CareerRe: Body Languages That Could Be Doing You More Harm Than Good In The Work Place by Chartey(m): 6:17am On Jun 09, 2015
CrazyMan:
When it comes to communication, as humans, most of the time, we express our thoughts and feelings non-verbally. Actions they say speak louder than words. And no, it is not another cliché. Think about this: we express anger and disapproval by frowning, we hold hands for solidarity and support, we twitch our lips and hiss to show contempt, and we fidget when we are afraid, to mention a few.

Body language or non-verbal communication can be very effective if handled carefully and could be very damaging if taken with kids’ glove. Here are some body languages that could be doing you more harm than good in the work place:

1. Breaking eye contact too soon: This can make you seem untrustworthy or overly nervous. Hold eye contact a hair longer, especially during a handshake.

2. Nodding too much:  Even if you agree with what’s being said, nod once and then try to remain still.

3. Crossing your arms:  This makes you look defensive, especially when you’re answering questions. Try to keep your arms at your sides.

4. Holding your hands behind your back (or firmly in your pockets)  makes you look stiff. Aim for a more relaxed hands-at-sides posture.

5. Looking up or looking around: This is a natural cue that you're lying or not being yourselves. Try to hold steady eye contact at all times when being spoken to.

6. Failing to smile: This can make people uncomfortable, and wonder if you really want to be there. Go for a genuine smile especially when meeting someone for the first time.

7. Stepping back when you’re asking for a decision:  This conveys fear or uncertainty. Stand your ground, or even take a slight step forward with conviction.

8. Checking your phone or watch:  In an important meeting or when being by your superiors portrays you as a staff with bad manners. Someone who prefers to be somewhere else than listen to them.

9. Having a delicate handshake:  Cultivate a professional handshake. Look the person you are about to shake in the eye, smile, greet the person warmly and shake hands firmly.

Hello house, been following this thread for a while now and finally decided to take the bold step. Big thanks to Mayorall, chudy144 and dav8id and others for helping me out. Please I'm about to make an order for 1000 pcs of debossed color filed silicon wristbands and the supplier is saying $400 as total price including shipping. Please guys what do you think?

Oga dav8id, I won't mind if you can still send me that proposal I asked you for o. Cheers
First of all, what is the size of the wristband?
What kind of design? Are there things like CMYK printing involved?
How much is the exact production cost? Because they can inflate shipping costs when they ship for you as you have said it includes shipping.
Nobody can give you a reasonable answer if he doesn't know these details.

I think it's in Nigeria but the Nigerian franchisee is not really doing a good job of pushing it.
EducationRe: Universal Concept Of Mental Arithmetic System (UCMAS) by Chartey(m): 10:31am On May 16, 2015
UCMAS is an amazing thing! I've always watched it in Ghana TV and I always wonder how children so small can solve such complex arithmetic without even delaying a second. I didnt hear of anything like that when i was small. I won't mind being a rep for schools here. All children deserve a chance at this.

Your comment reeks of ignorance! Where in my post did I "form doctor"? What on earth made you think like that? Yes! I am a B.Tech anatomy student, and I am not "forming doctor " in your words.

My department is under college of health sciences; Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (hence the term "medical students" in my original post). I never said I am studying medicine, so read and understand before you post a comment.

God! You're so myopic!
You're just talking now. I was wondering how you could be doing anatomy in 400.
EducationRe: Is It Illegal To Buy Dead Bodies In Nigeria? by Chartey(m): 10:26am On May 02, 2015
YinkaDiva:
Firstly medical students(MBBS/BDS) don't take their courses in units,so you are either and allied medical students or you are not even in medical school.
Secondly ,all medical schoola are attached to a teaching hospital. So the college of medicine is the school and the teaching hospital is for the patients.Usually the teaching hospital owns all unclaimed corpse and they sell it to the college. So its true that anatomy dept buys corpse from the teaching hospital .
Lastly, no matter the style of calendar you use,you can't be doing anatomy in your fourth year!In Medilag here anatomy ends in 2nd year, for most other school it ends in 3rd year.I suspect you are a bsc anatomy student.Stop forming Doctor!
You must be a carpenter. You hit the nail with so much skill!

