The only reason I can support a break-up in any relationship is infidelity - and that's only if either party is willing to let go. From my observation, you love this guy, he loves you half, he's playing pranks, you are trying to hold on, he comes back to you. Something tells me he'll always come back to you. Its up to you be the waiter or the driver.
