if you dont know the background story, you wont understand the joke when Otedola was a young man he was already succesful and felt he was very comfortable just living off the bank interest of his deposits in the bank which at the time was 35% pa. Then one day his daughter's school teachers asked the pupils in the class what their parents did and his daughter said "my dad sleeps".....obviously when she goes to school every morning her father is still sleeping. When he heard this it caused him to rethink his life and that is what spurred him to become what he has become today. |
professorPABX:Like the commissioner said on TV. There is no need to “enlighten”. The people who bought these lands have lawyers. Any property lawyer knows the law, both in terms of what the land can be used for and who has jurisdiction over planning approvals. People deliberately engaged in illegalities because they have gotten away with it in the past. |
In fairness, That Tanko of a fella has no business being relevant on the national stage. He looks, talks and has the appearance of a clerk from a remote local government secretariat. The Obidient movement has elevated too many mongrels! |
Federal govt has no jurisdiction to grant planning permission over that land. Once any land in a state owned by federal government is used for anything other than the purpose for which the land was given to the FG, the approval must be granted by the state. This is a Supreme Court ruling! The land was granted to the federal govt for a trade fair complex. Once the land is used for anything other than the purpose for which the land was granted, planninpeission must come from the state. |
RichBoy247:some people went through the trouble of setting up parties, Some people think they can just walk in and be granted the ticket. The people that created the party are fools or what? i dont understand people like Obi and GEJ...Ayiku is there for jokes at 80? |

Housing:Which yeye Captain, his name is Kola Kareem. Among other things he used to sell clothes in a store on Awolowo road in the 1990s. |
Feelsgood:I asked for a lawyer who knows the law regarding labour laws in free trade zones. Not an opinion of a lay man who is just speculating. What you have written does not add any value to the topic or to my life. |
I am not a lawyer but someone should check whether labour laws apply to free trade zones. I suspect they don’t.

Wallade:Dangote does not need the Nigerian market, it operates in a free trade zone. It can(and does) import crude from anywhere in the world and sell its products abroad. It has the entire African market as a captive market. It’s petrol is cheaper n Nigeria than anywhere else it sells. |
If Dangote had taken his $20b and invested it in Apple NVidia etc like his friends advised him, he would be worth at least $100b today. People with funds to invest are watching and taking notes. Datsall |
ibabz:It’s called a managed float. Every country defends its currency when needed. It you had stopped to think, it might have occurred to you, that we must be doing pretty well to have spent $8b defending the Naira and still managed to grow our reserves from $3B to $43b as at yesterday! If you don’t have reserves can’t defend your currency. The reason why our reserves fell to $3b under Buhari was because we drew down the little we had defending an artificial rate. Like I said that we can intervene and defend the currency when needed (it was a one off). And at the same time increase our reserves is a sign of progress.
|
Kimo21:We are exporting more crude, more refined petroleum products, fertilizer, manufactured goods, agric products etc
|
abhosts:Sterling is actually N1999. But you are right part of the appreciation in Naira against the dollar is due to the dollar itself losing value against almost all currencies since Trump, started his trade wars.. That said, you are also wrong. Naira is also gaining due to increased reserves, more exports, less imports, rising crude production and harmonization of exchange rates leading to more inward remittances via the official channels. The rise is the Naira is a combination of the work the country is doing and the weakness in the dollar. To deny the role of either is tp present an intellectually incompetent argument.

Anyone who understands the process of state creation should know that not a single state has ever been created in Nigeria by civilians and none ever will. People are welcome to agitate for more states so long as they know it will never happen. Oh and by the way people should know Presidents do t have the power to create states. |
Where was Odinkalu when Peter Obi did the same? |
Kewekubosineh:Everything is always someone else’s fault. Have you noticed that theme in your stories? |
SarkinYarki:It's a good road, dont deny them their joy. hopefully they can start returning home. |
The South Africans, he Indians, the Emiratis, the Thai and the Ghanaians must have warned them about the developers when they met at the UNGA. |
DrMB:I suggest you watch the presentation by he chairman of the NRS formerly FIRS. https://www.youtube.com/live/0tbXD1gKQt0?feature=shared He answers your questions and coined a phrase for people like you who get their news from social media. I believe the term he used was “container economists”. He specifically addresses the issue of dependence on oil price and oil revenues and how it is not sustainable and how we are no longer dependent on Oil revenues or the price of Oil. He outlines the progress made so far in this regard and reiterates that the true measure of an economy is its non oil sector and revenue as otherwise a country will be beholden to fluctuations in Oil prices over which it has no control. It is also important to address something the uninformed harp on about which he addressed. Our budget was based on 80% IGR and 20% borrowing. So if we have far exceeded our IGR why are we still borrowing? He says you must borrow if you have things to do. What you don’t borrow to build today when it costs $1 will cost you $4 when in future you have the money. If you can build 2 roads today for $1b each because your revenues have increased, the prudent thing to do is to borrow to build both roads now since your increased revenue can service the loans, instead of building one now for $1b and the other in 5 years when the cost would have risen to $4b. This is something I have said many times when some people praise their governors for not borrowing. It is not a badge of honour to have infrastructure deficit and beat your chest for not borrowing to tackle the defict. More revenue actually means you can engage in more infrastructure now, reap the benefits of the infrastructure now and have more revenue to service the loans. He also said borrowing provides income for banks which provides jobs for their staff and income tax for state governments and company taxes for the federal govt. however he also said because we have exceeded our revenue we are not borrowing the 20% deficit as provided for in the budget but 10%. For example, he highlights that whereas we made N125B from non oil revenue in May 2023, we made over N1T in sept 2025. That is a deliberate effort to reduce dependency on Oil and not just a result of Naira depreciation. Again I suggest you watch it, it is on YouTube. If you cannot be bothered to watch, I cannot be bothered to summarize. If you cannot be bothered to watch, you are not really interested in knowing the facts. I have done my bit by pointing you to the source of your answers to your questions. It is up to you to watch if you are genuinely interested and not just looking for cheap shots against the govt. https://www.youtube.com/live/0tbXD1gKQt0?feature=shared

