His mum is from Epe (Lagos) and his dad from Ondo.

Current deputy governor's late dad's mum was from Ewekoro in Ogun state. The dad even became an Oba there in Ewekoro via maternal line.

My part of Lagos, Ifako Ijaiye used to be part of western region and when states were created, some of my cousins were cut off into Ajuwon (Ogun state).
Yes I am aware he has roots in Ogun state. I think his dad died or something like that soon after he was elected in 2019.

This casual argument is neither geographically or historically correct.

Lagos State is different from Lagos island that has the Iga Idugaran palace of the Oba of Lagos just as Ondo State is different from Ondo town.

There are indigenous peoples of the Western region LGA equivalent of divisions that were merged with Lagos island/ FCT to create Lagos State in 1967.

Not all the indigenous peoples are Yoruba, since we have Egun people of Badagry in the state
who were part of the defunct Western region. The Oba of Lagos and many indigenous people of Lagos island have Bini ancestry.

https://guardian.ng/sunday-magazine/lagos-oba-traces-origin-to-benin/

In this regard, Yoruba states like Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Osun that are not contiguous with Lagos cannot have their sub-tribes as part of the indigenous peoples of Lagos State.
That post was not the beginning of the subject. Clearly current ondo, ekiti, Oyo and Osun states could never have been annexed to form Lagos state. I never said so. Common sense…….

I was trying to explain how different Yorubas from different parts of Yoruba land can be valid Lagosians now that “Lagos” had been expanded into a state. And how someone who has roots from a yoruba state other than Lagos can also be a valid Lagos state indigine.

The annexation to form Lagos state was just one and explained how the Ijebu SS and egbas for example became part of Lagos state.

I also talked about Yorubas from Places like ilesha etc who had settled in places like Abule ijesha would explain how an ilesha man would be a lagosian.

It is a casual discussion . I wasn’t attempting to write a detailed history Ph.D thesis on a Thursday night not that I am even capable of a detailed history. I was merely attempting to explain to these expansionists who don’t know the history of the Yorubas that there are many routes by which Yorubas from other states can also be Lagosians. The example of Ambode explains places like Ondo and Ekiti. Even the Egbas fled from Oyo, Ibadan was a war camp for (amongst others) people from Oyo and Ife. Adebayor the footballer is from Togo but also from Osun state. We have Yorubas in Togo, Ghana before states and countries were created.

The point is that there are many routes by which a man can have roots in other yoruba states and be a valid Lagosian. And people who do t know or bother to know our history should mind their own business.

Yorubas left from Ife, over time they spread across yoruba land. Depending on the path your ancestors took, it’s not a surprise to find an indigine of any state in yorubaland being also a Lagosian by ancestry with the expanded Lagos state.

Point noted about the Egun. I had forgotten about them but them like I said there are ilaje, Nupe who are historical Lagosians. The Oba of Lagos is from Benin, same way the people of Benin are indigenous Benin people but their Obas are from Ife. We have ancestral roots with the itshekiris and some others. However no such historical interaction, contact or connection even by trade exists with the Ibos.

Old Oyo empire in different shades of red!

Slytiger:
You are correct. Iju Ishaga from Ishaga Orile in Ogun state. Ikoyi from Ikoyi in Oyo state and so on.
Many of these expansionists hear Lagos and don’t realize colonial Lagos is different from Lagos state. Lagos state was created by annexing other parts of the yoruba western region. 92% of current land mass of Lagos state was never part of old Lagos but indigenous Yorubas from the western region and was never known as Lagos until 1967. These people who have roots from all over yorubaland suddenly became part of the new state called Lagos. That’s why someone from Osun can be a Governor in Lagos. If I recall correctly it was said Ambode had origins in Ondo or Ekiti but also Epe.

So Tinubu is from Osun yet he rule Lagos

True true, Lagos is a NO MAN'S LAND grin
Keep out of things you do not undnerstand. You are not yoruba. You don’t understand the roots and relationships of the Yorubas.

