I'm not going to give you time out of my day to read your entire post but the day I see men dying to save women and children will be the day I will revoke my feminist card. on the titanic, there just happened to be one good captain who gave the orders. now if that (feminist)captain could be cloned, there will be far less monkeys like pleep roaming the face of the wretched earth. |
ps: On the titanic, you should try looking at objective sources rather than romanticized movies and novels (I know it's difficult for you as a gay male). Women and children have always suffered most harshly under sexist conditions throughout history. Feminism and women's rights movements won't exist otherwise. Try picking up a history book. There is no legal basis for the protocol of women and children first — according to International Maritime Organization regulations, ships have 30 minutes to load all passengers into lifeboats and maneuver the boats away.[11] History has furthermore shown that application of the protocol has been the exception rather than the rule. An Uppsala University study published in April 2012, found that historical survival rates have been in favor of adult males rather than women or children. The paper analyzed 18 maritime disasters covering a period of one and a half centuries, from 1852 to 2011. The same study found that crew members have a relative survival advantage over passengers. The particular case of RMS Titanic is therefore not representative of maritime conduct in general.[12] Lucy Delap of Cambridge University argues that this myth was spread by the British elite to prevent women obtaining suffrage (voting rights). They said, 'look at the Titanic, there is no reason to give women the vote because men, even when facing death, will put the interests of women first'. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn22119-sinking-the-titanic-women-and-children-first-myth.html |
look here coon, it's really not your fault. You have mentioned all over Nairaland that your dead-beat father left your mom for a british woman and you grew up watching your fat mother rub bleaching cream on her face. I hear you and I have heartfelt pity for you. seriously.. But Plz..plz... don't carry your self-hating frustration on me and my cute happy baby picture . Oya, run along and go jump into a lagoon. |
when do these men actually get time to rule the country? i.e fulfill their actual presidential responsibilities. rotfl |
^ I thought it was an Ugandan syndrome? Remember Idi Amin's title: https://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39408000/jpg/_39408799_picgallpresidentap.jpg His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea, and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular. He had 5 wives with 35-40 children. who can contest that? ^ |
THERE WAS massive police presence at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi when the Gambian President, Alhaji Sheikh Prof. Dr. Yahaya Abdul Aziz Jamus Junkung Jammeh tied the knot with his 22-year-old Ghanaian wife, Nora Jammeh last weekend. https://ghanareporters.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/20120904-091445.jpg 22-year-old Ghanaian wife, Nora Jammeh The wedding ceremony was held in secret, reportedly at the instance of the Gambian president, to prevent the media, both in Ghana and the Gambia, from making so much noise about the event. But pictures of the festive event which was attended by some government officials, had found their way into the public domain, once again due to the investigative acumen of Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye of Kessben FM in Kumasi. |
pleep: Gay guys don't disagree with women.. they are the biggest feminists.Just because you are a gay guy who has never disagreed with a woman doesn't make you spokesman for all gay people. who said all woman and gays were feminists? Some of the staunchest anti-feminists on the planet are women. ex. this thread starter. |
dayokanu: Jealousy is a female traitsure. women are jealous, men are envious. whatever rocks your boat. pleep: You guys are acting like a bunch of bitches. All off you. Can we stop this pissing contest so we can get back to talking about important issues, not these pre-school Boys vs girls crap?there are lots of gay guys on this website. |
^ women are more social so for every enemy, we have ten friends but a guy can't do the same. I smell jealously from the guys |
J12: Another crapdid I strike a nerve? I think so. Physical strength only makes you a prime candidate for slave labor. In this 21st century where machine has replaced the man in many work places, physical strength is not worth much anymore. Women are just as powerful a men on all levels. Infact, we are more powerful. ![]() dayokanu: Calling another man to protect you abi?*911* represents an institution. It is the law. *911* is bigger than any man so don't get it twisted. |
