Education / Re: UNILAG Will Only Admit 8,000 Out Of 32,000 Applicants - VC by Businessideas: 10:27am On Nov 10, 2017 |
jstbeinhonest:Does UI do exams or evaluation screening? And why are you forgetting or ignoring the fact that UNILAG is the only school that has for years insisted on One sitting while other schools like UI accommodate multiple sittings and combination of O'LEVEL results. It's so funny that you still think 40% score is enough to guarantee you admission in UNILAG.My advice for you is to experience the battle of survival in getting admission in UNILAG first and you will know why for years,it had been the university of first choice.F or decades, more candidates in Nigeria prefer to attend UNILAG than any other schools including UI sir The carrying capacity of university is not fixed sir.As we speak right now,Faculty of Pharmacy of UI has lost its accreditation and have their capacity reduced and UI has a lower admission ratio for undergraduate than the 40:60 UNILAG has adopted. 1 Like |

ibadanfinest:You may be right especially if you are quoting from Jamb brochure but if you had attended UNILAG,especially, Faculty of Engineering, you will understand that your five credits without Further Maths will not get you admitted sir. The other schools like UI and Ife you mentioned, have for decades, had lower admission criteria like accepting two sittings of O'LEVEL and even lower cutoff marks than UNILAG and I wondered how you think 8,000 is still lower than its carrying capacity when you don't have your fact and the school management that has the fact had stated in actual fact the school has even reduced it's admission ratio in favor of Post Graduate. For ages,UNILAG has always maintained the highest criteria for admission so the outgoing university is just continuing with the tradition of the school. And for the 40% , that is standard university lowest pass score. In admission process,it is not the only requirement but it just gets you to be considered for merit list so a candidate targeting 40% or who scored 40% may not eventually be admitted. That is what the VC is saying in coded words sir 3 Likes |

See levels! UNILAG remains the University of First Choice and the nation's pride. Only UNILAG can do this. These are candidates with 6 credits in O'level at ONE sitting and scored above 200 yet some universities admit failed jamb candidates with less than 150,accept candidates with 5 credits at two sittings yet wondered why their school product are inferior and substandard graduates. Only UNILAG maintains the highest criteria for admission of 6 credits at single sitting yet 32,000 candidates still qualified because the school raised it's bar of admission. Only the best of the best is good enough for UNILAG to continue in its tradition of excellence. That's why some people beef UNILAG for life. 3 Likes |

This had been a standard practice in some faculties like Faculty of Pharmacy in that same UNILAG for decades so I don't see the fuzz. They are just seeing what others have been facing for decades. Good one from the faculty of Law 1 Like |

PVision2020: This list is incomplete without Oodua groups Wemabod, UAC properties and LSDPC. I just shake my head when people think that the Yorubas will leave the development of their land to other tribes,it is even culturally discouraged in the Yoruba culture because it is the way you place premium on your properties that would make others value your property. If other tribes are coming up with more stake in Lagos,it is a good thing and it is to the credit of the Yoruba too. God bless Nigeria. 22 Likes 3 Shares |

Health / Re: Crisis Looms In Health Sector As NMA Moves To Stop FG/JOHESU Agreement by Businessideas: 5:05am On Oct 03, 2017 |
I remember reading somewhere that the late Professor Olikoye Ransome-Kuti was warned against transferring the management of hospitals to the hands of doctors but he ignored the warnings now the old man is gone but the problem created by the political decision has held down the nation's health sector down. The current government should be courageous enough to go back to how the health sector was running even so excellent at some point in time that our health sector was leading centres among the Commonwealth nations. Clearly, given the patriotism of late Professor Kuti,he underestimated the problem his decision to empower his medical doctor colleagues to the detriment of other health care professionals was a huge disservice to the nation. |

Politics / Re: IPOB Commends Afenifere, Yoruba Elders Council & Others by Businessideas: 12:53am On Sep 26, 2017 |
Eeyah. Unfortunately,it is too late for the young men of Ipob to make amends, they destroyed the improved relationship of the Igbo with other ethnic groups their elders have used decades to build even after the civil war.. The lesson is that,it is easy to destroy but to build is a lot of hardwork. The afenifere know that open association with an organization that preached hate against it's own people ,leaders (even neutral religious leaders of the Yoruba extraction like Pastors Adeboye,D. K Kumuyi etc weren't spared by the ipob director who insulted them and the videos of him insulting them are all over the internet and he is yet to even apologize to the Yoruba and their leaders he insulted.)and it took the gazetting of the group as a terrorist group by the Federal Government to make the group stop it's insult of other tribes. Even Afenifere know that the ipob is a group notoriously known and seen by most Yoruba as anti-Yoruba, so romancing the group publicly is a political suicide and this ipob end time 'appreciation' is a poisoned chalice.Even the substance in the name 'afenifere' will be defeated by their association with ipob. Government has an official basis to arrest anybody associating with ipob so associating with ipob that is officially a terrorist group, right now ,is very very risky. 2 Likes 1 Share |

