I understand Bro but I think it wasn't meant to be. It kills me inside. It's too bad I can't fight for this dream. financially do you know if I can afford to study in Ghana? Though Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron is costly but Ghana will be a different thing.
I think I have a failed career. It has happened to many. Early in life I discovered my talent. I have always been passionate about computer. I did magical things. I was always needed especially by phone users. I solved many problems for people. Many people advised me to study computer science after highschool but I didn't see what they saw. Now it's clear to me.
When life tells you “no" ask yourself honestly
What am I capable of?
This dream of becoming a marine engineer and being a chief engineer someday is dead but I must find another outlet and that's doing what I love. doing what I have passion for.
I hope you understand. Thanks for your concern.

If I were you, I would have gone to make findings on where repairs and maintenance of boats are done. It depends on where you are based though. I think Rivers state has these places.

I would become an apprentice for about 3 years and learn how diesel engines work. If it means you have to pay for the training, then pay it if you have the cash. You need to humble yourself and be very focused so you can learn it.

Most apprenticeship programmes accept installmental payments. You may be asked to serve your trainer for another year.

Based on your competence, you would start earning from it while you're on training. This would be in the final stages of your training though.

Note: I am not a trainer or trainee. It is just a suggestion.

Thanks so much for this. she had her result in one sitting. Will discuss your option with her and dad as they might both have issues with location..
The competitive nature of fg schs is the major reason she opted for lasu this year.
Grateful.

If she does not like the school I suggested, she can try another school. She can compare the school fees of various schools and the cost of living in these cities.

About the location, you all should worry less. You would not be there with her 24/7 when she gains admission. I believe she is from a good home, so she wouldn't forget her roots. She would finally graduate and go for her NYSC in a state which could even be farther from home.

As her elder brother, you can guide her on what to do to make her gain admission next year. But please, let her not change from Law. She just needs to put in extra effort.

Let's assume the UTME would be written in April, 2018 and she starts her preparation this November (6 months), she would definitely score higher than 250.

The Post UTME could be written say, after 2 months. With the same level of preparation or more, she would surely be on the merit list.

I'll post some links here. I believe it would be helpful to her and others who may need them.

OlujobaSamuel:
Good day all, my sister needs advice on what to do.
She finished her ssce in 2014, she wrote subsequent utme(s), had good grades(250+) except for last year but no admission as the scores seemz too low for her choice course(law) and league of schools.
This year, she scored 252, her choice school is lasu, post utme screening; 69.88, lasu offered her History Education, her preferred courses if not law are; performing arts, international relations, english lang or edu.
My dad and her is considering turning down the offer, while she opt for her 2nd choice(Redeemers Uni), if it's not yet late.
What do you suggest she do? Paying fees isn't an issue(no AUN pls), but my dad so much prefers a public uni.
Can she switch to other discipline at 200l in LASU without itch?
What's the potential of History Edu as a discipline in Nigeria.

cc: lalasticlala, seun, Fynestboi, olawalebabs, Richiez, abeg help

Based on the scores you have presented so far, I must say that your sister is sound academically.

However, I would suggest she goes for a less competitive university next year preferably, a state university. State universities are less competitive compared to federal universities.

I would suggest Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST). To an extent, this school's admission process is quite transparent.

The only issue is that state universities charge higher in fees than federal universities. It may not really be a challenge since she would be sponsored by your parents.

If she made her O'Level in one sitting, then she has just solved about 50% of her problems.

Please, encourage her not to settle for less. I can deduce that she loves the Law profession so much.

Good luck to her!

siliconville:
Today makes it 10 years since we lost a great South African reggae music legend Lucky Dube who was killed in an attempted hijacking in Rosettenville, Johannesburg on the 18 October 2007.

Lucky was dropping off his son at a family member’s house when the incident occurred.

Drop your favourite hit song, quote or lyrics in remembrance

I have more than 95 of his songs on my phone. My favourite song of his is "Group Areas Act". This song is my ringtone.

My favourite quote from one of his songs is "Be good to the people on your way up the ladder cause you'll meet them on your way down".

R.I.P Lucky Dube.

Very correct.

I arrived early to camp on day 1 and volunteered to join camp secretariat. Registered most of my fellow Corp member and was given a camp Official tag. I was exempted from all strenuous morning drills and parades. Had one of the best hostel Accomodations and when it was time for posting all volunteers wrote where they wanted to serve with their hands. I choose the state capital Makurdi ans got to serve at NNPC Depot.

Make yourself useful in camp. Add value and you will start rolling with those in charge. You don't have to bribe anybody

Will joining the football team in camp get me posted to the capital of the state I am serving in?

Similar threads had been created in the past. I doubt if something tangible would come off this one.

So many women on this thread are single, yet if any man declares an interest in them, they would just make things difficult for him.

I am neither an Engineering student nor graduate.

By the way, why did you go for another Engineering degree? Did you run both simultaneously?

Mechanical is not even as hard as chemical talk less of civil. The truth is that in civil the calculations are somehow straight forward, u can know wen u arrive at the answer. but chemical, my brother it's too complex. Before anybody quotes me, I have a degree in chemical and mechanical. I will prefer writing mechanical exams compared to chemical. civil na their junior brother.

