pongwa:
this authority was bequeathed to states. Who now acts in behalf of the 'states'?
This is an ambiguity please explain further
Only state governments via the state assemblies are empowered to establish sharia “courts”. And even when done, they are voluntary for both Muslims and Christians. Even as a Muslim you can choose not to appear before a sharia court and you can choose not to be bound by the judgement even when you willingly attend.

If they implemented sharia in the north the way it is spelt out in the constitution, I am sure nobody would have a problem. But they don’t and take advantage of the fact that many of them in the North are ignorant of the law. Therefore based on how they have implemented sharia in the North and considering that only a state assembly can establish sharia, they will struggle to get this going in the SW.

Having said that I was surprised to learn that sharia court or panel is fully active in Lagos state!

See below: (why the suspicion against any so called panel is justified.

https://www.hrw.org/reports/2004/nigeria0904/4.htm

“However, in the southwestern state of Oyo, it was reported that on October 31, 2002, a man was sentenced to flogging for extra-marital sex and the punishment carried out, even though Shari’a is not in force in the state. He was sentenced not by a Shari’a court, but by an Independent Shari’a Panel.”

yes but you may not be able to get admission into the best universities or the most competitive courses. however even the best foreign universities may waive that if 1) you are paying foreign fees or 2) you have valid work experience/other certifications.

trust me a lot of the Nigerians studying abroad were only admitted because they are paying foreign fees which they need (especially in the Uk) to subsidize home students

PDP just dumped the bvas in court without linking it to their case ....
Well, bringing BVAS to court in itself means nothing. If that is what they are doing then this is a rehash of Obi’s boxes of EC8 and ballot papers. It means they have no case and are playing to the gallery.

For you to prove rigging you must provide and link either the BVAS or EC8 or both to your case. Just bringing it to court means nothing. In fact bringing BVAS , ballot papers, EC8 to court without linking or referencing them to your case is evidence you know you lost. Like I said any evidence of rigging and the only way to prove it is through BVAS and EC8.

Like I have said i previous threads. You cannot rig an election. in Nigeria without leaving evidence. The evidence is in BVAS machines (over voting) and from EC8 (altered results).

Anybody who claimed he was rigged and cannot provide (or base his evidence on) the BVAS or EC8 in court is lying. When you hear anyone talking about irev in court, just know there and then that the person lost and knows he lost.

This is not to say that presenting BVAS and EC8 means you won, it may prove rigging in some Polling units but it does not mean you won overall. My point is rigging always leaves evidence and this is how you prove rigging.

Haaa. Error. They should have factored cost of packing into the cost of the product itself. With that, the buyer may not know he or she is being charged for packaging.

I guess they are doing that just to exhaust the package on ground and ensure accountability because their staff can stèàl ehnn.
They will go home with those packing materials, if SPAR is not costing it.

Why it is costed separately is because they don’t want to mess up their inventory system, by editing it and now adding cost od nylon to it.

Their latest inventory will always include this cost and it won’t show on shoppers’ receipts.
You are right but they attempted to be too clever by halves.

The whole concept was flawed from the start. They say plastic bags are banned by the government so why are they selling not just carrier bags but the nylon bags used in wrapping fresh meat. According to her she wanted to buy, a few kg of beef, mince meat, chicken breast and chicken drumsticks, they wanted to charge her N150 each for the nylon wrapping each item. Is she supposed to take raw meat dripping in blood to the counter?

She has been telling me for a while since devaluation that spar is always empty. I remember her telling me they were once selling Titus for N3,500. They tried to exploit Nigerians and many never returned. She told me she has never seen a Saturday so empty as today.

Politics › Re: Why Military Can’t Come Back To Power, By Gen. Abdulsalami by casualobserver:
SmartPolician:
Military rule isn't outdated. Why the military cannot return to power now is that today's soldiers don't have brave hearts like those who fought in the civil war.

For instance, Babangida trekked from Enugu to Umuahia during the civil war. These are men who were brave and had guts. Today's soldiers are boy scouts who only joined the military because they couldn't get decent jobs.

For you to usurp power, you must strong-willed because if it doesn't go well, you'll be executed. That's why Babangida and his men chased Buhari out of power.
Nah! You got it all wrong. The main reason the military will not return is because they are being taken good care of. If you know what I mean.

Most of them have their children, family and assets abroad. This is not the 1970-90s, where you can escape international sanctions, safely hide your money in Swiss bank accounts or your children and family are based in Nigeria where you can find good universities to enroll your children.

We have our weaknesses like every tribe but religion is not an issue that can divide or cause disunity amongst Yorubas. You have failed before you even started! Ko le work!

