EducationFUTO: Exams Must Hold by Chiscomax(op): 9:46pm On Dec 03, 2013
Sequel to the Vice Chancellor's directive that
FUTO students should resume as directed by FG.
I wish to condemned a section of online media
information on sack of All lecturers in FUTO wish
I describe as utterly irresponsible, deplorable,
highly unprofessional and unethical antics of
certain fringe elements operating in the nebulous
sphere of cyberspace who would do nothing less
than to persist in seizing every opportunity to
unjustifiably malign, impugn, misinform and
mislead the general public by cooking and
spreading malicious lies and fallacy. FG directed
lecturers to sign registers in schools to show
that they have resumed. To the best of my
knowledge FUTO has not sacked any lecturer.
Nonetheless, All Students are expected to return
to school. The school management maintains
exam must hold this year though the exam may
not start on 9th of December, 2013 as scheduled
earlier. A new date will be communicated upon
students return. Aluta Continua...!

EducationRe: ASUU STRIKE! A Curse Or A Blessing? by Chiscomax(m): 5:10pm On Nov 30, 2013
[quote author=D.trader]THIS STRIKE MUST BE DIFFERENT!
Each time ASUU goes on strike, many people go
ahead to blackmail the Union that they are on
strike for improved pay packets. And I ask, what is
wrong with that? I mean what is wrong in ASUU
fighting for better conditions of service in the
University system? If they refuse to fight for
themselves, who will fight for them? Again, each
time ASUU ends strike action, beneficiaries are not
only ASUU but everyone in the system including
all tertiary institutions. Blackmailers or
misinformed concerned commentators should
know that ASUU members would not get more
than their salaries in the case of improved
conditions for education fought for by ASUU. Most
of the time, after ASUU’s struggles, everyone in
the system, including, those opposed to the strike
benefit faster and even more. With due respect,
UNILORIN for example for many years are usually
not part of ASUU strike actions, but they get paid
fallouts from ASUU struggles even before the
Universities that fought for such. This strike is
unfortunate and there would have been no need
for it if our government had respected those they
put in office for specific assignment. The
Agreement reached with the Union in 2009 was
due to review in 2012 and ASUU made it clear to
government. Why did our government refuse to
meet for the review? Even if there is no money as
we are made to believe, the review meeting could
have been so informed and I am very sure a
resolution would be arrived at for example, that
this and that would be done when conditions
improve. This would have been more honorable
than to just ignore the calls for the review
meeting. In one of my earlier postings, I did say
that ASUU’s concerns are about the future of
education in Nigeria. Also, that at least 50% of
those fighting for improved funding of education
under the banner of ASUU now will be out of the
system in another five years, some even in two
years! Are they selfish or self-centered as some
people claim? The little improvements in the
universities today are fallouts from ASUU’s
struggles. If there is improved pay, then our best
brains would not have any reason to go to the
banks to be mere tellers done by brilliant
secondary school graduates in the past! The
university administrators would have enough
money to ensure improved conditions in the
lecture halls, residential hostels for students,
relatively stable electricity and water supply etc.
etc. Although one may wish to say that the
universities are no islands, to be excused from the
shortage of electricity generated and supplied by
‘NEPA’ or PHCN, the fact is that the university
cannot be run on epileptic situations of power
and water supplies. Researches cannot be
conducted in the absence of these two essential
facilities. What then is the mission of a university
without research? How do you generate knowledge
without research? I think Government or ASUU
should publicize the findings of the Committee on
NEEDS Assessment of Nigerian Public Universities
[put up by Government itself] for the generality of
Nigerians to see and then ponder whether ASUU
was making unreasonable demands. One of the
recommendations in that NEEDS Assessment, for
example, is to increase the present academic staff
strength from 28, 000 to 50, 000. Yet our
government is being advised to recruit academic
staff from internally and externally! Is it so that
we can have mediocre universities or mediocre
academics? THIS STRIKE MUST BE DIFFERENT
FROM THE PREVIOUS ONES. ASUU should take this
struggle to a logical conclusion that would
forestall incessant strikes by any Union in the
University. Government should be humble enough
to understand this rather than threatening to sack
the ‘striking’ lecturers that are grossly inadequate!
Who caused the strike?

explorer001: So i caught her with her boss right in an hotel room. This has been going on for quite some time. I refuse to believe my first love would ever cheat on me. I told her its over, she could not utter a word as she kept mute. Now, three days after the whole incident, she put up a show that really got me thinking now.
I was chilling after a normal day at work, so she came around and waited outside with the bike man that brought her, right in my ever busy street and sent someone in to call me. I was just told i had a visitor outside, she never told the person her name so i won't know it was her. I got outside, saw her and guess what happened?
pic please! or it never happened!
EducationA Short Poem By A Nairalander; "Death, The Murderer" by Chiscomax(op): 3:31pm On Nov 30, 2013
Death, you so cruel
You take the good and healthy
and also the people that are so dear
Life is a journey, we understand
You sometimes make it hard to live
By erasing the Livings building sands
You are a murderer that puts the palms of the living below their chins
and sometimes the hands of some on top their heads
You leave them wondering Why
It is cynical to turn some smiles to frowns
Happy days to days filled with Morose
Only few could conquer you
No one could ever get you sued
There is always an end for every start
We will love to watch you prosecuted with Joy in our hearts
Death, over confident you are for you are no respecter of man
Sickness, war and Frustration are your family
Each day we see you kissing with your palms
We would onee day love to watch you saddist die with Euphoria in our hearts

Dear ASUU members, i know you are trying to do this(strike) for our own good and for the better good of good but you are also kind of punishing us. please, do not be offended by the way the Federal government and Pro chancellors are handling your case.
CareerRe: HELP: Is Changing From Mechanical Engineering To Computer Science A Good Idea? by Chiscomax(op): 6:59pm On Nov 29, 2013
jukeblam: I would not advise you do that; IMO, it wouldn't be a good idea.

The progression doesn't work that way. Never heard of anyone who has done such. After a B.Eng in Mechanical Engr, you can proceed to bag yourself an MSc in Mechanical, Petroleum, Ocean, Maritime engineering or a host of other degrees- but not computer science.

As a mechanical engineer, you have a versatile degree- pretty much, you can qualify to work almost anywhere. I have friends working in Manufacturing, IT/Telecoms, Power Generation, O&G and a host of other industry- some even in banks.

You can take a couple of IT related certification courses during your University time, in line with your computer passion (MCSE, CCNA, MCDBA et al) versus spending 4yrs studying Computer Science.

Hold on to your mechanical degree and be prepared to study hard- REAL HARD! When you graduate, I bet you will 'feel' (and have) the advantage over a degree in Computer Science.

My 2 cents.
thank you... i will stick to my engineering. you just transferred some wisdom into me. God bless you
