squandered trillions of Federal Allocations and Internal Generated Revenue he collected in the last seven years. The ex-governor dismissed a statement credited to Oshiomhole that it took seven years for him (the governor) to speak out on the purportedly illegalities perpetrated by him while in office.

In a statement he personally signed in Abuja on Satuday, Igbinedion promised to expose his successor at the appropriate time. The Edo State Government had on Wednesday said it had begun moves to recover $31m allegedly “fraudulently taken” from the government coffers, during Igbinedion’s administration.

Oshiomhole also vowed to publish records of fraud allegedly perpetrated by the ex-governor, adding that he would forward all the files containing the alleged fraud to Abuja this week for prosecution. Oshiomhole had also accused the ex-governor and his father, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, of allegedly converting government properties and funds meant for the people of the state to private use.

The governor had said his feud with the Igbinedion family started when he revoked the over 200,000 hectares of government land, which the former governor allegedly gave to his father in Okada, as well as the termination of the Memorandum of Understanding the ex-governor allegedly signed with his father.

The MoU, Oshiomhole alleged, was to allow “the medical students in Igbinedion University to use our state-owned hospital at the expense of the Edo State Government while Chief Igbinedion collects N1m from each medical student.”

Igbinedion, however, said records of activities during his tenure were open to the public.

He said, “I have made it very clear time without numbers that the files of my tenure are there for everybody who cares to ask to check. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered a suspected drug trafficking cartel at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu state.

According to a statement issued on Friday, November 13, by Mitchel Ofoyeju, the agency’s spokesperson in Lagos, two officers of the NDLEA, Daniel Goska and Ndubuisi Ughor, who are indicted and currently at large, have been dismissed and declared wanted.

“Other suspected members of the group include Ifeanyichukwu Dayson, a key member of the drug trafficking organisation, and Emmanuel Okorie an Operations manager with Ethiopian Airline,” the statement read.

Among the suspects there were Henry Amaechi, a supervisor in Passenger Service Department of Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, and Jacob Ezeugwu, a ticket and baggage staff at the airport.

The statement quoted Ahmadu Giade, the chairman of the NDLEA, who described the mode of operation of the drug cartel as strange. He also promised to adhere to global best practice in drug control in Nigeria.

“No bad egg in the agency will escape justice. Notwithstanding the strange way the cartel operates, I am pleased that it was exposed and ultimately dislodged.

“The agency will continue to adopt superior drug control strategies in line with global best practice. Players of the German national football team were this morning (Friday, November 13) evacuated from their hotel in Paris due to a bomb threat. The Germany National Team are staying at the Molitor Hotel in Paris ahead of the international friendly with France.

An anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat at 9:50 am on Friday morning and police evacuated the players. “There was a threat and the hotel has been evacuated and cordoned off,” Germany's business manager, Oliver Bierhoff told Germany's Express newspaper.
