Answer: Russia theoretically has 900,000 soldiers. In reality probably 700,000. Russia is also the largest country in the world. It needs to keep a military presence in many places stretching over 7 time zones.

Russia is also engaged in other theatres in the world.

Russia has an estimated available fighting force of about 200,000 soldiers. 170,000 of them are currently deployed in Ukraine. Of these approx. 7,000 have been killed, twice as many wounded.

Hence, Putin is recruiting Syrian ex ISIS fighters.......he is trying to get the Belarus Army to engage.....!

The fact that Russian Army are unable to gain access to Kyiv or overrun Ukrainian army after 5days of fighting speaks volumes.
Putin and his large and well equipped Russian Army thought they would overcome Ukraine in one day. It was unexpected that Ukraine army would battle the Russian Army almost to a stand still.
If not for anything, I commend Ukrainians for unwavering bravery.
They all stood in unison to fight Russians.
Imagine Russians seeking support from Belarus to fight Ukraine.
