Phones / The Christmas Gift I Am Getting From Airtel by cevek11: 8:51pm On Dec 24, 2015
So I was robbed on Sunday morning (20/12/2015), and my phone was taken.

First thing I did was to call the customer care centre to block my line knowing that the number is attached to my bank account and can be use to move money through this new services bank's are offering (dial and recharge/transfer). They said it will take 24hrs.

This didn't sit well with me so I went to their experience center on Monday (21/12/2015).

TILL TODAY THE SWAP IS STILL PENDING... And Christmas is tomorrow... And this line controls 99%of my communications.

l repeated the visit on Tuesday and Wednesday and it was just promises after promises that they will resolve it same day.

On Wednesday I discovered they were just posting me, as they really had an issue with swapping and don't know when they will resolve it.

tongue Told you.

Yes OP, next of kin can be contacted and he/she can lay claims to the account of the deceased in event of death except other legal agreement states otherwise.

And customers with large sums in dormant accounts are usually contacted to reactivate their accounts. And if no response after a while, next of kin would be contacted.

Are you sure they are contacted? I have not heard of one... ever!
Business / NEXT OF KIN... What Really Is The Essence? by cevek11: 6:17pm On Dec 10, 2015
So with most forms that have to do with money/investments one is asked to provide details of your next of kin...

It would seem that when something happens to you, the other party would proactively contact your ‘next of KIN’?

I really don’t think this happens!

So I ask, has anyone ever been contacted by a Bank/Investment institution to say,
...“we discovered our customer’s account has been dormant for a while and made several attempts to reach them but failed.
Kindly help with a verifiable update on the customer and if dead come in to claim their funds/items”.

if not, shouldn't there be law to mandate such?

It is not sinful if you do it with your wife. I think christians should take their time to read and understand the bible very well before jumping into conclusion.
Even with your wife, it is sinful... We are to have control over our desires. Why start what you won't finish? That's a waste of time, energy, resource... Was sex made for reproduction or enjoyment? (Look at the animals and find out). We really shouldn't make up excuses to satisfy ourselves... self-control! Discipline!! Obedience!!! If you study your wife you will know when to have 'non-resultant' sex

Once upon a time I said my mum was not the best cook in the world... (don't get it twisted, the statement was made from the deepest loving part of my heart, and the purpose was to emphasize an importance fact of Mothers).

However, that statement shocked my little audience.

Today I would like to ask us, 'Nairalanders', "IS YOUR MUM THE BEST COOK?"

NOW CONSIDERING YOU HAVE WIFE IS YOUR AMSWER THE SAME?

Let the debate start...

So because he asked you where you stay...?

How sure are you that you answered the other questions well?

You last sentence tells me you didn't...

My advice, get on google and research interview questions and the best answers... You should see what went wrong...

Iamtosin:
With heart and eyes filled of tears I write this and I want everyone to learn from my experience

I passed the bank's entry level test last year November, I wrote another test this year Feb, then I passed, scaled through the first interview and also the second interview which was a panel interview.

I then got called to come for a final one which was a chat with the group head.

From our conversation I knew I was going to have a problem with the man. I never knew he was a deeper life man. I was neatly dressed with nice hair cut. At the end of our conversation when he asked which area of lagos I stay and I told him, his countenance changed and told me 'you can go' without the conventional 'do you have any questions for us'

Few minutes ago, I got a message that I wasn't recommended after all what I sacrificed for this job. I will never forget this experience and I think I will always hate anyone that bears this man's name

Science/Technology / An Alarming New Way To Steal Your Passwords by cevek11: 1:54pm On Apr 24, 2015
At a restaurant, you pull out your phone to check email. Without even thinking about it, you tap in a PIN to unlock your phone. Your back’s to the wall and nobody can see what you’re typing, so there’s no reason to worry that somebody could intercept your passcode.

Except, sadly, there is. Researchers at Syracuse University have demonstrated that hackers can guess PINs by analyzing video of people tapping on their smartphone screens -- even when the screen itself isn’t visible. Software used to analyze such video relies on “spatio-temporal dynamics” to gauge the distance from the fingers to the phone’s screen, and then approximate which characters the fingers tap on a keypad. “It’s like lip reading,” says Vir Phoha, an engineering and computer science professor at Syracuse and co-author of a paper on the technology. “Based on hand movement and the known geometry of the phone, we can see which keys are pressed.”

There don’t appear to be any known instances of hackers stealing PINs this way, but technologists think it’s only a matter of time. “We believe that it is very likely to be adopted by adversaries who seek to stealthily steal sensitive private information,” Phoha and three others Syracuse researchers wrote in their paper, published last year by the Association for Computing Machinery. The technology is fairly simple for anybody familiar with programming, and the exploding use of smartphones provides many millions of targets.

On top of that, the increased use of phones for banking and managing other financial accounts makes PINs a lucrative prize for hackers.

There are limits to such image-analysis technology. It’s harder to detect PINs when people type them with two fingers rather than one, for example. The use of a full keyboard instead of a 10-character phone-style keypad makes it harder still, as does the use of capital letters and symbols that aren’t on a 10-character pad. And fingerprint validation in lieu of a PIN solves the whole problem, even though it’s available on only a small portion of smartphones at the moment, and not at all on ATMs and other gadgets requiring PINS.

As always, countermeasures will ensue if unseen PIN hacking were to grow into a major problem. Smartphone makers could create keypads that appear in different locations on the screen every time, foiling pattern-recognition algorithms that rely on consistent spatio-temporal dynamics. Keypads that jumble the 10 numerals in a different random order during each use might also do the trick, though they could also drive users crazy and encourage them to ditch the passcode because it’s too much trouble.

Meanwhile, protecting yourself against sneaky PIN hacking wouldn’t be difficult, once you know what to do. Keeping your phone completely out of sight when entering a PIN or other sensitive data is the most obvious step. Newer iPhone and Android devices allow you to choose a longer, more complex alphanumeric passcode over a simple 4-digit one (although typing it in can be a pain). And practicing good security—by using two-factor authentication, password-tracking apps and so on—helps improve security and speed the notification time if somebody has infiltrated your accounts. It’s probably safe to assume somebody is always watching. Sooner or later, they will be.

Health / What Is The Toilet Seat And Do You Us It? by cevek11: 5:57pm On Apr 13, 2015
Entering into a male public restroom, I saw urine on the ceramic seat. I thought to myself "some people are just dirty and inconsiderate. Why can't they put down the rubber/plastic cover with a hole in it". At least, this ensures pee will not get to the ceramic that people put their buttocks on. Now wanting to report this, I googled to get the name of that 'plastic' and got a shocker revelation shocked...

The plastic is called the 'toilet seat'. I didn't believe the results so I started asking and some people say they always sit on it, it's comfortable, its for toilet training for kids, etc... I was like, even in my house, I have never sat on it. Always seen it as a urine protector for guys (u know we de pee anyhow take scatter everywhere, especially for morning). It even looks fragile...

So Nairalanders, do you use the seat or ceramic? Which is safer, and which is healthier?
