PoliticsRe: Chinua Achebe At 82: 'We Remember Differently' - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by cfours: 11:07am On Nov 25, 2012
But the larger point Achebe makes is true, which is that the Igbo presence in Nigerian positions of power has been much reduced since the war. Before the war, many of Nigeria’s positions of power were occupied by Igbo people, in the military, politics, academia, business. Perhaps because the Igbo were very receptive to Western education,
This is the most senseless part of the article.
because you have Western education DOES NOT entitle you to rule Nigeria. No one is going to chase you around to give you posts just because you speak British English. Before the war, yes, many Igbos held positions of power but that was because our colonizer, Britain, put you in those positions of power. THey realized your tribe was less organized and best at kissing azz.

Once the British got kicked out and left Nigeria, you lost your advantage and decided you want to leave Nigeria too. That's a cowardly move.
Maybe your strength as a tribe lies in commerce rather than in politics.

You can't have it all. And you just appear to be a greedy, self-centered tribe the more you whine.
PoliticsRe: Chinua Achebe At 82: 'We Remember Differently' - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by cfours:
I am proud of her as a Nigerian but to me, she lacks originality.
She comes off as an Achebe wannabe. Ever since seeing her TED Talk "Dangers of a Single Story" I have doubted her originality.
It was a powerful talk but 90% of it was recycled Achebe ideas that she didn't fully credit as a source.

Chimamanda,I love you but try to work on being original. People should see you as Chimamanda rather than as Achebe wannabe.
RomanceRe: Are guys Really Trained To Be Men by cfours:
pleep: look, I don't care what your saying... everyone knows my age, I do not have to prove it to you. I really don't know why you guys even care. Its the same damn argument every time, if you don't want to believe i'm 19 suck my dick mmk?

You are an overgrown, nasty, belligerent, ugly, bytch and you are a disgrace to black women world wide. I can smell your coochie from here. I don't even know why nairaland females associate with ppl like you because it just makes you all look bad.
19? All the while I thought this kid was 14yr old. Boy, grow up! I've been wondering why your parents are letting you on the internet
Man, only God knows a "maturity test" ought to be mandated before members are allowed to post on threads.
It's ok to be gay. but come on, grow up!!
FoodRe: Bad Yam by cfours(op): 6:17am On Nov 24, 2012
^thanks for responding.
my nails are not going to work on a yam but I will bring a sharp utensil to the market with me next time to test the yams. For now, I will be looking for color. but what else can I look for? ex. texture? is it good for the yam to be slippery?

you can tell I really love yams. But once in a while I buy the crappiest yams in the market and wish to prevent this from happening in the future.
CelebritiesRe: 'barbie Flu' Spreading In Ukraine by cfours: 2:01am On Nov 19, 2012
you people keep asking what will they look like in 20yrs.
You got it wrong. The question is: Will they be alive in 20 yrs!!??
I can only see self-destruction in the behavior of these girls.

Ukraine has a lot of problems generally. Unemployment, Drug addiction, prostitution alcoholism, suicide, HIV/AID (They have the highest HIV rate outside of Africa!) etc are rife among the people. The country is very bleeped up. I see no surprise in this story. These girls are just looking for means to escape reality but unfortunately, all the plastic surgery and make-up in the world won't transport them to a fairy-tale land. They will always have to face reality.
PoliticsRe: Governor Peter Obi's Multi Billion Naira Mall In Abuja by cfours: 4:40am On Nov 18, 2012
Is that what the Igbos mean by proper "allocation of resources"?
I like that definition. we want a mall in Lagos and Ibadan too o. Governor Peter Obi, please don't forget the SW grin grin

You can already predict what the state of affairs will be like in an independent Biafra just from topics like these.

Cunt_Destroyer: there is a difference between thick women and fat slobs. Unfortunately, there are more fat slobs than thick women.

Most disturbing aspect is the pot bellied version. You find chics in their early 20's sporting a spare tyre in the waist look and they don't even hit the bars.
My mum's 70's, 80's albulms have her posing with her slim s3xy friends with that afro charlie angels pose. Damn I was born in the wrong decade. Not only do I have to watch out for aids and sh1t but I have to seave through slabs of belly fat and cellulite to get a descent phuck.

Today's girls and women are, as a majority, amoebic in shape, gluttonious with their estrogene levels hitting the roof from so much man juicing that they begin to look like used house wives.

Gimme s3xxy not pork chops
yea but the men in your parents generation were complaining about the opposite. the women were too skinny and bony how can you have sex when you're grinding against a bone 90% of the time.

In fact they had "fattening rooms" where they put women so that they could gain weight. google it.
The ideal woman (not too fat, not too skinny) will always be in the minority. Just as the ideal man (wealthy and powerful) will also always be in the minority. Definitions change that's all. and the definitions have changed big time. Just 15yrs ago, the idea of praising a lepa shandy would be ridiculed.

