Your conclusions are flawed, you forgot to mention those who had chances to travel abroad but instead thought their chances will be more enhanced here hence they chose to stay in naija.
This group have serious self belief and confidence in their survival abilities, this is the group I belong in.
the beauty of the internet is that anyone can come on here and claim to be a successful, multi talented whizz kid, its great because the internet provides escapism.  However on the other hand it can create unwarranted delusions of grandeur in the minds of certain individuals - i beleive that you are suffering from delusions of grandeur, in your delusional state you have actually convinced yourself that you had the opportunity to leave nigeria but chose not to - the truth is bitter my friend but it keeps you in touch with reality.  If you had serious self beleif as you call it you would not have spent hours on here trying to convince people that you are happy and content within that gangster run hell hole you call nigeria, lets face it you are in nigeria because you have no other choice, like i said the truth is bitter but try facing up to it once in a while - you will do yourself a big favour.

You also mention that you have good survival abilities - NEWSFLASH!!!!! - animals who live in the wild survive - human beings LIVE okay, it is the right of every human being on the planet to live with dignity and humanity by being able to have access  to food, shelter and employment - those are basics NOT luxuries but i can see that you have been conditioned to beleive that even having one of those things is a luxury - this is why i said earlier that IBB destroyed  the future of every young nigerian by cutting public expenditure on education, what you have now are semi illiterates like yourself who do not know their left from their right.

I am not under any illusions as to what nigeria is all about - i am aware that the place is a complete mess and needs a total overhaul all the way from the bottom up to the top, but if we stay here and just talk about change who is going to implement it.

In my own case i have the choice to live in nigeria or live outside, i have chosen to make the move back to nigeria because i realise that europe and america are not really designed for the progress of non white people in general.

this is so difficult to watch - i dont know which is worse - the woman behaving like a deranged animal or the callous disregard of the policemen.

nigerian society is a complete mess, if human beings are reduced to this sort of behaviour then there is no hope, we definitely need a complete overhaul of our behaviour, mentality and attitude.  I  dont dispute the fact that she was beaten by the police but her reaction makes it very difficult for anyone to sympathise with her, all the grandstanding, shouting, and blowing of hot air makes her look even worse than her tormentors, i think if she had simply conducted herself with more dignity it woudl have been easier to sympathise with her. Instead of feeling sorry for her you just get side tracked into wondering how any human being can behave in such a grossly violent and aggressive manner.    Perhaps this is how women are forced to behave in nigeria in order to get any form of respect.

I really fear for how nigeria will become if there is a complete breakdown in society - it will be unmitigated anarchy on both sides (civilian and police, army and other govt agents of repression).

The police in nigeria are agents of repression they have been terrorising nigerian citizens for years and they have been allowed to get away with it, i just wonder how long nigeria will go on like this before it collapses into complete anarchy.

Well that information is totally irrelevant to the discussion Just imagine what you are saying. That a grown man who receives food stamps from the government is better off than those who rely on the extended family network. Are we in fact comparing formal government welfare systems in the 2 countries??
And who in fact told you that this welfare package is not of strictly limited duration after which the recipient is expected to fend for himself?
no its completely relevant to the discussion, some delusional individuals are claiming that they would rather be unemployed and even homeless on the streets of lagos rather than homeless and unemployed in america.
A  grown man who receives food stamps from the govt is a man with food in his stomach who doesnt have to go a begging!!! perhaps you're one of the lucky ones who have reliable , kind hearted relatives, that can not be said of everyone, the welfare system takes away the uncertainty of not knowing where your next meal will come from and i know i would prefer to apply for food stamps than place my self at the mercy of relatives who may or may not decide to help.

Your argument makes no sense - so what if its only for a limited time - the idea is not to create dependency but to provide a TEMPORARY MEANS OF SUPPORT until you can get back on your feet.  Isnt that better than not knowing where your next meal with come from the minute you loose your job or you exhaust all your savings?

How would you feel if your brother lost his job tomorrow and had to camp out in your house with his wife and kids because he had no money for food or rent? Wouldnt you prefer it if he could apply for social security benefits to tide him over until he could get back on to his feet.?
Some people just enjoy defending the indefensible!!!!!

is that all you got ? cuz i will pull up a million storys in america worse than that.
in america there is a safety net, there is welfare, there is medicaid, last time i checked nigeria couldnt even provide proper health care facilities for its citizens who pay for the service  so don't even go there.

