Yezzy:Hello brother! I have a few questions for you and those who are more experienced in the trucking business. They are: 1. How long does it take to become a highly skilled truck mechanic (e.g Mack)? 2. How much does the training cost? 3. Company or local workshops? Where would you prefer an aspiring truck mechanic to be trained at. What are your reasons please? 4. What is the market like for truck mechanics? 5. What are the top 10 states in Nigeria for trucking business? 6. What advice or suggestions do you have for a truck mechanic who trained in a particular state and decides to relocate to another state? I look forward to feedbacks from you and others. Thank you. |
Fongido:If I were you, I would have gone to make findings on where repairs and maintenance of boats are done. It depends on where you are based though. I think Rivers state has these places. I would become an apprentice for about 3 years and learn how diesel engines work. If it means you have to pay for the training, then pay it if you have the cash. You need to humble yourself and be very focused so you can learn it. Most apprenticeship programmes accept installmental payments. You may be asked to serve your trainer for another year. Based on your competence, you would start earning from it while you're on training. This would be in the final stages of your training though. Note: I am not a trainer or trainee. It is just a suggestion. |
OlujobaSamuel:Here are some links for your perusal. OlujobaSamuel:If she does not like the school I suggested, she can try another school. She can compare the school fees of various schools and the cost of living in these cities. About the location, you all should worry less. You would not be there with her 24/7 when she gains admission. I believe she is from a good home, so she wouldn't forget her roots. She would finally graduate and go for her NYSC in a state which could even be farther from home. As her elder brother, you can guide her on what to do to make her gain admission next year. But please, let her not change from Law. She just needs to put in extra effort. Let's assume the UTME would be written in April, 2018 and she starts her preparation this November (6 months), she would definitely score higher than 250. The Post UTME could be written say, after 2 months. With the same level of preparation or more, she would surely be on the merit list. I'll post some links here. I believe it would be helpful to her and others who may need them. |
OlujobaSamuel:Based on the scores you have presented so far, I must say that your sister is sound academically. However, I would suggest she goes for a less competitive university next year preferably, a state university. State universities are less competitive compared to federal universities. I would suggest Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST). To an extent, this school's admission process is quite transparent. The only issue is that state universities charge higher in fees than federal universities. It may not really be a challenge since she would be sponsored by your parents. If she made her O'Level in one sitting, then she has just solved about 50% of her problems. Please, encourage her not to settle for less. I can deduce that she loves the Law profession so much. Good luck to her! |
siliconville:I have more than 95 of his songs on my phone. My favourite song of his is "Group Areas Act". This song is my ringtone. My favourite quote from one of his songs is "Be good to the people on your way up the ladder cause you'll meet them on your way down". R.I.P Lucky Dube. |
Iamzik:Will joining the football team in camp get me posted to the capital of the state I am serving in? |
Skinni:No jokes, man. A woman is just complicated. She flashes you those green lights and when you decide to go for her, she changes immediately. ![]() |
Similar threads had been created in the past. I doubt if something tangible would come off this one. So many women on this thread are single, yet if any man declares an interest in them, they would just make things difficult for him. |

zionmade:I am neither an Engineering student nor graduate. By the way, why did you go for another Engineering degree? Did you run both simultaneously? |
zionmade:Na wa o. You mean you have B.Eng degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering? |
All right, thank you. I have sent you a mail. You can remove your email address now. |
Hello, Rien05 I would love to discuss something very important with you privately. Let me know if this is okay by you. |
Lamzee:Congratulations on your WAEC result. It is a decent result i must say. It must not always be UNILAG. There are very good institutions you can study in that do not require Further Maths. Based on your O'level result, i suggest you go for an Engineering course. Example: Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Electronics Engineering. Schools offering these courses are: UNIBEN, UNIUYO, FUTO, FUTA, UNIPORT, etc. Also, you need to take the financial implication into consideration. Some schools are relatively expensive while others are quite affordable. However, if finance is not a problem, then consider your chances of being admitted into these schools. Some schools are more competitive than others. Generally, Federal Universities are more competitive to get into compared to State and Private Universities. The subjects you would be tested on in the UTME are: * Use of English * Mathematics * Physics * Chemistry Finally, you need to score very high in the examination to enhance your chances of being admitted in any school. Good luck! |
It is obvious you love Engineering. Instead of going for another course, i suggest you choose a less competitive University preferably, a State University. Also, take your time to find out the amounts charged currently in some of these Universities for the following: * Acceptance fee * School fees * Hostel fees * Other fees Get in touch with some students of the school through this platform, whatsapp or on facebook. Some schools admit more than 100 students in each Engineering department. Good luck! |
GeniusDavid:I've been unable to access my e-mail for a very long time now. |
GeniusDavid:Hey bro I would love to discuss something very important with you. Please quote me as soon as you see this so i can send you my phone number. |