Yayi has been a senator in Lagos and Ogun, he will be the next governor of Ogun.

Since “Lagos”. was expanded into a state it brought people from other parts of yoruba land into “Lagos state”. Ikorodu, Lekki, Epe etc are ijebus, Abule Egba are people from Abeokuta, Abule Ijesha are people from Ilesha. a man can have ancestral roots in Ogun state and be a Lagos indigene. similar relationships exists with people from Oyo, Osun etc. I have ancestral roots in 3 possibly 4 yoruba states. Every yoruba is from Ife. No Ibo is yoruba.

There are indigenous Lagosians who originate from the Nupe in Niger state as they shared a boundary with old Oyo empire. Such relationships and does not exist and can never apply to an Ibo because no Ibo is ever a yoruba. We have never shared a boundary with you. We did not know of your existence or interact with you until recently. There are some people of the SS that can trace their ancestry or families to Lagos or other yoruba states, similarly like I said some Nupe people. Such does not and can never apply to an Ibo. Our history never intertwined, our cultures and values are total opposite. We have nothing in common except Nigeria.

An Ibo can never be an indigene of Lagos or yorubaland. You can only ever be an Ibo residing in the SW.

I. Suggest you mind your business.

Politics › Re: Tinubu Not Lying, Actual Naira Value Was ₦2,000/$ Under Buhari — Reno Omokri by casualobserver:
This Reno’s sychophancy is getting too annoying even for me who is a Tinubu supporter.

Tinubu never said he met is at N1900. He said when I came in. When I came in is an ambiguous statement. The problem like I always say is NIgerians and their poor English comprehension.

The word “met” is a very specific word. He never said “he met”. When I came in is broad. When I came in could be any time in the early days of his administration.

When I came in could mean he met it at N1900 or at the early days or inception of his administration it was N1900. Met is specific because met means it was a condition that existed before he was president. He never said “met”. Those who are reporting it are saying “met”…..that’s not what he said.

Although the president himself would help by not using vague language when addressing people who anre not properly schooled in English, Nigerians need to work on their English. We have a habit of hearing one thing and interpreting it as we wish.

Or else why would someone say when I came in it was 1900 and when you report it you change the word to met and say I met it at 1900?

At least use the exact words he used!

New York, London, very easy
This was the post I responded to. My understanding was that you said they don’t rent to resident NIgerians and I tried to give an explanation why if that is the case. You said nothing about driver or driverless in that post. I have never had a need to rent a car in Nigeria so I don’t know about their operations in Nigeria.

I don’t need to be wasting my time trying to shed light to get responses like you are lying.
This is part of why Nigerians and Nigeria remain backward.

Go ask your uncle to open his own rental company and operate it according to your own rules and wishes.

I am done here.

DiarisGodoo:
Meaning what? Why is it you go to website to reserve a car for Lagos and you can't
Nigerian residents are not their target market. Their main target market are foreign visitors and Nigerians in diaspora. If NIgerians were their target audience they have the capacity to flood the market with thousands of cars.

This is how it works. They have corporate clients. When I worked in the UK, my company had a contract with Europcar at a corporate rate. If I had to travel to another office and didn’t want to add miles to my car, I would book a rental car from Europcar on the company account.

These corporate clients have offices all over the world. Part of the requirements for these companies when they sign agreements is that the rental companies have offices in the locations where they have operations. So they maintain skeletal representation in countries like Nigeria to serve those clients. They are not in Nigeria to serve NIgerians. They wil serve diasporans because they are foreign residents and have foreign credit cards, have traceable addresses , have recognized ID, have foreign credit scores etc. Most Nigerians in Nigeria don’t have credit cards. Almost all reputable international rental companies will not rent to you without a credit card all over the world. They generally don’t accept debit cards.

