I remember advising you the other day on one of these Career threads to worry less and concentrate on making yourself better everyday.

Well, i still stand by my words. I understand your fears since you don't want to end on a negative note. Try as much as possible to concentrate on your studies.

Engineering is a very lucrative discipline anywhere. With a degree in Chemical Engineering you will definitely go places by God's special grace. You have everything going in your favour. You have that age on your side, the much reverred Engineering knowledge/background and your Parents are even sponsoring you, etc

Believe me when i say that so many people always wish they are Engineers. They are versatile and they have great analytical ability. If you doubt me then try and check up some job vacancies you'll see that there are more jobs for them than other people.

Please concentrate on your Chemical Engineering degree and make the very best out of it. Also, try and go close to the more experienced persons within and outside your field for more information

Incase you have some problems, please try and meet great persons like: Xfire, Davide470, Ajanlekoko, 2sexy, Dailynews, Godakpan, Ideology, Debosky, Jpphilips, Scantee, AroOkigbo, Jarus, etc for more advice. Follow them on this forum as these guys always say something sensible.

I wish you the very best brother!

Also, if you have about N15,000 - N20,000 you could get into the clothing line.

I did this in my 300 level and made some profits. I went to Aba and purchased some clothes and sold to people in school, friends, relatives, etc

Atleast clothes are not perishable items. You could market your products indirectly by wearing them. Trust me, people will ask where you buy your clothes once they see that you look good.

I started with Shirts and T-shirts. You can decide to sell to Bankers, etc. Then as time goes on you can add shoes, watches, underwears. You can decide to supply your items in bulk to some Boutiques, etc.

Wish you the very best

What advice do you have for an undergraduate

I've been observing your posts on so many threads. I've noticed that you worry too much over so many things. Well, there is no crime in trying to find out if you're making a good decision or not because so many people are scared of making mistakes which will affect them later

I'll advise you worry less and concentrate more on graduating with a very good result (a 2nd Class Upper from 4.0 or a 1st Class).

Chemical Engineering is a very good discipline and so many people would give up so many things just to be in your shoes. Don't ever let anybody make you feel that you "must" be a graduate of any of the top 10 Universities in Nigeria before you can make it in life

As long as any course is accredited in any Nigerian University you're good to go. Forget about the rankings of schools as those rankings exist as people's opinion at a particular time.

Think of the lives you can affect positively as an Undergraduate and when you'll be a Graduate. Add more value to yourself daily and success will definitely come your way.

Finally, i'll leave you with these few words to ponder on. . .

"If you do the same thing as everyone does, you'll be as good as everyone is. To excel, you have to exceed your limits"

I wish you the very best!

Hello people!

It is believed that there are many ways to work in the Oil & Gas industry. I would love the more experienced guys in this sector to please enlighten others on how to get there.

With respect to the "technical roles" for the Technicians, Technologists and Engineers in this sector, what are these necessary skills/trainings an SSCE, OND, HND, B.Eng, M.Sc, etc holder should possess to be given a shot in an On/Offshore job?

However, a few persons i interacted with did tell me that some skills like:

* Welding & Fabrication
* Scaffolding
* Painting, etc will be needed.

I would love the more enlightened people in here to please list and explain more on other skills/trainings that would place one in an advantaged position

Thank you!

Education / Re: Share your Examination Memories by Champella(m): 9:29pm On Aug 08, 2014
Well, having failed MTH 121 in the 2nd semester of my 1st year, i registered it again in my 2nd year.

I promised myself that i'll pass it no matter what. I registered for Tutorial classes which were held at 6:30am - 8pm, 6pm - 8pm (Mondays - Fridays) and 10am - 2pm on Saturdays.

Unfortunately, when the semester was in full swing i couldn't cope with the stress of going to school by 6am and returning by 8pm, then going for night classes by 9pm. I tried to solve some calculations on my own though but i knew i still needed someone who knew it better to put me through.

Sometimes I went to Main Campus from Annexe Campus just to see what was done for the day since my failed course did clash with my year 2 course.

When the date for the test was fixed, i just went in with the believe that something good would come my way, and fortunately it did come. I sat close to one guy whom i judged to have written well as i copied all he wrote

On the day of the the exam, i saw the Past Question of the previous set and took it to a senior Colleague in Physics department to solve some and explain things to me. Thereafter, i went into the exam hall

The questions were of different types, as my type was full of Integration. It was 7 Questions to answer all with each question worth 10 marks. Unfortunately, i was blank that day

I came up with an idea. I had to write back the questions as my answers while also cancelling my answer booklet just to make it look as if i've solved something as well as avoid submitting a blank sheet.