Also in america, there are so many charities, churches, not for profit groups who actually help poor and vulnerable people, the other day i watched a documentary about a town in california (fresno) where an overwhelming majority of its inhabitants are substance abusers they were using a drug called crystal meth - a cheap drug which can be bought for just $10 which gives you a temporary high and escape from your problems - but you should see the support services in place to help these people, even to the extent that many were given help and advice on how to wean themselves off the drug, now i know that nigeria should not be compared to america as both countries are light years apart but  you are saying you would rather be poor in nigeria which is a ruthless, society where its every man to himself whereas with america despite its emphasis on materialism, selfishness and individuality it STILL provides a safety net for the weak and vulnerable.

True that. In fact England is  a country of immigrants and will always be so.
England is originally a country of immigrants that is true - but were those immigrants black or white people?

As at the date of the last census england's white population was 87%!!! with the remaning 13% made up of asians, blacks, mixed race and other groups - africans only constitute 1.4% of the 13%.

grin grin grin like i said, if you are black british ? you cannot be deported. then they will have to deport all the white south africans back to britain, all the white americans back to britain, etc etc. it just does not work like that. but what they can do is enact a new law saying that no matter if you were born in britain or not ? so long as you are the children of immigrants, you will never be british. thats the only thing they can do now.
You see in making the above statement you have overlooked one very important factor, the whites have the power while we have none, in as much as the mass repatriation of blacks back to africa will destroy the image of the west in the eyes of the rest of the world it would be  completely foolhardy of you to think that it is not possible.  White south africans unlike black immigrants in britain control the economy and dare i say the politics of south africa, who owns the mining industries - ever heard of Anglo American, De Beers, how about Sanlam - these are some of the most powerful corporations in south africa and they are all run by whites not the ANC.

Since the whites still retain their position of power in south africa who is going to have them repartriated back to england?

You then mention the whites in america - who told you that america and england see themselves as separate countries? have you not heard of the "special relationship" which exists between england and america? Also in political circles the british and americans usually operate as what is known as the anglo american alliance therefore all benefits arising from this relationship are extended to citizens of both countries.  Blacks of both countries however are regarded as citizens only in name.

Since you think that repatriation of blacks is impossible are you aware that west indians were "offered" the opportunity to exchange their citizenship with nationals of hong kong during margaret thatcher's regime, she saw the people of hong kong as being of more use to the british economy than the children of west indian immigrants who she felt would be better off back in the west indies.

So before you get too complacent try and remember where you are and the history of immigration and race in this country.

bruv, if they look at you and still think you are an immigrant ? bruv you need to make some changes. first off, dietary changes. stay away from nigerian food. eat lots of raw foods. drink only juice. no soda. do some exercise. then change your dress sense. grin thank me later. its all about 'perceptions'
hmm interesting - so is there something wrong with looking "african" then - are you ashamed of your african roots? - from your response it appears as if you do not want to be identified as an african, so you dont eat african food and you dress in a certain way so as not to be mistaken for an african - wow your response says a lot about what you think of your race and your fellow africans another self hating house negro is what we have here!!!!

if i needed  your advice which thankfully i dont i would say to you that yes, i do not eat starchy food and yes i exercise regularly as i  jog three times a week in the park, im also teetotal in addition i do not eat red meat but that is not the point.  If you still havent understood that discrimination is based on skin colour and not aesthetics then i think you have a very long way to go.  What i am talking about here goes beyond physical appearance its about the politics of race, certain races are perceived in a particular light - africans are seen as backward and primitive - this is not  helped by the negative images projected of us in the media, jamaicans are portrayed as ignorant and violent, chinese are portrayed as hardworking and intelligent, germans are portrayed as intelligent and innovative, these labels are media creations but they wreak havoc on our collective images.

If i am to go along with your view point then that would mean that the reason most blacks suffer high unemployment rates in europe and america is because we  simply do not look good enough. And unlike our white counterparts who are much more asethetically pleasing to the eye given that the majority of them are slim, clear skinned and drop dead gorgeous we should not expect to be allowed into certain jobs until we get our act together and start to make ourselves much more pleasing and presentable to the european eye!!!!

