bloodyBLOGGER:
One of the major problems wrong with Nigerians is that we forget easily. This is the reason why hardened criminals and looters in the past can easily come back and contest for public office to the extent of winning. It is so sad that some people, mostly youths who are the leaders of tomorrow are going about with the slogan "#BringBackOurCorruption". They say they want the last administration presided by Good luck Ebele Jonathan back in power cos they can't stand the current fuel scarcity amidst other challenges that I believe the Nation will breeze through in due time.

This brainwashed blind bats who love to view things ethnically are quick to forget that the fuel scarcity experienced towards the end of the last administration's tenure was really unbearable compared to what we are currently facing now. Then, major sectors were shutting down, from telecommunications to the media, from aviation to banking. Nigerians were literally cut off from the rest of the world during that period. A period in which getting a bus to the bank to withdraw money was difficult cos buses had no fuel. When you manage to get to the bank, you are told you arrived late cos they close early due to shortage of diesel. Was the power sector any different?

Take a look at the pictures of fuel scarcity events that took place in the last administration below and tell me that Nigerians didn't make a good choice in voting them out.
I remember being stranded in the airport for more than 10 hours last year. I remember being on a fuel queue for over 4 hours. I remember radio stations and banks shutting down. I remember MTN shutting down base stations because they did not have diesel.
Thank you for the gentle reminder

I just read a post on FP concerning masturbation. I now asked myself an honest question; isn't it better to masturbate than to fornicate. Its what everyone have experienced expecially at early stage of puberty. The urge for sex increases and we are far from marriage due to age, lack of fiancee, money etc. My religion advices fasting as an alternative to fornication and masturbation but for how long? Isn't it better to masturbate than to fornicate? Asides the immorality in masturbation, is anything bad in it healthwisely and religiously? Matured opinions needed.
It is healthy. As long as it does not affect your daily life it is fine

It is so easy for people to come to this thread and air their judgment of others without telling us of what transpired between them before then. The don't even give a chance for the accused to defend himself. I may not be surprised to hear a different story from the guy in question. And i may also not be surprised to hear someone else somewhere refer to the said guy as a sent and a saviour. I personally have had dealings with a greater percentage of people on this thread even the ones that don't post but read only. The chris81964 I know here is not a sent. He also has his own skeletons. Mr chris, thank you very much for the help you are rendering on this forum. Please, I still have some questions with regards to the PIP MSD/MST series inverters.

what is the difference between the ones with the heat sink on top and the ones without?

Why do you have to install with an additional charge controller, could it be that the inbuilt CC is not effective??

Also, where can one get it for a reasonable price here in Nigeria(eg. Gaint Power version, mpp solar etc)

Thanks in advance as your response will go a long way to help
I learn something new every day. The heat sinks seem to be market specific. It seems that they have them in Australia as well. I never paid attention prior to today. They have series and the differences are some have PWM or MPPT controllers. Others have bigger AC chargers while some have multiple MPPT controllers.
Controllers and chargers are heat sources. And for an array that is bigger than 2 kw I use external controllers to manage heat better. The heat sink on top of the inverter can help alleviate that concern.

I am not a pricing guy so sorry I can't help you there.
Good luck in your hunt.

I have always supported the idea of renewable energy. I presently use inverter and batteries in my house and they are of great benefit. But given the present economic situation in Nigeria, I have a great dislike for anything imported (although I have no choice but to use a lot of them). But I would really prefer if all NIgerian entreprenuers can develop and pursue a vision to end importations.

so am Just wondering..................what are ur thoughts towards "Buy Nigerian, grow the naira" Is there any part of your plans that involve considering the possibility of utilising more nigerian made inputs in ur business? Do u have any vision to possibly support the manufacture of solar panels, chargers and batteries here in Nigeria?

......................like I said, am just wondering....................
I feel privileged that you have such lofty goals for our company. We continue to refine our business model.
Our first foray into the Nigerian market saw us importing every thing we used. We revised that model to allow for purchases in Nigeria.
We have further revised it to only allow purchases from manufacturers that have representation within Nigeria.
There are a few companies that will start manufacturing in Nigeria. There is a German venture in the North that started production some 15 months ago. Once the provide us with a distribution channel we will purchase from them.
SMA has a manufacturing facility in South Africa. Nigeria is potentially a larger market for solar power. With the right incentive they can be encouraged to manufacture in Nigeria.
Thank you again for your forward thinking question.

I hope you all had a phenomenal week. Permit me to share a wonderful four weeks with you.

Three weeks ago we were recognized as one the top solar installers in Nigeria by Schneider Electric and invited to participate in a round table in Lagos.

On February 29 Smallstarter.com recognized as one of the top 11 solar companies lighting upAfrica.

Last week the US consulate in Lagos invited us and will give us an opportunity to bid on providing solar power to the ambassador's residence. The trade desk got us an introduction to the Ex Im Bank who will finance equipment purchased in the US.

This week I got invited to be a guest speaker at Yale University Law School where I will talk about my experiences doing business in Nigeria as part of their Doing Business in Africa Series. It is a week long series and I am extra privileged to be able to stand on the podium and relay my experience.

