Una sef. Overreacting negatively go kill una on this thread tbh. Everyone's just looking for an angle to either say the manager deserves the sack or push another agenda. Doesn't matter if it's the first pre-season game or not. Agenda must be pushed.

We should not be going for him at all. The guy lost his shirt to Eric Dier who was a calamity and surplus to requirements at Spurs. Even Upamecanonsense and that Korean fridge Min-Jae are ahead of him.

We need a 1st choice CB to partner Martinez. Why are we buying Bayern's 4th choice? At this point there should be an embargo against buying any player who has ever worked with ETH.
How's he the 4th choice defender when the KJM a supposed 1st choice played only 3 more games than him. Let's not forget De ligt missed a substantial part of the season due to injury. Means he was played whenever he was fit.

United talked to all the top coaches in the world but couldn't get one but returned to the person they had doubts about.

I give you guys forty years to provide a link from your tier one journalist where United rejected any top coach.

Provide that or keep shut.

That's a link to the Athletic podcast. Watch that. Everyone there na tier one journalist.

Orstein here said the candidates they were speaking to were all very enthusiastic about even working with a limited budget at United.

Or Orstein no be tier one reporter again?

They also previously listed all the managers we talked to which I've listed in a previous post.

FACT IS. They were almost certain about keeping Ten Hag after that final but did their due diligence by interviewing other candidates. Which is what we've been shouting for all these years. People that'll calmly make decisions after exploring every option.

The level of ignorance on this thread is baffling. It's like one's stuck arguing in 2008 or something.

It's 2024. And you don't know the difference between Tier one, two, three and junk journalist. So many articles being thrown around from random mediocre journalists.

The Athletic are tier one when it comes to football reports. According to them we talked to-

McKenna
De Zerbi
Thomas Frank
Marcos Silva
Pochetinho
Tuchel.

When you then go deep into conversations on their podcasts and stuff, you realize we didn't like any of them for the job. Like how does anyone believe Roberto fvcking DeZerbi rejected Man Utd. Things you only see on this fvcking forum.

Tell him his job is on the line of he doesn't deliver in the first 2 months of the season..

That's all.
It's up to him..
Sack now is not reasonable..

Euro is in a few weeks time..
When would the new coach have time with the players..

Give him the remaining 12 months.

Tell the next coach to analyse the team Nd see what he can improve.
If you're going to do that, kuku sack the manager.

It's widely reported there'll me a major overhaul of the squad. So many of the players will leave. We'll get like 5 additions also. In all of these, you want to see instant results in 2 months or he'll get sacked? You don't want to see a style of play anymore?

And this season when we look at the numbers of injury players we had, I think thats another excuse for is bad performance. Imagine all man city defeners having injury, guardiola won't have collect league self.
It's difficult for some people to change their mind once they've zeroed in on an agenda.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by ChristoBam: 7:12pm On May 26, 2024
We can clearly see what would have happened if he had stuck to his style of play first few weeks at the job. Early this season, everyone here was saying he should have stuck to it last season. Even though we got trashed by Brentford, Brighton and co.

No one here has that type of patience. We're never switching to any special style of play. If we do, it'll have to be a slow, gradual thing. Nothing like what Klopp, Arteta or any of those did. This fanbase no dey hear anything. Media no dey hear anything. Ten Hag don learn. Pretty sure his whole philosophy has started changing.

Our matches were pure comedy with the donut midfield anyway. I understand starting out with the low defensive line because Varane and Martinez were out but persisting with it despite our obvious struggles was folly IMO.

The proper thing to do was to try to play a higher line (does not have to be ultra-high like Spurs or Villa) and play the way the team is meant to play in the long term. Playing a high line defense or low line defense impacts how the whole team plays and not just the defenders, so you can't use Martinez experience playing it to justify not exposing the whole team to it.

Then we have to factor in the fact that even in the games Varane played we still played the donut midfield.
Any type of high line with Maguire or Evans is suicidal. It's something they'd have even tried out in training. You must remember Ten Hag is not a PE teacher brought in to coach the team. He must have seen the ones available can't play that high line in any way.

So it was either he did what he did or we switched to last season's tactics.

But funny thing is, early this season before he started the whole thing, everyone here was saying what they wanted to see was evidence of a style of play. I remember clearly most people here said they don't care about results that much.

You are 100% right about the part in bold. However, i still blame ETH for this. A few months into the season after noticing how porous how midfield was and how it was causing us to face countless shots, he should have made adjustments and asked the defenders to play a higher line and tucked at least 1 FB infield.

Player a slightly higher line and compressing the pitch would have been better than playing the porous midfield we were playing, especially since we have a GK who is an adept sweeper. He should have stuck to his principles no matter the personnel because that is the only way the team would assimilate his principles.

Doing what he did this season (high press and low block defense at the same time) means next season when he tries to implement high press and high line the team would not be used to it and would have to take time trying to implement it. This means that this season was a wasted season in terms of him trying to implement his principles.
Lol no way in hell we'd have tried an high line with Maguire, Evans and co. Our matches would be pure comedy.

