Since Obio/Akpor has been closed down we have had peace in Port Harcourt, no thugs harassing business owners or seizing goods from poor sellers, no agbero demanding for building permit etc. Now that they have been re-instated with out funding they will go on massive fund drive for chrismax i just pity the business owners in Obio/Akpor.

kulyie: Well,i dont have issues with the way a bride or groom choose to comport themselves on their wedding, its their day, they can do WHATEVER THEY LIKE.however i have problems with the way some nigerians behave in wedding receptions.male or female, bridal ladies n grooms men, invitees etc.you will see some people fighting for jollof rice and chicken as if the reception is a restaurant, fighting for cheap souvenirs like plastic bowls, handkerchiefs, plastic fans etc.some cussing at each other, miscreants painting their bodies and comming to beg in an harassing way, guest especially women bringing polybag to pack food home, women leaving their kids anyhow to behave unruly, etc.

Anyway all that has come to an end years ago because i choose the kinds of weddings i go for.i dont just go to any kind of wedding when i am invited

FamilyWhat Attitudes/occurrences Put You Off The Most In A Wedding Ceremony? by chiteny(op): 7:33am On Nov 24, 2013
I had to make this thread as i was vexed in a wedding ceremony i attended yesterday. I think most of you must have had some unpleasant experience too.

Now the story.

I was invited for a wedding at a certain place and the timing was for 10:00am prompt, as boldly written in the wedding invitation card. So off i went to grace the occasion promptly but i encountered my first scenario that vexed me. For a moment i thought i was the groom (who i assumed should be the most eager to come early on his day). The church was almost empty. No Bride, No groom, No Pastor, some members of the choir and a less than ten invitees. >:(

Ok na. I don come be say i don come. So i chose a chair and sat down, believing the event will start very shortly. But it started 1hr 30min later. Then i started to wonder when we will be done with church and attend the reception. undecided

So no sweat. Event started. Groom walked to his seat in front (i was thinking there would be some marching in song or hymn. And i cant remember any opening prayers being said, just some lovely music played from a CD at the background). Next the young pastor came to the pulpit, requested all to stand for the bride to come in and the choir to sing some songs (why is this always the case, can't we stand up for the groom too?).

Here comes the bride, all well dressed, painted (face, hair and nails) to look her best on her day and........ chewing her cud?? undecided Really?!! And she was chewing it so ferociously, angrily and helplessly as she danced to the alter for the joining. She wasn't the only one chewing the cud...the chief bridesmaid was also infected with the helpless situation. I was put off and was even more vexed when this continued unabated through out the joining process till "you may kiss the bride". angry angry

Next was pictures, pictures, pictures and the reception which was another story all together.

So enough of my gossip. I would like to hear from you guys your own experiences. Wow, i no know say this story long like this.....and i tried to skip some things..........smiley

RomanceRe: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by chiteny(m): 4:06am On Nov 19, 2013
From the comments I read from some groups of people, I just sit behind my computer and ask myself......

The ring or the commitment to love and marriage which is more important?
The bracelet or the faithfulness and loyalty to the relationship which one come first?
The necklace or the willingness/made-up mind to stick with each other through thick and thin, which has a higher priority?

It is good to give the ring, bracelet or necklace where available. But if they are not within reach, they mean nothing compared to the commitment to love and marriage, the faithfulness and loyalty to the relationship, and the willingness/made-up mind to stick with each other through thick and thin.

Girls be wise. Do not refuse him when he has the later without the former. Its like picking up a pig with a priceless metal on its snout, taking the pig home to make a delicacy out of it and throwing away the priceless metal on its snout while you go home. Learn to place proper priority on things in this 21st century.

stagger: In an army, there are privates, corporals, lieutenants, captains, colonels, and generals.

They are all soldiers, but there are those with a higher ranking based on what they have achieved and their abilities as well as the number of years they have been in service. This is the military ranking system.

There are doctors, but we have the trainee ones and the specialists. I am sure you know there is a difference. Try giving a trainee doctor a kid to carry out a heart operation and we will hear the story for years to come.

There are Christians and there are Christians. That is why a demon said to the seven sons of Sceva (who incidentally was a pastor or a priest in that era): "Jesus I know, Paul I know, but who are you?