Exactly a week later, one of the lecturers who taught the course was to get married. Though he wasn't handling my faculty, I composed a very good text a night before and sent to him in the morning about 4:30am so that atleast he'll see it before leaving for church

This is the format of the text message. . .

dy/dx {Mr. Lecturer Mrs. Lecturer} = Sin x(My full names) Cos x (My Registration number) Tan x (My Faculty) 2CosxSinx(My department) Cot x(Happy Married Life)

After a month, the results were pasted. Luckily for me i passed. My C/A was 15 while my exam score was 31. This is a 4 Credit Unit course just like MTH 111, BIO 111 and BIO 121 such that they will affect you greatly once you fail them

In all these, i give God the glory as these courses have been failed by so many people from my faculty. School is filled with different stories. God has really been with me

cutiedave: hmm.y do u tink so,many pple hav adviced me to go for mathematics in unilorin

Mechanical Engineering in my opinion has the upper hand here compared to Mathematics

If you decide to go for Mathematics in Unilorin, i'll say make sure you have a very high CGPA in your 100 level and switch to Mechanical Engineering in your 200 Level

But if i were you, i would go for Mechanical Engineering in YABATECH then switch to the University in 200 level via Direct Entry. With an OND in Mechanical Engineering, you are in an advantaged position because:

* You can work with an OND in so many firms ranging from the Oil & Gas, Construction, Telecom, etc. Oil & Gas companies like Total, Exxon Mobil, etc and other Oil Servicing firms recruit OND holders and they are well paid

* This would readily give you the necessary working experience that would come in handy after you graduate with a B.Eng

* If you want to make yourself more marketable, you could explore some options in Mechanical Engineering by getting some skills in Welding & Fabrication. If you attain some level of proficiency, you can proceed to become an Underwater Welder and so many Oil & Gas Companies would come for you

If you check about 100 job adverts, you'll notice that recruiters are always asking for mostly Elect/Elect, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, etc Engineers.

You may think that i'm tilting towards the Engineering field, but the truth is that being an Engineering graduate will give you so many options

However, i can't choose for you but i think going the OND route makes a whole lot of sense to me.

Please, the more experienced persons in the house should explain more to him

sluvy4tune: Kindly remove Uyo from that list please. Uyo will be expensive(maybe in 3-5years) from now, but at the moment cost of living in Uyo is cheap.

My 2 bedroom apartment, in the heart of the town, interlocked compound with gate, fence round and well sized up bedroom I got it for 250k.( have also seen 3bedroom for 250k as well nice compound)The environment is cool & the house is a virgin house(freshly build) that's why some would say is that expensive.

My 3 bedroom office space with 2 toilet, interlocked compound also in the centre of the town went for 300k, thou not a virgin apartment but very decent and nice 3storey building.

Taking cabs/keke is also very affordable, the price ranges from #30 -#50, if you want a drop it goes for about #150-#200

Journey of 20mins is 20mins no matter the hold up (that's if you encounter any ) I leave my house by 8:49am to catch up an appointment with some1 by 9am and I am rest assure I will get there promptly.

Finally if you wanna relax/chill a movie ticket at silverbird in Uyo is just #250 grin my first time I tot it was a joke

Considering where I am coming from Abuja/Phc I consider Uyo the cheapest for now. An average abuja /ph Guy is a top notch celeb (money no be problem) in Uyo.
For babes matter na u go tire especially if you be Corper. Don't know why but ibom ladies love corpers wink Akwa ibom ladies truly know how to keep a man. Food and other wise.

Mbok if you see chicken for #200 u go delete this thread.

People are busy adding more value to their lives on a daily basis and you're here arguing on the inferiority or superiority of both certificates

So many silent Billionaires are having the world at their feet and others are just there arguing over what would not put food on their table.

The moment you start feeling that your certificate is a meal ticket to land a juicy job is when you'll start coming to terms with reality

For those of you who have not seen or read the job adverts by some Companies, i'll advise you do so for your own good.

Make no mistakes, as a fresh graduate you'll be competing with graduates from all over the world

If you graduate from say UNIUYO, UNICAL or even KadPoly, Akwa Poly, etc be rest assured that you'd be competing with graduates from top schools locally and internationally - UNILAG, OAU, UI, UNILORIN, UNIBEN, ABU, UNN, FUTO, COVENANT, PTI, YABATECH, MIT, Yale, Stanford, UniAberdeen, UniAlberta, RGU, Imperial, etc

I bet so many people haven't heard of Aptitude tests and Interviews conducted by the likes of Shell, Chevron, Total, Mckinsey, KPMG, PWC, etc. For those who have, please tell others. For those who haven't, please ask those who have.

These Employers/Recruiters/Companies have shifted their attention from where you graduated from to "WHAT CAN YOU DO" for us?

They are simply asking you what "skills" you possess. They will recruit you if you have any value to add to them

* You need a job and your Oral and Written English isn't top notch? Please just forget it
* You're applying for a job and you can't manipulate MS Suites - Powerpoint, Excel, Word, etc please stay back
* You're an Engineering graduate and you can't play with AutoCAD?
* You're using expensive smart phones yet you don't know anything about:

www.linkedin.com
www.rigzone.com

* You don't know about volunteering?
* You don't know about networking?
* You don't know about Jarushub?
* Your CV is not top-drawer?

Well, the list is just endless. But the truth is this. . .

"Be informed today. Information is power"

"Pursue excellence and success will chase you pants down"

If you say you're better than a Polytechnic graduate, well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it.

We should be thinking of moving Nigeria forward rather than engage in this type of argument.

We all have roles to play. One can't survive without the other.

It's just like saying a Striker is better than a Midfielder or a Goalkeeper is better than a Defender.

In all the nonsense i may have said, please try and pick the "sense" in it and leave the "non". Coz na u go smile afta 90 minutes.

Wish all of us the very best!

CHESSBOARD:
Not really bro.... Junior staff( OND) in Total earn more than 500K, in Nigerian term thats not cheap bro

Lord have mercy! If an OND holder in Total is earning more than N500,000, how much would an HND holder earn then? How about a B.Sc and an M.Sc holder?