I am not a Muslim but I can bet that If they continue to push the sharia agenda, what will happen is that just like yoruba Christians have largely broken away from the mainstream western churches, ( the Catholic Church in yoruba land exists only because of Ibos today) so also yoruba Muslims will break away from the “authority” of the Sultan……after all who gave him the authority over yoruba Muslims who have been practicing Islam before Usman Dan Fodio set foot on Hausa land?

Good day. You will be ignored henceforth!

Politically, yorubas are led by muslims?. They have always supported Muslim presidents. The presidency no be between una and the north again?

Muslims make up 40-60% of southwest population.

Shariah is a constitutional right of the 55% muslims of southwest origin.
Like I said you are a village eediot

Yorubas do not vote based on religion.

There has been 12 presidential or prime- ministerial elections since independence.

4 elections from 1959 to 1983. In all 4 the yorubas Muslims voted overwhelmingly for a Christian even when it was a Christian Christian ticket.

1992 and 2023 Muslim Muslim ticket. Yoruba Christians voted for a Muslim

1999, 2003, Yorubas of all religions votes for a Christian

2007 the candidates were all muslim

2011 yorubas voted overwhelmingly for a Christian against the muslim.

2015 the same yorubas who voted for a Christian voted for a muslim against the same Christian of 2011.

2019 all candidates were muslim.

Of the six SW governors today, only 1 is muslim and he is neither here nor there as he is Christian today, muslim tomorrow and he is governor of one of the most Muslim
Populated states. The governor of the other state with the highest Muslim population (Oyo) is a christian.

The premier of the western region and his deputy were both Christians. In the second republic 1979-1984, the governor of Lagos and his deputy were both muslims, in Oyo, Ondo, Ogun states the governors and their deputies were both Christians.

Nobody ever talks about their religions because we in the SW care focused on their performance in office. It may shock many reading this to know some of the stats I provided above.

Like I said you are a village eediot trying to cause problems in SW the same way you destroyed your zone causing all of you to flee to the peace and stability in yoruba land.

We don’t vote for people based on religion because all Yorubas have Christian’s and Muslims in their families and we lived peacefully before people who destroyed their land started immigrating into the SW and brought the same intolerance that destroyed their zone.

You won’t succeed

Again you are a village eediot!

Sharia is also a constitutional right of the Muslims in the SE, let them take it there first.

Sharia can never fly in the SW, even the Muslims will reject it. Outsiders. Like you cannot destroy our peace the way you have turned your zone into a wasteland! We won’t be gaslighted by the sultan or by IPOB elements living amongst us.

We can do it. My worry is just that the state governors are benefiting more from this and it seems some of them just squander it on irrelevances.
It is to be expected that all Naira based revenue figures for 2023/2024 will rise due to currency devaluation and inflation in prices of vat goods. Naira will be stable or rise in value in 2025 and that is when we will know the real performance of FIRS.

IfnobeGod20:
By the time you're corrected now, you will turn it to another issue entirely. Mr. Man, there are different levels of rigging. Some are done at the polling unit level. Some are done at the ward level. Another are done at the state collation level and the baba of all is rigging at the national level when the collated results at the state level is on transit to the national level. The most difficult to dictate is the one at the unit level where results are manipulated to suit the number of registered voters and this is done cohort with the party agents in attendance. In such care there is no way you can detect that. And this is the most commonest rigging done by the politicians. The one that is easy to detect is the one that the results have been announced, results collated and entered and sheets given to different parties including police. If paradventure the results are altered, you can easily detect that but if it is done at the unit level, it would take miracles to detect that.

Another issue a petitioner has is this issue of ruling based on technicality while jettisoned the substance of the suit and this is the most common thing in many of the election ruling. Even with glaring evidence, the election judge will still have reasons to rule to kill a very tight case of rigging and irregularity in an election.

Your view about knowing there was a rigging or irregularity may not be factual all the time. There are some rigging that are technically done and may not leave behind traces. Except you've not monitor election before, that you won't know this.
My friend common sense wil tell you that elections are not done at the ward state or national level. Every election is done at the polling unit level and the evidence of what transpired there is in the Form EC8 which every party agent and the police have copies and the BVAS which has a record of how many voters were accredited.

Any collation or rigging you do at ward, state or national level will leave a trace because the source of the figures you are adding is what transpired at the PU level. The PU and hence the EC8 form and BVAS register of accredited voters is the source of all the figures the add at ward, state or national level.

This is basic common sense I don’t know why it is so difficult for so called educated people to understand.