I have heard it all on NL. huh huh huh huh

Let me try and clarify this so you understand "immigrant" is a label attached to every non white person who lives in the west, it is a way for whites to make a distinction between those whom they think are worthy of equal treatment and those who they think should be denied equal treatment irrespective of where they were born or which passport they carry - comprendehuh

dude lets not get too dramatic. the generation of african and jamaican british is steeped deep in british history. blacks have been in britain since the 1500s. now what may happen will be a backlash against immigrants but not citizens. how can you tell ? mannerisms, clothing style, accent etc etc
you can tell by the colour of the person's skin, when i go for job interviews as soon as they see that i am black they automatically conclude that i am an immigrant despite the fact that i was born in the UK, therefore identity as far as whites are concerned is not based on where you were born or which passport you carry but on the colour of your skin.  Even after you have opened your mouth and they discover that you speak like them they STILL do not treat you as one of them, i have experienced this countless times, a white south african, a new zealander (white of course) a zimbabwean (white) an american (white) are all accorded preferential treatment over and above all blacks - be they jamaicans, african americans, nigerians, the common denominator here is the fact that our skin is black so please dont delude yourself into thinking that you are accepted because you carry a UK passport or speak and behave like them.

debosky:
And where do you think this is demonstrated the most? You got it - where MOST Nigerians are resident - in Nigeria.]
Debosky thanks for your responses.  I posed this question because i believe the day is at hand when we (immigrants) will no longer be welcome in this country, infact let me rephrase that - we are currently not welcome here but it is only the law which prevents us from being attacked in the streets by whites who do not want us here.

At the moment the law prevents most racists from expressing openly what they feel deep down inside. my question is what will we do if we are forced to go home, is that the time when it will dawn on us to actually do something to change things in nigeria, remember the israelis did not actually leave europe in large numbers until hitler's rise to power, it was only after the persecution of jews that you had mass movements of jews from europe back to israel.  And to Justwise who referred to the law protecting us - try and find out about what happened to millions of dollars worth of property owned by Jews which was subsequently confiscated by the Nazis.

I think our mindset needs to change , maybe we have to learn to face up to the reality of what our current situation is rather than spouting fairy tales about how "rich" we are in comparison to the 80%  who live below the breadline.

I can mention a few cases in which you are definitely treated better:

The police, health services, basic rights and some sense of accountability of how your taxes are spent  - these are far above what the average Nigerian gets in his own country.
yes i agree but the bottom line is this is not our country and it is made clear to us on a daily basis.

You need to distinguish between individual experiences and the overall experience. This ‘blowing hot air’ phenomenon is just as prevalent among people living in Nigeria where the tiny minority live a good life to the neglect of millions.
Why should i distinguish between individual circumstances and overall experiences?  what does it matter, just because 10 nigerians happen to be earning more than the average nigerian in europe or america does not mean that that is the general situation of all nigerians in europe or america, as i said people in such circumstances are in the minority.

Furthermore the general consensus amongst whites with regard to blacks as a race is that we are a backward race of people incapable of running our own affairs and who are the beneficiaries of their "western civilisation" and religion which has lifted us out of our previous heathen and primitive state.

We can also ask - what happens when the government wakes up tomorrow in Nigeria and decides to ban the importation of cars for example? What happens to all those people in Nigeria who depend on this for incomes?  ]
Nah its not the same scenario, how many average nigerians can afford to import cars into nigeria - you're talking about a small minority of business people in nigeria who are involved in that line of business, there is no way you can compare massive job losses of nigerians abroad to a few nigerian business men loosing out on the car  importation business.  I think that the situation for nigerians abroad will be far more drastic.

what im saying is that if we loose our jobs here in the west many of us will be forced to come home and try and do something to change things.