Why else you want rent a nice ride to go see people you'd see only once - like class reunion. Or say you want sleep in the car, carry excess load in the car, whatever. And you have this big guy in suit and tie everywhere you go!😅
Nonsense
A business does not care about everybody. A business is only interested in having enough people to make their business viable. They have enough people who only need a means of transport and many are fine with and even prefer a driver. Particularly diasporans and expats.

Like I said nobody is going to rent a car without a driver to anyone in Nigeria. Even when they return the car they may have swapped some parts in the car. We are untrustworthy criminally minded people don such.

Like I said you are free to start your own driverless car rental business or ask your rich uncle to finance your great idea!

How about you're willing to deposit nearly full price of the car as deposit??
What a question? How many regular Nigerians do you see not driving their cars. A driver is proof the car is NOT yours which kinda defeats the purpose! grin
Also, you want to be free with the car - a driver prevents that!
Oh you want to pretend you own the car?

Or you want a means of transportation? Make up your mind!

A company’s purpose is to make money. Their business model only works with a driver. If it worked without a driver they would not incurr the additional expense of a driver. You are free to open your own car rental without a driver and leet is know how you get on renting to NIgerians without a driver. Particularly if you have any cars left after a week.

The post I responded to did not mention driver. So I apologize if you had said that in a previous post.

That said why would anyone rent a car to a Nigerian without a driver? A country of criminals without working institutions. Where a driving g license could be fake? Why would anyone even want to rent a car in Nigerian without a driver if you have a choice of a driver?

Sabadon:
in as much as I am not a fan of bulaba, I think this particular reform is applaudable
The best reforms are the ones that have multiple positive effects beyond the sector where they are directed.

Mandatory insurance means more funds for insurance companies. They need to invest the insurance premiums so they invest in the stock market. Companies in the stock market get cheap injection of funds for expansion. All of this means more jobs. More jobs means more money for consumers to spend on other sectors of the economy and more taxes for the govt. So businesses as remote as the Ankara seller or dstv benefit from a simple insurance sector reform because people with jobs buys clothes and pay dstv.

Same way infrastructure investment benefits all sectors of the economy beyond the physical roads the money is spent on.

But they are here telling someone who raised 20m in this environment how to start a business. If you ask them which business now, they will tell you pig farming.😄

They feel you can only do business when you are given 1 billion naira at a once.
Some of the poorest people in anigeria are educated people. Why? Because it seems our education has programmed our resourcefulness and initiative out of us. I was having a discussion on Nairaland a few weeks ago and I told someone my gardener makes over 400k a month. He said I was lying. I said instead of working for one person, he does part time at multiple houses in the same estate. When I calculated his minimum (1 day a week for which he often only does a few hrs) and the number of houses he works for. He makes over 400k.

A graduate will work for 100-200k, a professor will work for 500k, yet electricians, mechanics, plumbers can make 20-100k a day (400k to 1m+ a month) and they are never short of work.

Tell an educated Nigerian he can go into business and compound his capital. He wants you to tell him how and guide him in how to make the money.

There really is something wrong with the products of our education system when a PhD holder (an expert in a particular field) with N20m (capital) and a diploma in business ( basic knowledge of business) cannot think of a business to do in Nigeria or how to commercialize her expertise in Nigeria.

If all you want to do is argue over the classification of FCMG, I suggest you take your N20m and go and clean bottoms in England because people like you will not make it anywhere. The point for serious people is wholesale products you can turnover quickly.

To the OP and those who are serious, here is the tweet below. Also are adverts for cement by the truckload. It’s not the business you are in but how you apply your education to your business. If you can supply 2-3 a week or 10 trucks a month at the minimum margin of 100N, you are making 1m a month. You model your business such that It goes straight from the factory to your customer. No shop, you don’t own the trucks, no nothing Just a distributors license, adverts, marketing, Networking, and a phone. As you can see these are orders for bulk sales. You are not selling by by the bag. As you expand you and develop a name you can either expand or diversify into other high margin businesses. It’s not a high margin business by any measure but the point is there businesses you can do to turnover your money.

It was actually 10m he said for a trailer not 20m
