@carcam,
tnx sooo much for ur advice. but reading from Genesis to Revelation 2 to 3 times back to back?
I really pray I'll be able to go through with it by God's grace.
I hope I don't give up esp wen I get to Numbers n Chronicles o
.

I pray God gives me the strength I need.

@kendraloops

Notice that I first asked you questions before offering advice(s)

The recommendations were based on/from first hand experience(s)

It was important, to confirm your motive(s) as this will reveal whether you have a drive or urge to press on reading no matter what

The drive is what will propel you to continue. With the drive you wont slacken up nor relax the reading efforts.

The first cover to cover read is a rapid quick read, which you do not need to first understand anything read but merely reading to become familiarised with the bible.

The 2nd or 3rd cover to cover read is merely a mop up read, to catch up with contents missed and getting better or clearer understanding from the re-reads.

Trust me, you won't give up, as once you start, you'll be looking for opportunities to continue reading especially as you are using a BBE version.

As for ". . . I pray God gives me the strength I need" God's grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness.

am interested cos I want to know more of God.
I want to be able to pray using bible verses.
I read d KJV but d grammar too much as in canst, knowest, rejoiceth so much dat I find that I don't understand at all.

@kendraloops

Here is what I'll advise, get hold of a Bible in Basic English (BBE) version.

Do a reconnaissance or exploratory read starting from Genesis to Revelation using BBE.

This is going to be a rapid read to gather or become familiar with bible content or information.

Don't get hang-ups, if you don't understand some parts, just continue the readings.

After that two or three BBE cover to cover complete reads, then you're likely ready for switching to using KJV.

With the right/good motive, the Holy Spirit will guide and reveal things to you.

The bible is the manual of the Manufacturer that produced you and Earth

You will get information about God - the Manufacturer, from reading His Manual; the bible

and you would find bible verses information which will help you talk pray about things regarding or concerning the Manufacturer's product(s); you especially.

Hope you find the advice helpful.

I have been having a running battle with myself trying to read my bible everyday
but I just can't. sometimes, I pick ut up to read but I don't know where to start.
An idea came to me to try reading from Genesis to Revelation in a particular order but that dint work cos it would seem like am reading a textbook or novel.
I really yearn to know more about God especially these days our pastors preach from " their own bible".
Thought of using a devotional like Word for Today, donno if it would help.
I'll appreciate sound advice pls.

@kendraloops

What bible(s) are you using or reading from, as in what translation(s)?
- (for example, is it King James Version (KJV); New Living Translation (NLT); New International Version (NIV); Bible in Basic English (BBE); American Standard Version (ASV); Young's Literal Translation (YLT) etc)
What other reason(s) apart from "I really yearn to know more about God especially these days our pastors preach from " their own bible"" do you want to read the bible well for?
Why are you interested in reading the bible?

The smell of money can befuddle

A man called up a bible believing church and the church secretary answered the call.
The man on the other end of the line said, "I’d like to speak to the head hog."
The secretary replied, "That wasn’t a very nice thing to say about our beloved minister, Rev. Jones."
Again the man replied, "I’d like to speak to the head hog, because I’m going to donate £75,000.00 to the church.
She replied, "Hold on a moment, I think the big fat pig just walked in."

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts

But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything--all she had to live on."

In Amsterdam's world-famous red light district, four attractive, half-dressed young women stand behind a window as visitors walk by.

In an all-too familiar scene, they flirt, pout and pose for the tourists, men seeking sex in exchange for cash and curious sightseers on the street outside.

'De Wallen' is the largest red-light district in the city and consists of a network of alleys containing hundreds of tiny one-room cabins rented by prostitutes to ply their trade.

Suddenly, one of the prostitutes begins to shake violently, causing those wandering by to stop and watch, unsure as to what is happening.

One by one the other prostitutes join in with her curious actions, before amazing the crowd by launching into a storming, intricately choreographed dance routine.

0773H:
SMH @ sadeiyare. How can you say that about Methuselah?
How can you say "The only thing said about him was that he lived 969yrs and died, is there any other why
?"
Well the other why, was that the name Methuselah by itself is prophetic.
Neighbors regarded Methuselah with great fear because they knew that something bad or unpleasant will happen when he Methuselah dies,
so they dreaded the death of Methuselah and were thankful to God each day they wake up to find and see Methuselah still alive and not yet dead
You do know what happened after Methuselah died. Right?
I doubt the cemetery seminary makes known this.

Jesus In Genesis Supernatural Design

Also you probably must have wondered why Methuselah lived as long as he lived (i.e. 969 years)

Well the meanings of names from this subliminal message in the early part of the Bible (i.e. Genesis) gives clues

and hunches why people, possibly weren't keen or looking forward to Methuselah dying

Matthew 16:28
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.

Mark 9:1
And he said to them, "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.

Luke 9:27
I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God

Obviously everyone that heard Jesus say this is no longer living, so it seems this prediction by Jesus did not take place.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what the 'Kingdom of God' is.

Or maybe Jesus is saying that salvation brings life, and physical death is not important.

I think that is was the pervading belief among early Christians that they would live to see the second coming of Christ, as evidenced by some of the letters of Paul.

How am I misinterpreting this?

e_prynce:

I too have marveled at that scripture. I'm following with keen interest

@Akin1212 @e_prynce

The prediction took place roughly 40 years later.

Romans invaded Jerusalem in August of A.D. 70, after a five-month siege destroyed the Temple.

It is the destruction of the temple in 70 A.D, they lived to see, without tasting death

The Temple was completely destroyed about 40 years after Jesus died.

So some of them witnessed the kingdom of God come with power at the destruction of the temple just as Jesus prophesied

The Nicodemus' and the likes can't, won't or don't see the Kingdom of God even if staring them in the eyeballs

For some of those people, not born of above then, to see, they saw 40 years later

# Number 40, again. Deja vu?

Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth

okeyxyz:

Glad the passages spells out the true meaning of humility which is absolute obedience/abidance to one's values or instructions.

Humility is not morality or not enjoying\displaying your wealth so that people will say "ohh what a humble man...".

Such is the falsities that pervades religions today, where people praise you for not exercising your powers/rights and call it humility.

Humility is the exercise (obedience) of power, not the denial of it
.

Recently,i was thinking when i noticed a lot of people go to churches and mosques religiously,
yet funny enough the country still remains at a moral stand-still, unlike the advanced countries,
where citizens rarely do, so it occurred 2 me, a lot of people have different reasons why they attend this gatherings . . .

the top of the list being that they wanna make heaven,but the question remains,"y do you want 2 go to heaven?",

I did a mini-research,and here are the funny reasons people gave:

1.i want to go 2 heaven so i can laugh at iya shukura in hell grin

2.so i can get my 77 virgins wink

3.omoh,the suffering for naija na hell,i wan go heaven sef,make i rest small cheesy

4.i heard there is plenty food there

5.to get a mansion full of gold cool

cant remember the other funny reasons i got,but pls share your reasons here.

@dexterinc2003

#5 is another example of sick theology and bad interpretations of the bible verse(s)

Revelation 21:21
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls;
every several gate was of one pearl:
and the street of the city was pure gold,
as it were transparent glass

The verse is not describing heaven or the streets of heaven, word for word for that matter.

It's describing and explaining something else.

There is more than the eyes sees, in the text and it's context

The Israelites did not find land flowing with literal milk and honey in Canaan.

How's that explained? I hear asked.