What happens when the business you’ve worked hard to build up is suddenly rendered irrelevant because some fat cat in government wants the action all to himself?
What happens when you execute a contract and don’t get paid for 2 years because of a change in government?
well, i dont know the answer to that, as a people we seem to have a very high tolerance level for pain and suffering so perhaps nothing will happen, but i think more nigerian youth will become radicalised when they realise how grim and bleak their future looks.  I think a time will come when as a people we wont be able to take any more abuse from the nigerian govt - perhaps thats when we will move towards a revolution.

we are known the world over for pretending that we are in ecstacy when in actual fact we are in agony, the truth of the matter is that if our country were a good place to live none of us would have left to go and live in countries where we are treated shabbily. I dont care what sort of job you claim to be doing in the west as long as you are a black man you will not be treated in the same way that whites are treated. Many delusional nigerians keep blowing hot air about how they have fantastic jobs and lifestyles in america and europe, this simply does not add up as the majority of nigerians that i have come across in both continents are not living in this way.

But lets just say for the sake of argument that that is the case, what happens when they start laying off thousands of immigrants, what happens to our so called palatial (mortgaged) mansions and comfortable lifestyles?

REAL TRUTH:
Everybody can't stay or live in Nigeria,,,,It would be very silly, wicked and heartless of me to assume that because Nigeria is Ok for me,,,therefore, it should be oaky for everyone else. Its also silly and an act of foolish and blind patriotism for me to assume that Nigeria is the best place for all Nigerians to be in order for them to achieve their life dreams.
But the biggest act of stupidity is to try and convince young impressionable minds that leaving nigeria is the best thing that could ever happen to you, yes nigeria is in a deplorable state but the massive brain drain of the early 90s has not helped matters, the question many of us outside the country should be asking is : how can we change things, how can we get out of this state that we're in and make our country a place to be looked up  to by blacks all over the world.
Abandoning nigeria to go live in another man's land as a second class citizen is not the answer.

Its good enough to say the country has the potential to be better than what it is or has been all along,,,,but untapped potentials are just not sufficient enough. The truth is ,,,if Nigeria is not working for you,,and you have the means as long as its a legitimate one get out of the country. But if you think the country is treating you fine,,,,then good luck and stay back.
But what happens when those countries you have been running to decide to clamp down on immigrants?  this has been happening gradually since the early 90s but it is accelerating at an alarming rate now.  You forget that immigration of africans to europe and america has only been possible because of labour shortages suffered by those countries, stop fooling yourself into thinking that these people wanted us in their countries for any reason other than cheap labour.  In countries like Australia and New Zealand there was a ban on non white immigration which was lifted in the late 70s, theese people wanted to keep their population predominantly white and they had no need for cheap labour until very recently and even now Australia operates a very strict points based system which stipulates that only highly skilled workers are given limited entry into the country.

The thing most people on here have failed to appreciate is that immigration is a double edged sword, mass movement of workers from one economy into another means loss of manpower and potential development for one country and at the same time a gain in cheap labour and potential development for the other economy.  Europe and america have benefited from this movement to a very large extent.

Too many avoidable things are wrong with Nigeria,,so mere patriotic statement can not fix it,,,even our political leaders know this. If things were very okay in Nigeria,,,there would not be groups like Save Nigeria Group. However, anybody wants to talk down on Nigerians abroad,,,for a group of people sending down atleast $10Billion to an economy yearly,,,,that is quite substantial and commendable.
But nigeria looses billions of dollars from exploitation of its natural resources by foreign oil companies and other multinationals so even though nigeria may make $10 billion from remitted money coming in from abroad the net effect of massive foreign exploitation of our natural resources still leaves us worse off.

As far as I know presently,, most people re suffering in Nigeria,,,it takes pretence not to admit this fact.Even our political leaders children do not even resides in the country,,,many wealthy Nigerians(criminals or not) have their funds outside the country because they themselves re not commited to the country.
I m not sure i understand you  -you say that even wealthy nigerians (criminals and legitimate ones) are not comitted to the country, well its not often that you come across many legitimately wealthy nigerians, as for the criminals isnt it a bit ridiculous to expect the architect of nigeria's problems to be committed in a positive way to building up that same country?

Why do we have the Akunyili's daughters getting married to white Americans? Why MKO ABIOLA DAUGHTER(An Havard graduate getting married to a white?? Why is OBJ son(Muyiwa married to Bahamians and living his life in the US?? Even Adenuga's first son too refused to resides in Nigeria.
I read an interview by Dayo Adeneye last year,,,he said all his siblings ,,,except himself don't live in Nigeria. The truth is that there lots of Nigerians doing pretty well abroad(Particularly in the US),,,don't know else where though,,,
the reason you have Akunyili's daughter marrying a white man is simply because of who her parents are, would this white man be so keen if she were just another impoverished black girl living in america?  I think not, the same goes for OBJ, MKO and all the other children of wealthy people - beleive me when you have money finding a life partner is the least of your problems, white men do not usually marry black women - check the statistics, the ones who do usually do so for financial reasons ie the girl has to have wealth, or a good job.