So in case you say, we are all anointed, let me ask you:

a) Yes, we as Christians are all anointed but can you claim to have cured a terminal illness by prayer?
b) Have you ever prayed for the dead and they were raised up?
c) How fast do you receive answers to your prayers? Instantly, after a while, or do you have to rely on others (including your pastor) to pray for you to get results?
d) Can you preach the word with signs and wonders?
e) Can you see rain clouds forming and rain threatening to destroy your programme, and you can decree that the rain not fall until you are done? (late Archbishop Benson Idahosa once did this in a crusade and the rain that started to fall stopped immediately).
f) Can you decree things to happen and they will happen as you decreed? Can you control the elements with your prayer?
g) Can you decree the death of an evil man and it will come to pass?
h) Can you cause strange deliverance to occur by a word of prayer? A man of God I know once prayed a prayer for someone I know and lightening came from the sky, divided the roof of his family house, into the parlour, and created a massive crater that excavated charms and eartheware pots located almost 10 feet into the ground somewhere in Anambra state. This is a confirmed story, not hearsay.

Another I know (not even a popular one, you may call him an unknown pastor) commanded a mad man to be cured and he was very very cured. I saw this myself live in a branch of Assemblies of God church in a program I was invited to attend.

Yes we are anointed, but even occultists and traditionalists know that there is a ranking in the spiritual realm. Agwoturumbe as a native doctor, was far superior to others in one of the semi-fictional novels written by Elechi Amadi.

Similarly, you cannot compare yourself as a Christian to Chris Oyakhilome, David Oyedepo, Enoch Adeboye, Father Ede, Lazarus Muoka, Chuks Ogbueli and others. You cannot tread where they have been. You will be taken out instantly.

Those are the ones known as "the prophets" to whom no harm should be done.
Brother, do not be deceived. We are all christians and all have the same access to the same God. The difference between these categories of people is excercisig the faith you have. Nothing more. If I take my time to dwell and meditate on the word of God, commiting my self to it and by faith putting his word to work, I can do all these thing you have mentioned and i said this wil all humility. I must not open a church for this.

There are many doing wonders but are not known world wide due to no publicity. This does not mean the publicised ones are the "only prophets" of God.

Brother please do not teach false thing and try to limit people in God's kingdom.

Christianity EtcRe: What Is Wrong With Paying Your Tithe In Church? by chiteny(m): 11:20am On Aug 22, 2013
fisayobolusere: Dears, it is so unfortunate that you glory in ignorance. what is God's covenant with Abraham? Simply put...through your seed, the whole world will be bless.....not the seed from the bond servant but free.....Note:seed not seeds....the seed is Christ Jesus.Gen 22:15-18, Heb 11:18

It should interest you to know that we are Christians today through that seed which is the fulfillment/establishment of the covenant. Even Abraham, Isaac...the prophets waited but they neva experienced it......

Christ is the fulfillment of the Law and the Law has been abolished! Paul when he was Saul had same problem you are having today because he could not come to terms with the truth that because the priesthood has change, there is also a necessity for the change of the Law..Heb7:12

God established his covenant with Abraham because of his obedience&Faith and not cos of Tithe Gen 22:15-19,Heb 11:emph on 1,8-10, 17-18. His tithe was free will offering (and thas what God wants from Christians today, II cor 9:1-15) If you have studied the principle of giving in the scriptures with been bias or reading another so called "man of God's book" You will come to understand that the only principle that has survived the test of time and has always been God's standard is free will giving and were all done out of faith, see below;

Cain and Abel: Gen 4:1-6
Abraham: Gen 22:15-16
David: II Sam 24:24
Barnabars: Act 4:32-37
Ananaias & Safira: Act 5:1-11
Christians giving: Math 5:20, Luke 6:38,I cor 16:1-2, II cor 9:1-15

Go on and search......

The principle that lead to tithe in the Bible has not been looked into and thas why the direction of the discussion is odd and it now seems like an argumentative essay rather we need to educate ourselves...

The main reason for Tithe was that, the tribe of Levites has no inheritance when they got to the promise land! therefore other tribes that have inheritance (as per landed properties) should bring into the Treasury of the Levites for their survival. Levites in turn will then present to God one tenth of what they received as sacrifice to God. Num 18:21-26

21 “To the Levites I have given every tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service that they do, their service in the tent of meeting,.....

26 “Moreover, you shall speak and say to the Levites, ‘When you take from the people of Israel the tithe that I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall present a contribution from it to the Lord, a tithe of the tithe.