Not that am obligated to give a response, but I would anyway. Yes! am a fourth year student, and autopsy is one of the topic we discuss under Clinical and radiological anatomy. You should ask questions when you don't understand something, rather than making baseless and silly assumption.
Please what school is that? In your fourth year, an autopsy should be done within the proper contexts in pathology. If you're doing pathology(morbid not clinical anatomy) then I don't see the need for a course called clinical anatomy at that level.
I have a feeling you just heard this from someone and rushed to open a thread.

HealthRe: Photos From General Hospital Otukpo, Benue State by Chartey(m): 12:43pm On Apr 21, 2015
Have these pictures been verified to be really from that hospital?

Those toilets don't look like toilets in an hospital ward. Even if they're in very bad conditions, they cannot be this bare. It may just be a semi-abandoned toilet within the hospital premises but not the toilets in the wards or offices. No nurse will work in a ward with this kind of toilet.

mrdrizzy:
Startimes and nta are partners just like facebook owner is to whatsapp's

we understand d fact that dstv have got premium channels bt d rate is humongous and it still increases

it baffles me how people keep using d money dey paid for epl as an excuse

dstv bought epl right to support its reign in western and southern countries(that is filled with over 20countries if my geography is correct),just like beiN powers nothern and partly east, dat is how epl segment its payment, alotta people fails to understand dis, jusst becos nigeria has d highest rate of dstv users in west and southern part of africa doesnt mean dey hve to pay for what other countries still watch at a lower rate.dis is insane!!

Now anoda excuse dey use is exchange rate, the naira is gradually growing(not reducing check last 2mnths and now), and hopefully it will come to a time where it will be back to normal,bt oga dstv rate will always remain the same,it never depreciate.

For me as a student, cnt afford to pay such huge price just becos i want to watch ball, which is why i've been with startimes for 3yrs+,atleast i get to watch 1 bundesliga match, uefa and europa champions league and other national competition free of charge(even without paying a dime nta sport shows),of which multichoice cant even offer on gotv, dstv family pack, hell even the compact that is above 4k now.

Also did i mention startimes recently purchased rights to broadcast the fastest growing league in the world(GERMAN BUNDESLIGA),all matches from next season, dey stole d rights from d so called dstv, and we will still get to watch total action for less dan 3,800

its time we know what value of money is..

Support your own brand and not others.
GOODLUCK!!!!
How is it our brand when it is all over Africa as StarTimes from China? It is not and not even close to being a Nigerian company. DSTV is a more Nigerian company with more Nigerian senior staff, junior staff, and input.

uboma:
First, no one disputed the fact as to whether Startimes is a Chinese company or not. China has made life all over the world a bit simpler if you want to be fair. Take a closer look at the appliances you make use of either at home or in the office, you cant deny the fact the fact you have either used a Chinese product in the past or currently using one.

Startimes is doing well at the moment and will improve tomorrow. lets all learn to appreciate and encourage good work no matter how small it may seem at present.

I admire your ability to argue objectively and how you respect the opinion of others.
Please it's not about China. China is the country I love most outside Africa having made good money from dealing in Chinese goods.
Let's just focus on DSTV and it's competitors. I agree that StarTimes will improve and that will be good for the Nigerian subscriber but will they be able to give content as good as DSTV's and charge lower? I don't think. Will they be able to pour N7 billion into the Nigerian football league and charge lower? I don't think. Will they sponsor the Nigeria basketball league and Copa Lagos and charge lower? I don't think. Will they have a rich family of stations like the M-net group and charge lower? I think not. Will they pay Nigerian producers for showing their movies and charge lower? I think not. Music royalties to record labels and charge lower? I think not.
I remember when all we had to watch in this country were those Arab channels using those big dishes. They worked so hard to become the market leader. HiTv came and couldn't compete. StarTimes will never be able to match the monies being remitted to content producers by DSTV with these subscription rates and good content producers will always take their work to DSTV.
Please let's be rational and not emotional.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Let Us Not Forget Startimes Is A Chinese Company... by Chartey(op): 7:24am On Apr 18, 2015
victor2008:
Star times is still doing well to me considering the number of stations they have, abeg forget DSTV moreso they defiled court injunction and still increase their tariff, to hell with them
It's about quality of content. Quality content is expensive to get. Original content is even more expensive to produce, that's why StarTimes cannot do those. If with all the rants and discontent by Nigerians, StarTimes still hasn't been able to make people discard their DSTVs on a large scale, then you should wonder why.