Cunt_Destroyer: being fat will give you a coronary and a listing for a heart transplant.
of course I don't support obesity. Those women in the pics look like they could lose a few pounds.
but the overall message of my post is that times have changed. Underweight women like Agbani Darego would have be the ones suspected of being sick and unhealthy in the past. whereas now, overweight women are considered to be the sick ones.

ben4reel: Congrats! Miss felicia on your well deserved crown....reminds me of the good old days when the in-thing is being big. I once heard a man complaining about his wife's skinny looks and her inability to add weight despite the huge amount he spends in feeding the family. His cross was that outsiders would think him a miser and accuse him of not taking good care of His wife. Funny how time changes things. Now it's the skinny once that are holding sway....not for me though. I still like those with some flesh on their bones!
We have come a long way. Some parts of Nigeria even used to have "fattening rooms" where girls go to put on weight so they can become marriageable.
I think a lot of the change in thinking is due to westernization (esp. TV/media influence.) I still remember when Agbani Darego won "Miss World" all of a sudden, being skinny became cool when before it used to be mocked.
Most older Nigerians, at least my parents' generation, still have that "fatter is better" way of thinking.

Rocktation: I just find it peculiar, that a lot of Naija men get lost almost everytime..
And it's even stranger that they almost never ask their fellow men for directions...ponder..wonder..ponder... undecided.
hmm very astute observation. LOL

I understand where you're coming from of course.
I really just don't pity the guy. I have very little pity for the woman as well because she knew what she was getting herself into. I think desperation got the better of her. One week proposal hmmm

RomanceRe: Why Do Our Ladies Find It Difficult To Sit With Their Legs Crossed? by cfours:
foolish topic.
crossing your legs like that for extended period of time cuts off your blood-circulation.
why not put a show-chair in the center of your village for your daughter to sit on it cross-legged. maybe other women can see it and emulate her.
RomanceWhy Are Nigerian Men So Agressive? by cfours(op):
Imagine this comment from a Nairaland poster:

was trying to find my way to some place in surlere, lagos today. tried to get directions from a lady cos she was the closest one to me, said excuse me, started walking over to her so i could ask her if she knew so and so street and got the cold sholder. guess she tot i wanted to toast her. whats with all this female attitude problem?

Most women will read it and laugh because 9 out of 10 times, men who do that ARE trying to toast the lady. They will ask for direction first and the next sentence will be "can I have your number." The reason we give an attitude is to keep such men away from us. If 9 out of 10 men are woman-wrapper then maybe it's not the woman's fault that she's "playing hard to get" or giving you the "cold shudder" she's just trying to avoid unwanted advances.
Even if she likes you and is still playing hard to get. that means she doesn't fully trust you or she thinks you are a woman-wrapper who has to prove himself to be genuine. She has learned this from experience.

When you get older and have daughters, you will understand.

jidegirl12: OP life is a lesson , next time you meet anybody with good looks and a good job and proposes to you in a week into dating without you giving it a deep thought before following him go marry ....say No! I'm truly sorry about your loss and disappointment, I really am.
the one week thing is just too absurd. I still don't understand that part.

but I don't really pity the guy. There are women who agree to green card marriages for pay. he should have found a fellow criminal to arrange marriage with.
Imagine if this poor woman got pregnant or have children then it will be a headache for the wife and kids in naija when they arrive abroad and learn the ugly truth of a mess they're in.
FamilyRe: The Truth About Nigerian Men And Their Foreign Wives by cfours: 1:50am On Nov 15, 2012
yup. green card marriage. Don't understand why you (or any woman) will agree to such in the first place. To me, it's very obviously a sham. But like they say "love is blind" many women will see a pit right in front of them and still jump into it. He proposed to you within a week of meeting. hahhaaha and you accepted without questioning?

I hope you don't have a child with him sha. That would be a tragedy. The best advice is for you to get out of the marriage. Make sure he doesn't use you to get that green card!!
EducationRe: Canada To Deport 2 Nigerian Students by cfours: 2:36am On Nov 14, 2012
awww pity.... but these girls are lying. they knew the rules.
I have friends who did similar things (few yrs ago when I was in sch) they didn't get caught but we joked with them about getting deported if they ever get caught.I know life is hard and you "gotta do what you gotta do" but these kind of things give us a bad reputation as Africans.
PoliticsRe: Lagos May Buy Up Igbo Land by cfours: 3:58am On Nov 09, 2012
It will be a lost investment for Lagos to buy land in SE because igboland is very barren and you need fertile land for agriculture.
Fashola is sensible enough to know the best lands are in SW and North.

So much spite on this thread. I'm happy Obama won a second term but I can empathize with the republicans. I felt the same way when John Kerry lost to George Bush in 2004. It's a sad feeling.