That is why tithe was limited to farm(plant and animal) produce. Lots of people were into buying and selling just as we are today in which we have salary earners but God neva asked them for tithe. Lev 27:30-32

Earlier on, you have been taken through the yearly tithe and 3 years Tithe as found in the scripture, the manner and style of which it was laid down and practiced.see Deut 14: 22-28

Come to think of it, assuming we are to obey the Law of Tithe today, how ought you think it should be done? would it have eva taken the process, procedure, manner and whateva dimension it is taking today? By now you know the answer!

In this Christian era, we do not have priests again, the bible says Christians are royal priest... and we have only one high priest, Jesus Christ..I Peter 2:9....Pastors are not priest!

Christians giving is of the principle of free will,...what a man purpose in his heart.....God loves(as always) a cheerful giver......Math 5:20, Luke 6:38,I cor 16:1-2, II cor 9:1-15

Banabas didn't give tithe, he gave all the proceeds from the sales of his property and not to the apostles but to the church..Act 4:32-37

The Macedonian church gave beyond their ability even though they seems poor ......

No wonder Christ said our righteousness should exceed that of the pharisees and Sadducee....Math 5:20

Christians are under liberty and not under the law of necessity even in giving........

Our giving is to the saints and not to the priest.....cos we are priest ourselves

I to God through Jesus Christ our Lord to Continue to grant us knowledge wisdom and understanding. Amen
Very good write up. you understand the Abrahamic covenant better than those that try to use it as excuse to collect or confuse people to pay tithe.
Christianity EtcRe: What Is Wrong With Paying Your Tithe In Church? by chiteny(m): 11:08am On Aug 22, 2013
Gombs: Sir, but Israel (Jacob, incase you've forgotten) was from Isaac, who in turn was from Abraham, same Abraham God said this to

Gal 3v16-17

16 The promises were spoken to Abraham and
to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,”
meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ. 17 What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

Question is if I'm not part of Israel, who was a line Jesus (seed of Abraham) came from, same Jesus I follow, my question is, Do you really follow Jesus? Read that Gal 3v16 and 17 veeeeeeeeery well sir. I'm from Israel, and I pay tithe.

Notice how far the law was from Abraham who paid tithe. And paul said the Law DOES NOT set aside the covenant God had with Abraham. Remember Melchizedek Abraham paid tithe to was likened to Jesus (he had same priesthood as Jesus) because Heb 7v 1-3 says this about Melchizedek

KJV

For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the
most high God, who met Abraham returning from the
slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first
being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
3 Without father, without mother, without descent,
having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but
made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest
continually.

It is the priesthood that
continues, which is a type of Christ’s perpetual
priesthood.

Sir, you need study d scriptures well...I can go on and on

I just established the fact that Jesus came from Abraham through Israel. From your above post "You have no business paying tithes except you are an israelite"

if you believe in Jesus (Gal 3v29 NLT "And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.) , then you are surely from the line of Israel-Abraham's Children (satisfying you words "except you are an israelite" which you now know you are) , and hence it becomes your business paying tithes and Yea, you SHOULD pay tithes.
Nice write up. I really do not have time to disect your write up ut will try to do when i am more relaxed

But this is what i have to say to it for now... We have an inheritance in Christ through the promise made to Abraham by God. This does not automatically mean we have to live under the law as in the OT times (note the whole law is fulfilled in Christ and we are heirs by His grace...the work on calvary).

When a sinner believes and accepts christ, he is born into and inheritance as per the promise. Now 1 Peter 2:9 lets us know we are "a royal priesthood". This simply means we are born (again) into priesthood. We can all act as priests, all having direct access to God.

Now a simple question to you. From your knowledge of the bible, do priests pay tithes and who do they pay their tithes to? (to Levites?)

biafra kwenu: I weep for my fellow nairalanders and guests who has been deceived by businessmen parading themselves as pastors. They are only interested in hammering on that which goes into their pocket caring less for God's own. Our heavenly Father has been very clear on tithe and has thought us the following,

1. This use of the Malachi passage is a good example of Scripture being taken out of its historical and dispensational context. “This whole nation” in verse 9 is the backslidden nation of Israel, NOT the present day church (Malachi 1:1; 3:6). They were under the law of Moses as a system of conditional blessing. Believers today are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14). As such we have already been blessed by God with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3) and are under a system of unconditional blessing with grace on the throne (Romans 5:21).
