Just saw the video of Erickson's collapse. Please Lord let him be ok Prayers to his family too |
men hope he's ok. andrewbaba44: |
Emenike too won the highest goal scorer at the AFCON maybe we should also call him out of retirement ![]() komekn: |
That should be our concern. If Keshi and Herve Renard (Zambia) could win AFCON with inferior squads then Rohr has no excuse not to perform. Toylove: |
These aforementioned gentlemen are still playing at the highest level of football unlike Ighalo and Victor Moses at the moment. Nigerians only dismiss old or experienced players when they start underperforming. Ahmed Musa is very experienced and has even performed better than Ighalo in most tournaments for us but today we are complaining why he is in the team because his current output is nothing to write home about. Do you think if guys like Okocha, Oliseh and Finidi were playing today like they did in the 90s and 2000s we wouldn't want them in the team despite their age? We should always argue for top performers not just experience in our team. If we have someone that has both fantastic. 12large1: |
Thank you Djoko for stopping that muscle bound spainard from surpassing my GOAT's record ![]() fergie0o1: |
Toni Payne is quite the baller. Decent performance despite the loss hopefully they do better in the next game. BascoVanVeli: |

unlike you I believe in fact not myth. How many top EPL teams have had forwards who thrived over the past decade? In Arsenal Van Persie and Aubameyang. Tottenham just Harry Kane and maybe Adebayor. When Mikel was bought as a young player was his career destroyed? Joe Cole nko? Is Chelsea destroying the careers of mount, reece james, Odoi? Terem is a prospect who could get better. It could be with Chelsea or with another club but you should learn to appreciate that football is not a mathematical equation where 1+1 = 2 The trajectory of a footballer varies from person to person. For some you work your way up slowly for others it takes years but learn to never dismiss a player just because of his current level. Moffi still has a lot of improving to do no doubt so going to Chelsea is not a realistic choice (don't think the story is true anyway) but for someone that was playing in Lithuania barely a year and a half ago his progress is impressive and needs encouragement. komekn: |
I'm not saying Moffi should go to Chelsea now I'm just highlighting Komekn's penchant for being always negative about any transfer news regarding some of our players. For instance look how you have logically argued why Terem moving to Chelsea is a no no. You have clearly shown the difficulties he could encounter but you haven't placed an embargo on him that he will not stand a chance. Komekn knows what he's doing when he makes such arguments so that tomorrow if the opposite happens he will try and hide under his usual "here and now" mantra. If I didn't know better maybe somebody puts him up to it to keep this thread going ![]() jihday: |
Senegal had a better squad than ours. Guys like Diouf, Camara, Fadiga, Cisse and the late Bopa Diop were hitting fine form. Nigeria was already in decline guys like Oliseh, Finidi and Tijani Babangida who made up the core of the squad weren't in the greatest form that year. Other than the injustice of them being dropped from the World Cup squad there is no guarantee we would have done any better with them in Japan/Korea Philosopher1979: |
See Komekn this is where I always have issues with you. Your first instinct when you hear stories like this is to almost always take the most pessimistic or negative standpoint. You usually try to disguise it under the banner of being "objective" not knowing you are as transparent as glass. How do you know for certain he will be a bench warmer? Are you an oracle or is soothsaying your side hustle? You can judge a player's present circumstance without making a definitive judgment about how they will fair in the future you absolutely have no control over. One would have thought the Iheanacho, Osimhen and Josh Ononam experiences would have made you more humble in your judgments but mba! komekn: |

Guy I salute you for even bothering with him and his self-contradictory arguments BascoVanVeli: |
To be fair I think the poster was asking to be educated not that he had a definitive position. From his later responses you can see he understands the issue better. Wish most nairaland threads could be like this all the time. Cross examine and interrogate ideas not everytime degenerate to insults and name calling. OneTemplate: |
Importation in itself is not a bad thing cos we live n a global village where countries buy and sell. For Nigeria we stupidly import what we can ordinarily produce which should ordinarily employ our people and earn us FX. Like you rightly noted Nigeria ought to have had working refineries now that can meet our domestic need but from the time of Babangida till now no government has been able to take the bull by the horn so we keep siddon looking. What even makes our situation more annoying and pathetic is that we had the money to do it but some how we just kept twiddling our thumbs until we got to this state. Even if the refineries were working at full capacity today they still produce far below the country's domestic need. Dangote has pumped so much into the project so it's in his interest to get it finished soon. Plus you need to appreciate the scale of the project. Dangote is building one of the biggest refineries in the whole world. Something that ordinarily governments should be embarking on one man is handling so deserves and needs every support and encouragement. Apart from the NNPC refineries that are currently comatose there are a few modular refineries here and there but I think it's mostly diesel they produce besides that the capacity is quite small for a country like Nigeria. gonkin: |
So the friendlies have come and gone. Apart from a bit of team bounding I'm not sure we gained much from this international break. We should have given more of our alternate attackers more game but rohr doing rohr things ![]() Nice to see Awaziem play as a CB for 2 full games. Ndidi did very well. Midfield is still an issue and we are not sure when reinforcements (if any) will be coming in. Attack still looks toothless without Osimhen. At this moment God help us if Osimhen or Ndidi are missing from our first XI. Lots can still change between now and September but I would be lying if I said about I wasn't concerned about Rohr's coaching these days. All the same keep flying high Super Eagles. |
Yes, in theory it should because the money we make from the little crude oil we sell we blow on importing petrol, diesel, kerosene and subsidizing these products. Plus we import so many things which ordinarily we should be producing here to save forex. Oil imports I think account for about 70% of what we use our FX for. So in that regard the Dangote refinery would really be a big game changer not just in terms of FX saved but also in terms of providing an avenue to also earn FX because Nigeria will now be able to sell refined products overseas. To improve the value of the naira like seunmsg rightly said we need to be productive. Sort out Ajaokuta so we can reduce having to import steel. Boost our farming productivity so we don't have to be importing maize, palmoil, tomato puree. So many things can be sorted out but it's the political will that will get most of these things resolved. gonkin: |

