Why won't it be a good teaching hospital? It is affiliated to a university with a full-fledged college of medicine, which has fully qualified professors of medicine and consultants, in attendance. In fact, I doubt if LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital) which has been in existence for over 50 years, can boast of the number of staff and equipment that ABUAD Teaching hospital currently has within its premises. So what is your point?


The same thing was said when Babcock University opened its own hospital. Now, the waiting list is so long, that patients have to book appointment dates for surgery, weeks in advance. Once a good healthcare facility opens, and doctors are able to certify that it is good, the patients would come. All it takes is a referral. We do not have adequate healthcare facilities within the country, so any additional one is welcome. Please pray this initiative succeeds. Do not kill it with your pessimism.....


People will come from outside the state. It is not for people of Ekiti State alone. I have seen patients travel all the way from Delta State to Lagos, just to be able to receive orthopedic treatment. Patients leave Ilorin in Kwara state to come to Lagos, just to receive chemotherapy. Patients are referred from Bayelsa to other states, simply because such patients need to access healthcare facilities that are not found within their state. I can give you real life examples. The management of ABUAD just needs to market their medical services to all the NMA Associations in every state of the federation. The problem in Nigeria has always been inadequate medical facilities, and not a lack of patients willing to use those facilities, if they have the right information and adequate funds to do so.

All ABUAD Teaching Hospital needs to do, is to establish low-cost affordable hostels and guest houses for patients that come from outside the state and their relatives, so they can have a place to stay whenever they need to go for treatment at the hospital.

I don't think you know how a teaching hospital really works.
It's not only about quality of service.
When you go to a teaching hospital as a patient, you know that you will definitely be used as a teaching tool. This is compensated for by the quality yet cheap care you get.
In this hospital, care won't be cheap. Will patients who pay lots of money accept being used to teach medical students?
Remember the most important part of the training is by the bed of the patient.

The problem here now is this. How will students clerk a patient who pays heavy money in this kind of facility. It may end up being a nice high-end hospital but not likely going to be a good teaching hospital.

And that's why religion is one of our biggest problems in Africa. It stands in the way of rationality and progressiveness.
Unfortunately we have religious leaders feeding fat on it and because they wield so much influence, politicians are afraid of facing off with them.

If this happened in the north, almost half of the comments on the first page would be about how useless the scheme was and how it should be scrapped.
Moral: people die every time. It's unrealistic to expect no deaths among over a million Corp members and these deaths could be in the north or south and through different means.

Below are unofficial pictures of the class of ACES soon to graduate (in less than a month) from the College of Medicine in the great Ahmadu Bello University, the largest and best south of the Sahara and north of the Limpopo. The school whose alumni are naturally ahead with students whose predecessors are so great and so unique in all fields of human endeavour.
We wish these soon-to-be doctors good luck and pray that the happiness in these pictures follow them through life.

Nobody is talking about the real issue here.
This hospital was designed to offer premium healthcare at give away fees. It was never going to be sustainable especially with a private organization involved that needed to make profit.
The commissioner was complaining about the monies they demanded as pay. Was he really expecting them to accept anything close to the peanuts Nigerian doctors accept (after strikes and insults from the public) from govt?

You're wrong to even believe TSTV lies in the first instance. When we talk, they say we're DSTV agents. Finally TSTV will blame the "cabal" for their failure after disappointing you same way MMM blamed the govt.

The most traumatised moment was on 9/11/2013 when my brother died right before me at Lasuth Ikeja after 23 days of sleepless nights with him in the hospital, going for dialysis at Dialysier Oshodi twice a week. Rest on Francis. The most scared moment was on 7/8/2012, when I had ruptured tube ( Ectopic pregnancy) around 11.45pm and about 3 hospitals rejected me from Mobonike Dopenu to Lasuth Ikeja down to General hospital Agege and finally Island maternity were the surgery was carried out within the space of 30 minutes because I was already weak. my BP went down as low as 55/45. I bleeded for about 3 hours, and l passed away. I thought I was dead but God being so kind brought me
back to life through praise and worship song I heard from the background. I opened my eyes and told my husband who was bedside me that I'm alive. I'm trying so hard to forget this 2 events but no way.

I don't want to sound insensitive but I feel you should credit the doctors who operated on you to save you in the nick of time rather than praise and worship. If they didn't, no praise and worship would have saved you.

