Zambia's Minister of Higher Education Nkundu Luo has called on female students to take their education seriously and stop spending time cooking for their boyfriends. Kitwe Times said the Minister expressed disappointment that female students in some higher learning institutions have added extra responsibilities to their academic time-table. “What I know is you come to school to learn and not to cook. Anybody who is doing that must stop, pay attention to school,” Prof Luo said. “There is nothing exclusive for men, women can do anything. Boys should stop making girls to cook for you,” she said. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/02/female-students-should-stop-cooking-for.html

Mr Terver Akase, the Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor, Ortom, on Saturday escaped death in motor accident allegedly caused by one Mrs Abigail Ochai, who slept off while driving and rammed her car ran into the CPS' car. The accident severely damaged the front side of the official Toyota car, close to the driver's spot with the CPS and his wife however unhurt at the time of the incidence which left many amazed at the miraculous and narrow escape of the family. Below is a post Akase published on his Facebook page, narrating the event leading to the accident: "I woke up this morning with two write-ups on my mind. The first was to announce and invite my friends to our thanksgiving mass coming up on Sunday, the 19th of this month in Agbeede, Konshisha local government area (see attached picture of invitation card). The other article on my mind was about today's International Day of Women and Girls in Science. I equally cherished the 2nd article and wanted to use it to tell our young sisters to embrace the study of science as the future of our state and country. I planned to also tell our dear young sisters what their Governor, Samuel Ortom is doing to secure their future through education. After meeting with His Excellency, the Governor (as we do every morning), the Special Adviser, Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua and I met to strengthen our preparations for Monday's Stakeholders' Forum which is to be hosted by the Governor. After our meeting on the coming stakeholders' forum, my wife Jessica joined me in continuation of our little plans for the February 19 thanksgiving mass. It was while we briefly stopped near Doo Palace to give a friend the invitation card to our event that a Toyota camry coming from the opposite direction which had left its lane rammed into our car (see attached picture). But God intervened and no one was hurt! The woman (driving), Mrs Ochai whose car hit ours said she had dozed off. I told myself that this could happen to anyone. So everyday must be a day of thanksgiving to God. His works are awesome. Thanks to all who have either sent messages here or privately. We appreciate. You can agree with me that we have one more reason to thank God on February 17. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/02/photos-chief-press-secretary-to-benue.html

The Bayelsa government has donated 1,200 hectares of land to cattle herdsmen to control indiscriminate grazing in the state. In December 2016, the government restricted the activities of herdsmen in the state to the Bayelsa Palm area in Yenagoa, the state capital. According to the government, the decision was to prevent the invasion of farmlands and check any security breaches. During an interactive session with stakeholders on Sunday, Shitu Mohammed, state chairman, Cattle ranches management and control committee, said the 1,200 hectares of land was for ranch development, grazing and slaughtering of cattle. He said more ranches would be donated to the cattle rearers in order to maintain peace and order in the state. Mohammed commended the Bayelsa government for releasing the land, saying the gesture would help to sustain the lasting peace that had existed between herdsmen and farmers in the state. He also noted that the committee was set up by the state government to foster cordial relationship between the cattle rearers, farmers and the people of the state. “This is simply because the committee in collaboration with the state government and the security agencies had put in place quick response mechanisms,” he said. He called on the people of the state to appreciate the provision of the ranch as it will create job opportunities and boost tourism in the state. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/02/bayelsa-donates-1200-hectares-of-land.html cc lalasticlala |

The Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu on Monday said Nigeria has planned to build and launch two additional satellites to space to improve local communication capacity. This is coming as the Minister warned that Nigeria must not scare away MTN as lawmakers investigate alleged illegal money transfers just three months after the government fined Africa’s biggest telecoms firm over $1 billion. Shittu said the new satellites will be build using a $550 million loan from the Export-Import Bank of China, which will cover 85% of the cost while Nigeria will finance the other 15 per cent. The minister, thereby call on domestic and foreign investors to take part in the funding. Recall that the minister had during a town hall meeting in Kaduna on the one year anniversary of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, said legislation would be made to protect investment, patronage and compel Nigerian institutions to host their information locally. He said then that Nigeria would launch two additional satellites to space to improve local communication capacity because businesses in Nigeria were skeptical of linking the only satellite Nigeria has because of fear of crash. http://www.newshelm.com/2017/01/nigeria-to-launch-2-new-satellites-with.html

Apostle Johnson Suleiman, Senior pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, has instructed ordered that any Fulani herdsman found around his Church should be killed. He gave the order while addressing his congregation. The Minister claimed that an unnamed person called him to inform him of a plan to use fulani herdsmen to murder him. Apostle Suleiman said, somebody called me and told me ''that there is a plan to send Fulani herdsmen after you and I said ok and the person said I should be careful and I said careful of what. He said the herdsmen are just going to run into the road like herdsmen and begin to cause confusion and while your security men clear them and you come out, they will open fire. I said okay. ''After about a week, he called me and said please, if you don't do that, they might bring them to come around church premises. I said its okay. And I told my people, any Fulani herdsman you see around you, kill him. I have told them in the church here, that any fulani herdsman that just entered by mistake, Kill him, Kill Him. Cut his head. If they are busy killing christians and nothing is happening, we will kill them and nothing will happen."