pleep: Men protect their women from other people. Look at it simplistically; humanity is divided into different tribes and ethnic groups. In each tribe the males compete with the other tribes to bring resources to their families (women and children). You talk about sexual assult, well the largest mass rape in human history occurred when the Russian army captured Berlin in WW2. All the men were dead so there was no one to protect the German women from the soviet troops.you are crazy. blacks are physically stronger than whites. so how do you explain that the blacks were used as slaves for hundreds of years? protecting their females my azz. I'd rather look to a white person for protection than a black man who I, in reality, should be more scared of. thank God for technology and the police. and stop romanticizing a movie. men don't sacrifice their lives for women anymore than women sacrifice their lives for men. and your so called "traditional women" tend to be ignorant or bitter women who have lived miserly lives and therefore are jaded and disillusioned. they ill-advice their daughters and friends because they do not expect much. This goes to women who send their sons to school but refuse to send their daughters. Why do you think that when women come to the USA from the village, they discard their "traditional" ideas after tasting freedom for the first time. In fact they become more liberal than the westerners sef. Most of these yeye women, once they've experienced what it's like to be free will never turn back. that's the truth... I'm glad men are getting happier in western countries. I wonder what that statistic looks like in middle east, africa and sexist parts of asia. these men do not know that they are working against themselves. |
@pleep, who are the men trying to protect women from? wild animals? aliens? falling meteors? when women are relegated to a weaker position in society, men are more often their predators NOT protectors. as far as i'm concerned, the best protector for a female is a piece of technology (hand gun, taser etc). The second closest alternative is *911* ![]() Sisi_Kill: On slightly off topic-ish note, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija has been named Africa's Richest woman, she sat down for an interview and right in the middle of all the things she's achieved they still manage to ask her kitchen and cooking question.rotflmao. I won't be suprised if Gift was a woman. There are many women who are, for lack of better word, 'enablers' of sexism in society. They are women whose role is to help men keep women down in "their place." They do it partially out of surrender or fear or sometimes just plain ignorance. |
legendprac: Have been reading in silence, but ur post here is just dumb... How come d book is still celebrated by d new generation?duh because it has become a "classic" book that's required in schools. don't lie there are some books that are "required reading" in schools that you find rather dull. "Things Fall Apart" was one of those books for me. The writing is subpar and plot simplistic. It just happened to be published at the right place (UK) at the right time (1958) when oyinbo people were curious about independence movements in Africa. |
Her stomach looks like she ate a very large serving of sweat inducing hot pounded yam and steaming egusi soup and then finished it off with two bottles of coke before putting on her dress to go to the event. The dress wouldn't fit so she cut the front off. She should have stayed home. |
hmm ok. you didn't answer my question. |
thanks, but what are you doing on this thread? ![]() Are you also one of those who are suffering for their beauty? rotfl |
The funny thing is that after the igbos surrendered, Nigeria integrated the east seamlessly and peacefully. we forgave the biafrans and were happy to have them back in Nigeria!! Most other countries would have executed the leaders for treason.we didn't. Heck, we recently threw a party for Ojukwu on his burial ![]() Can these neurotic Igbos explain to me why this is? It does not resemble genocide by any stretch of the imagination. and I bet most of them are typing from their bedroom in Lagos too. Even the igbos who recently fled from Kano are returning back to the north. Clearly anyplace is safer than SE. so why all the complaints? |
I change mine twice a year. Mr. Him:rotfl ![]() |
It's a nice conservative dress. But it doesn't look good on her esp with the make-up and cheap plastic looking earrings and shoes combo. Such a plain dress has to be paired with good jewelry (pearls, stones etc) and accessories to look good.and besides, it will look better on a mature woman or conservative woman. |
Hmmm beauty is in the eye of the beholder but there are many categories of "good-looking" For a "cute beauty". The advantage is that both males and females are nice to you and automatically assume that you are a gentle pure heart. THe first word they use to describe you is "innocent" or "cute." You receive lots of smiles from people. The disadvantage is that people assume you are naive or sheltered. Guys can become over-protective and women can demean you and make you feel like a child. For a "sexy beauty" things will be different, girls may be jealous of you and attack you for no reason. They assume that you want to steal their man. And guys may treat you like a slut or want to be with you for the wrong reasons. but overall, there are benefits and advantages too.You may have to mature faster than other girls because of the way you are treated from a young age for the way your body is shaped. You also will get your choice in men (good and bad) For a "classic beauty," people may not notice you as they should because other girls wear make-up and dress to look like you. So, since