As far as technicalities, that’s up to you to make sure you dot your Is and cross your Ts. If you didn’t follow the election law, that’s your problem not rigging or the court. If the electoral law says clearly, this is the procedure and you didn’t follow the procedure, whose fault is that? If you submit forged certificate and you win but are disqualified, whose fault is that? If the law says you must be a member of a party by a certain date and you joined after that date because you lost the ticket in your party, who’s fault is that?

You can change figures all you like at irev, ward, state or national level but you can’t change the content of BVAS and you can’t change the content of the copy of the form EC8 of which all party agents have a copies. If the figures you present at ward, state or national level don’t tally, I simply bring out my copy of all my EC8 forms and ask to compare with the one you used to compute your fictitious result.

Is this thing really that hard for you people to grasp? Seriously?

EDIT: I just realized it is you the village eeediot, ( no surprise) if I had seen your handle I wouldn’t have bothered to reply as you know I don’t respond to you despite all your previous attempts to court my attention.
Politics › Re: PDP Witness Stuns Edo Election Petition Tribunal With Overvoting Testimony by casualobserver:
ClassAssignment:
Have you forgotten The Supreme Court Governor? Hope Uzodinma?
If I recall correctly that was a slightly different matter but also shows that you will always leave evidence of rigging. Uzodinma’s lawful votes were excluded, i.e he was the one who was a victim of rigging! Don’t forget Imo was an APC state and Rochas tried to impose his son in law as governor in another party. By the time the case got to the Supreme Court, Nwosu who actually won the election had been knocked out on a technically of not being lawfully nominated by his party and had withdrawn his case or did not appeal and had returned to the APC. By the time the case was heard at the Supreme Court and Uzodinma’s wrongfully excluded votes were added, he moved from 4th to 2nd to Nwosu but who had been disqualified and did not appeal his disqualification. That is how he became governor.

In any event I am talking about the law as at today. The electoral law as at 2023 was different and much more watertight than in 2019.

If you are referring to his second term, he won despite proof that he did indeed rig the election. His opponent did not challenge because he knew despite the rigging he still lost.

Uzodinmas 2nd term election has been extensively analysed by Osita Chidoka if you care to watch. All the evidence of rigging was there but he still won even after the rigged votes were cancelled.

The point is you can’t rig without leaving evidence. That your opponent does not challenge you because it doesn’t alter the result does not mean there isn’t evidence. There was rigging in the SE for Obi, we saw the videos of one person stamping multiple ballots. It wasn’t challenged because Tinubu won. If the results of that PU affected the overall results all Tinubu or Atiku has to do is examine the thumb prints of the ballots for that PU and forensic examination will show they were stamped by the same person. There has been a case like that before I can’t remember the exact case now.

Asuen will likely reclaim his stolen mandate if the Judiciary will for once be fair in their judgement.
its not a question of Judiciary for once being fair, did they not upturn the election in Osun when presented with evidence. If Ighodalo has evidence, he will win. The good thing about this thing is no matter how crooked a judge when someone shows you result sheets that have been altered, you have no choice but to cancel the results, when someone shows you evidence that more people voted than were acreddited, you have no choice but to cancel those results.....and if those altered or overvoting figures were used in calculating the final results and if changed the outcome of the election, a judge has no choice no matter how crooked but to award victory to the petitioner. What you cannot do is present nonsense "evidence" in court (like IREV) and expect the judge to rule in your favour. Election is simple arithmetic, there is no grey area, 1 + 1 will always equal 2 in any court, 2 is always greater than 1, 3 greater than 2, 4 greater than 3 etc so also 7 is always greater than 6 in any court. if Inec says your opponent got 7 and you got 6, your ONLY job in court is to provide the evidence actually you got more than 6 or your opponent got less than 7in such a manner that you have more than him. Everything else is just noise and playing on emotions and sentiment. A judge cannot rule in your favour if you dont provide the evidence...going to court is not proof you won.

What pains me is that these useless selfish politicians suceed in brainwashing their supporters and maligning our institutions for their own selfish aims.

ordinarily INEC should be getting praised for developing what I repeat is one of the most fool proof election systems in the world. I have lived in the Uk for many years trust me their system is very flawed, you can register in many places with fake names and vote. You can register and vote in many states in the USA without ID. Their systems are based on trust and civil rights. Our system was designed because we know we are crooks.....politicians, govt officials and voters!! It is for the same reason that DSTV's encryption system that is now used allover Africa including South Africa was designed in Nigeria by Nigerians. Only a crooks can design a system that can catch crooks, thats why oour system will leave evidence of rigging.