The nigerians who keep telling you life is fantastic abroad are either delusional compulsive liars or just plain s.tupid - children of nigerian kleptocrats are to a large extent cocooned in a world of luxury however once in a while they still come face to face with the ugly cancer of racism which pervades all aspects of black people's lives.  A rich man's son or daughter who attends a private school in the UK or america will usually be one of a few black faces on the campus, they will stand out and feel isolated, many will find it difficult to fit in and will still ultimately be judged based on the colour of their skin.

Nigeria is not supposed to be one country bla bla bla. Are we not all the same black skinned people?
We are all one people - with the same skin shade but that doesnt necessarily mean that we have similar cultures and values, i used europe as an example for you, the europeans fought two of the bloodiest wars in history and yet im still waiting to hear you condemn them for their inter ethnic rivalry - why is that?  are you aware that the europeans slaughtered so many of their own people that it affected their economic development?  do you know this is one of the reasons why britain had to go to the carribean to recruit workers?  All these things are in the history books but you refuse to read them, instead you focus on bogus information about how africans are killing each other, what is wrong with you?

But we choose to single out a white skinned man as the cause of our problems when we do far worse things to one another.
here you go again fighting on behalf of your master, if you read your history you will find out that the white race are the architects of world wide exploitation, do the reseach bro.

Its obvious you are ignorant of happenings in Nigeria. How many times have Hausas been pointedly told to their face that they are intellectually inferior to Yorubas or Igbos? Are they under Jim Crow too.
but that is based on what obtained at independence, at that time the hausa fulani did not want the british to leave nigeria and were quite happy to remain in a subservient position with the british as rulers, we the southerners on the other hand did not want that type of arrangement.  Zik, Awo and Enahoro among others were the main agitators for our independence.  Is it not factual therefore to say that southerners were intellectually more advanced than northerners at that particular point in time?

How does Chima feel human when he has all the qualifications yet in his country he was pointedly told if he cant speak Hausa, Nothing for him
Chima can still walk into any establishment in abuja, kano, kaduna or maiduguri and be treated like a human being and not like some riff raff off the street.  Yes he will probably struggle to get a job in any of the govt institutions in those cities but he will never be treated as if he is inferior by any of the indigenous people in those places.

Are you aware that Hausas are told daily in Nigeria that they are intellectually inferior to Southerners?
Yes, but thats based on what obtained in nigeria following nigeria's independence in 1960, i think a lot of the northerners have managed to close that gap as a result of the  quota system.

Ask yourself who is having the complex, A man who looks inward for solutions or someone who chooses to blame White people for me having 20 babies I cant take care of.
Rubbish, who told you i dont look inward, looking inward is only part of the solution, does society at large not have anything to answer for? If you live in a system which deliberately fails people from a particular segment of society no amount of inward analysis can change things.

Were you not the one who claimed Planned Parenthood is a way of reducing black population? How dumb can one get. Someone told you, That have the number of kids you can cater for yet In your warped mind you choose to believe he wants to reduce your population,
Yes i did and i stand by that - you dont have to agree with me.  If you think im off my rocker why not try researching the history of Planned Parenthood and see what you come  up with.

How are you different from the People who believe Polio vaccination is a way to make Hausa men infertile?
actually i beleive that the polio vaccination was used surreptiously by the world health organisation to infect millions of africans with the HIV aids virus so perhaps im even more crazy than the so called infertile hausa men - by the way i belevie that there may be a lot of truth in their claim - population control is a covert agenda of the europeans against africans - try reading National Security Memo 200 - a memo drafted by america's former national security advisor - henry kissinger and perhaps you will begin to understand these people's agenda towards the black race.

