NBBF is really trying but how are they able to pull off all the logistics and administrative stuff seamlessly? cus private sector or no private sector traveling for camping, hiring a quality coach and arranging exhibition games is no joke. jihday: The NBBF is really engaging the private sector, they aren't relying on government money. The NFF will have to do same to hire a quality coach for the eagles and stop the attitude of owing players |

Have to say I'm impressed with the performance and professionalism of the Nigerian basketball federation. Just doing their work efficiently no hassles no distractions. Got competent coaches for the national teams. Arranged adequate camps and quality exhibition games. Got players to switch nationality without any noise making or media speculation. All this without having i doubt one-tenth of money federations like NFF handle. One of the best run Nigerian sporting federations by a mile . |

I really wish you would take the time re-watch the Spain match on youtube. Their were glaring lapses the Spaniards failed to consistently exploit. Mobi Oparaku wasn't positionally disciplined. I'm surprised they didn't target his area of the pitch more especially after Raul's goal. Actually we beat Bulgaria 1-0 but that was a shadow of the 1994 side that got to the semis. Stoichkov was basically retired the rest aging as well. Sorry but that mistake by Zubby is almost unforgivable. Garba Lawal had no right to score what was just a inshallah semi shot/cross at goal. Passion can only take you so far. Without the right structure it will peter out into nothing. Look at the way a less talented Denmark side handled us in comparison to how Spain played us and you will understand what i'm trying to say. TheGoodJoe: After the spanking by Netherland, a lot of our players hired special coaches and worked extra time to get their sharpness.
The discipline was there and also the Spaniards played well.
They were a sound side. Remember they demolished the Bulgarisns 6-0.
At the end, we matched them.
I don't think Zubizaretta should he fully blamed for Garba Lawal's goal. It was an unexpected direction and he still did his best to save it.
I still believe our determination and concentration was our biggest strength. Even in Atlanta but we lost it after beating Bulgaria.
If we continued with that passion, we would have gone a long way. |

Yes the bold is right but I've rewatched our games from that World Cup if Spain had been more tactical beating the SE wouldn't have been too difficult as they made it seem. Plus how do you legislate for the silly error from the Spanish goalkeeper Zubizzeriata? That 1998 SE team is one of the most indisciplined (off and on field) squads Nigeria has ever put out forget the result we got against Spain. TheGoodJoe: All teams rely on individual brilliance coupled with tactics. That should not be a downside.
We gave the Spanish a good game, although they were unfortunate. Raul had a good chance to kill the game but we matched them and Ikpeba also had chances to kill them too.
I think determination and concentration saw us through. We lost it as the tournament progressed. |

It was kind of flukish because we relied on individual brilliance of players like Finidi, Oliseh and Okocha on the day. The Spanish were unable to capitalise on our obvious lack of structure which the Danes punished ruthlessly. TheGoodJoe:
I don't think Winning Spain was a fluke. I think the demolition by Netherlands spurred our players to prove themselves.
They worked hard and concentrated because of the fear of Spain. They did not want another humiliation.
After beating Spain and Bulgaria, the concentration filtered away and we were punished severely by Paraguay and Denmark. |

Andrew but you forgot to clarify that some of them only qualified for the second round because they finished as third best losers. That however doesn't invalidate your point about Rohr being an average/poor tactician. One thing you can't take away from European teams is that they are well coached. That's why teams like Scotland, Hungary, Wales can beat good teams on a good day. Most importantly they play without fear or complex unlike most African teams. This one of the reasons Gernot's constant whining about the low level of our team is getting annoying. Defeating your own team with negative thoughts ahead of the game before it has even started. No one has said we should not be realistic about our expectations but if you plan accordingly many top teams can be beaten. andrewbaba44: Rohr is worst than ekuke ,I hardly criticize a coach or a player
Naija get players ooo ,you self check am nah
This is no hyping but fact
Sweden ,Austria ,Denmark ,Wales Ukraine ,Czech republic
None of them get players pass us
I am open for a serious arguement ,and mind you these teams I mentioned qualified for the round of 16 |

Usually the organizers of the tournament would have invited teams from other confederations to help make up the numbers but I guess because of covid they have to make the best of the situation. From the format i would hazard a guess that 4 teams will qualify from both groups into the quarterfinals. do4luv14: Please pop, what kind of copa America is going on