so many do things to look like you, you appear to be a dime a dozen. But when all make up is gone, everyone realize you are the real-deal. But it can be frustrating knowing that you have the perfect face shape, people who look like you grace magazine covers and tv commercials, you are a genevieve nnaji carbon copy, yet you don't get the superstar treatment you feel you deserve. But overall, you are treated above average and you recognize that. This type is more likely to contest in pageants or try to work as a model (if she's tall). For an "exotic beauty" people tell you all the time that you are beautiful but you don't see it. These beauties tend to be foreigners who most time are not even special among their own people but when they arrive in a new place, all of a sudden, you are treated as a beauty and it is a shock. This beauty is more likely to have lower self confidence. Also the guys who swoon over you tend to be a bit insecure or have "fetish" thoughts. so it can be work to separate the weed from the chaff. for a "graceful beauty" you are maybe average looking but you are bubbly and smile all the time. There is just that glow about you. It's what people call "inner beauty that shows on the outside" It may take a short while for people to see your beauty but they certainly dd see it. Most guys want to be friends because of your personality and then it doesn't take long before they want to be closer. THis type of beauty is best for sustaining a relationship. It is not superficial. So it depends on what "good-looking" category you belong in. You can add other categories |
I will take this opportunity to admit that I wasn't all that impressed by "Things Fall Apart" when I first read it either. I couldn't even finish "Purple Hibiscus" because I just didn't find it to be a very good book srry. Things Fall Apart became popular solely because at the time many African countries were gaining independence and it was an opportunity for westerners to promote a book written by an African. Of course there were other books written by Africans but Things Fall Apart was a simple book and it fit the uncivilized Africa narrative. same with Palmwine Drinkard, the other Nigerian book popular among westerners at the time. The funny thing is that most Nigerian scholars at the time were not impressed. But of course whenever the Americans or British promote something, it automatically starts to gain value in our eyes. Let us correct that attitude. Achebe and Adichie are probably wonderful people. but their works and writings should not be above criticism. |
afam4eva: Igbos that were very difficult to govern during the days of indirect rule were willing tools? Even you don't believe what you just wrote up there.igbos were not difficult to govern during colonial rule. I will say they were the easiest since they assimilated the fastest. In fact the British leaders did not even need to do anything, the missionaries alone were enough to do all the work of ex. for every yoruba person who adopted a christian name, there will be 10 igbos who did so and 0 Hausas etc Why do you think Achebe wrote "Things Fall Apart"? Igbo society was the easiest to dismantle by colonial rule. THey were never highly organized to begin with. |
To be honest, the rise of Igbos had more to do with their individualism, ability to migrate to the unknown, and their willingness to accept Christianity/westernisation at the expense of their culture... Suffice to say, the colonialists partially civilised the Igbos - and they saw Igbos as willing tools for servitude, period... Most of these people were psychologists and they knew what they were doing...GBAM!! "meritocracy" was just another tool the British used to colonize Africans by rewarding those who abandon their indigenous cultures and religions for western ones. This irony is a major premise of "Things Fall Apart" isn't it? Igbos will sell out even their family members in exchange for individual gain. No wonder there is so much disunity amongst them. and no wonder their society was the most negatively affected by colonization (loss of language, culture etc) Even thought the British hated the Hausas for their refusal to assimilate to western ways, they couldn't help but admire their leadership qualities and complexity of their organization system which was very centralized. Those are skills needed to be successful at politics. "merit" exams only show how well you can follow orders FYI. It is best for bank workers, civil service workers etc. But to rule a country? NO |
ACM10: ^What's your point? ![]() Last time I checked, Igboland is messed up politically and corruption is more rife there than SW. You seem to have your head in the clouds. One would think that Igboland was a 1st world Utopia based on the way many of your speak. ROTFL Just admit that you can't compete politically in the Nigerian system or any other system for that matter. If you always have to rely on others to appoint you to a post then srry you've failed. the point is: Politics is about taking charge and organizing people. and Igbos tend to be very individualistic which works against them in this regard. Individualism is good for petty business and small trading but it becomes a problem in politics or corporate, complex business that requires sophisticated organization. it's never too late to learn. |
