naptu2:
It seems that you are trying hard to make this some kind of Supersports vs others thread. He didn't say anything about Supersports' financial muscle and most people have not condemned Supersports on the thread. But this thread is filled with many comments insulting DSTV. People tend to forget how much DSTV have reinvested in capacity development, showbiz and sports in this country. I think it's unfair. Let's wait and see whether any competitor will pick the NPFL rights and how good the club money and production will be. The Nigeria deal was the biggest SuperSport League deal outside South Africa. |
Sports › Re: Supersport Stops Broadcast Of Live NPFL Games by Chartey(m): 12:32pm On Apr 22, 2017 |
SlyCharlie: Kwese is a PayTV company. They have launched in Zambia, Uganda and Ghana. Its just one of dia channels that is Free to air, that is kwese free sports. Its owned by. Strive Masiwa, but it is headquarted in Kenya I think, it is not south african in any way.. . www.kwese.com would enlighten you. . They've got about forty world class channels. . They are launching in nigeria soon. . Go do ur research well I didn't know they had started pay TV now. Kwese however is under Econet Wireless owned by Masiyiwa, the Zimbabwean as you correctly said but please note that it's headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa so calm down. Even in the Ghana that they launched, it's only free to air. They bought an already existing FTA TV station and rebranded it. Kwese does not have the financial muscle to compete with even Startimes let alone SuperSport. At the end of the day football lovers will still subscribe to the service that offers the EPL, La Liga and the Champions League meaning low penetration for the others including the one that shows the NPFL. Also remember that Startimes already shows the competitions that Kwese shows and the CSL in addition. They also have more African TV experience and so will even be a better option. |
Sports › Re: Supersport Stops Broadcast Of Live NPFL Games by Chartey(m): 12:19am On Apr 22, 2017 |
naptu2: KweseSports is coming Haba naptu2 I expect better from you. Don't be sentimental. Let's even forget the Ghana League issue because that was because Startimes came into the picture promised the clubs more money even though DSTV gave better production. We all know SuperSport are actually showing these African leagues as some sort of CSI. They're reinvesting profit from showing the European leagues into local football. Our local football is not profitable for them and we should give them kudos for this. The issue here is to find out what this breach of contract was and whether SuperSport are not being highhanded. I however think SuperSport are strategically withdrawing from African football because of low returns and it's a very sad development in the short term. KweseSports has nowhere near the financial muscle of SuperSport and there's no way they can bring a better deal than SuperSport. It's just a free-to-air TV company that can't compete with pay-tv. How many OB vans do they own? Which experience do they have in packaging live sports broadcasts? Also remember Kwese is a South African company although owned by a Zimbabwean so they'll still have the similar interests as SuperSport. |

Education › American Graduating Doctor Marries Her Degree by Chartey(op): 11:36am On Apr 21, 2017 |
And the doctor and her degree lived happily ever after. Angie Hamouie is getting married... to her medical degree.
The 27-year-old from Houston, Texas is graduating from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in June and she’s celebrating by throwing what she has dubbed a “graduwedding.”
There’s going to be a wedding-style dress, a first dance with the diploma and, of course, graduwedding cake. Hamouie even created a website on wedding website The Knot to announce her union with her M.D.
“This was such a big deal for her, because it was the culmination of three degrees and nine years of higher education,” Hamouie’s Knot page reads (in third-person, like so many wedding announcements). “Her match represented everything she had worked toward. Angie realized this graduation would only happen once in her life. She wondered, why is it that no one really celebrates their graduation? And if she threw a party, how could she convey that this party was a Big Deal?”
So, after her “ enmatchment,” Hamouie planned a graduwedding. The party is set for May 13, and she’s invited friends and family to come join her on her big day.
“I didn’t think folks would take this party seriously because it was ‘only’ a graduation,” Hamouie told The Huffington Post. “I wanted to convey that this milestone is a huge deal for me, and I thought the best way to do that would be by pretending to marry my degree.” Hamouie, who is going into Obstetrics & Gynecology, explained that, for women, it’s especially important to celebrate a successful career just as much as we celebrate engagements and weddings.
“I feel that for women especially, we feel pressure to choose one or the other: the career or the marriage. And when we really only celebrate weddings, it sends a loud message about what we’re expected to prioritize,” she said. “The message I ultimately want to send with my graduwedding is that getting an education is a huge feat, and it should be celebrated as such.”
We couldn’t agree more, Angie. Scroll below to see some truly amazing photos from Angie’s graduwedding photo shoot. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_58f674c0e4b029063d34bb1e

gbosaa: I'm worried about Rangers. I can't believe it's the same team that played so well last season. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the league. They have not won any of their last five matches. They narrowly avoided defeat against zamalek, zesco, drew against Remo fc, last at Ibadan. They are seriously looking at relegation if something drastic is not done. The trip to Zambia will be a wasted journey. They have no chance with the sort of miserable football they have been playing.
If Christian Chukwu is the problem, pls pls let him leave the team and stay away from the team. Maxcollins042: Poor management and corruption. These are the two things bedeviling Nigerian soccer clubs. The real problem is govt ownership of the clubs. I don't see them doing anything in Ndola. Zesco will tear them into pieces. Remember Zesco is not a small team. The players know if they don't demand for their monies now nobody may mind them once they're out of the competition. I'm sad for coach Imama too although his tough-talking also raised expectations of the fans to unrealistic levels. |

SundryInfo: I wish to notify Nairalanders (especially those into importation) of the gross disservice I am presently suffering in the hands of UCSHIPPING (UcheLogistics) - a shipping agent that ships from China.
The importation business, especially one that involves 3rd party shipping like theirs, hinges solely on prompt, effective and reliable communication. But this is exactly one of the areas UCShipping have failed in. Their 2 contact persons in China – Lily and Uche - finds it extremely difficult to communicate via chats and even calls.
Usually, I direct my queries to both persons, but Uche would direct me to Lily, and Lily would ignore my messages. The very few times she managed to respond to me, her responses are so vague, with little details and she constantly referred me to their site to get answers for which she can very easily reply me immediately via chats. It was only on occasions that I messaged her on how dissatisfied I was by her communication that she dropped more detailed messages.
I would have thought that they are probably extremely busy over there, hence their indisposition to communicate, but I have other shipping agents I do business with and they communicate well enough.
Now to the crux of the matter.
Lily confirmed my goods arrived their China office on Friday last 2weeks and I immediately directed her to ship that same day using their Normal shipment that takes 7days. As usually, my message went unanswered. It was until I rattled her with an angry voicenote on the Sunday of that weekend that she promised to check on Monday. On Monday she confirmed that it was shipped that Friday she received it.
Today makes it 10days since it was shipped and the last time I communicated with Lily, Uche and their Nigeria rep, Ngozi, they all gave contradictory information regarding the status of my goods.
Lily said Ngozi must have received it along with goods that arrived yesterday. Uche said Ngozi will receive it today. But Ngozi, with whom I have been in constant touch and who seems to have the most reliable information, confirmed that she hasn’t received my goods.
Based on my experience in this importation business, I strongly suspect that my goods are either yet to be shipped or were not shipped as at when they purported it to be shipped, and UCshipping have refused to do the due diligence of checking their stock over there and communicating with their Naija rep here. Besides, na like this person dey take hear story o
I therefore appeal to Nairalanders to prevail on UCShipping to provide the real status of my goods. I apologize for shipping with them and I wont make that mistake again. Wrong thread. Call Uche and talk to him on phone. Forget all those chat thing. I don't think your problem is serious from what you've just said. That their business is very overwhelming, discuss with Uche on phone, simple. |