They are offering data service for almost free ... You can use it to watch any channel that is not on their menu ... I went to their site and saw CNN amongst their news channels because you can use the data to watch it


For three thousand you have 10g of data and a WiFi enable device .., how cheap can it get ... Just that alone will sell the product to the youths and university students

Do you know Africa Health TV? It's one of the worst TV stations in Nigeria. It belongs to this owner of Tstv. Is that the person that will offer all these they're promising? Nigerians no go ever hear word like that MMM time. If una like make una call me DSTV marketer

These TSTV guys are actually reckless. I am really surprised that they brought the minister into this.
I believe that this is another MMM. Buyers beware. This is based on the following:
1. Bein sports acquired the EPL, Champions League and Laliga only for MENA (Middle East and North Africa). They do not have the right for Nigeria. DSTV owns the rights for Nigeria till 2019. You cannot give what you do not have. When a new service is launched, you have to wait for the next bidding round to have a shot at acquiring the rights. You cannot jump in the middle and start showing it. Things are not done that way in the PayTV world.

2.
A lot of channels listed like CNN, National Geographic, Discovery etc were acquired by DSTV on an exclusive basis for DTH in sub-saharan Africa by DSTV. Channels like Star Movies, MBC2, etc are only cleared for middle east and Asia. I really doubt that they have the rights to those channels. They may show it for one or two months before they are asked to take them off air.

3.
I check with a content aggregator on the cost per subscriber for these channels, assuming they can buy the rights, it came out the about 23 USD per month. That is excluding the sports channels. Based on today's naira exchange rate of 365 naira to a dollar, the cost is 8,395 Naira per subscriber. The content owners globally charge per month for their content. They do not charge per week or part of the month. The content owners dictate the terms. Nobody can pay 8395 Naira and charge 3000 Naira. Not possible.

4.
The cost of decoder package is as follows - decoder 25 USD, smartcard 4 USD, dish is 5 USD. Total is 34 USD (12410 naira). If we add shipping and clearing, you can get 15,000 Naira. To charge 5000 Naira for the package, you will need a lot of cheap money from bank to fund the decoder purchase. Buying 15,000 and selling 5000 sounds interesting to me.

5.
To do internet via satellite, you need VSAT equipment which is expensive compared to the dish/lnb you need to receive dstv. Minimum cost of vsat equipment should be not less than 50,000 Naira. If you use the traditional dish equipment, you can only receive. You cannot do internet with it. Unless TSTV will supply you 40,000 Naira vsat equipment for 5000 Naira.

6.
I went to lyngsat and checked the ABS 3A satellite, I did not see any information about any TSTV channels. Lyngsat is the database of all channels currently on satellite.

7.
When you launch a new DTH platform, you start with a test transmission. This allows you to work through some issues that might come up. It also gives people chance to see some of your channels to make sure they are real before committing their money. There is no test transmission from TSTV.

8. EFCC Fraud Charges
EFCC arrested this guy last year for fraud. Not credible.

In conclusion, people should ask enough questions before investing their hard earned money. If it is too good to be true, it's probably is. Let this not be another MMM.

This man also owns Africa Health TV. Anybody that knows that channel knows its one of the worst TV stations in Nigeria. How can someone like that offer all these things they've promised?

Nollywood producers will still prefer to give Africa Magic their new movies because DSTV pays them better.

DSTV has poured millions of dollars in into the Nigerian Professional Football League without any profit yet the govt did not give them any tax relief. I see this development making the NFF very uncomfortable.

TV stations like Soundcity and Hip TV will still prefer the DSTV platform because they pay them better. Besides DSTV is partly responsible for the acceptance of Nigerian music across Africa.

Many people are addicted to the shows Telemundo and Zee World which TSTV does not have. Not everybody watches sport. That was the same assumption that killed HiTv.

I don't see DSTV collapsing. They're in so many countries although Nigeria is their second most important market. They have over 200 channels with something for everybody.

People don't know that subscription is actually cheaper in Nigeria than for instance Ghana. Cable TV is a luxury everywhere in the world. Sky is expensive in the UK too.

This competition will be good for the Nigerian consumer and is welcome but people please let's not get our hopes too high. TSTV has to earn credibility and our support.

Programs like this one should be discouraged. There's no difference btw this and cigarette, alcohol adverts.
