Next Steps
Happy New Year!
If you made it through 2013 to now ,well you are among the elite. Very soon however all the noise and festivities will die down and we will all settle into the same familiar routine. Your editor calls you and assigns a story to you. You go for the event with your camera/voice recorder and then you do the story. Sometimes in a single day you may end up doing 3 or 4 stories.
Most of us regularly generate a lot of stories that are never used. If only the public knew that what they see in the newspapers or on tv/radio everyday is basically a selection of the “best” stories. However because news is a perishable commodity, on days when there are several great stories, good stories are shoved aside. I hate waste. So what happens to the other stories, interviews and pictures that the editor turns down. Do you simply delete them? You may be deleting good money.
Do you know that there are people who are willing to pay you for some of those pictures occupying space on your external /flash drive? Go online now and discover the opportunities that are available.
By the way, I don’t want anybody to tell me that internet browsing is expensive and they don’t have a laptop /computer. There are second hand laptops you can buy for N30,000.00 and N5,000 will get you a modem from any of the Network Providers. It is all about priorities. Many of us easily spend about N20,000.00/$110.00 on food and drinks during a night out with friends.
So look at it this way. The world has changed. The opportunities are now out there. Online. Remember:” Fortune befriends the bold”
“A man’s gift will make a way for him. He will stand before Kings. He will not stand before mean men.

Science/Technology › Why Is Nigeria Not Catching The Internet Wave? by CHIMSKY(op): 12:07am On Dec 26, 2013 |
The biggest thing to happen to the media is the advent of mobile internet.Unfortunately, the mobile devices that can take content to various mobile screens like, smartphones, tablets, kindles are often unaffordable for most people in rural sub-saharan Africa where most of the populace lives.A mobile internet device with a fast processor can easily cost $254.You can also access internet on cheaper devi...ces,but the experience will be slower and more cumbersome.Like I said above ,internet speeds are slow and access is expensive. There are no unlimited data plans, and those that are available cost too much. |

Family › Re: Divorce An Act Worthy Of Celebration? by CHIMSKY(m): 11:38pm On Dec 23, 2013 |
omoikhefue: . . . just this morning I was surfing the internet as usual and I saw this post about Chika Ike officially informing the generally public via facebook about her finalised divorce proceedings from her estranged husband and marriage of 7year (http://lindaikeji..com/2013/07/chika-ike-officially-divorced.html). It got me thinking is this something to be proud about? Earlier this month it was Funke Akindele’s hubby via the same facebook platform informing us of his crashed marriage. And again I’m thinking is divorce the new trend?
Divorce or the dissolution of marriage, according to the Wikipedia, the on-line dictionary, is the final termination of a marital union, cancelling the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage and dissolving the bonds of matrimony between the parties involved.
Prior to this time, the seven-letter-word was almost unheard of, not only did the society frown at it as divorced persons were viewed as damaged goods and generally termed a failure: it was even worse for women as they were excluded from social gatherings due to fear that they may attempt to steal someone's husband thus, divorced people would rather say that they were single and never married rather than be looked upon with scorn.
Unfortunately, the reverse is the case. Due to western influence, our society has lost her core cultural values and ethics such that divorce is now a way of life. The causes of divorce are numerous namely: domestic violence and abuse, childlessness, lies, lack of communication and commitment, extravagance, lies, high expectations, third party interference, adultery, religious and tribal differences, illiteracy, poverty, unemployment and so on.
I cannot but frown at the generation in which nature imposed on me. A generation where ENTERTAINERS are legends, ACTORS are role models, MODELS have become epitaphs of beauty, NUDITY the new fashion statement and a change of MARITAL status a synonym for fulfillment. In the nearest future( if it’s not happening already) just as we have parties in celebration of birthdays, house warming, baby bump, bridal shower, chieftaincy and the likes so would we also have for divorce with colorful asoebi and strictly by invitation cards to mark the moment. To those of us who are still single we are most lucky as we have the chance to get it right. Just before you jump the broom, understand that marriage is an institution and is therefore sacred but never because its societal expectations! Make you leave matter.person wey get the good sense to divorce should be applauded.Unlike some of us who are suffering and forming activity in marriage.Marking time.I envy people wey get the liver to talk say e don do them. |