In the same University you mean? Well, if it is in the same university, i do not know if that is possible. But i think it is possible to do that in different universities. However, if you want to run both programmes at the same time make sure you are financially capable. You also need to factor in the stress you would face in both programmes. Pray that your tests, presentations, exams, etc do not clash. Ensure that you make very good friends in both programmes. They would come in handy when you are absent. All the same, if you are convinced that this risk is worth taking, just go for it. You will reap the benefits in the end. Good luck! |

Just go for it. You have a very good result. If you could make it in a Polytechnic, then you can make it in any University. All you need to do is to double your efforts and you will come out smiling at last. This job would take care of your school fees and some other bills. With the money you would earn monthly, you could start up something to earn more money like selling weavons, make up tools, clothing items for men and women, etc. In terms of clothing, you can sell these items to your fellow bankers and customers. This will increase your network. Another reason is that you would have gotten valuable working experience after 5 years. Once you apply to another bank with a good result at B.Sc level, you would earn higher wages and promotions. After all, it will not be indicated there on your result as "part time" once you graduate. Forget about the duration. 5 years is nothing if you mean business. You'll begin from 200 level and before you know it you're through. If you're worried about age, then that is not a problem. Nobody is too old to be in school. About 4 of my class teachers in secondary school (i believe they graduated in the 90s) went back to the University to obtain first degrees apart from the ones they had. The first, second, third and fourth went back for Law, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture respectively. The first who went for Law graduated about 4 years ago while the one who went for Architecture graduated last year. The remaining two are in 300 level. These men have families with children. You can imagine the responsibilities they all have. You don't need to entertain fear. Think of all what you stand to gain then channel all your energy towards it. Good luck, brother. |

Funminicrown:The more than 400 first class graduates you just posted is purely an exaggeration. Why don't you see it this way that admitting very sound candidates translate to quality graduates. A case of "Gabbage-in Gabbage-out". A similar case would be that of Barcelona signing quality players to win so many trophies. Does it mean that they are favoured by UEFA or the Spanish Football Federation over other football clubs? |
Na wa o. This thread still dey alive? |
The benefits i've enjoyed on Nairaland are so numerous to mention. This forum keeps me informed, educates me, relieves me of the day's stress as well as reveals various business and investment opportunities available in Nigeria. I'm tempted to say "anything and everything you need is on Nairaland". A big thanks to Seun, the Moderators, Super-moderators and all other members of this forum who make it very interesting. ![]() |
Donald Trump, a front-line US presidential contender blasts Nigeria for claiming to be the giant of Africa. One of The highest producers of crude oil in Africa without nothing tangible to show for it. 56 years after independence, Nigerian leaders still can’t deliver “ordinary” electricity, water, home-refined petroleum products, transportation – road, rail, water and air – infrastructure. Here’s a quote from Donald Trump: “Look at African countries like Nigeria or Kenya for instance, those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries. From the government to the opposition, they only qualify to be used as a case study whenever bad examples are required. How do you trust even those who have run away to hide here in the United States, hiding behind education? I hear they abuse me in their blogs but I don’t care because even the internet they are using is ours and we can decide to switch it off from this side. These are people who import everything including matchsticks. In my opinion, most of these African countries [like Nigeria] ought to be recolonized again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self-governance.” http://www.ritafamous.com/index.php/2016/03/13/where-is-the-change-donald-trump-insults-nigeria-administration/ |