BossBallz:Hahaha. I appreciate your pleasant sense of humor. Thanks. I didn't say pharmacy for the fun of it, if you really want to have interaction with patients, then pharmacy offers you more chances than those two.In the last job evaluation done around 2012 or so by during the Prof Lambo led ministry of health under Ex President Obasanjo regime, the panel to the amazement of all, discovered that about 90% of all patients who visit the hospital take pharmaceutical services and if you are now lucky to have a community pharmacy, you even have a greater opportunity to work with patients and public health.Let me give you an example,if you have head ache now,ask yourself sincerely, will you visit the hospital first or visit a community pharmacy? Now if you have an exam tomorrow and you have a toothache or joint pain, will you visit the dentist first for your toothache or the pharmacy and if it's joint pain, will you look for a physiotherapist? From my findings, admission into Pharmacy is equally more competitive than those two courses and the rigor of the study is more especially if you are not very good in your calculations(Maths and Physics) so the stake is higher for pharmacy and if you can get your longleg into their faculty,it is better.Dentistry and Physiotherapy are very good courses and rewarding especially if you want to practice outside Nigeria 2 Likes |

Hahaha. Lucky you,you are definitely one of those highly connected candidates . Both are good but have less job prospects in Nigeria's healthcare industryand if you were to have a third option,In my opinion,I would rather you go for pharmacy if you have the connection for admission in faculty of pharmacy's Pharm.D program |

Thanks my governor. Your write-up is truly random thoughts and convincingly original.I love the reference to data and coming from the governor, these should be very reliable data. He didn't say much about Agriculture and electricity. I am pleasantly impressed that he "reads and listens but may not often respond" to avoid distraction from the tasks he has prioritized. I would have loved him to indulge us on the kinds of books he reads so we can have insights to the books that feeds his intellectual consciousness like his predecessor who goes about even with books in his official car. He seems not to admit that the population of the bicameral legislature itself is a major stumbling block to the devolution of power and fiscal federalism he yearns for and suggesting practical ways to reduce the overbloated legislature should be on his mind too, even in private. In conclusion,I believe that regardless of his concern about the slow progress of other states of the federation,he should remain steadfast in delivering on his tasks and courageously take this campaign for probity and sincerity in governance to his governor colleagues while leading them by example, surely one day, some of these states, will have their own Tinubu,Fashola and Ambode uninterrupted progressive reign. keandre: keandre:Yes,UNILAG is very highly rated and in the league of schools in Nigeria,it never leaves No 1 or No.2 in universities ranking even by NUC. Aside from that, the school is highly rated by employers of labour. Even in NYSC camp and job recruitment centers, people, and even you, will immediately give one kind of respect and attention to a UNILAG graduate making them the envy of other graduates. Finally, unlike your ABSU, UNILAG accepts 6 O'level credit passes at not more than ONE sitting, further maths is compulsory for Engineering courses (only school in Nigeria that observe these unusually high criteria) and admits only students with 200 and above in UTME score and only attends to candidates that makes it their first choice. Now,sincerely ask yourself, can you merit admission in UNILAG and why should an employer ignore a graduate that met these high standards for admission and eventually graduated over someone who attends a school like ABSU that admits candidates with 30% failure mark in UTME,has two sittings to make 5 O'level credit passes and has an overbloated carrying capacity of students due to ridiculously low admission and academic standards. Let's not even mention cultism and sales of handout by lazy poorly motivated academic staff which is unfortunately rife in schools like ABSU. What about alumni? You know that ABSU will struggle to be recognized locally and internationally for obvious reasons while schools like UNILAG have their alumni who have been excelling globally for decades. The Sterling excellence being celebrated in Prof Osibanjo was inculcated in him in UNILAG where he didn't only attend but equally lectured, a clear departure from our former president who had a PhD from another low standard university in Port Harcourt.Little wonder, nobody is questioning the phd of Prof Osibanjo. I believe with these few points I have educated you. |