specialguest: As I type this right now I am literally boiling with Anger. Imagine! I and my partner went to see the pastor today regarding our marriage plans and we met his absence. I decided to check the church office and behold I met his wife. The following conversation ensued between us
Me- Goodafternoon ma
Pastor's wife- Goodafternoon
Me- Ma, please is pastor around? He asked me and my fiance to see him today
Pastor's wife- which pastor?
Me- pastor abcd(i mentioned his name)
Pastor's wife- turned back stirred at me and shook her head then she said " I would have thought you were referring to someone else, how can you call my husband pastor abcd(his name) this is highly disrespectful. Bla Bla Bla Bla she went on and on about her displeasure.
Me- I am sorry ma, I summoned my fiance and we left.
Is it wrong for one to refer to his pastor as pastor abcd(his name) For christ sakes where in the bible was it written that we need to address our pastors as mummy and daddy?
By the way, the man in question would not have minded if I addressed him as pastor abcd o but his wife tongue lashed me even in his absence never to call him that again except daddy. Next time you go,ask her.Is our husband at home? |

DonColz1: The Pastor of the Household of God Church International, Chris Okotie, recently bought a Rolls Royce Coupe, the 2014 Bespoke Edition, to mark his 30 years as born-again Christian and 27 years as a pastor,SUNDAY PUNCHlearnt on Saturday. According Okotie’s close aide, the pastor spent N120m on the luxury car and had earlier spent N33m on a Range Rover Autobiography to mark a milestone of his church. The source, in a text message, said, “Pastor Okotie just bought a Rolls Royce Coupe, 2014 Bespoke Edition at N120m to mark his 30 years as a born-again Christian and 27 years as a pastor. He had earlier bought a Range Rover (Autobiography) 2014 Model for N33m, reputed to be the costliest SUV in the world to mark this ministry’s milestone.” Checks on the Internet showed that the cheapest price of same Rolls Royce model is about N65m, but it could be more expensive if armoured. Fifty-five-year-old Okotie was in the news recently for the controversial comments he made during a church service in which he claimed that “all Catholics will go to hell,” and referred to Pope Francis as anti-Christ. http://www.punchng.com/news/okotie-buys-n120m-rolls-royce-to-mark-pastoral-anniversary/ To paraphrase the late Benson Idahosa,"The God of Okotie is a mighty God.The God of Okotie is not a God of poverty.' |

greatestluv4all: Call it security finance or minimum requirements, how much should a family man always keep for his immediate family upkeep?
Considering demand from extended family and friends due to economic exigencies, a man does not only cater for his wife and kids alone nowadays.
Upsurge in foodstuffs, health care and high cost of quality education, one should be able to put a benchmark to minimum available funds for his immediate family needs and put a "coma" to father Xmas pending when his account is replenish.
I know this will also vary and will be proportional to personal income, so I will use myself as a guide.
I earn 200k a month and could rise to between 400k to 500k with other business, hence my benchmark is 200k.
It must never go below, sometimes it's above when request are not so much.
So, what's your benchmark or do you even consider it? Really? My own is 35k and that' s for Christmas week till January |