He's very talented. He scored 30 plus goals last season in Austria. Boy might be one of the next big things in African football. andrewbaba44: |

Terrible news. Young man makes it out of our dysfunctional society then goes and dies prematurely in such a bad way. May God comfort the young man's family. BascoVanVeli: |

I beg to disagree with you that shutting down twitter in Nigeria won't have big implications on the economy. I know for a fact that alot of businesses like banks, fintechs and other kinds of service providers use the platform to serve there customers as well as potentially generate income through twitter posts. I don't think the FG thought this thing through because if they did then they would have considered the greater implications that shutting down twitter would have on our already battered economy that is on life support. On the action of FG from a protection of our sovereignty point of view yes government is within its rights to take that action but is it the best course of action they could have taken? Did they write to twitter to explain the context of PMB's deleted tweet? Whichever way you look at it this suspension will be rightly construed as an attempt to suppress freedom of speech. Now I'm not a fan of Buhari or his government save for one or two people like the VP and Tolu Ogunlesi but I also found nothing genocidal about the deleted tweet. Yes the language was unpresidential which the handlers could have done a better job of clearing up. I also see some actions of twitter as being hypocritical banning the PMB's tweet yet allowing Nnamdi Kanu to spew all kinds of hate using their medium. Why it took them getting banned by the FG before they acted on Kanu's tweets only they can answer. FG should learn not to treat every problem as a nail that requires the use of a hammer to treat all the time. FG has to reverse itself at some point because going against a major American concern like twitter is something that will draw the attention of the Biden administration which we don't need now. What is even puzzling me the more is the few things this government is doing well it's the same twitter that they use to inform us about so how will the citizens know what you are doing? Plus is it not the height of hypocrisy that twitter that helped you kick out GEJ is no longer bae when your opponents use that same channel against you? The FG needs to learn how to find more subtle ways of addressing issues instead of this ban ban attitude of theirs. PMB really fell into kanu's trap by giving him relevance. Same as OBJ with Asari Dokubo, UMYA and GEJ with Boko haram. Better handling of these issues would have nipped them in the bud before they became the monsters we (they) made apologies to Burna Boy. No doubt this is a spectacular own goal for the APC administration but I'm not sure the opposition will be able to capitalize on it. plaindealer: |
Subzero047:your opinion |
Subzero047:Ekong was covering for Awaziem who was caught out of position while Okoye was a bit slow to react to Anguissa's shot. Even the midfielders could have reacted faster to Ekong's clearance. Ekong gets full marks from me for trying to avert danger. I can bet if it was someone like kepa that conceded that goal he would have been torn to shreds |
Guy Ekong came out to clear eminent danger blaming him solely for the F up of other people is a touch too far. Subzero047: |
one thing I have noticed about us Nigerians is once we have an agenda against someone come hell or high water we will not change our position about the person despite the evidence staring you in the face. I won't be hypocritical I sometimes find myself falling into that frame of mind BascoVanVeli: |
Nice one Basco good review. The least we deserved from this game was a draw but hey that's football sometimes. Yes you are right Okoye should be saving that shot. Maybe Rohr should be having a rethink about making him our undisputed number one. Onuachu got into good positions yesterday. Pity he left his scoring boots at the hotel. Criminally wasting of chances which will not be forgiven if repeated during the WC Qualifiers and AFCON. Overall decent game would have been more worried if we didn't create enough chances. Shoutout to Ndidi lovely performance from him. Was the main one I always saw trying to dictate proceedings from the midfield unlike ''activity former'' Lessons to be learnt but good workout. Will wait for Tuesday before forming an overall opinion of the team as it stands. BascoVanVeli: |
I sighted you too ![]() TheSuperNerd: |
Has he ever been tried in that position with the national team? That's the point I'm making. Friendlies are for try stuff out. Ancelotti once played Iwobi as a wingback many of us would have said he wouldn't do well in that role but he was decent. edi287: |