i see this fool got tumbleweed between his ears. i did not say you go to jail for that. read what i wrote. i said if they want you to go to jail for something, they can make it happen. they can plant drugs in your car or they can say you are being rude to a police officer etc etc, happens all the time. they come up with a reason if they hate you that much. once a white police officer pulls you over, the only way to get off unscathed is to turn to a black slave again

open all your 32 teeth, while smiling hard and putting on your most polite voice * hello officer how are you doing today*

officer, *ignores you and asks do you know why i stopped you*  then you assume the slave position again * smile and put on your most polite voice * ermmm no sir but i am very sorry if i was doing anything wrong* bla bla bla bla. dehumanizing routine. at least in naija, you can still talk like a real man to the popo without fearing that you will be looked on as being insubordinate.
exactly bros - you described it right down to a tee, that is exactly how dayokanu and kabukabu have been surviving in the US and then they come on here talking crap as if we dont know how they get through life as black men in Amerikkka, guys please stop fronting, we know the score, most nigerians kiss arse big time in order to get through the day as a black man in america.  Lets face it if the president of the US Barack Obama is catching hell on account of the fact that he has black blood running through his veins what say you an ordinary faceless black man in white supremacist amerikkka?

trying to differentiate between tribalism and racism would achieve what exactly?

So you consider a qualified Chima denied a Job in Lagos and Abuja to favour Audu who is less qualified better than the Eze who was discriminated against in Idaho or Lancashire?

The Igbo woman lynched in Zamfara by fellow blacks would prefer to be in America or canada among white skinned people who call her Nigger.

Kano? Wasnt it in Kano that Southerners are killed in droves for being Southerners?

Have you forgotten Isioma Daniel that had a Fatwa declared on her in Nigeria by fellow black people? Where did she run to? White men country.

Or the Woman that was to be stoned to death by her fellow black men that was saved by some White Italian missionaries?

The number of Nigerians esp Igbos  killed in kano and kaduna in the last 10yrs would outnumber those killed in hate crimes all over the world combined together.

Isnt it a known fact that in Govt offices either lagos Abuja or Kaduna if you dont speak Hausa, Your chances of climbing the ladder is very slim?
I see the resident house negroes on nairaland are reporting for duty - una don try oh!

First of all why dont you try reading up on your country's history and then you will realise that nigeria is not supposed to be one country hence the reason for the discrimination, come to europe and see how the english look down on the scots and irish, people who they conquered and dominated for years.  Try going to europe and see what the germans think of the slavs from eastern europe - a people they tried to annihilate during the second world war.  A people they beleived were sub human and deserving of complete annihilation.

Do you think its only in nigeria that you have inter ethnic rivalry, in your brainwashed state you have convinced yourself that it is only the black man that quarrels with his neighbour - how dumb of you!

Your post is so full of junk i dont know where to start - at least Chima who was denied a job in Lagos can still feel like a human being, at least he is not told by a hausa man that his level of intelligence is below that of a hausa man, are you aware of what blacks in america went through under Jim Crow?  are you aware that they were told that they were inferior, and unfit to participate in mainstream (white society)

I am sick to my stomach of trying to explain the differences between racism and tribalism to people like you.

You have been conditioned to accept that you are inferior to the white man and therefore you jump to defend him and fight battles on his behalf at every turn - people like you remain the major stumbling block for progress of our people.

I have heard of "driving while black", but I have never had a problem being harrassed by police, do you understand simple English?
Yes i do understand simple english and i can tell you this - there is such a thing in america as racial profiling whereby black male drivers are stopped and searched at a rate which is disproportionate when equated to the whites who make up the majority of people in that country.  Just because you are yet to experience harrsassment at the hands of racist white police officers doesnt mean that your time will not come.  If an african american college professor could be treated like dirt and called a banana eating monkey by an ignorant red neck ku kux klan affiliated police officer what makes you think that you will be accorded special treatment?

You're a special dunce, if you think that the police just pull over and harrass well behaved people for no reason, ever heard of lawsuit, little man.And besides my folks can conduct themselves like articulate human beings, not throwing their caps, spitting and swearing at law enforcement officers just as you are so used to doing in Oshodi market. grin grin grin
here comes mr kabukabu blowing more of his fairy tales - havent you heard of the phrase "driving while black" in america ?

Have you forgotten about that african american professor - Louis Gates who was arrested by a white police officer FOR ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO BREAK INTO HIS OWN HOME!!!! STOP BEING DELUSIONAL