kmariko: Nigeria’s economy largest in Africa as rebasing boosts GDP to $405bn
December 19, 2013 | Filed under: main story | Author: PATRICK ATUANYA
In about three weeks from now, when the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) releases the rebased Gross Domestic Product (GDP) it will show that Nigeria has overtaken South Africa as Africa’s largest economy, which will have great economic and geopolitical implications. This is according to emerging markets focused investment banking firm Renaissance Capital, whose team of analysts were in Abuja, over the weekend. “We are revising up our estimate of Nigeria’s GDP by 53 percent. The NBS has nearly completed its work, and our new estimate is that a 45 percent to 60 percent uplift is likely, and we are taking 53 percent as the mid-point figure. We expect the data in January,” said Renaissance Capital analysts led by Charles Robertson, its global chief economist and head of macro strategy, in a research report released yesterday (Dec 18). “This means Nigeria, at $405 bn in 2013 would be the largest economy in Africa, ahead of South Africa at around $370 bn.” Other impacts of the rebasing include the possible reduction of growth rates to 5 – 6 percent from 6 – 7 percent, and an increase in GDP per capita to $2,400 from around $1,700, in essence moving Nigeria into middle income economy territory. “Sectors that may show the biggest upward revision range from Nollywood to IT and telecoms, while we think agriculture will shrink from around 40 percent of GDP to 25 – 30 percent of GDP,” said Robertson. The rebasing will show public debt shrinking to 13 percent of GDP from 20 percent of GDP. Public external debt would be below 2 percent of GDP, while the current account surplus may still be 5 percent of GDP which will leave the sovereign in a good position to borrow if needed. According to Rencap “In a Fed tapering world, these revisions make Nigeria look good, but credit rating upgrades (Ba3/BB-) are likely to be constrained by the most competitive presidential elections Nigeria will have seen since democracy returned in the 1990s.” The NBS is seeking to change the calculations of Nigeria’s GDP, using a new base year of 2010 to give a better indication of the size and composition of its economy. Most governments overhaul GDP calculations every few years to reflect changes in output and consumption, such as telecoms, financial services and internet usage, but Nigeria has not done so since 1990 (about 23 years) suggesting that the previous GDP framework underestimated economic activity. The numbers will have new implications for investors and the geopolitics of Nigeria’s place in Africa. “We would be very surprised if recent and pending investment decisions are taken on the basis of the 1990 national accounts,” said FBN capital research analysts led by Gregory Kronsten, in a note released in August. “The new GDP series will however be tracked by potential investors, such as suppliers of consumer goods and services,” Kronsten said. Nigeria already hosts the second largest debt and stock markets in Africa, behind South Africa. Its stock market is valued at $77 billion, while the secondary market bond trading volumes, ”certainly exceed those of Egypt and Morocco and represent around 20 percent of South Africa’s turnover,” according to Samir Gadio, an emerging markets strategist, at Standard Bank, in London. Overall – Nigeria’s debt, budget and current account ratios will look among the best in Africa and in the emerging markets (EM), once the rebased figures are released, notes Robertson. “We like Nigeria in the coming quarter – though we see domestic bond yields up a little, at around 13.5 percent on average. Nigeria is going to rise from 14 percent of MSCI frontier markets to around 20 percent in May 2014 which could attract equity investors wanting exposure to frontiers and/or Africa. We expect the NGN to remain at 160/$ until June 2014. But we are still nervous for the second half of 2014,” Robertson said. scubed: Both Legends do not look like individuals that are ready to slow down their game anytime soon, as they keep coming out better and sharper, a concern for the coming upcoming artists, you might say? LOL! Yeah! You can say that again. These names are brands that sell across Africa and the world. 2face and Dbanj are having a successful career so far, and they are both popular among fans and in the media, another reason it is cumbersome to easily point out the best between them.
Who is the boss; D'banj or 2FaceWho owns the crowd, the stage and hearts of Africans, and the world in general? Is it the husband of Annie Macaulay, 2Face or the entertainer, D’banj?
Both names are household names in the Nigerian Music Industry and these names will sell millions of tickets anywhere and anytime in Africa, and it does not appear this is about to change anytime soon.
They are arguably one of the greatest things to come out of Nigeria. 2Face is popular for his gifted adorable voice while D’banj is known for his great entertainment skills and dexterity while on stage.
D’banj was born in Zaria, Kaduna State on June 9, 1980 (33) to a military officer who commanded an artillery regiment and a church dignitary mother who hailed from Sagamu, Ogun State. I can hear you saying “How did the koko master become ‘notoriously wild’” Hehehe! I am sure only the entertainer himself can answer you.
D’banj is known for his friendly smiles and acts, and his mastery while on stage cannot be questioned as his performances are always scintillating.
2Face Idibia, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He is one of the most hip pop artists in Nigeria, Africa. 2face is not a new name in the ears of many music lovers as he was part of the defunct Plantashun Boyz. The Plateau born singer was born on September 18, 1975 (38).
Many people that have met or had the opportunity of dealing with 2Face have all admitted that he is humble, easy going and his breathtaking voice and lyrics are reasons everyone do not seem to get tired of him
Who do you prefer? Is it the koko master or 2baba, and please do share your reasons.