Lamzee:
Pls I need help on the Course to choose out of the list courses, I don't have f/maths in my WAEC. UNILAG

Congratulations on your WAEC result. It is a decent result i must say.

It must not always be UNILAG. There are very good institutions you can study in that do not require Further Maths.

Based on your O'level result, i suggest you go for an Engineering course. Example: Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Electronics Engineering.

Schools offering these courses are: UNIBEN, UNIUYO, FUTO, FUTA, UNIPORT, etc.

Also, you need to take the financial implication into consideration. Some schools are relatively expensive while others are quite affordable.

However, if finance is not a problem, then consider your chances of being admitted into these schools. Some schools are more competitive than others. Generally, Federal Universities are more competitive to get into compared to State and Private Universities.

The subjects you would be tested on in the UTME are:
* Use of English
* Mathematics
* Physics
* Chemistry

Finally, you need to score very high in the examination to enhance your chances of being admitted in any school. Good luck!
Education / Re: What Does A Career In Mathematics Hold For The Future? by Champella(m): 2:55pm On Mar 14, 2017
It is obvious you love Engineering. Instead of going for another course, i suggest you choose a less competitive University preferably, a State University.

Also, take your time to find out the amounts charged currently in some of these Universities for the following:
* Acceptance fee
* School fees
* Hostel fees
* Other fees

Get in touch with some students of the school through this platform, whatsapp or on facebook.

Some schools admit more than 100 students in each Engineering department. Good luck!

The Pay is very much high, I know about Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (Rivers State). Considering the fact that they're over 1000 Companies under OGFZA in Onne. Average Salary goes in the range of Hundreds of Thousands and millions. Another High paying Agency is NDDC. There they make good money Legally and "Illegally" . But like One of the posters, said you'd need to have strong ties and connection.

Hey bro

I would love to discuss something very important with you. Please quote me as soon as you see this so i can send you my phone number.

In the same University you mean?

Well, if it is in the same university, i do not know if that is possible. But i think it is possible to do that in different universities.

However, if you want to run both programmes at the same time make sure you are financially capable. You also need to factor in the stress you would face in both programmes. Pray that your tests, presentations, exams, etc do not clash.

Ensure that you make very good friends in both programmes. They would come in handy when you are absent.

All the same, if you are convinced that this risk is worth taking, just go for it. You will reap the benefits in the end.

Good luck!

Just go for it. You have a very good result. If you could make it in a Polytechnic, then you can make it in any University. All you need to do is to double your efforts and you will come out smiling at last.

This job would take care of your school fees and some other bills. With the money you would earn monthly, you could start up something to earn more money like selling weavons, make up tools, clothing items for men and women, etc.

In terms of clothing, you can sell these items to your fellow bankers and customers. This will increase your network.

Another reason is that you would have gotten valuable working experience after 5 years. Once you apply to another bank with a good result at B.Sc level, you would earn higher wages and promotions. After all, it will not be indicated there on your result as "part time" once you graduate.

Forget about the duration. 5 years is nothing if you mean business. You'll begin from 200 level and before you know it you're through.

If you're worried about age, then that is not a problem. Nobody is too old to be in school. About 4 of my class teachers in secondary school (i believe they graduated in the 90s) went back to the University to obtain first degrees apart from the ones they had.

The first, second, third and fourth went back for Law, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture respectively.

The first who went for Law graduated about 4 years ago while the one who went for Architecture graduated last year. The remaining two are in 300 level. These men have families with children. You can imagine the responsibilities they all have.

You don't need to entertain fear. Think of all what you stand to gain then channel all your energy towards it.

Good luck, brother.

And so?
Does that justify why 400 students will graduate with a first class out of 1000 graduands?
Private universities are the remote cause of our fall in educational standard.
I stand to be corrected!

The more than 400 first class graduates you just posted is purely an exaggeration.

Why don't you see it this way that admitting very sound candidates translate to quality graduates. A case of "Gabbage-in Gabbage-out".

A similar case would be that of Barcelona signing quality players to win so many trophies. Does it mean that they are favoured by UEFA or the Spanish Football Federation over other football clubs?

Politics / Donald Trump Badmouths Nigeria's Administration by Champella(m): 5:35am On Mar 14, 2016
Donald Trump, a front-line US presidential contender blasts Nigeria for claiming to be the giant of Africa.

One of The highest producers of crude oil in Africa without nothing tangible to show for it. 56 years after independence, Nigerian leaders still can’t deliver “ordinary” electricity, water, home-refined petroleum products, transportation – road, rail, water and air – infrastructure.

Here’s a quote from Donald Trump:
“Look at African countries like Nigeria or Kenya for instance, those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries.
From the government to the opposition, they only qualify to be used as a case study whenever bad examples are required.
How do you trust even those who have run away to hide here in the United States, hiding behind education? I hear they abuse me in their blogs but I don’t care because even the internet they are using is ours and we can decide to switch it off from this side.
These are people who import everything including matchsticks.
In my opinion, most of these African countries [like Nigeria] ought to be recolonized again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self-governance.”