As for for second point, Martinez is already used to playing an high line. We were always going to get a CB that can also play it comfortable. So the transition would have been easy.

How does Varane and Lindelöf being fit stop our midfield from being porus? When this same City trashed us last season, was Varane and Martinez not there?

The heavens will not fall if you admit that EBL got the team's set up wrong for the most part of the season.
I said it again. The way it worked at Ajax that made the midfield not super porous was the defense played a super high line and more importantly the fullbacks tucked in regularly. Don't know the exact way it works cuz I'm not a football geek but the Athletic explained it really well.

Again they were not careless in possession, which means you don't regularly get countered on. Shaw and Martinez out at the same time is really one of the worst that can heppen in that regards.

Btw, did you see Pep's comments about Martinez?

The players that started in midfield today we almost always available throughout the season but EBL chose to set us up in a way that left a gapping hope through the middle. You are trying to pin his failures on injuries but it is not entirely correct. If Martinez and Varane were fit under that stupid set-up, we'd still have strugggled...

Celebrate the win but don't attempt to justify the nonsense EBL did all season.
You can't say that. We'd be playing with an higher defense line. Our fullbacks would be tucking in so many times. We'd be better in possession. We didn't get these things because of injuries.

He wasn't going to wait till everyone's back before he started implementing his style.

One thing I'll agree with is he shouldn't have stuck to it for that long.

You said every team, when we all know it’s one team that has won the league in the last seven seasons. Pep won 6 out of 7. He is like or even better than Fergie. That’s the benefit of having a good manager who will win trophies regardless of what the administrators are doing, as long as there is money to buy players. The philosophy and style of the manager and Money trump whatever structure you are looking for. Tell me how many managers were hired and fired by City before they got Pep. If we continue to persist with mediocrity in the name of stability, we won’t win any major trophies for another decade.

The earlier the better if we snap up any upcoming manager that is available, and check if they fit in, if they don’t, we sack them after 2 years except we are seeing massive progress with a 90% probability of winning a trophy the third year. That’s the name of the game.
I said every team that has challenged not won. So that includes Arsenal and Liverpool. All these stuck to one manager.

What’s structure? Na structure dey determine formation and style of play? Almost everything is on the manager. Luck is when you get a good manager that will play good football and win trophies as well. The only way to be lucky is to keep hiring and firing. No matter what the admin part of a football club looks like, money and a good manager will do the magic.

We just have not been lucky to get a manager that works for United. Until we do, we will keep on shouting structure structure structure. All we need to do is continue our search. If Pep decides to join Utd today, and we make 1 billion available to him, we’ll win the EPL in two years. Would/could an incompetent manager do that?
If hiring and firing is the way we want to go, then we should forget about the league anytime soon.

No one's coming in to win this league in a short time. No one's coming in and hitting that 90 points mark without drilling the team over a few years. Every team that's competed for this league in the past 6 years stuck to one manager.

It's funny but that's what City has turned this league to. You need like 90 plus points to even stand a chance of winning.

Can you tell me how many clean chances Hojlund has gotten from Bruno this season? The one he scored yesterday was not even a chance. Rasmus managed to score that from nowhere.

Bruno is supposed to even be better when opponents don't sit back so he can throw his quick long passes for an attacker to run into. Their sitting back creates a big problem for him and Arsenal would have found a solution for him easily. He was there in the first leg
It's not rocket science that we'd have offered more threat against Arsenal if Bruno was on the pitch. No one's saying we'd have won the game. But it definitely would have increased our chances. So don't understand what you're getting at.

First leg you're talking about we offered real threat and probably could have won if that offside call went out way.

The Tuchel guy is nothing spectacular that we haven't had.

I wonder why Chelsea fans hype him. Because he won the UCL that Di Mateo also won.

What was his outcome in the league
He's actually a very good manager. For clubs like PSG, Real Madrid, I'd have thought Bayern as well.

Give him a squad of very good players and he'll win you a cup competition and do well in the league.

He's the type of tactical manager that set up teams perfectly for a particular game. Reason he's good in cup competitions. Give him this United team against City in that FA cup final and he'll give Pep a really tough time.

But he's never the guy that'll get 90 plus points in the league.

From the very first game of the season ffs till now, we always have 100yards of space in our midfield 😠😠..

Christobam, come and explain how a DOF helps us solve this anomaly...
It's because he's partly sticking to his ideal structure while not having the personnel for it. Meaning if he had Martinez, Shaw and co around, the defense line would be much much higher. So that void won't be there.

It's stupid at this point cuz the results of this against Crystal palace was always obvious. Except he's trying to show the decision makers what he'd be doing if he had the players available.

Just like a tiki-taka manager sticking to his style of play while getting dispossessed every minute and suffering for it. Just to show the technical people what the style of play is.