I want to Thank Chidinma Byron our able VP and Mrs. Ahunna Cook for making the speaking engagement possible.

Please attend and show them that I have people behind me.

Monday, April 25, 2016 4:30 PM-6:00 PM. (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Where: Yale Law School, 127 Wall Street, New Haven, CT 06511

This month has been a dream. The journey has gotten so much sweeter.

Next week we are doing a survey for an estate with over 200 homes on the Lekki Peninsula to provide them with solar power. They accepted our proposal and we have now moved to the survey and feasibility phase.

Please continue to pray for us. AWPS Renewable Energy has worked tirelessly to distinguish herself in our market.

GOD HAS BLESSED US. OUR HARDWORK AND SACRIFICES ARE BEGINNING TO YIELD FRUIT.

Please, All the Professionals in the house, come to my aid... I just got delivery of a 5kva transformerless inverter from UK but im confused as to the installation and grounding required for the solar panel array and the inverter. (I even read somewhere that the +ve terminal of battery should be grounded). I know that most of my "Oga's" here have dealt with transformerless inverters, Please help me with the knowledge to install this piece. Thanks in advance. @richmon74, kiekie1, earthrealm, chris81964, tnycee

Ive attached a photo to show what the inverter looks like.
The inverter is manufactured by Voltronic Power. Different people sell it under different names. Ground the PV. Ground your combiner. I would not do a positive ground of the batteries. I have instructed my people to do negative grounding. Visit the company s website. They have a manual on their page.
They are pretty OK inverters. I run separate charge controllers. The 5 Kva is more finicky.
Good luck

Wearing a seatbelt is important. A body outside the vehicle indicates that people did not have on their seatbelt. The structure of the vehicle was pretty intact considering the severity of the accident. They should have survived the crash.

I have a few installed indoors. I use water miser caps. You can manage the smell. Excessive: if you equalize it will outgas. How often: depends on the charge and discharge.

When we talk of using distilled water service a flooded battery, many installers get confused on. The concept, what is a distilled water at first? It is the purest form of water which was purified by a laboratory process know as distillation . Pls forget the grammar abeg let's go to what I know too well sir. Some go about searching for where to buy distilled water. Pls stop the search cos if you don't , the man at the battery shop will give you acid that will damage the battery . Pls go and buy a pack of "EVA" water . Eva water seems to be the purest water out there that will do the miracle on your batteries sir. Don't use cway or any other I warn you. Kindly use eva as I stated here. Thank you
This is from the NBC site
Water is vital to the health of all humans. NBC offers Eva, processed water which is subjected to filtering and purification treatments before being bottled. All of the waters produced are in full NAFDAC compliance

Good Day Guys,

I wanted installing an inverter in my apartment but something came to mind when going through some inverter catalogue. Let say, I settle for a 5KVA inverter:

1. How much power will the inverter consume for charging (Does it use the entire 5KVA to charge)?
2. What is the implication of the inverter on my meter tariff: e.g I have a load of 4.5kw and the inverter is rated 5KVA, will the 5KVA load add to my tarrif charge making it (4.5KW + 5KVA)

Good explanation shall be highly appreciated..........
1. What is the size of the charger in the inverter? multiply that by the volts to determine watts. You can multiply the result by the hours it takes to charge. It can produce up to 5 kva of energy from the batteries. Does not mean it uses it to charge.
2. See number one.

Thanks bro. God bless you.

I guess my calculations are on track. At least i'm on right track.
My calculation is now based on 5hrs sunlight daily. Solar panel 300W @ 24 modules. (though my client can start with 6 or 9 modules and increase them in future)

Using a 48V battery bank, my Amp-Hour is 625Ah. If this 625Ah represents a 50% D.O.D then I should be looking to get a total battery capacity of 625Ah x 2 = 1250Ah.
If I go for 12V 200Ah batteries, I will be needing 24 batteries in total (6 sets of 4-series connected batteries connected together in parallel to the inverter)

But to go with ur recommendation, how many Ah will 6V or 2V batteries give (I don't know other variants of batteries from manufacturers). It is true I need to reduce the strings of batteries, 24 12V 200Ah batteries might be too much.

Also I am thinking of a 12V battery bank system. But I guess this will be affected by my solar array. If my panels are 24V panels, then that's a problem for my 12V battery bank.

I don't know if my reasoning/theories are good.

Oga chris and @all gurus, can u pls show a detailed calculation for the same 2500Watt load? Recommend ur panel sizes and numbers, appropriate inverter size, MPPT size, number of batteries with their capacity.

Thaank you.
The Trojan and US Batteries L16 are 410 AH and 6 V. There are 2V higher AH batteries out there.
The panels. Even though they are sold as 12 or 24 volts, they produce more. You can connect your panels in series to get the desired voltage.
I will give you a link to help you. If I do the calculation for you, you did not learn anything. http://www.batterysizingcalculator.com/
Good luck. You are getting the concept. Keep asking questions. You will get ahead that way. Also watch Youtube videos on off grid living.