Kewekubosineh:1: the fact that you are still talking about Kanu despite what his agitation has done to your land is exactly why we say you are not remorseful. This is exactly why the rest of Nigeria is not really interested in the goings on in the SE. With due respect, to us you are not serious and when your are serious you will do the needful. 2: A man burns down his own house because he is unhappy with his neighbor. You expect him to look at his house and have regret since the house of the neighbor he has a problem is not only standing but is now the place he runs to for shelter. Instead he is asking why the neighbor is not helping him to build a new house and demanding release from prison from the man who led him to burn his house. Make it make sense because I believe I speak for 90% of non SE NIgerians when we say it makes no sense to us. 3: what exactly is this justice you seek? Ibos are the biggest beneficiaries of Nigeria! you have a land mass equal to Niger state, yet you have 5 more governors, 5 more senators and 5x the FAAC allocation of Niger state, yet you want a sixth state. You are the only people who even before the recent problems have to leave your zone to make a living. Every other zone can survive without Nigeria. The Ibos have to migrate and have always had to. You are accommodated outside the SE in a manner that is unheard of for outsiders in the SE. Are you the only region with poverty, bad roads, neglected infrastructure etc? Have you not been part of the federal govt for at least 40 of the last 65yrs and suddenly because you put all your eggs in one basket and lost out in 2015, suddenly you are not treated fairly or marginalized? Are you the only tribe in Nigeria? The are tribes in Nigeria that have never been any of the top 6 positions in the country, Finally what exactly is the contribution of the SE to Nigeria? What is the SE contribution to Nigeria for all this talk of justice? Are you the food basket of Nigeria, the solid minerals hub, the manufacturing hub, the petroleum resource hub, the tax revenue hub, the aviation or sea port hub, the commercial nerve center. What exactly is the contribution of the SE….I really would like to know! You’ve had a president, a head of state, a vice president, multiple senate presidents and and speakers, multiple deputy senate presidents and deputy speakers. What if the people from Edo or Taraba? Are you the only ones in Nigeria? You want Biafra, instead of you to pressure your reps to push for referendum, Kalu is busy sponsoring a bill to claim indiginship of other people’s ancestral lands. You say you want Biafra but instead of seeking a peaceful agitation for as change of laws your representatives are betraying what we are as your real motives by seeking to be indigines of lands that are not your ancestral lands. Is that the action of serious people? |
This Rivers state politics na wah. The more you look the less you see. The APC governorship candidate supported LP in last election. The APC governorship candidate is at loggerheads with APC in Rivers. Na APC Chairman Dey release statement defending Wike of PDP. No PDP chairman in Rivers state? |
Laalasticla:blocked. i dont have time for interactions like this. |
Laalasticla:tell me the aim of sending a thief to prison if he comes out to steal again. Jesus wept! where did you guys get your brains from? |
Uchesis:Did you know despite the civil war of 1967-70, people were still partying in the rest of the country like nothing was going on? Nigeria was never a producer of wheat. War does not mean the whole country is affected. Ukraine will not win this war, neither has Natasha. Pick your battles wisely. |
Damaged children often manifest as psychopaths. Psychopaths tend to stand out either for great positive achievements or for infamy. |
Hedonisco:Exactly! As far as I am concerned the girl is not a role model based on her antecedents . That she remembers whatever upbringing she seemed to have forgotten when in presence of a man of influence doesn’t fool me. As you said, when she displays that behavior for a nobody I will know she is a true omoluabi. Unfortunately for her she has displayed the traits of a badly raised woman more times than that of a well raised Yoruba woman. |
